Student Success Day Research Paper
Student Success Day was just that for me: a success. I was able to help at the expo and learn about
various intriguing clubs. I had not know there were so many extra curricular opportunities at RCTC.
Moreover, the sessions I attended were helpful and informative and I appreciate the hardwork that
went into making student success day a success. Prior to the first talk I attended, which was on
professionalism, I had not thought about professional etiquette seriously, but with interviews and jobs
looming ahead this talk was immeasurably valuable. The most important thing I took away was this:
be respectable both online and off. For example, the speaker emphasized keeping negative comments
about anything related to the workplace off social media.

The Dark Knight Adaptations
Introduction: In 2005 Christopher Nolan spearheaded the commercial re boot of the Batman franchise
with the movie Batman Begins, the movie achieved wide critical acclaim, and, subsequently
generated, talk of a sequel. In the summer of 2008, after a vast amount of advertising and viral
marketing, the highly anticipated sequel was finally released. The film The Dark Knight grossed
almost $67,165,092 in its first day and went on to break countless box office records. Later the next
year the film won 2 Oscars and was nominated for a further 6, one award won was the Best
Supporting Actor award which the late Heath Ledger posthumously received, for his portrayal of the
Joker . Due to Ledger s untimely death the film gained even more ... Show more content on

The number of movies adapted from comic books has, in recent years, become more and more
popular, and more comic book films are being released now than in the past. In this essay I will
explore the reasons why this pattern has emerged and potential reasons for the prevalence of comic
book adaptations in post 9/11 cinema .
The Dark Knight: Throughout The Dark Knight the terrorist attacks of 9/11 are continuously mirrored;
terrorism as an overall theme is also reflected throughout the movie, Phillip French of the Guardian
newspaper states that The Dark Knight shows us a post 9/11 Manichaean view of the world . Even
within the initial marketing of the film and in the various viral campaigns employed, we see
reflections of the 9/11 attacks on New York. In one of the main advertising posters for the movie we
see the protagonist Batman standing in the fore ground of the picture, in front of a huge sky scraping
building, not unfamiliar to one of the Twin Towers, the top of the building is ablaze, with; brick, ash
and various pieces of shrapnel falling to the ground. With this powerful image we, before we have
even seen the movie, receive flashbacks of the tragic events of 9/11. The poster as well as promoting
Batman, makes us subconsciously, maybe naively, want to see the movie as it is related to the horrible
attacks on New York. Again in relation to the 9/11 attacks, people may want to watch the film to see
how terrorism is portrayed in the movie,

Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire Research Paper
The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Could the fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory have been prevented?
If the working conditions weren t so flammable, maybe this fire could have never happened. There
were about tons of scraps, and they used paper as thin as air. If the workers and managers were more
aware of these things, there could have never been a fire. The Triangle Shirtwaist could have not lost
145 workers that day if they had been more considerate. To begin with, the working conditions were
very poor. Their employees worked in cramped lines at their sewing machines. The girls worked
twelve hours a day, everyday. At the eighth floor, there were bins and bins of scraps, since the last time
they were picked up and sold to cotton mills was January, and the fire happened midway into March.
There were four elevators, but only one was working, so the workers had to file a long like to use it.
They had two stairways that led to the streets, but one of them was locked from the outside to prevent
robbery. Finally, the fire escape was so narrow that it would take hours to have all the workers use it,
even if luck was on their side. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Back then, minimum wage was $32.26, and the workers were paid a mere $15, making them work 12
hours everyday. When people began to protested about this, the factory were on of the few to give
rights to their employees. They hired police officers to act like thugs and arrest the people who
protested against them, and paid politicians to avert their eyes. The factory was owned by two men
named Max Blanck and Isaac

Total Quality Management
Producing a quality product, whether a tangible item or a service, is the goal of all organizations, how
this goal is achieved will be the challenge. Quality of the end product has been an obstacle in America
for decades. In the post World War II era as production of products in America rose, the quality of
those products diminished. At the same time other countries such as Japan were not experiencing the
same quality issues.
The secrete to successful quality control was in the method of product management the Japanese were
using. The Japanese organizations used an approach ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The focus upon producing a quality product begins at the top level of management and extends
through out the organization to the delivery person. In Quality Focused Management each employee
and all processes are focused upon producing a quality product.
How TQM Applies to Loma Linda University Medical Center
I am a respiratory therapist at Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC). The hospital is very
proud of the respected reputation which has been earned by the high quality of care provided. In one
aspect, the quality management is similar to traditional management styles, with regards to each
employee is responsible for delivering high quality care. A deeper look will reveal a TQM approach
by the administrators and management at all levels.
The most obvious TQM is the establishment of guidelines for the alignment of the organization to
achieve the standards set forth by the Joint Commission of Accredited Healthcare Organizations
(JCAHO). The JCAHO was developed to provide guidelines for healthcare organizations to provide
safe, quality patient care. All healthcare institutions must meet these guidelines in order to have the
opportunity to provide care for patients. These guidelines extend from how oxygen tanks are stored to
how often employees receive in services, continuing educations, and tested for basic skills.

Olaudah Equiano s the Interesting Narrative of the Life of...
Olaudah Equiano s The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, or Gustavus Vassa, the
African, Written by Himself, is the story of the eponymous real life character, Olaudah Equiano, his
life, trials, tribulations and journey from slavery at an early age to freedom. For Equiano, it seems that
slavery is almost a metaphysical phenomenon. His entire life is essentially characterized by the
different experiences relating slavery, from Africa to the Middle Passage to plantation life in the West
Indies and United States. Equiano s views on slavery are tough to articulate and truly complex.
Throughout the novel he makes reference to different degrees of slavery, at times condemning the
practice, and at other times contradicting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He details being shocked and hurt to the point where he tries to wash the color of his skin off his face.
While travelling the seas with Pascal, Equiano has many more encounters in and with Britain. With
more and more exposure to Christianity and European culture, he details that he was no longer
frightened and apprehensive towards it, beginning to show confluence of African and European
cultures. He was eventually sent to school in Britain, educated and shortly after, baptized. It is worth
noting that later in the novel he often relates his new religious standpoint to his enslavement. While
becoming a Christian himself, whether or not he holds responsible God, himself, or the hypocritical
Christian Europeans for his enslavement is left ambiguous.
Ultimately, (and after brief stints of being purchased by other masters) Equiano is sold to Robert King.
Educated and under the direction of a master treating him relatively fair, Equiano here observes
another facet of slavery. He is further educated and directed along the path of Christianity, which I
believe further adds more conflicting emotion, due to it being comparable to his original notion of
slavery from his childhood. While working for King on shipping routes, he determines himself to save
some money on the side, in order to buy his freedom from King. Interesting to note though, in the
novel he explicitly states that he would like to return to Old England, not Africa. While I think this is

A Research On The Family And A Good Support System
1. Research on the Problem
Given the topic of stepfamilies, we found a lot of information supporting stepfamilies, but really no
solution. There is not a specific solution but there are ways that families can strengthen their newly
formed stepfamily. From this course, we developed a getaway camp for stepfamilies and blended
families. Previous research says that good communication between the family and a good support
system are keys to success in a step family, this was a proven successful way. Our camp will provide
these things in the friends the family and the kids make at the camp. Our paper will touch on the
missions, goals, objectives, action plan, resource plan, allies and opponents.
We learned the family systems and how interdependence plays a role within a family. A family needs
to develop interdependence enable to rely on each other, just as a stepfamily needs to do the same. We
also learned that the definition of a family can include more than one family at a time.
Many families around the world are involved in stepfamilies. It is likely that you are part of a
stepfamily or know someone who is apart of a stepfamily, ...at one point or another more than half of
children will spend time in a mixed or blended step family ( Harcourt,K.T., Adler Baeder,F.,Erath,S.,
Pettit,G.S. 2015). We also found statistics that state, 1300 new stepfamilies are forming every day.
And Over 50% of US families are remarried or re coupled. The research that we found said that the

Service users who have communication problems need support to enable them to express themselves
effectively. It is therefore important for the carer to be aware of the individuals preferred method of

Benefits Of Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals
DACA Repeal: President Barack Obama once said, My fellow Americans, we are and always will be a
nation of immigrants. We were strangers once, too ( Immigrant Quotes ). The United States is a nation
of immigrants. However, immigrants, especially those who are undocumented, face intense prejudice
and discrimination. In recent times, the legal rights of young undocumented immigrants have been
compromised due to the repeal of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. Furthermore, the state of
the country is likely to suffer at the hands of the repeal which will have rippling negative results. The
reluctance of the United States government to replace the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals
policy, may unjustifiably punish undocumented immigrants and limit economic success for the
country.
Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, more commonly known as DACA, is a program that was
enacted by the Obama Administration in 2012 (Cullinane et al.). DACA provides certain rights to
young people, known as Dreamers, who were brought to America illegally by their parents. The rights
of DACA recipients include deprioritization for removal, deferred action, and employment
authorization (Bier). In order to be eligible for DACA, young undocumented immigrants must have
lived in the U.S. since 15 June 2007, arrived in the U.S. before the age of sixteen, have no criminal
records, and be enrolled in high school or college; or serve in the military ( DACA Information ). The

As mention before, it is difficult for the players to achieved complete randomization on the moves.
Players will follow some sort of pattern, unconsciously, that the opponents might observe. Therefore,
they can observe the opponents strategy or action history or own payoff history. As a player, we can
observe the pattern being used by our opponents and develop a strategy to counteract the moves. Of
course, this could lead to another learning process for our opponents, for we ourselves, in the end, will
develop the pattern to beat the opponents pattern. Opponents may realize this and change their pattern.
Through this learning process, players will update (increase or decrease) their probability for each
move. Most likely because the win or loss experience described previously. The update also might be
led aversion of risk form the players. Memory of recent events and sluggishness in changing opinion
also can contribute in the change of probability of the throws. * Previous research Len Fischer try to

California Heritage Language
The United States is known as the world s melting pot. However, California adopts this title to a
greater extent, as California accepts immigrants from a variety of different countries. Heritage
languages specifically have impacted the state of California as the diverse languages enable first,
second, and third generation speakers to all connect and communicate. Throughout California, there
are specific regions in which a particular language is most prevalent. Languages like Hebrew, Italian,
Armenian, Korean, and variations of Chinese are represented with their own sector in California.
These areas strengthen the ethnolinguistic vitality of these languages. Previously to this class, I was
not aware of the different dialects that were common in California. If I were to hear someone speaking
Chicano English or African American English I would unrightfully assume that they were speaking
English incorrectly. However, throughout this course I learned each of these dialects contains their
own unique rules, which make them grammatically and linguistically correct. Even though these
dialects are linguistically equal, that does not make them socially equal. Besides accented English, non
English speakers are generally judged based on their accent. This however, is linguistic profiling,
which is illegal in the United States. It is hard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The tale of Catullus and his affair with Lesbia is an interesting one. He conveys his emotions of love,
happiness, sadness, and possibly anger throughout the poems. In V, their love affair is in its
honeymoon stage of extreme love and affection. Catullus especially conveys these emotions in the line
Let thoughts kisses rain, a thousand bliss. The poem sounds as if he were directly talking to Lesbia
and telling her to be just as enraptured by their love as he is. Although her emotions are not revealed,
both characters are most likely very emotionally invested in one another. The poem LXXXVII

How The Events Of 1984 Have Made Them Who They Are
1984
Chris McCloskey
Hillsborough Community College
October 27, 2014
Abstract. In these questions I will analyze the characters while focusing on how the events in 1984
have made them who they are. I will also discuss the types of conditioning in the book and give
examples of the conditioning. Then I will talk about some of the laws or regulations in the world today
that I find to be not constitutional. Finally I will define progressicism, socialism, communism and
Marxism, and who founded them.
1. The characters in 1984 are trained to be collectivists because they stride for social harmony and the
satisfaction in life is based on the success of the group as a whole. An example of this is everyone jobs
is to make sure that Oceania succeeds against East Asia. (Orwell)
2. The all of the characters that have conformed have the same personalities, they are all obedient.
However Winston and Julia are rebellious and stray from the norm. I do not think they have
psychological disorder because a psychological disorder is someone who deviates from the norm and
those who are found to do so are executed.
3. In the society there is both operant and classical conditioning. One example of operant conditioning
is when the prisoners are hung out in front of all the people to see in the streets and on the TVs. An
example of the classical conditioning is in the beginning of the book they showed the face of a trader
and everyone

Conctionalism In The Theory Of The Critical Accounting Theory
Critical Accounting Theory
According to Oluwadare and Samy (2015) from the Canadian Social Science, Critical Accounting
Theory is about understanding accounting in the context of its broad socio politics, evaluating the
accounting policies and practices that exist, and offering means of working towards more enabling
accountings. It generally puts a focus on accounting s role to keep those in control of particular
resources in their positions while those without any capital to have their voices undermined or
restricted. Critical theory advances beyond the rational view of the traditional functionalist in terms of
accounting and accounting research. It aims to help in the disclosure of the accountability of
organisations as well as increasing the environmental stability. This is theory is contextual, meaning it
focuses more on political, economic and social consequences (Laughlin, 1999). It could be said that it
is similar to corporate social responsibility, but it is actually beyond that as corporate social
responsibility has a tendency to focus on the parties that can potentially be affected by the decisions of
the firm, inadvertently ignoring minor parties, while Critical Accounting Theory wants to put the
focus on society as a whole. In his research, Laughlin (1987) states that there are three relevant points
of the critical theory for accounting research. Firstly, the critical accounting theory creates a link
between theory and practice. Secondly, critique, change and

Popularity of Soccer Around the World Essay
Popularity of Soccer Around the World
I am going to talk about the most popular sport in the world: football. Now, you may be having visions
of huge quarterbacks, dressed up in their padding and helmets, parading down the field during the
Super Bowl. But the other kind of football, the football the rest of the world knows, has no padding or
helmets. This other football is known in America as soccer. In more than 175 countries across the
globe, football, or soccer, rates as the number 1 national sport.
Football dates back as far as thousands of years ago. There are records that show that ancient
civilizations of Greece, Egypt, and China (among others) played an age old form of football with a
stuffed leather ball. Early games in Old ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the present there are more than 2 million players registered with official football organizations, and
about 275,000 clubs play in official leagues and tournaments. The World Cup, held every four years, is
the highlight of football tournaments. Held by FIFA (of course), it lasts 1 month, and on this month,
the world s eyes are on the World Cup. In 1994, over 1 billion people watched the World Cup, and the
events leading up to it. The fans are everything to football. The pride of their city or country equals the
pride of their football team.
A football game is not about sitting and quietly watching the game while eating hotdogs and peanuts...
it is a wild fiasco! The fans dress up in costumes and their team colors, they paint their faces and
bodies and sing songs in unison about their team. The stadiums are gigantic and chaotic. The
Maracana Stadium in Brazil is usually filled up to it s capacity with 220,000 screaming fans. Once,
many Brazilian fans fainted in the stands when they lost to Uruguay. The popularity of this sport also
has it s downsides. It has even been deadly. For instance, in 1969 the qualifying games between El
Salvador and Honduras caused a war between the 2 countries. There had been conflict between the
countries, but things boiled over when they clashed on the playing field, sparking a full scale war that
lasted 2 weeks.

Here are few ways in which you can avoid illegitimate websites.
Checking online reviews
Before selecting a source to buy things online, it is important that you would check what people have
to say about the website. If people do not have a positive feedback about a particular website, you can
draw the conclusion that that website is not dependable. Similarly, if most customers have given a
positive feedback about the website, it can be counted as a reliable option. This is one of the
significant steps to buy accessories and customers need to adopt a careful approach in this relation. Do
not count on the reviews that have been mentioned on the website of the company because most of
them are not factual. In addition to that, a website owner can post anything that they want to on their
website. Going through search engine reviews is a highly reliable option that you can count on to
choose a website. You can also determine whether a website is not suitable or not simply

Bobo Doll Experiment Essay
Homework assignment #1
In the Bobo Doll experiment conducted by Albert Bandura, researchers were interested in testing
children s behavior in response to their exposure to violence. This study was constructed with 72
children, 36 boys and 36 girls from Stanford University Nursery School. Before the study began, each
child was individually scored on his or her level of aggression towards others, as rated by the
experimenter and the child s teacher. Then the children were separated into groups based on a similar
score of aggression. The children were separated into three groups of 24 children. The three groups
allowed the experimenter to create the conditions used to test the children s response to violence,
which was the independent variable, as it affects the children s aggressive behavior, the dependent
variable. The first group of subjects was the aggressive model group, where the subjects were

Attitudes are positive or negative evaluations of a particular thing. Operant conditioning is the process
in which people learn though their experience of rewards or punishments. Observational learning is
learning by observing others, but we do not need to experience rewards and punishments. This being
said, in the study, there was no negative attitude towards the children behaving violently. Operant
conditioning uses punishments and rewards to fashion behavior, and in this study, the children were
rewarded by being able to play with toys and given time to play however they wanted without the
punishment for their actions, producing a positive attitude towards the aggression displayed.
Observational learning is the basis of the whole study, as it was proved with this study that by
observing others we can learn just as we learn through personal experience. We do not need to only
experience things in order to learn

Marxist Feminism And The Marxist Analysis Of Television Show
Marxist Analysis of Television shows In our society, there are many forms of mediated texts ranging
from newspapers and magazines to films and television shows. Each of these media forms can be seen
from different theoretical perspectives and analyzed to understand the different concepts that may
influence them. Television shows are one of the most popular media texts with approximately 400 new
shows airing each year (Ryan, 2016). However, it is often very unlikely for these television shows to
strive as 65% are cancelled after their first season (Ocasio, 2012). This then, brings Marxist scholars
into the picture as they are interested in how economic factors affect the production and distribution of
media content (Mack Ott, 2016). The Marxist theoretical perspective allows Marxist scholars to study
television shows in order to understand why they were cancelled and how certain roles in the media
lead to this. Marxism is a perspective that was first introduced in the mid 1800 s by Karl Marx and is
still applied to situations today. Marxism believes that the mode of production in society determines
the social relations of productions (Mack Ott, 2016). It is considered to be a materialistic philosophy
as it has a strong focus on the material world and how it plays a part in human thought. This helps in
learning more about the product consumption of the media industry and how social institutions such as
family structures, religion and education reflect on different

Reflection On Cultural Communication
During the implementation of the research plan, I did have a few issues and changes I had to adjust
with a few methods that I had previously stated. The one idea I completely removed from my plan was
the idea of traveling to Houston with Bhavik to visit with him and his family members due to the busy
holiday schedule, nothing could be worked out. On the plus side, using social media he was able to
send me videos and snapchats of Hindu decorations, food and videos of him spending time with his
family and although the clips were short it gave a good sense of how the culture was still instilled in
their family even though they now reside in the United States. As I was getting started off on the
project and my research the conversation seemed to be easier said than done. Although, I was very
fortunate enough to know someone of another culture beforehand for the project ultimately it created a
challenging task during the discussions making it slightly harder to stay on topic. After the first few
meetings, we planned to get together and focus on correcting the issue of staying on topic and it
seemed to decrease after time and the flow of cultural communication was more achievable and easier
to stay on the subject.
Overall, I believe a majority of my plan was a success, I personally feel both of us were very open to
the topic and I was intrigued at the subjects we discussed including his background and the way in
which he was brought up in Trinidad and the United States. Then to go on to become not only a high
school biology and anatomy teacher but, a small business owner as well as a private jeweler, his story
in a way really adds up to be the ideal of the American dream. Discussing his cultural beliefs in
Hinduism and family values, one part of my plan that I also altered was not only taking detailed notes,
but I was also able to have my research and sources done prior to easily compare the similarities and
differences with how he viewed certain aspects in Hinduism compared to my sources. Comparing the
research to our conversations I was very surprised at the cultural beliefs as well as the cultural family
values were alike each other and how he was still very educated about his culture even though having

Jap An Electronic Wonderland
The Akihabara district of Tokyo, Japan is an electronic wonderland with endless sights to see and a
history that doesn t seem to fit its light hearted appearance. Once a post war black market, Akihabara
is now the center of all things relating to anime, manga, and videogames ( Akihabara ). Traveling to
this unique location would be an experience that would not be forgotten. Akihabara has always been
an important location in Japan, even during the Edo period. It was a crossroad that was often traveled

Poor university students would search the markets for the best price on radio parts and then use said
parts to create a radio to resell (DrSenbei). However, the black market craze did not last too long
because open air markets were banned in 1949 to stop the unregulated trades. Stall owners fought
back by rallying with the Vendors Union at government buildings. The government s response was to
allot space for the merchants on the station grounds. Many merchants went around this by building
their own stores, some of which were seven stories tall. They used these stores to capitalize the post
war economy through the sale of household electronics (DrSenbei). The next generation had unlimited
luxuries because of their fathers large salaries. Their time was occupied with any new gadget that
came out, and they sparked the beginning of the otaku (diehard fan) revolution that has now taken
over Akihabara.
With the creation of computers and the internet, the building blocks for a new Akihabara were set in
place. Computer shops sprang up all throughout the district and the population began to shift from full
families to young men looking to set up shop. Personal Computers were being sold more often than
household electronics by 1994. This is what truly changed the future of the Akihabara district
(DrSenbei). A few doujinshi (a fan made manga) shops began to pop up in the district, most having
been run by employees at computer

Against Same-Sex-Marriage
Against Same Sex Marriage Marriage is the formal relationship between a man and a woman, usually
recognized by the law, by which they become husband and wife. In terms of legal recognition and
acknowledgement, the majority of states, authorities, and jurisdiction limit marriage to opposite sex
couples or two persons of opposite gender. Same sex marriage would weaken the definition and
respect for the institution of marriage. When discussing same sex marriage, the true meaning and
definition of marriage is the topic that often comes up, which is why it is very significant to remember
the true importance of marriage. I strongly believe that same sex marriage should not be legalized
because it would harm many individuals. If same sex marriage is legalized, the birth rates would
decrease, fewer children would be raised by an opposite married parents, and medical insurance
costs/charges would rise. Legalizing same sex marriage would cause the birth rates to decrease. One
of the most basic tasks or responsibilities of any human society is to reproduce. Marriage, which is the
privilege of male female sexual relationship, is given to every human society because it is the only
type of relationship that has the capability of natural procreation. Offering the benefits and status of
marriage to those who are not capable of natural procreation would dramatically and negatively
change the society. The long term consequences would be that fewer opposite sex relationships would

Boy In The Striped Pajamas
The movie, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, by John Boyne, keeps the memory of the Holocaust alive
by recounting it history through a tale. The story focuses on a family who lives right next to the death
camp in Nazi Germany during the Second World War. Bruno, unaware his father is placed in
command of the death camp, makes friends with a boy behind the fence. I believe this movie should
have been made. This story approaches the holocaust through fictional characters while staying true to
the facts throughout the movie by utilizing a child s perception, use of wording, and keeping to the
facts.

example of the movie staying authentic to the corruption that had taken place of the Holocaust. The
father uses the form of doublespeak when he said, The thing is Bruno, those people, they are not really

Plath s use of the number nine is yet another key to solving the riddle.
Continuing the descriptions of the physical transformation of pregnancy, Plath uses another metaphor
in line two: An elephant, a ponderous house, (2). The first metaphor of the elephant displays the
physical transformation a pregnant woman undergoes. The obvious transformations of weight gain
and unflattering associations of slow and difficult gait (Devi, p. 2, 2006) are reflected in the elephant
metaphor. The ponderous house refers the bulky figure of a pregnant woman ( Metaphors: Lines 1 4,
2008). G. Devi also points out that the woman is like a house as the speaker sees herself as a shelter
for the child growing inside her (p. 2, 2006).
Plath again portrays the physical changes of pregnancy in line three: A melon strolling on two tendrils
(3). The line s imagery allows the reader to gain a mental picture of a large melon carefully walking
on two thin legs. This line also employs personification as the melon is given the human quality of
walking ( Metaphors: Lines 1 4, 2008). The melon is also metaphor of fertility. Like a fetus, a melon
fruit is the most valuable part of the plant (Devi, p. 2, 2006). Plath continues the value of pregnancy in
line four: O red fruit, ivory, fine timbers! (4). The items listed in this line are all of high value. The red
fruit is the most valuable

Research Paper On Speciesism
Speciesism In our everyday lives we do not normally think about where the chicken came from on our
sandwich, nor do we think or care about how it once use to be a living and breathing being. This lack
of acknowledgement and empathy for other species is called speciesism. The term speciesism is
coined by psychologist Richard D. Ryder but it is more associated with philosophers Tom Regan and
Peter Singer.
In the Merriam Webster dictionary speciesism is defined as 1. Prejudice or discrimination based on
species; especially discrimination against animals; 2. the assumption of human superiority on which
speciesism is based. Thus the main concept of speciesism is all beings are equal. Even in our own
history we are speciesist towards one another. Racism and sexism are the most thought of analogies
for speciesism. Since World War II this has become a major issue in the United States, (Crobett,
paragraph 5) and after the world saw what Adolf Hitler did to the Jews and other prisoners in the
concentration camps, people wanted equality for race, religion, and gender. Now it is an everyday

discrimination. A prime example of this is the Ku Klux Kian, who brutally beat and killed black ...

Although some people do not have as many riches as others, they could be happier. This could be

Divine Law versus Human Law Essay
Divine Law versus Human Law
Sophocles famous play, Antigone, can be perceived as a conflict between individual conscience and
state policy. Yet the issue of the play goes beyond that conflict and touches the universal conditions of
suffering, religion, and loyalty. Through Antigone s character which represents the spheres of family
loyalty, divine law, and human suffering, Sophocles conveys the idea that a law of man that violates
religious law is not a law at all. He expresses this idea by having Antigone dutifully bury her brother s
body although it is against King Kreon s ruling. Antigone s action is not only an act of family loyalty
but is an act of piety demanded by the gods. The play commences with Antigone announcing her ...

Suffering is a universal condition that the characters in the play must deal with. Since the day
Polyneices and Eteokles died, Ismene suffers by not being capable of having emotions. She says to
Antigone: Nothing makes me happy, nothing hurts me anymore (Sophocles 22). The loss of loved
ones can cause one to suffer but to not honor those who died can cause a vast amount of distress.
Because Eteokles was honorably buried and Polyneices was not, Antigone suffered for her brother; the
guilt built every second he remained unburied. She does not regret burying her brother by saying, But
if I had let my own brother stay unburied/I would have suffered all the pain I do not feel now
(Sophocles 572 3). She would rather bury her brother and go against the state than live her life in pain.
She is independent in her decision because she would is willing to suffer her own death so she won t
suffer her brother s death any longer: I m ready to suffer for it and to die./Let me. No suffering could
be so terrible as to die for nothing (Sophocles 120 3). She is conveying that no matter what, she will
suffer. If she does nothing for her brother she will suffer and if she does, she will suffer the death
penalty. It is better, she concludes, to suffer and die out of loyalty to her own family. Although Ismene

The Safety Of A Food Supply
The stability of a food supply is often the most important thing a society can offer to its people.
However, in a changing global environment filled with bacteria, viruses, and disease, scientists and
farmers have continually tried to find ways to make food safer for consumers. The normal way
currently is to use pesticides and preservatives to keep diseases at bay and keep food from going bad
and possibly causing harm to those who eat it. Some researchers, however, are still looking for safer
and more effective ways to preserve food, and the idea of food irradiation has been around since the
early 1900 s. Anything involving radiation often scared consumers and makes them not trust the
quality of the food, because they do not believe that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The FDA greatly expanded the use of food irradiation in the year 1986, even though it was already
used for things such as wheat, flour, and potatoes. Before this time, radiation was thought of in food
terms as an additive, not a process the food must go through. In fact, by 1988, some nineteen major
countries had laws in place that allowed for certain foods to be irradiated to help better preserve them.
The world is beginning to realize this form of preservation as a viable option, and the only thing left is
for the consumer and the government to decide whether or not this should be a commonly used
method.
Food irradiation has many variables that make it exactly what it is. There are different types of
irradiation that work on different types of food, and accomplish different tasks such as sterilization,
disease prevention, or even acting as an insect repellent. The thing that truly defines the different
types, however, is the type of radiation used. The most effective types include electron beam radiation,
gamma ray radiation, and x ray radiation. Electron beam radiation is the shortest in terms of time
needed to irradiate the food, but it also does not penetrate very deep, only about half a centimeter. This
type of ray radiation is used to merely disinfect things like wheat and some grains. Gamma ray
radiation is the use of Cobalt 60 in most places to irradiate the food. In fact, this type of radiation can
penetrate up to six inches.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Haematoxylin
Abstract
Haematoxylin is a natural dye which stains poorly unless it is combined with different metallic salts
known as mordants. A mordant is a metal with a valence of at least two. The most common metals
used in histology are aluminum and ferric iron (both have a valence of three).
The combination of haematoxylin and a mordant is called a haematoxylin lake. There are several
haematoxylin lakes and they vary in colour. The different types of haematoxylin lakes are: Alum

one receives God s power to be delivered from the bondage of sin. Salvation is of grace through the

Why Did the Discoveries of the Renaissance Make Little...
Why did the discoveries of the Renaissance make little practical difference to medical treatment
between c1500 c1700?
During the renaissance there were 3 significant figures, who were Andreas Vesalius who was famous
for his knowledge in anatomy, Ambroise Paré who was famous for his advances in surgery, and
William Harvey who was famous for working out how the body worked (physiology). These three
made extremely big and definitely important discoveries, but for different reasons never really at the
time came about to have an importance.
Andreas Vesalius published a book entitled The Fabric of the Human Body which was published
around the time that printing first came about. His specialism was anatomy, and in the book that he ...

William Harvey published the book called An Anatomical Account of the Motion of the Heart and
Blood in Animals which was officially published a fair time after the other two s books. He proved
that the heart acts as a pump by recirculating the blood, and showed that the blood flows around the
body and is carried away by the arteries and is carried back into the heart by the veins. This had a
limited impact because likewise to Vesalius, it did not make anyone healthier at the time, and it made
more of a long term impact on medicine. He had not found a way to practically cure people because
he had just made a book to further people s knowledge on how the body works. Although his book is
very useful for us nowadays, at the time people would not know how to approach it, and really wouldn
t make much of an impact on the people s health.
In conclusion, the main reason that I believe is the answer to not having much of a change in the
Renaissance is the people s attitude to change. For example, even though they knew deep down that
something wasn t working, they would still go ahead and use it because of the fact that it was what
they were used to. The great discoveries that were made by Vesalius, Paré and Harvey did not improve
people s health day to day, but instead made a serious impact in the general history of medicine. They
showed that the only persons attitude that was going to change was those of the rich and the

Essay on Toyota s Supply Chain Q A
Problem
In January 2010, some of the Toyota, Lexus and Pontiac vehicles were recalled because of problems
about defective accelerator pedals made from CTS Corporation, a leading automotive supplier in
North America, Europe, and Asia. The problems are related to the friction inside the moving part of
the units that controls the pedal to return as soon as the pressure on the pedal is released. This friction
should be designed to consistently corresponsive to the pressure on the pedal, in both pressed and
released positions, so that the drivers can smoothly control the speed of the vehicles. It is thought that
the condensation caused by cold weather is one of the reasons that lead to an increase of the friction.
Another reason is related to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though CTS controverted that it created the gas pedals as the specification given by Toyota, the
gas pedals of vehicles which are assembled with other suppliers do not have any problem. Ferrari
States that Toyota and CTS have participated in developing a new pedal to meet a Toyota specification
(Ferrari, 2010). Therefore, because of the faulty of outsourcing, it enables the large number of Toyota
and Lexus was recalled.
Solution
As a result of the sticky gas pedals, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or NHTSA
(2010) indicates that Toyota has recalled the affected vehicles including 2.3 million. The owners of the
involved vehicles may have their gas pedals repaired, free of charge, at any Toyota dealers to prevent
the possible problems. Each dealer is provided with the necessary parts and training to effectively deal
with the problems. In the case of the existing units, the gas pedals will be modified to quickly fix the
problems related to the increased friction inside the units. There is a spring inside the assembly that
responsible for the pedal to return when the pressure is released. With the buildup friction, it will take
longer time for the spring to move the pedal back to the non accelerated position. A reinforcement bar
made of precision cut steel will be inserted behind the spring to

Descriptive Essay About A Fair Party
Fair Party 2017 The lamp post lights are shining down on us as were sitting on benches in a little
circle. It s nighttime out at the 2017 Fulton County Fair. Groups of people are lining up to get into the
fair for the Loverboy and Survivor Classic Rock concert. A few hours later the concert will be over
and people will be going home. That means it s time to pull the money trick on people as they leave
the concert later. My friends and I are at a party at my cousins camper. Hey guys! said my cousin nick
and all his friends. Hey, me, Gracie, Bekah, and Kenzie said. As they were walking towards us you
could hear the loud slurping of them all drinking their milkshakes. Nick introduced me, Gracie and
Kenzie to all his friends. His friends names were Brock, Payton, Ethan, Cody, and Trey. After we all
introduced ourselves to each other we walked over to a big area with bases. Who should be on each
team, Nick asked. I don t care let s just make them even, Gracie said. We all divided ourselves up into
teams and started playing. My Team was in the field while Nick s team was up to kick. Nick was the
first kicker up, and I was pitching. Gracie, Kenzie, Cody, and Ethan were behind me getting ready for
Nick to kick. I pitch nick the ball then wham! The kickball went right into Gracie s face. It hit her
pretty good. We took a timeout until we decided to go back to the camper and do something else.
When we got back there about a hour left until the concert was over. Do you

The Interpretation Of A Human

English Survey of British Literature

The Interpretation of a Human
How do a creature s actions portray them as human or monstrous? In what way do those who are not
human act or look and if not human, then what are they? In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, it is
observed that humans are characterized by showing compassion towards others and having character
flaws, but Victor s creature s grotesque physical appearance causes society to abandon him. Humans
will always have flaws and make mistakes, and this makes them human, but also shows one of the
weaknesses that humans have. When Victor has destroyed the second creature in spite of his first
creation, the malevolent creature shows up and foreshadows that something bad will happen on Victor
s wedding night. This leads Victor to narrate, The prospect did not move me to fear; yet when I
thought of my beloved Elizabeth, of her tears and endless sorrow, when she should find her lover so
barbarously snatched from her (Shelly 156). Victor thinks about himself and is blind to the notion that
his wife might possibly die. This proves that Victor s display of self centeredness is a trait that makes
him human. After Victor had discovered that his creation had been the real murderer of his relative,
William, he is shocked to find out that his cousin Justine Moritz had been accused and he says, My
tale was not one to announce publicly; its astounding horror would be looked upon as madness

The Movie Lawrence Of Arabia
In the movie Lawrence of Arabia, director David Lean portrays the real life story of British Lieutenant
T. E. Lawrence. Lawrence, an incredibly multifaceted gentleman who was characterized just about
any name from madman to brilliant, shined during his daring encounters in the Arab world during the
first World War. The story of Lawrence begins when he is killed in a crash while on his motorcycle,
then rewinds to recap his adventures in the Arab world. Lawrence was assigned to oversee the Arab
revolution against the Turks due to his extensive knowledge of the region. While in the desert,
Lawrence finds Prince Faisal, then with the aid of the Prince in addition to Sherif Ali, they mount
impressive attacks over the span of two years against the Turks. The attacks involved several raids,
train attacks also surprise attacks on camels. The attack on the fortified Turkish port of Aqaba, was
considered impossible. It was considered as such due to the arduous journey through the harsh desert.
After crossing the arduous desert along with the actions taken during the journey, Lawrence cemented
his legitimacy among the Arabs specifically after obtaining allies in the process. While in the end, he
is victorious, it came at personal expenses to Lawrence himself as he was captured along with being
tortured during the events. The movie ends with Lawrence being promoted to Colonel then sent back
to England. While Lawrence had many moments of success throughout his time in the

The Meaning Of Gay And Homosexuality
Our world changes day by day. Humans grow, evolve, and adjust to the modern world. As our world
advances, our language and terminology progresses along with it. A word that has changed completely
in definition is gay , it has two completely different meanings. Today gay means, of, relating to, or
exhibiting sexual desire or behavior directed toward a person or persons of one s own sex;
homosexual (The Definition of Gay). and in the 12th century gay meant happy or carefree (How Gay)
How did the definition of this word change so greatly over the years?
Gay came about in the 12th century, with the meaning of carefree , joyful , or bright and showy (How
Gay). The word is first recorded in English c.1325, with the meaning of beautiful, in a poem titled
Blow, Northerne Wind, which appears in the manuscript British Library MS Harley 2253. The English
word comes from the French gai, but where this French word comes from is uncertain (Word
Origins.org.). The first meaning of gay was once meant to have a meaning of happiness. People woke
up hoping to have a gay day.
By the 17th century gay started to change from meaning bright and showy to mean immorality . By
the mid 17th century, according to an Oxford dictionary definition at the time, the meaning of the
word had changed to mean addicted to pleasures and dissipations. Often euphemistically: Of loose and
immoral life (How Gay). In the span of five hundred years this word began to greatly change from

  • 2. Student Success Day Research Paper Student Success Day was just that for me: a success. I was able to help at the expo and learn about various intriguing clubs. I had not know there were so many extra curricular opportunities at RCTC. Moreover, the sessions I attended were helpful and informative and I appreciate the hardwork that went into making student success day a success. Prior to the first talk I attended, which was on professionalism, I had not thought about professional etiquette seriously, but with interviews and jobs looming ahead this talk was immeasurably valuable. The most important thing I took away was this: be respectable both online and off. For example, the speaker emphasized keeping negative comments about anything related to the workplace off social media. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Dark Knight Adaptations Introduction: In 2005 Christopher Nolan spearheaded the commercial re boot of the Batman franchise with the movie Batman Begins, the movie achieved wide critical acclaim, and, subsequently generated, talk of a sequel. In the summer of 2008, after a vast amount of advertising and viral marketing, the highly anticipated sequel was finally released. The film The Dark Knight grossed almost $67,165,092 in its first day and went on to break countless box office records. Later the next year the film won 2 Oscars and was nominated for a further 6, one award won was the Best Supporting Actor award which the late Heath Ledger posthumously received, for his portrayal of the Joker . The number of movies adapted from comic books has, in recent years, become more and more popular, and more comic book films are being released now than in the past. In this essay I will explore the reasons why this pattern has emerged and potential reasons for the prevalence of comic book adaptations in post 9/11 cinema . The Dark Knight: Throughout The Dark Knight the terrorist attacks of 9/11 are continuously mirrored; terrorism as an overall theme is also reflected throughout the movie, Phillip French of the Guardian newspaper states that The Dark Knight shows us a post 9/11 Manichaean view of the world . Even within the initial marketing of the film and in the various viral campaigns employed, we see reflections of the 9/11 attacks on New York. In one of the main advertising posters for the movie we see the protagonist Batman standing in the fore ground of the picture, in front of a huge sky scraping building, not unfamiliar to one of the Twin Towers, the top of the building is ablaze, with; brick, ash and various pieces of shrapnel falling to the ground. With this powerful image we, before we have even seen the movie, receive flashbacks of the tragic events of 9/11. The poster as well as promoting Batman, makes us subconsciously, maybe naively, want to see the movie as it is related to the horrible attacks on New York. Again in relation to the 9/11 attacks, people may want to watch the film to see how terrorism is portrayed in the movie, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If the working conditions weren t so flammable, maybe this fire could have never happened. There were about tons of scraps, and they used paper as thin as air. If the workers and managers were more aware of these things, there could have never been a fire. The Triangle Shirtwaist could have not lost 145 workers that day if they had been more considerate. To begin with, the working conditions were very poor. Their employees worked in cramped lines at their sewing machines. The girls worked twelve hours a day, everyday. At the eighth floor, there were bins and bins of scraps, since the last time they were picked up and sold to cotton mills was January, and the fire happened midway into March. There were four elevators, but only one was working, so the workers had to file a long like to use it. They had two stairways that led to the streets, but one of them was locked from the outside to prevent robbery. Finally, the fire escape was so narrow that it would take hours to have all the workers use it, even if luck was on their side. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Quality of the end product has been an obstacle in America for decades. In the post World War II era as production of products in America rose, the quality of those products diminished. A deeper look will reveal a TQM approach by the administrators and management at all levels. The most obvious TQM is the establishment of guidelines for the alignment of the organization to achieve the standards set forth by the Joint Commission of Accredited Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). The JCAHO was developed to provide guidelines for healthcare organizations to provide safe, quality patient care. Olaudah Equiano s The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, or Gustavus Vassa, the African, Written by Himself, is the story of the eponymous real life character, Olaudah Equiano, his life, trials, tribulations and journey from slavery at an early age to freedom. For Equiano, it seems that slavery is almost a metaphysical phenomenon. His entire life is essentially characterized by the different experiences relating slavery, from Africa to the Middle Passage to plantation life in the West Indies and United States. Equiano s views on slavery are tough to articulate and truly complex. He details being shocked and hurt to the point where he tries to wash the color of his skin off his face. While travelling the seas with Pascal, Equiano has many more encounters in and with Britain. With more and more exposure to Christianity and European culture, he details that he was no longer frightened and apprehensive towards it, beginning to show confluence of African and European cultures. He was eventually sent to school in Britain, educated and shortly after, baptized. It is worth noting that later in the novel he often relates his new religious standpoint to his enslavement. While becoming a Christian himself, whether or not he holds responsible God, himself, or the hypocritical Christian Europeans for his enslavement is left ambiguous. Ultimately, (and after brief stints of being purchased by other masters) Equiano is sold to Robert King. Educated and under the direction of a master treating him relatively fair, Equiano here observes another facet of slavery. He is further educated and directed along the path of Christianity, which I believe further adds more conflicting emotion, due to it being comparable to his original notion of slavery from his childhood. While working for King on shipping routes, he determines himself to save some money on the side, in order to buy his freedom from King. Interesting to note though, in the novel he explicitly states that he would like to return to Old England, not Africa. While I think this is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We were strangers once, too ( Immigrant Quotes ). The United States is a nation of immigrants. However, immigrants, especially those who are undocumented, face intense prejudice and discrimination. In recent times, the legal rights of young undocumented immigrants have been compromised due to the repeal of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. Furthermore, the state of the country is likely to suffer at the hands of the repeal which will have rippling negative results. The reluctance of the United States government to replace the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy, may unjustifiably punish undocumented immigrants and limit economic success for the country. However, throughout this course I learned each of these dialects contains their own unique rules, which make them grammatically and linguistically correct. In these questions I will analyze the characters while focusing on how the events in 1984 have made them who they are. I will also discuss the types of conditioning in the book and give examples of the conditioning. Then I will talk about some of the laws or regulations in the world today that I find to be not constitutional. Finally I will define progressicism, socialism, communism and Marxism, and who founded them. 1. The characters in 1984 are trained to be collectivists because they stride for social harmony and the satisfaction in life is based on the success of the group as a whole. An example of this is everyone jobs is to make sure that Oceania succeeds against East Asia. (Orwell) 2. The all of the characters that have conformed have the same personalities, they are all obedient. However Winston and Julia are rebellious and stray from the norm. I do not think they have psychological disorder because a psychological disorder is someone who deviates from the norm and those who are found to do so are executed. 3. In the society there is both operant and classical conditioning. One example of operant conditioning is when the prisoners are hung out in front of all the people to see in the streets and on the TVs. An example of the classical conditioning is in the beginning of the book they showed the face of a trader and everyone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Conctionalism In The Theory Of The Critical Accounting Theory Critical Accounting Theory According to Oluwadare and Samy (2015) from the Canadian Social Science, Critical Accounting Theory is about understanding accounting in the context of its broad socio politics, evaluating the accounting policies and practices that exist, and offering means of working towards more enabling accountings. It generally puts a focus on accounting s role to keep those in control of particular resources in their positions while those without any capital to have their voices undermined or restricted. Critical theory advances beyond the rational view of the traditional functionalist in terms of accounting and accounting research. It aims to help in the disclosure of the accountability of organisations as well as increasing the environmental stability. This is theory is contextual, meaning it focuses more on political, economic and social consequences (Laughlin, 1999). It could be said that it is similar to corporate social responsibility, but it is actually beyond that as corporate social responsibility has a tendency to focus on the parties that can potentially be affected by the decisions of the firm, inadvertently ignoring minor parties, while Critical Accounting Theory wants to put the focus on society as a whole. In his research, Laughlin (1987) states that there are three relevant points of the critical theory for accounting research. Firstly, the critical accounting theory creates a link between theory and practice. Secondly, critique, change and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1994, over 1 billion people watched the World Cup, and the events leading up to it. The fans are everything to football. The pride of their city or country equals the pride of their football team. A football game is not about sitting and quietly watching the game while eating hotdogs and peanuts... it is a wild fiasco! The fans dress up in costumes and their team colors, they paint their faces and bodies and sing songs in unison about their team. The stadiums are gigantic and chaotic. Bobo Doll Experiment Essay Homework assignment #1 In the Bobo Doll experiment conducted by Albert Bandura, researchers were interested in testing children s behavior in response to their exposure to violence. This study was constructed with 72 children, 36 boys and 36 girls from Stanford University Nursery School. Before the study began, each child was individually scored on his or her level of aggression towards others, as rated by the experimenter and the child s teacher. Then the children were separated into groups based on a similar score of aggression. The children were separated into three groups of 24 children. • 25. Marxist Feminism And The Marxist Analysis Of Television Show Marxist Analysis of Television shows In our society, there are many forms of mediated texts ranging from newspapers and magazines to films and television shows. Each of these media forms can be seen from different theoretical perspectives and analyzed to understand the different concepts that may influence them. Television shows are one of the most popular media texts with approximately 400 new shows airing each year (Ryan, 2016). However, it is often very unlikely for these television shows to strive as 65% are cancelled after their first season (Ocasio, 2012). This then, brings Marxist scholars into the picture as they are interested in how economic factors affect the production and distribution of media content (Mack Ott, 2016). The Marxist theoretical perspective allows Marxist scholars to study television shows in order to understand why they were cancelled and how certain roles in the media lead to this. Marxism is a perspective that was first introduced in the mid 1800 s by Karl Marx and is still applied to situations today. Marxism believes that the mode of production in society determines the social relations of productions (Mack Ott, 2016). The one idea I completely removed from my plan was the idea of traveling to Houston with Bhavik to visit with him and his family members due to the busy holiday schedule, nothing could be worked out. On the plus side, using social media he was able to send me videos and snapchats of Hindu decorations, food and videos of him spending time with his family and although the clips were short it gave a good sense of how the culture was still instilled in their family even though they now reside in the United States. As I was getting started off on the project and my research the conversation seemed to be easier said than done. Although, I was very fortunate enough to know someone of another culture beforehand for the project ultimately it created a challenging task during the discussions making it slightly harder to stay on topic. After the first few meetings, we planned to get together and focus on correcting the issue of staying on topic and it seemed to decrease after time and the flow of cultural communication was more achievable and easier to stay on the subject. Overall, I believe a majority of my plan was a success, I personally feel both of us were very open to the topic and I was intrigued at the subjects we discussed including his background and the way in which he was brought up in Trinidad and the United States. Then to go on to become not only a high school biology and anatomy teacher but, a small business owner as well as a private jeweler, his story in a way really adds up to be the ideal of the American dream. Discussing his cultural beliefs in Hinduism and family values, one part of my plan that I also altered was not only taking detailed notes, but I was also able to have my research and sources done prior to easily compare the similarities and differences with how he viewed certain aspects in Hinduism compared to my sources. Comparing the research to our conversations I was very surprised at the cultural beliefs as well as the cultural family values were alike each other and how he was still very educated about his culture even though having been ... Same sex marriage would weaken the definition and respect for the institution of marriage. The obvious transformations of weight gain and unflattering associations of slow and difficult gait (Devi, p. 2, 2006) are reflected in the elephant metaphor. The ponderous house refers the bulky figure of a pregnant woman ( Metaphors: Lines 1 4, 2008). G. The line s imagery allows the reader to gain a mental picture of a large melon carefully walking on two thin legs. This line also employs personification as the melon is given the human quality of walking ( Metaphors: Lines 1 4, 2008). The melon is also metaphor of fertility. In fact, by 1988, some nineteen major countries had laws in place that allowed for certain foods to be irradiated to help better preserve them. The world is beginning to realize this form of preservation as a viable option, and the only thing left is for the consumer and the government to decide whether or not this should be a commonly used method. Food irradiation has many variables that make it exactly what it is. There are different types of irradiation that work on different types of food, and accomplish different tasks such as sterilization, disease prevention, or even acting as an insect repellent. Electron beam radiation is the shortest in terms of time needed to irradiate the food, but it also does not penetrate very deep, only about half a centimeter. American culture is notorious for having a view of self that promotes a type of aggrandizement, one that goes beyond patriotism, by causing a large portion of the unsuspecting masses to (Jim Jones) drink the punch. • 41. Why Did the Discoveries of the Renaissance Make Little... Why did the discoveries of the Renaissance make little practical difference to medical treatment between c1500 c1700? During the renaissance there were 3 significant figures, who were Andreas Vesalius who was famous for his knowledge in anatomy, Ambroise Paré who was famous for his advances in surgery, and William Harvey who was famous for working out how the body worked (physiology). These three made extremely big and definitely important discoveries, but for different reasons never really at the time came about to have an importance. Andreas Vesalius published a book entitled The Fabric of the Human Body which was published around the time that printing first came about. His specialism was anatomy, and in the book that he ... William Harvey published the book called An Anatomical Account of the Motion of the Heart and Blood in Animals which was officially published a fair time after the other two s books. He proved that the heart acts as a pump by recirculating the blood, and showed that the blood flows around the body and is carried away by the arteries and is carried back into the heart by the veins. This had a limited impact because likewise to Vesalius, it did not make anyone healthier at the time, and it made more of a long term impact on medicine. He had not found a way to practically cure people because he had just made a book to further people s knowledge on how the body works. Although his book is very useful for us nowadays, at the time people would not know how to approach it, and really wouldn t make much of an impact on the people s health. In conclusion, the main reason that I believe is the answer to not having much of a change in the Renaissance is the people s attitude to change. For example, even though they knew deep down that something wasn t working, they would still go ahead and use it because of the fact that it was what they were used to. The great discoveries that were made by Vesalius, Paré and Harvey did not improve people s health day to day, but instead made a serious impact in the general history of medicine. They showed that the only persons attitude that was going to change was those of the rich and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Essay on Toyota s Supply Chain Q A Problem In January 2010, some of the Toyota, Lexus and Pontiac vehicles were recalled because of problems about defective accelerator pedals made from CTS Corporation, a leading automotive supplier in North America, Europe, and Asia. The problems are related to the friction inside the moving part of the units that controls the pedal to return as soon as the pressure on the pedal is released. • 44. The Interpretation Of A Human Edmund Carnevale Mister Lister English Survey of British Literature 30 October 2016 The Interpretation of a Human How do a creature s actions portray them as human or monstrous? In what way do those who are not human act or look and if not human, then what are they? In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, it is observed that humans are characterized by showing compassion towards others and having character flaws, but Victor s creature s grotesque physical appearance causes society to abandon him. Humans will always have flaws and make mistakes, and this makes them human, but also shows one of the weaknesses that humans have. When Victor has destroyed the second creature in spite of his first creation, the malevolent creature shows up and foreshadows that something bad will happen on Victor s wedding night. This leads Victor to narrate, The prospect did not move me to fear; yet when I thought of my beloved Elizabeth, of her tears and endless sorrow, when she should find her lover so barbarously snatched from her (Shelly 156). Victor thinks about himself and is blind to the notion that his wife might possibly die. This proves that Victor s display of self centeredness is a trait that makes him human. After Victor had discovered that his creation had been the real murderer of his relative, William, he is shocked to find out that his cousin Justine Moritz had been accused and he says, My tale was not one to announce publicly; its astounding horror would be looked upon as madness ...
