PMOs in IT companies provide:
• projects governance, ensuring all projects align with the strategy
• monitor project performances
• provide necessary training, and manage resources across projects
IBM's PMO played a important role in the development of
IBM'sWatson (AI system) :
• coordinated the collaboration between various teams,
• ensured the necessary resources, training, and support
were available.
Watson couldn't have been developed without the
strategic planning & coordinated execution overseen by
the PMO.
• + more proactive role in decision-making – PMO may guide strategy,
handle change management, and oversee innovation initiatives

Supportive PMO
• The most flexible type
• Primary function – to act as a resource hub, providing tools, templates,
and training to project managers
• Provides a repository of project management documentation, templates,
and the best practices
• Offers support as and when needed but with a high degree of autonomy
• Works well in organizations with a strong collaborative culture - where
centralized control is not desirable
EXAMPLE – a tech start-up could utilize a supportive PMO
structure, providing its highly skilled and autonomous
teams with the resources they need to manage their
projects effectively without imposing stringent controls

Controlling PMO
• In the middle of the spectrum of control
• Provides support and requires compliance with specific project
management practices and methodologies
• Offers a balance between autonomy and strict governance
• The most effective in organizations where standardization of processes
is required, but some flexibility is also allowed
EXAMPLE – a software development firm could benefit
from a controlling PMO – ensuring consistency across
projects while allowing flexibility for project managers to
adapt to the unique requirements of their respective
projects.

Directive PMO
• The highest level of control
• Actively involved in all project phases, providing needed resources,
methodologies, standards, etc.
• Main function is to direct and manage projects from initiation to
closure
• Ideal for organizations that require a high level of standardization and
control, such as heavily regulated industries
EXAMPLE – a pharmaceutical company with multiple drug
development projects could implement a Directive PMO,
ensuring strict adherence to industry standards and
regulations while effectively managing resources in time

1. Google: Supportive PMO
Google's PMO acts as a resource hub, providing project managers

autonomy is given to the project teams to determine the best

NASA’s PMO provides guidelines and standards for project
management and ensures they are adhered to, but it also allows
flexibility where necessary. Given the complexity and risk
associated with space exploration, this approach enables NASA

З заняття #1 у Вашій презентації мають міститися

2. Визначити роль і тип PMO, який потрібно створити у своїй
компанії
3. Визначити очікування позитивного впливу PMO в розвитку
