A Rainbow Comes After The Storm Short Story
A Rainbow Comes After the Storm
Newaygo, Michigan, a small, little, suburban town north of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Their tubing and
rafting was a hotspot for families to spend quality time together. I was part of one of them. I was filled
with excitement. While we were waiting in line, we were cracking jokes and having a good time.
Group number 43, head your way to the pink bus! the announcer called. My family of 7 got onto the
bus. It was my uncle, my aunt, my 6 year old cousin, Avi, My 11 year old cousin, Preet, my parents
and me. We were on the bus, in this strange tiny town. We drove down the dirt road, down to the
forest. I found this quite sketchy, but the only thing that was in my head was jumping into the cold,
crisp, and clear water as I imagined. Then, the bus began to shake as the bus driver announced through
the radio, Don t be frightened, we are almost there! Just a few more of these sharp turns and you ll be
on your tubes down the refreshing water. Just remember to get off at the bridge, or you ll be in deep
trouble.
The bridge, the bridge, the bridge. I kept on repeating that in my head so I would not forget. Suddenly,
everyone started clapping. It was finally time to get off. Preet and I rushed to get the tubes for
everyone in our family, and some twine to attach it. We were filled with excitement. Time flew by, and
we were finally on the dock. We got our tubes tied up, and went into the water. The sun was shining
through the dancing, tall, trees and everyone was smiling. Groups started to pass us by, to the point we
were isolated. We couldn t see anyone else in the vast river. There was no possible way to get of
neither. The land was all slanted, so you would have to climb, along with that it was all private
property. I was slightly worried about this.
Mommy, is that a sea monster? My cousin, Avi questioned. Then all of a sudden there was a BOOM!
A tree log stuck us. This tree log was gigantic; it looked like it weighed a million pounds. It was so big
that we couldn t get around it. We couldn t use it to hold onto as it was all mushy and wet. I thought to
myself, should I go under the log, but it s way too low, I would drown. We are going to be stuck here
forever. We have nothing

The Contribution of Patient Case Studies on our...
Although it shares cognitive neuroscience s roots, cognitive neuropsychology has developed into a
discrete discipline. While cognitive neuroscience studies neural organisation of the brain, cognitive
neuropsychology concerns itself with the brain s functional architecture; Coltheart (2010) describes
this as a distinction between brain and mind. According to, among others, Coltheart (2002, cited
Coltheart, 2010) this makes cognitive neuropsychology a branch of cognitive psychology rather than
neuroscience.
Patient case studies have played a critical role in developing cognitive neuropsychology into a
separate discipline, although data from case studies can support and even progress cognitive
neuroscientific findings about neural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initially patients with brain damage were studied with the aim of understanding and treating their
disorder. This was the case for Phineas Gage, who developed behavioural changes after a tamping iron
passed through his brain in 1848 (Harlow, 1868, cited Jansari, 2010). However, progress in the field of
cognitive psychology has enabled the development of complex theoretical models of cognitive
function and improved research techniques. Advances in technology have given researchers the tools
to view damaged brains before death and compare them to normally functioning, intact brains. As a
result, a more challenging aim of cognitive neuropsychology has emerged: understanding and
explaining normal cognitive processes. This is achieved by studying a deficit in cognitive function in a
brain damaged patient and making inferences about intact cognition. For example, Shallice and
Warrington s (1970, cited Hitch, 2010) investigation of patient KF with acquired brain damage
showed that he had an impaired auditory digit span but normal intelligence and performance in long
term learning and memory and understanding spoken language. This supported a dissociation between
short term memory and long term memory initially proposed by Atkinson and Shiffrin (1971, cited
Hitch, 2010). Thus a model of the intact memory system is developed or supported, which in turn
explains memory deficits in patients with brain damage. Coltheart (2010) lists nine areas of cognitive
processing, identified

The Sherlock Holmes By Dr. James Watson
One of the things that make the Sherlock Holmes books distinctive is their point of view. The books
are written as an account Sherlock Holmes case, written by Dr. James Watson, chronicling the
achievements of the detective. This book, in particular, is unique in its point of view. The first few
chapters are told in past tense, as Watson recalls the events; the next few chapters are present tense, in
the form of extracts from Watson s diary or letters sent to Holmes from the hall; the last few chapters
shift back to past tense recollections. Having Watson tell the tale instead of Holmes was a compelling
choice. Holmes, with his straightforward logical mind, would have been unable to provide the imagery
that Watson did. Watson, who has more of an artistic flair, was able to beautifully describe the
disturbing way the fog rolled on the moor, or how the Hall at night was desolate and gloomy. Holmes
would have only given a bare boned factual account of events; none of the dramatic scenes emotional
description gifted by Watson. Furthermore, having Watson tell the tale makes Holmes methods seem
more enigmatic as the perspective is not from inside Holmes head. Having this veil of mystery around
the techniques Holmes uses makes him seem more impressive and worthy of the reader s respect.
Watson s perspective also enabled the reader to discover clues and unravel the case along with him.
Watson began the case and went to Dartmoor without any idea of who caused Sir Charles death,

Essay On Editing Drafting And Persuasion
The use of editing, drafting, and persuasion are all beneficial in the use of writing, but they also
impact society by way of helping audience understanding. Drafting is the beginning, it s the
opportunity to discover what you have to say and how best to say it (Murray). Editing is a way of
correcting a piece over time to make writing less blocked so words will come more easily (Elbow).
Persuasion is the reason to make a speech or publish a document a document such as the Constitution
achieving what the author wants to say (Aristotle). The Constitution had a positive impact, written by
James Madison and a group of others who took the time to draft, edit, and eventually persuade
Congress to publish the document to the United States. Drafting can be a long antagonizing process,
but in the long run it ll pay off like it did for the Constitution. There needs to be a focus on drafting
including revising, editing, and reading (Murray) so that you re completely successful in eventually
finishing a piece. It took the authors of the Constitution 5 months, from May 1787 until the signing in
September 1787 (National Constitution Center) to achieve this. That shows that drafting can be a long
process, but because of the positive outcome to the United States, drafting was just the beginning part
of an impactful piece on society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The one that applies to the Constitution is putting the audience into a certain frame of mind. The
ratification of the Constitution gave the citizens of the United States a different mindset of things, such
as what was legal or not, and what were the rights of others. But none of that would have mattered
without persuasion. Without it, the Constitution would not have been ratified the way it was, written
the way it was, or changed the U.S. the way it

The Failure Of The Bolshevik Revolution
establishing legitimacy, and caused mass desertion. Every day thousands of peasants abandoned the
war front, though some historians believe less. The May 11 Declaration of Soldier s Rights, and July
12 desertion death penalty were ineffective as well. The Government s war, built dissent and
disloyalty, which were key to the Revolution. The Government also failed to address issues of land
distribution and food shortages, and the people were unsatisfied by empty promises. This created a
platform for the revolutionary slogan: Peace, Land, and Bread . Inaction was blamed upon the absence
of a Constituent Assembly, and thus the Government appeared powerless. Kerensky also opted for non

Bolshevik political prominence was caused by the joining of peasants and the proletariat. Following
the fall of the Czar, a capitalist economic system easily exploited peasants, building a favorable view
of socialism; in 1917 30,000 landowners owned as much land as 10 million peasants combined,
spurring agrarian revolts. The ideology of peasants aligned with Bolshevism, which led to the
formation of Peasant Soviets, a sign of insurrection. Lenin emphasized only Soviets had power to
reclaim land at the expense of landowners, as landowners sided with Government bureaucracy. From
the Bolshevik perspective, the proletariat s cooperation was more significant. The February
reformation of trade unions and shrinking economy drove unions to form Soviets and committees.
Factory committees were prominent causes of the Revolution because they held the strongest political
power in the proletariat. Committees referred to the Bolsheviks as it mutually strengthened their
political power and would end the oppression of capitalism on the working class. Trotsky agreed: the
proletariat was victim to the Law of Uneven Development and held the right to rebel. Bolsheviks
emphasized to workers that the bourgeoisie had no roots in the masses, rendering them politically
weak. This caused ideology that the Revolution was politically

Essay On Mongol Empire
Mongol Empire by Genghis Khan founded in 1206 after the unification of Turk Mongol tribes and
then expanding to the Eurasian mainland, starting with the invasion of Western Xia in northern China

After 18 years of war, the Mongols have learned many things in the defeated population: how to shoot

Similarities Between Dubois And Alain Locke
Both W.E.B Dubois and Alain Locke have different views on the education that African American
should receive in order to succeed. The issue rises due to the fact that African American were
receiving poor education around the 1930 s. Dubois believed that segregated school was the first step
into African Americans receiving adequate education, while Locke believe that segregated school was
not to fix the educational crisis for African Americans.
On the articled Does the Negro Need separate schools , W.E. B Dubois states that Proper education of

The society as a whole is losing the ability to interact with and understand the people we come in
contact with every day. Nations such as Japan and China used to be extremely interdependent
communities (Gilovich et al., 2012), meaning that their societies were connected and citizens thought
collectively rather than independently; however, while still more interdependent that the United States,
the emergence of new devices, including the new iPhones, is causing a cultural shift in those societies
as well. The more a society avoids interaction and continues to find comfort in phones, the more
independent we become; this is turn is leading to a very isolated and cruelly individualistic society.

The Movie Departures From The Historical Record
Davis claims that her work is more historical than the movie because the film maker s departures from
the historical record. (Benson 57). That is, Vigne s work lacks from historical understanding because
he divires from the right direction due to several reasons including but not restricted to ignoring the
Basque region, neglecting religious issues, and disregarding complicity of Bertrande except in the last
invented scene when she gave water to judge, and she confessed to him. More importantly, the trial
would have been confidential not open to public. In addition, the movie characterized with the
complicity and vagueness, which made it hard to interpret. As reported by Davis, the film s main

Basically, the film is there to make money, so the producers have to make it accessible to as many
people as possible. Undoubtedly, the film producers make their finishing touch in order to make it
appeal to the audiences. They added some changes, such as using wrong color robes for the judges of
the Parlement of Toulouse as well as omitting vital information, which affects the original story by
intention or chance in make it an artistic touch rather than historical touch. It seems to me that Davis s
book is more historical than the movie because she provides a detailed description of the life of rural
families during that time, and the journey of Martin s family from the Basque region to the Artigat
because of political and economic reasons. She goes more and demonstrates the social circumstances
of the French peasantry in the sixteenth century. At any rate, Davis s account of both the trial and
village life in Artigat is more historically accurate than the movie. Davis brings the story to life as a
historical achievement. That is why Davis writes her book specifically to address the shortage in the
film and to follow the historical evidence closely. It is unquestionable that historians tend to be
skeptical about their sources; it is the nature of any historical work, when they address basic facts that
happened in the past. Obviously enough, in the most cases,

Ricardo Semler s Leadership Style
1. Describe Ricardo Semler s leadership style. What do you think the advantages and drawbacks of his
style might be?
Ricardo Semler s leadership style can be described as radical. This approach encourages followers to
share their ideas and apply their creativity and ingenuity to reach the company s goals. The employees
have the opportunity to offer suggestions to improve the company. Also, every employee establishes
their norms and their way of completing their job. They are free to choose their schedule, their level of
salary, and who will be their boss. This model gives the employee a positive feedback since they are
recognized for their good work and ideas.
Some of the advantages the radical leadership style has are:
The employees feel that they have greater responsibility and trust put on them, this can generate
greater participation, commitment and a better job performance.
Each employee is responsible for their own performance, creating self commitment.
There are no restrictions on resources or schedules that prevent them to carry out their work properly.
Subordinates are free to choose their schedule and their level of salary.
The employees have to assume the consequences of their actions.
The type of communication is open, there are no defined controls or pressures.
Each employee has the opportunity to vote in the election of the company s leadership and new
initiatives.
The obstacles that can be found can also be some of the advantages

The Dolphin Is A Breed Of Dolphin
Maui s dolphin is a breed of dolphin that is slowly heading toward extinction, as they are a very
endangered subspecies (1). On the North West coast of the North Island in New Zealand (between
Dargaville and New Plymouth) lays isolated areas, which is where the Maui dolphin can be found,
normally found in groups of approximately 1 to 5 dolphins within about 5 nautical miles of the shore.
(2). Maui s dolphin is the smallest breed of dolphins; they range in size from approximately 1.2 1.7m
and weigh roughly around 50kg (3)(4). Majority of the dolphin is coloured a light grey (back and
sides), whilst having a white brush of colour along the sides of its body. They have an identifiable
dorsal fin as it is more rounded compared to most dolphin fins that are sickle shaped (5)(6). They feed
on small fish such as squid, flatfish, and cod, therefore not making too big an impact on the food
chain. Over the recent years Maui dolphins have declined in numbers from approximately 150 in
2004, down to 55 Maui s Dolphin observed in 2012 (7)(8). According to A risk assessment of threats
to Maui s dolphins the subspecies is in population decline holding a survival rate of 84% and a
population decline rate of 2.8% per year, these statistics were taken between the years of 2001 and
2011 (9). If threats to the Maui s dolphin remain as they are it has been indicated that there is a 95.7%
chance that the population will decline, therefore leading it to extinction (10). This can be seen as a

showed a poor compliance to ankle taping. Callaghan (1997) reinforced this reflection in their

that taping may be awkward and uncomfortable to the subject rather than a brace. Nonetheless, both
Boyce et al (2005) and Capasso et al (1989) employed numerous evaluators to tape the subjects and

natural healing process were not controlled

Hot Lanes Case Study
Why HOT Lanes?
High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes have been a central part of the commuter strategy for Northern
Virginia since the late 1960s and early 1970s. Northern Virginia recognized the need to have dedicated
high occupancy vehicle to facilitate the large growth in the region s population. In 1969 the nation s
first HOV lanes opened up on I 395, initially bus only lanes in an attempt to encourage mass
transportation. In the early 1970 s the lanes sat empty most of the time, consequently the decision was
made to open the lanes for passenger vehicles with two or more people, the HOV lane as we know it
was operational.
In the Washington Metro area, there has been very little change how the area handles vehicular traffic.

Benefits
Primary beneficiaries of the Hot Lanes are the commuters. Secondary benefits include a large influx of
construction work, improved road conditions, $250 M worth of road infrastructure improvements not
financed by tax dollars among others. A majority of the Northern Virginia region benefits from the
HOT lanes in one form or another. The long term benefits of the program have yet to be realized as
this is an 85 year project.
Value of Time
The estimated value of time in the Washington DC Metro area is $17.67 per hour. With 45% of vehicle

Estimates vary one study from California reported that the individual value of time for a commute to
work is between 50 90 percent of the average wage rate . Local economic dynamics play a role in the
equation. A study on the HOT Lanes in Texas determined that Katy Freeway traveler s value of time
was approximately 42% of their equivalent hourly wage . It demonstrates the fact that the more one
values their time, the more likely they are to use the toll

Health And Illness Of Healthcare
Healthcare is provided by a number of different professionals to achieve the restoration of a balance
between all factors of a person s life when faced with disease, illness, injury, childbirth and surgery.
The main health care professionals that are required are doctors nurses, midwives and paramedical
personnel. This multidisciplinary team approach to health care brings a number of benefits to the
patient and many systems and processes are in place to achieve a high standard of patient outcomes.
Positive relationship between patients and the healthcare providers promotes patient centered care and
enhances outcomes. (Dwamena et al,.2012; Laine Davidoff, 1996).
Healthcare professionals build a strong network of providing healthcare driven programming,
leadership initiatives to address the ongoing challenges of providing better healthcare.
Health and illness lie on a continuum for all individuals from birth through to death. Humans are very
well organized but we rely heavily on all our systems integrating smoothly and without problems.
However when a person s internal balance changes with one system not functioning well then a flow
on of problems to other systems may occur with it including physically, psychologically and socially.
Over time other disciplines began to emerge especially as technologies expanded and it was
recognized that people often needed health services other than physical care in order to maintain
wellness.

Sodomy In The 19th Century

against their Puritan religion. They also believed that this was wrong because they felt that it was
important to have children and that it is essential to survival. In fact, the act of sodomy during this
time could have possibly been punished by death. According to Linas Alsenas, The colonists didn t

Comcast Universal Merger Case Study
Company and Situation
In December 2009, Comcast announced its intent to acquire a majority stake in the media
conglomerate NBC Universal from General Electric (GE). The planned acquisition was subject to
scrutiny from activists and government officials; their concerns primarily surrounded the potential
effects of the vertical integration that the acquisition could create, as Comcast is also heavily involved
in cable television and internet services in many media markets. The deal went through, resulting in
Comcast owning 51% of the company until March 2013, when GE divested its stake to give Comcast

Comcast CEO Brian L. Roberts described the deal as a perfect fit for the company, as Comcast would
be able to bolster its role as a creator and distributor of content, with a particular emphasis on
multiplatform anytime, anywhere media that American consumers are demanding ; increasing access
to NBC owned content through various platforms. The deal would also add Comcast s own cable

The Mummy For decades, several major Hollywood movies have tried to capture the essence of what
they imagine an archaeologist does and believes. Although not many have gotten it right there are
some movies that really capture the heart of an archaeologist. One excellent example is The Mummy
directed by Stephen Sommers. The main characters in The Mummy are Rick played Brendan Fraser
and Evelyn played Rachel Weisz. Evelyn works at Cairo s museum of Antiquities, and refers herself as
a librarian, though she seems to have much knowledge of the Egyptian antiquities. Fascinated, but
with little experience Evelyn seeks out to gain status and provide the museum with a great discovery.

Many of them just thought that if they dug deep enough, searched hard enough they might just get
lucky. Those people had no respect for the dead, even though native people near Hamunaptra try to
worn them if you don t leave by sunrise, you shall all die. The travelers just laughed it off and
continued their search destroying everything left and right. When this part of the movie was going on,
it reminded me of what we learned in our lecture about the Native American Graves Protection and
Repatriation Act. Although the movie took place in Egypt in 1925, and the laws were for people in the
US, I saw several similarities on the events that took place. Evelyn was incredibly careful with what
she did because she knew that the artifacts they found were of great value for the people of the dessert
that protected Hamunaptra, but that didn t stop Evelyn and her team from opening up the sarcophagus
and studying the mummy that was in it. Just like what happened to the native Americans,
archaeologist were prohibited to dig up native ancestors because of their families who felt like it was
disrespecting the dead and that is why they came up with the American Graves Protection and

Sixties Cultural Changes
The sixties were a period of extreme change. Inside homes, families began to become accustomed to
the new technology surrounding them, but outside a political war was taking over America. After a
decade of conformity, the sixties were the consequences, people began to rebel against the rules of
society. The sixties showed the shift towards individualism, civil rights, and feminism. After living
through this cultural shift from the fifties to the sixties, Brenda Meng shares her opinion on how these
concepts threatened society then, and how they continue to threaten society now. In her opinion, the
decade had been an important one, but after it passed society had changed for the worst. To understand
the cultural changes happening in the sixties, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This group was quickly recognized as the radical counterparts of NOW, focusing primarily on trying
to make the world a better place by completely burning the patriarchal society rigged against them.
One of the group s most popular forms of protest was bra burning, a symbol of their independence
from men. This form of symbolism was most popularly used at the Miss America Protest in 1968 in
Atlantic City. Women came from all over America to show their resentment of the beauty standards
put into place by beauty pageants. As women resisted being paraded around like cattle, they through

The Emperor s New Clothes, By Chris Argyris Essay
The article, Empowerment: The Emperor s New Clothes, by Chris Argyris, is provocative to
proponents of empowerment, and challenges many of the ideas espoused by our text. The article states
that, in order for empowerment to be successful, commitment to it must be internalized, which,
according to the author, is very difficult to achieve. Additionally, advocates of empowerment, i.e.
managers and change professionals, are often the main impediment to the successful implementation
of employee empowerment.
Both our text and the article describe basically the same process and problems, just with a different
emphasis. The book has a unicorn and rainbows approach where, if certain steps are taken, the end
result of empowerment will naturally occur. The article, on the other hand, focuses on the potential
problems associated with implementation and acts as a reality check. I think the issue of defining
external versus internal commitment is the biggest difference between the text and the article. External
commitment, where goals, tasks, and performance metrics are defined by management (Argyris, 1998)
equates to the traditional style of management in the text (Goetsch, 2016). Internal commitment,
where individuals and teams define goals, tasks, and performance metrics (Argyris, 1998) simply
comes along with empowerment in the text (Goetsch, 2016).
Empowerment, as described in the text, is simply a model. Models, like plans, rarely survive contact
with the enemy, or in this case, the

Compare And Contrast Evolution And Creationism
Evolutionism vs. Creationism
Group K Special Topics Assignment # 3
Evolution refers to descent with modification and how populations of organisms change overtime. The
idea was first popularized by Charles Darwin, but had been a theory before his time as well. In order
for evolution to take place, the mechanisms must make very slow changes to organisms that happen
over time. Most evolutionists believe that the earth was created over a long period of time and is about
5 billion years old. This enables many changes over slow periods of time to occur just as the theory of
evolution suggests. Through natural selection, adaptations are created that benefit the survival of a
species. These adaptations, which factor into natural selection, can only be achieved through
mutations that can be carried on to offspring. Scientists attempt to prove the theory of evolution
through fossil evidence, scientific records, and through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each individual has his or her own ideas and thoughts that may not correspond exactly to the main
ideas within evolution or creationism. Both creationism and evolutionism are present in many cultures
and religious affiliations. A very popular belief among modern individuals is that the ideas of both
evolution and creationism are where our origins arise. One of the more admired forms of this idea is
that god created the earth and life on earth from matter, but some higher power is also the mechanism
of evolution and that god intervenes in actions on earth by deciding the fate of certain species (god
creates mutations). This belief is known by most as theistic evolution. There are various other theories
present in both the religious and scientific community that try to connect the ideas of evolution with
biblical texts and ideas. The debate behind evolution vs. creationism is all about people trying to
figure out the origin of life and where everything came to

Unit 2 Development from conception to age 16 years

E1:Describe the development of children in a selected age range and in two areas of development.
Birth to three years, physical development and social and emotional development.
Throughout the first year of life, babies will undergo rapid social, emotional, physical, and cognitive
development. Motor control develops from the head, moves down through the arms and then to the
legs and feet. Initial movements are reflexive in nature, such as turning the head to the side when the
cheek is stroked, which aids in feeding. Babies will start to turn their heads from side to side when

Social and emotional
Albert Bandura s studies concluded that environment causes behaviour but that behaviour causes
environment, too. He referred to this idea as reciprocal determination, believing that an individual s
actions and the actions of the world around him are intertwined. As his work progressed, he further
stated that personality is an interaction of outside influences behaviour, and an individual s
psychological processes. Bandura s early research work focused primarily on observational learning
which is simply learning from observing the actions of others. He believed that once someone had
witnessed another s behaviour, they may be inclined to adopt this behaviour as their own, ultimately
building it into their personality profile. Parents who raise children in a caring, supportive
environment can certainly contribute to their children s abilities to develop good self esteem, enabling
the children to better deal with outside situations and influences that they are sure to encounter in their
life.

appearance. Phoenix Jackson s physical appearance represents the hard life that she has faced because
of her race and gender and also the perseverance and spirit that she has gained from her hard life. The
author describes her dress, shoelaces, wrinkles and, complexion to give us insight into the life of
Phoenix Jackson and both African Americans and women at the time. We learn that she is wearing a
long dress that reaches her toes along with an apron that is equally as long. Women at the time only
wore dresses, which made a lot of tasks more difficult. Jackson s dress, being particularly long,

Object Storage Systems Are Complex Systems
Data Indexing
Object storage systems are complex systems that require high speed data management system to
handle the vast amount of object attributes. In CADOS, we take advantage of PostgreSQL
(Stonebraker and Rowe, 1986) database to store the object and stripe information. Namespace
technique is widely used to prevent the name conflict of objects with the same name. Each object in
CADOS is accessed via well defined namespace paths. The object path column is represented via ltree
structure (ltree, 2015) in order to support hierarchical tree like structure in an efficient way. This
structure allows us to use regular expression like patterns in accessing the object attributes.

All the communication between the master web worker and slave web workers are made in a message
passing fashion. At (2), master web worker distributes the URL list of the data segments across the
slave web workers which are created in the loading event of the web page. onmessage is an event
handler that is called when the message is posted to the corresponding web worker. In onmessage
handler of the slave web workers, unique IDs with URLs are posted to the slave web worker, then
each slave web worker starts retrieving data segments from the cloud object storage, again, by means
of AJAX communication technique (3). As the slave web worker finishes the retrieval of the data
segment, it posts the data pointer and corresponding index to the master web worker (4). Index of the
data segment is used to locate the data segment on the main cache created by the master web worker.
Because the data is passed to the master web worker using pointers, there is no data copy overhead.
Once all the slave workers finish data retrieval operations, the master web worker writes out the cache
to the hard disk (5). The downside of this technique the total amount of retrieved data is limited by the
RAM capacity of the user, although we anticipate this feature to be introduced in the future as a part of
HTML standard with the introduction of the File API:

Notes from the Underground by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Fyodor Dostoyevsky (1821 1881) was a Russian novelist, journalist, and short story writer that
discussed the psychological state of the human soul in many of his works, one in particular is Notes
from the Underground; which was published in 1864. Notes from the Underground, had a great
influence in the 20th century; the novel takes a man s inability to communicate with society and uses
it to teach readers about the importance of other humans in our daily lives and how that affects the
way we think, live, and learn. Although the narrator has alienated himself from society, Dostoyevsky
uses his knowledge of diction, style, grammar, and many other literary devices to show the reader that
the narrator is lacking the knowledge to communicate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But never, never have I ceased to love that one, and even on the night I parted from him I loved him
perhaps more poignantly than ever. (Fyodor Dostoyevsky Page 87). This quote from the novel has
multiple uses of diction, Dostoyevsky uses vocabulary such as poignantly and extinguished to
describe his feelings in an intelligent manner and then the grammar of Dostoyevsky is a great way to
learn how to write because his words flow together like a river thus giving the character attitude and
passion for what he writes. The overall theme of Notes from the Underground is alienation; however
the novels theme is more complex than that. The novel gives readers an ethic to take into account
when they are feeling alienated. It takes all sides of alienation and establishes the cons of it, an
example of this is the way Underground Man deliberately arranges to be in a place where he is going
to meet the officer just to refuse to move aside, allowing himself

Aaron Burr Hamilton Research Paper
Before the vice president of the United States, the world known duel in history was between Aaron
Burr and Alexander Hamilton. Ellis tells us the most common story called The Duel which says that
Burr and Hamilton died but Burr survived for a while yet couldn t have a say in politics. In order to
fully assess or appreciate the actual importance and what happened after the duel, you must
understand their thought and also how they felt. Amid the time for the duel, Burr who was the Vice
President for Thomas Jefferson separated family line from the colossal Jonathan Edwards, and from
him, is the place he got his black eyes and dark hair. In the morning, Burr went out for the duel and

Hamilton looks nothing like Burr and is a child from a French Scottish home. He once disguised
himself in the war where he got the senior officer position. He was one of the important leaders of the
Federalist Party to the United States of America. During The Duel, Hamilton was 49 years old and his
party was severely declining after losing the presidential election to Thomas Jefferson. Ellis states
Hamilton s eagerness as kinetic energy increasingly expressing itself in bursts of conspicuous
brilliance . Even though Hamilton was not so good that morning, he decided not to really shoot on the
first try. According to his statement, he had no intentions of hurting Burr and hoped maybe Burr might
stop and think of peace before making the move. Burr and Hamilton joined the political stands around
6:00AM to 7:00AM. Since the duel was illegal, it was called an interview and it was called an
interview and it was made in a way that people did not recognize what it actually was. Since Hamilton
was the one being put in the ring, he had the chance to pick his weapons. He picked his brother in law
s pistol for the fight as this same pistol was used by his son who died. These pistols had hair trigger
and only needed just a little pressure to fire. Hamilton knew about this but of course, he did not inform

The Effects Of Deferred Imitation During The Sensorimotor...
Imitation and observational learning are important in aiding the attainment and portrayal of new
behaviours, beginning as early as infancy (Meltzoff, 1993, p. 467). Deferred imitation and mental
representations were concepts by developmental psychologist Jean Piaget in his theory of infant
cognitive development. Deferred imitation refers to a child s ability to imitate the actions that they
have seen others perform, following a delay, (Slater, Lewis, Anzures Lee, 2011). Piaget proposed that
the emergence of deferred imitation during the sensorimotor period, is a sign of mental representation,
(Jones Herbert, 2009, para. 14). His proposal of the formation of this ability has been accredited by
several studies that document the presence of deferred imitation in infants from as early as birth to 24
months of age and beyond (Barr, Dowden, Hayne, 1996; Heimann Meltzoff, 1996). A study by
Heimann and Schaller (1985) used infants between 14 21 days old, (p.33). The mother was told to
either protrude her tongue or open her mouth while the infant was engaged and observing during the
exposure sessions, (p. 33). Two observers scored each infant on the number of times they opened their
mouth or protruded their tongue, depending on the groups they were assigned to within the 60 second
response period, (p.33). The results showed that the total number of tongue protrusions or mouth
openings were highest when the behaviours were modelled to the infant, (p. 36). To reproduce the

  • 2. A Rainbow Comes After The Storm Short Story A Rainbow Comes After the Storm Newaygo, Michigan, a small, little, suburban town north of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Their tubing and rafting was a hotspot for families to spend quality time together. I was part of one of them. I was filled with excitement. While we were waiting in line, we were cracking jokes and having a good time. Group number 43, head your way to the pink bus! the announcer called. My family of 7 got onto the bus. It was my uncle, my aunt, my 6 year old cousin, Avi, My 11 year old cousin, Preet, my parents and me. We were on the bus, in this strange tiny town. We drove down the dirt road, down to the forest. I found this quite sketchy, but the only thing that was in my head was jumping into the cold, crisp, and clear water as I imagined. Then, the bus began to shake as the bus driver announced through the radio, Don t be frightened, we are almost there! Just a few more of these sharp turns and you ll be on your tubes down the refreshing water. Just remember to get off at the bridge, or you ll be in deep trouble. The bridge, the bridge, the bridge. I kept on repeating that in my head so I would not forget. Suddenly, everyone started clapping. It was finally time to get off. Preet and I rushed to get the tubes for everyone in our family, and some twine to attach it. We were filled with excitement. Time flew by, and we were finally on the dock. We got our tubes tied up, and went into the water. The sun was shining through the dancing, tall, trees and everyone was smiling. Groups started to pass us by, to the point we were isolated. We couldn t see anyone else in the vast river. There was no possible way to get of neither. The land was all slanted, so you would have to climb, along with that it was all private property. I was slightly worried about this. Mommy, is that a sea monster? My cousin, Avi questioned. Then all of a sudden there was a BOOM! A tree log stuck us. This tree log was gigantic; it looked like it weighed a million pounds. It was so big that we couldn t get around it. We couldn t use it to hold onto as it was all mushy and wet. I thought to myself, should I go under the log, but it s way too low, I would drown. We are going to be stuck here forever. We have nothing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Contribution of Patient Case Studies on our... Although it shares cognitive neuroscience s roots, cognitive neuropsychology has developed into a discrete discipline. While cognitive neuroscience studies neural organisation of the brain, cognitive neuropsychology concerns itself with the brain s functional architecture; Coltheart (2010) describes this as a distinction between brain and mind. According to, among others, Coltheart (2002, cited Coltheart, 2010) this makes cognitive neuropsychology a branch of cognitive psychology rather than neuroscience. Patient case studies have played a critical role in developing cognitive neuropsychology into a separate discipline, although data from case studies can support and even progress cognitive neuroscientific findings about neural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Initially patients with brain damage were studied with the aim of understanding and treating their disorder. This was the case for Phineas Gage, who developed behavioural changes after a tamping iron passed through his brain in 1848 (Harlow, 1868, cited Jansari, 2010). However, progress in the field of cognitive psychology has enabled the development of complex theoretical models of cognitive function and improved research techniques. Advances in technology have given researchers the tools to view damaged brains before death and compare them to normally functioning, intact brains. As a result, a more challenging aim of cognitive neuropsychology has emerged: understanding and explaining normal cognitive processes. This is achieved by studying a deficit in cognitive function in a brain damaged patient and making inferences about intact cognition. For example, Shallice and Warrington s (1970, cited Hitch, 2010) investigation of patient KF with acquired brain damage showed that he had an impaired auditory digit span but normal intelligence and performance in long term learning and memory and understanding spoken language. This supported a dissociation between short term memory and long term memory initially proposed by Atkinson and Shiffrin (1971, cited Hitch, 2010). Thus a model of the intact memory system is developed or supported, which in turn explains memory deficits in patients with brain damage. Coltheart (2010) lists nine areas of cognitive processing, identified ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Sherlock Holmes By Dr. James Watson One of the things that make the Sherlock Holmes books distinctive is their point of view. The books are written as an account Sherlock Holmes case, written by Dr. James Watson, chronicling the achievements of the detective. This book, in particular, is unique in its point of view. The first few chapters are told in past tense, as Watson recalls the events; the next few chapters are present tense, in the form of extracts from Watson s diary or letters sent to Holmes from the hall; the last few chapters shift back to past tense recollections. Having Watson tell the tale instead of Holmes was a compelling choice. Holmes, with his straightforward logical mind, would have been unable to provide the imagery that Watson did. Watson, who has more of an artistic flair, was able to beautifully describe the disturbing way the fog rolled on the moor, or how the Hall at night was desolate and gloomy. Holmes would have only given a bare boned factual account of events; none of the dramatic scenes emotional description gifted by Watson. Furthermore, having Watson tell the tale makes Holmes methods seem more enigmatic as the perspective is not from inside Holmes head. Having this veil of mystery around the techniques Holmes uses makes him seem more impressive and worthy of the reader s respect. Watson s perspective also enabled the reader to discover clues and unravel the case along with him. Watson began the case and went to Dartmoor without any idea of who caused Sir Charles death, ... • 5. Essay On Editing Drafting And Persuasion The use of editing, drafting, and persuasion are all beneficial in the use of writing, but they also impact society by way of helping audience understanding. Drafting is the beginning, it s the opportunity to discover what you have to say and how best to say it (Murray). Editing is a way of correcting a piece over time to make writing less blocked so words will come more easily (Elbow). Persuasion is the reason to make a speech or publish a document a document such as the Constitution achieving what the author wants to say (Aristotle). The Constitution had a positive impact, written by James Madison and a group of others who took the time to draft, edit, and eventually persuade Congress to publish the document to the United States. Drafting can be a long antagonizing process, but in the long run it ll pay off like it did for the Constitution. There needs to be a focus on drafting including revising, editing, and reading (Murray) so that you re completely successful in eventually finishing a piece. It took the authors of the Constitution 5 months, from May 1787 until the signing in September 1787 (National Constitution Center) to achieve this. That shows that drafting can be a long process, but because of the positive outcome to the United States, drafting was just the beginning part of an impactful piece on society. ... The ratification of the Constitution gave the citizens of the United States a different mindset of things, such as what was legal or not, and what were the rights of others. The May 11 Declaration of Soldier s Rights, and July 12 desertion death penalty were ineffective as well. The Government s war, built dissent and disloyalty, which were key to the Revolution. The Government also failed to address issues of land distribution and food shortages, and the people were unsatisfied by empty promises. Bolshevik political prominence was caused by the joining of peasants and the proletariat. Following the fall of the Czar, a capitalist economic system easily exploited peasants, building a favorable view of socialism; in 1917 30,000 landowners owned as much land as 10 million peasants combined, spurring agrarian revolts. The ideology of peasants aligned with Bolshevism, which led to the formation of Peasant Soviets, a sign of insurrection. Lenin emphasized only Soviets had power to reclaim land at the expense of landowners, as landowners sided with Government bureaucracy. From the Bolshevik perspective, the proletariat s cooperation was more significant. The February reformation of trade unions and shrinking economy drove unions to form Soviets and committees. Factory committees were prominent causes of the Revolution because they held the strongest political power in the proletariat. Committees referred to the Bolsheviks as it mutually strengthened their political power and would end the oppression of capitalism on the working class. Trotsky agreed: the proletariat was victim to the Law of Uneven Development and held the right to rebel. Bolsheviks emphasized to workers that the bourgeoisie had no roots in the masses, rendering them politically weak. This caused ideology that the Revolution was politically ... Nations such as Japan and China used to be extremely interdependent communities (Gilovich et al., 2012), meaning that their societies were connected and citizens thought collectively rather than independently; however, while still more interdependent that the United States, the emergence of new devices, including the new iPhones, is causing a cultural shift in those societies as well. It seems to me that Davis s book is more historical than the movie because she provides a detailed description of the life of rural families during that time, and the journey of Martin s family from the Basque region to the Artigat because of political and economic reasons. She goes more and demonstrates the social circumstances of the French peasantry in the sixteenth century. At any rate, Davis s account of both the trial and village life in Artigat is more historically accurate than the movie. Davis brings the story to life as a historical achievement. That is why Davis writes her book specifically to address the shortage in the film and to follow the historical evidence closely. On the North West coast of the North Island in New Zealand (between Dargaville and New Plymouth) lays isolated areas, which is where the Maui dolphin can be found, normally found in groups of approximately 1 to 5 dolphins within about 5 nautical miles of the shore. (2). Maui s dolphin is the smallest breed of dolphins; they range in size from approximately 1.2 1.7m and weigh roughly around 50kg (3)(4). Majority of the dolphin is coloured a light grey (back and sides), whilst having a white brush of colour along the sides of its body. They have an identifiable dorsal fin as it is more rounded compared to most dolphin fins that are sickle shaped (5)(6). They feed on small fish such as squid, flatfish, and cod, therefore not making too big an impact on the food chain. Over the recent years Maui dolphins have declined in numbers from approximately 150 in 2004, down to 55 Maui s Dolphin observed in 2012 (7)(8). According to A risk assessment of threats to Maui s dolphins the subspecies is in population decline holding a survival rate of 84% and a population decline rate of 2.8% per year, these statistics were taken between the years of 2001 and 2011 (9). If threats to the Maui s dolphin remain as they are it has been indicated that there is a 95.7% chance that the population will decline, therefore leading it to extinction (10). The authors determined that non adhesive tape must be exchanged every three days due to loss of compression, and also confirmed that adhesive tape could be left on for five days. In this study, the forces were measured by merging a sphygmomanometer with the ankle taping. However, such method did not reveal an exact measurement and thus it was criticized. Nonetheless, both Boyce et al (2005) and Capasso et al (1989) employed numerous evaluators to tape the subjects and collect the data. • 23. The Emperor s New Clothes, By Chris Argyris Essay The article, Empowerment: The Emperor s New Clothes, by Chris Argyris, is provocative to proponents of empowerment, and challenges many of the ideas espoused by our text. The article states that, in order for empowerment to be successful, commitment to it must be internalized, which, according to the author, is very difficult to achieve. Additionally, advocates of empowerment, i.e. managers and change professionals, are often the main impediment to the successful implementation of employee empowerment. Both our text and the article describe basically the same process and problems, just with a different emphasis. The book has a unicorn and rainbows approach where, if certain steps are taken, the end result of empowerment will naturally occur. The article, on the other hand, focuses on the potential problems associated with implementation and acts as a reality check. I think the issue of defining external versus internal commitment is the biggest difference between the text and the article. External commitment, where goals, tasks, and performance metrics are defined by management (Argyris, 1998) equates to the traditional style of management in the text (Goetsch, 2016). Internal commitment, where individuals and teams define goals, tasks, and performance metrics (Argyris, 1998) simply comes along with empowerment in the text (Goetsch, 2016). Empowerment, as described in the text, is simply a model. Models, like plans, rarely survive contact with the enemy, or in this case, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Compare And Contrast Evolution And Creationism Evolutionism vs. Creationism Group K Special Topics Assignment # 3 Evolution refers to descent with modification and how populations of organisms change overtime. The idea was first popularized by Charles Darwin, but had been a theory before his time as well. In order for evolution to take place, the mechanisms must make very slow changes to organisms that happen over time. Most evolutionists believe that the earth was created over a long period of time and is about 5 billion years old. This enables many changes over slow periods of time to occur just as the theory of evolution suggests. Through natural selection, adaptations are created that benefit the survival of a species. These adaptations, which factor into natural selection, can only be achieved through mutations that can be carried on to offspring. • 32. The Effects Of Deferred Imitation During The Sensorimotor... Imitation and observational learning are important in aiding the attainment and portrayal of new behaviours, beginning as early as infancy (Meltzoff, 1993, p. 467). Deferred imitation and mental representations were concepts by developmental psychologist Jean Piaget in his theory of infant cognitive development. Deferred imitation refers to a child s ability to imitate the actions that they have seen others perform, following a delay, (Slater, Lewis, Anzures Lee, 2011). Piaget proposed that the emergence of deferred imitation during the sensorimotor period, is a sign of mental representation, (Jones Herbert, 2009, para. 14). His proposal of the formation of this ability has been accredited by several studies that document the presence of deferred imitation in infants from as early as birth to 24 months of age and beyond (Barr, Dowden, Hayne, 1996; Heimann Meltzoff, 1996). A study by Heimann and Schaller (1985) used infants between 14 21 days old, (p.33). The mother was told to either protrude her tongue or open her mouth while the infant was engaged and observing during the exposure sessions, (p. 33). Two observers scored each infant on the number of times they opened their mouth or protruded their tongue, depending on the groups they were assigned to within the 60 second response period, (p.33). The results showed that the total number of tongue protrusions or mouth openings were highest when the behaviours were modelled to the infant, (p. 36). To reproduce the ...
