MOTIVATION:
Motivation is derived from the word 'motive', which denotes a person's
needs, desires, wants, or urges.
Motivation can be defined as the process of activating,
maintaining,directing behaviour,willingness to high levels of effort that
stimulate desire and energy in people towards goal.
“Where there is a will there is a way”, is an old saying that motivates and
inspires us to work and stay committed to our lifetime goals.
All of us need some motivation and inspiration at some point if time.
Motivation is the process which initiates, guides, and maintains goal-
oriented behaviors of an individual or a group of people.
TYPES OF MOTIVATION:
Motivation are
of two types:
1. Intrinsic
Motivation
2. Extrinsic
Motivation
1.Intrinsic Motivation:
Intrinsic motivation is related to the job one is
doing.when a worker has performed a good job ,he
gets a sense of self satisfaction, which motivates
himself internally.
2.Extrinsic motivation:
Extrinsic motivation occurs when an individual is driven by
external influences. These can be either rewarding (money,
good grades, fame, etc.) or punishing (threat of punishment,
pain, etc.).
The distinction between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation lies
within the driving force behind the action.
Extrinsic Motivation comes from influences outside of the
individual.
Types of external motivation
• Positive motivation: the worker must be motivated
by way of showing rewards for his works, financial
or non financial in their nature.
• Negative motivation:is based on fear and force.it
warrants punishments for the mistakes of the
workers of stopping the increments of workers, and
cutting the wages in proportion to their bad work,
they are threatened with demotion,etc.
DEMOTIVATION:
The condition of being without motivation is called
DEMOTIVATION
The Main Demotivating Factors are:
1. FEAR
2. SETTING WRONG GOALS
3. NOT KNOWING WHAT TO DO NEXT
4. LONELINESS
5. GRIEF
6. LACK OF CLARITY
7. LACK OF CHALLANGE
8. LACK OF SELF DETREMINATION
9. VALUES - CONFLICTS
10.BURN OUT
11.SELF DOUBT
12.POOR TIME MANAGEMENT
TO OVERCOME DEMOTIVATION
4. Work your imagination
There are times when we become caught up in negativity, so much so, that
positivity feels distant. So, we can use our imagination to reconnect with this sense
of positivity.Imagine your happy place and focus on creating a relaxing scenario
that will help the restlessness just melt away. Visualize a happy place and use your
imagination to spend some time in a comfortable situation that will help you feel
more motivated.
5. Practice self-care
Sometimes, the lack of motivation and restlessness come because we are not
feeling well. Check to make sure you have eaten or grab a snack. Drink enough.
Take a nap or lie down, if possible. Move your body.
Do something that helps you feel better, even if it’s just writing for a few minutes,
having a favorite snack, or lighting a scented candle. Check with your body and
see what you most need at the moment.
6. Set an end time
Work and chores tend to occupy as much time as we give them. If you have a
whole day to finish a task, it might take you a whole day. If you have two hours, you
will finish in those two hours.
A good tip to reduce restlessness is to set a deadline that will push you to start
acting now. It will help you get into action right away. It is important, however, to
respect the deadline you set for yourself and stop working when you said you
would.
Theories of motivation
• The motivations are differ from time to time, place to
place, situation to situation and person to person.same
set of factors motivate some persons but not all; the
same set of factors may not motivate the same persons
at different times.so it is very difficult to give a specific
theory which will be Universally accepted.there are
some motivation theories are:1.maslow's need
hierarchy theory of motivation,
• 2.alderfer's erg theory of motivation,
• 3.douglous mc Gregore theory of motivation.
Maslow's need hierarchy theory
of motivation
• According to this theory there are certain
predetermined needs of the employees which they
expect to satisfied by joining in any organisation.
•Observations:
• 1.man is a wanting animal,
• 2.a satisfied need is no more motivator,
• 3.needs have hierarchy of importance.
