The Ideals and Philosophies of William Edward Burghardt Du...
William Edward Burghardt Du Bois was born on February 23, 1868, in Massachusetts where he
stayed to earn his Ph. D in History. Although growing up in the more tolerant North, Du Bois realized,
at an early age, skin color will always be an issue. His dedication and love of learning empowered him
with the feeling that through education it would one day be possible to breach the color line. His
position as a Harvard graduate and his love for education meant that he was able to travel throughout
the country to study exactly what the United States are even writing that he touched the very shadow
of slavery (Monteiro 2010). He gained invaluable knowledge and with this he began to teach what he
had learned. Immediately he began ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Second, develop an intellectualist black culture. By doing these two things, African Americans would
be able to slowly undo the scar of slavery that perforates American life. According to Du Bois,
capitalism is doomed to self destruction....communism....this is the only way of human life (Monteiro
2010). He applauds the fact that capitalism has brought jobs to the African American Southern
population; however, upon closer inspection, these jobs prevent their culture and influence from
spreading. A typical black Southern worker could expect to work longer hours and receive less pay
than their white counterparts. They were given the dirtier and more dangerous jobs as well. There was
almost no room for promotions and they lived with the constant fear of being fired. Simply put, the
rich, white elite have use capitalism create a new type of slavery: financial slavery which has been
failing the Blackman. After writing capitalists pay some workers enough to subsist on, but capitalists
also pay many more workers less than what they need for survival, (Rosenthal 2002) he determined
the African American community would need to create its own system of ethnic based communism.
Communism, for the African Americans in the United States, would be the answer to capitalism s
failures and it would allow blacks to start businesses and industries that would allow blacks to
advance themselves economically (Franceschi 2000). Du Bois did not argue for full scale

Epinephrine Research Paper
Epinephrine, also known as adrenaline, is secreted through the adrenal glands in the medulla, and is
responsible for the fight or flight response in humans. When injected into the body, epinephrine
attaches directly to the alpha 1 and beta 1 receptors. Alpha 1 receptors, also known as vasopressors,
are responsible for the constriction of the blood vessels. Beta 1 receptors are responsible for the
cardiac output of the heart as well as the increase in heart rate. Epinephrine has been used in advanced
cardiac life support for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) since 1896 (ACLS Algorithms, 2016).
Indications for the use of this drug are cardiac arrest, symptomatic bradycardia, normovolemic
hypotension, anaphylactic reactions, and severe

What Is The Significance Of Dragons In Western Culture

Eastern Legends, Folklore Mythology
Dragons have an incredibly long history...pun intended. Unlike in western
Mythology ancient Asian dragons aren t fire breathing, princess kidnapping,
terrorizing creatures that only the bravest of knights of the round table can slay.
Nor do they eat people or attack villages and castles. In western culture the
dragon represents evil and darkness. These dragons usually have sharp teeth
muscular bodies and strong legs. They bring suffering to humankind and are a
symbol of fear and strength.
Dragons in and throughout China, as well as most places in Asia are know as
the symbol of nobility, holiness, solemness, and good fortune. ... Show more content on

Eastern and Chinese
dragons are portrayed as auspicious Creatures with magical powers. They coex
ist in heaven with the gods and when Buddhists achieve transcendence they
ascend to heaven by ridding on the back of a dragon. These dragons are be
lieved by the people to be deities. They are wise, compassionate, and watch
over the people keeping them safe.
The presence of dragons within the Chinese culture dates back thousands of
years. There is a dragon statue that was dated back to the 5th millennium BC
from the yungshao period. Chinese dragons are strongly associated with water
and in popular belief they re believed to be the rulers of moving bodies of water
such as waterfalls, rivers or seas. In the traditional Chinese believes there are
four major dragon kings which represents the four major seas; the East sea cor
responding to the East China Sea, the south sea corresponding to the South
China Sea, The west sea corresponding to the Indian Ocean and beyond, and
The North Sea corresponding to lake Baikal. Because of this association with
the seas they are seen as being in charge of water related weather phe

Fan Communities Use Online Discussion Boards
Fan communities use online discussion boards to communicate with one another over the quality and
meaning of what is presented in the media. Captain America conversations stay around the Captain
America and Marvel subreddits, however their users vary; people come out as professors, marines,
artists, etc. This section will examine several pieces of fan testimony explaining their interpretation of
his character, as well as their responses to how his current media portrays him.
Knotsteve addresses the development of Captain America s character over the years his comics ran,
and their personal experience as a fan:
Cap may have originally been created as propaganda but ever since Jack and Stan thawed him out in
Avengers 4, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cap knows it s our job to oppose anyone who seeks to hurt the innocent and oppress the weak, be it
either a supervillain or a president elect. No member of the government, not even the president
himself, gets a pass just because they re an official.
Once again, the fans look at Captain America not as someone who works for the United States
government, but represents the people. While both can be reaching for the same goal, at the end of the
day, Cap will do what he must to protect and serve the American people, and fights for the American
Dream. For the people who do not follow Captain America in the comics, they have the films to rely
on to understand his story. Some fans only watch the movies for entertainment, while others look
beyond the action for a deeper meaning. Disputing the many fans who do not consider The Winter
Soldier to be a political thriller, Reddit user theothercoolfish characterizes the political undertones in
both the Captain America movies:
Civil War is, at its heart, a deeply political movie. The philosophical question of where morality and
ethics needs to be decided, who should hold that power, was asked, debated, and resoundingly
answered.
Winter Soldier looked at how America s government has been hijacked since Rogers was put to sleep.
Here s a patriot who has a hard time reconciling what his country is now doing...

Understanding By Design Analysis
In order to create validity teachers must make sure that we align our curriculum to the standards we
teach. So how do we align the curriculum? To start off, alignment means the interrelationship between
the standards, assessment, and instruction we teach. To achieve this, we need to follow the goal of
alignment. The goal is student understanding. As teachers, we need to make sure we make meaning of
life s big ideas and transfer those big ideas. To accomplish the alignment goal, Grant Wiggins and Jay
McTighe had designed an alignment tool that creates validity in the classroom. The alignment tool is
called Understanding by Design (UbD). UbD looks at the teacher s role as a coach for making
meaning of life s big ideas and transferring them. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each stage there are questions we should ask when creating validity are as follows: What do I want
them to understand? How do I know they understand? How will they come to understand? The first
stage is, What do I want them to understand? The main concept to focus on in the first stage is
Standards. To organize instructional units and plan appropriate classroom activities, teachers must
unpack the standards that is, determine the various components in a meaningful sequence of learning
steps (Guskey, 2005). The first step to unpack the standards was to look at the content standards and
find the big ideas. When I had to look at my content standards, I found it easy to locate. I used the
Pennsylvania Department of Education: Standards Aligned System (SAS) to locate them but because
Family and Consumer Sciences Standards are so board but yet limited, it became difficult. I was only
able to use part of the standards towards my unit. I had to pick and choose which standards will work
the best in my unit. Once I found the right standards, I would figure out the big idea, which in my case
was Meal Planning . The second step is to take my big idea and turn it into enduring understanding
statements, also known as adult speak . Enduring understanding statements should be something that
is important to know as an adult. For my enduring understanding, I decided to write: What I want
students to understand about Meal Planning is to effectively use meal management principles in
everyday life . The third step is to create essential questions. Essential question is also known as kid
speak . This is something that is important to know now as a student and should be relevant and
engaging. For my essential question, I decided to write: What goes into meal planning? This essential
question has many different aspects the students will need to know about the topic and can be used in
future lessons and activities. The final step to this stage is

Test Mistakes
I consider myself a poor test taker. This is not because of anxiety or not studying all of the material,
but because I find myself making wrong decisions on challenging tests. Decisions such as leaving a
question blank when short on time or second guessing myself to the wrong answer have resulted in me
scoring lower on a test. I recognize my testing mistakes and I have greatly improved over the years.
The problem with the tests that I have taken is that I was never taught how to effectively take exams. I
have taught myself how to take tests for the most part (aside from the basic skills such as skim through
the test packet when starting, and skip a question and come back to it later if it is difficult). Despite
not being a great test taker, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, my longer exams tend to be my worst exams. It is strenuous to sit down for an extended period
of time to devote all my energy and concentration on an exam. Another factor is the type of questions
used on the exam. The SAT is primarily multiple choices, and the calculus exam was composed
mostly of long problems. My better test was one that had a mixture of several question types and
covered the material in conceptual and applied ways. Lastly, all tests were challenging, but my
chemistry professor found the right balance of complexity in the problems. Overall, I believe that
many students struggle with school partially because of their testing experience. Learning the
curriculum and having good testing experiences has an effect on students becoming lifelong

Son Of Man View In The Gospel Of Mark
When studying the Son of Man view in the Gospel of Mark, the separate ideas presented related to this
terminology is interesting. Whereas readers find this term in several of the Gospel s the writer of Mark
favored this term when quoting Jesus (Wilcox, 2014). Subsequently, this term relates to three different
views of Jesus during and after his earthly ministry and also relates to like examples in Christian
literature (Harris, 2014). The first classification of the Son of Man terminology relates to a natural
man who teaches with authority and understanding. Additionally, the second classification as the Son

The Benefits Of Electronic Medical Records
Introduction The benefits of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) significantly outweigh the
disadvantages, when it comes to the nursing care of patients in multiple settings. There have been
multiple studies proving the enhancement and efficiency of nursing care in various areas, when
electronic documentation is properly taught and utilized. Likewise, there is evidence supporting the
reliability of the documentation, after comparing nurses verbal accounts of previously recorded
information. When the programs used in electronic documentation are continually evaluated for
completeness, accuracy, and quality, they become excellent tools for legislation. Electronic medical
records present many advantages to the nursing care of a vast majority of patients, and also help
uphold satisfactory legal and ethical implications of nursing documentation. Body (Review of
Literature) Bruylands, Paans, Hediger, Müller Staub (2013) provide evidence of electronic health
records improving the nursing process. The purpose of their study was to assess the effectiveness of
electronic nursing documentation, when it was and was not coupled with an instructive program. The
experiment sampled electronic nursing documentation over time, and ranked the groups in terms of
accurateness of the nursing process. It was shown that groups who were provided with continual
education had a substantially higher accuracy, when it came to using the nursing process. While all
groups benefited immensely from the

Since working in the Caregiver Support Program, my recommendation for implementing team huddles
was accepted. As a result, we have been able to anticipate, plan for, and address the program s needs
while being under staffed. We discuss topics such as the number of reassessments, review newly
implemented changes to ensure they are effective and feasible to maintain, and we restructured work
duties and both tackle those tasks that have been identified as teamwork tasks . These are tasks that
either staff member can address as our schedule allows while both being aware that the task needs to
be completed. While training as the Senior Social Worker for the Caregiver Support Program, I
learned the staff had consistently struggled with obtaining feedback from providers which is mandated
by the program s federal regulations. Utilizing my clinical skills, relationship building skills, and
feedback I began educating providers and requesting feedback within a specific timeframe. It is now
very rare that I am unable to obtain feedback from a treatment team member. I am now consistently
receiving feedback from treatment team members within a few hours to four days for feedback. As a
result, Veterans and Caregivers are receiving timely feedback while we adhere to federal regulations.
As the Activities Coordinator at Bering Omega Community Services (2007 2008), I used client
feedback when selecting and scheduling monthly activities and trips. Ultimately, attendance,
participation, and morale increased. I also used feedback provided by staff and volunteers when
organizing the annual volunteer banquet at Volunteer Baton Rouge (2006 2007). The number of
banquet attendees tripled as a result. I have also led a committee focused on restructuring the HBPC
interdisciplinary team meeting times to increase efficiency. As a result, each teamlet has set monthly

range from studio recording, radio, TV, movies, games, forensic audio and what we will be going
through in detail, live sound. Any form of live event, be it a rock band s concert, orchestral
performance, stage play or even live sports events will need some form of sound reinforcement. Sound
reinforcement consists of an arrangement of microphones, signal processing, mixing, amps and loud
speakers to reinforce the sound of an event, ensuring that all members of the audience have the best
auditory experience and can clearly and adequately hear all audio evolved in the event.

Queen Elizabeth I Essays
Queen Elizabeth I was by all rights England s most praised monarch. Her success in her reign, viewed
in later centuries, cannot adequately encompass all that she did or how she maintained her power. In
part, her endurance stems from the way in which she learned early in life to fight with forces that were
not physical, those of her mind, her intellect, and her own spirit. She used her intellect to create an
empire. Her education and early training of mind together with her basic understanding of humanity,
both of her own and that of her subjects, kept her at the helm for more than forty years. Analysis of her
writings, which include speeches, poems, letters, and documents to Parliament, will help readers

Queen Elizabeth I was actually born Elizabeth Tudor, the daughter of Henry VIII and his second wife
(after England s split from the Catholic Church), Anne Boleyn. She was crowned Queen of England
on January14, 1559 and reined for the next 44 years. She is remembered by such names as the Virgin
Queen and Good Queen Bess.
Her childhood was a rather tumultuous one, with her father paying very little or no attention to her.
Her governess had to write to him saying that Elizabeth needed some clothes because all of the ones
that she had were too small. Her mother was executed when she was 2 years old after being accused of
adultery, incest etc. After her father s death, the throne went to her Catholic half sister Mary. Mary s
policies of burning Protestants at the stake and an unsuccessful war with France, wherein she lost
Callais, the last of England s strongholds on the continent, made her less than popular.
When Elizabeth was sixteen rumors were spread she had plotted with Thomas Seymour to put him in
line for the throne. In addition, the rumor that she was having a love affair with him and was pregnant
with his child surfaced. These rumors called into question the value of honor and honesty of the young
Lady Elizabeth.
In this situation, Elizabeth shows one of her first examples of building her leadership image through
her writings. Elizabeth wrote a letter

Seneca Falls Convention And New York
Seneca Falls Convention The Seneca Falls Convention was the first woman s rights convention in the
United States. The assembly was organized by many women who were present in abolition and
temperance movements, and lasted for two days, July 19 20 on 1848 in Seneca Falls, New York. The
convention s main purpose was to bring attention to unequal treatment of women, and brought about
300 women, including around 40 men. The Seneca Falls Convention played a major role in women s
rights throughout the United States and is composed of important before, during, and aftermath
history. Eight years before the Seneca Falls Convention, in 1840, a World Anti Slavery Convention
was held in London. There, delegates had voted to not have women participate in the convention and
sit in a sectioned off area. At that time two of the Seneca Falls Convention organizers were present,
Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Lucretia Mott was a mid forties Quaker minister,
abolitionist, and feminist. Elizabeth Cady Stanton was young bride and abolitionist who admired
Mott, who soon became close friends. At some point during the convention, they spoke about the idea
of having a woman s rights convention. Eight years later, Stanton lived in Seneca Falls and Mott came
to visit her sister, Martha C. Wright, in a neighboring town Waterloo. While in a social visit on July
14, Luretia Mott, Elizabeth Stanton, Martha C. Wright, Jane Hunt, and Mary Ann McClintock

Summary Of Walker Percy sThe Loss Of The Creature
Progression 1 Close Reading Walker Percy s essay, The Loss of the Creature, points out a growing
problem with the state of humanity: People have lost their ability to evaluate worth on their own, in
what Percy refers to as their sovereignty. Percy delivers his message without most of the technical
jargon one would expect. In doing so, the problem he points out seems like something that is
accessible to the average person, rather than a concept that is far from our understanding. To begin his
inquiry of life and sovereignty, Percy argues why a person can t see the Grand Canyon for what it is.
Percy tells the story of a famous explorer, Garcia Lopez de Cardenas, who was astonished by his
discovery of what is now known as the Grand Canyon. Percy briefly describes The Grand Canyon,
and then he asks a question that might confuse readers at first. Percy asks, Does not one see the same
sight from the Bright Angel Lodge that Cárdenas saw (Percy 1)? The anticipated answer that most
readers would say is yes, but as one reads on, Percy argues otherwise. In following up on his question,
he attempts to make his point clear by assigning the label P to Cardenas Grand Canyon experience.
(Percy 1) He argues that when sharing the value of P with millions of sightseers, each person doesn t
receive the same experience of Cardenas, result in one millionth of its worth. By using values to
demonstrate worth, Percy says that experiences can be added to and taken from them. Next, Percy

For centuries, many political and civil rights activist have taken a stance against the growing racial
tensions that have persisted with in the United States. Even though the racial problems facing this
country today are not as transparent as in the past, the underlying prejudice still remains. For instance,
President Trump s campaign used disapproving religious and racial views to gain support which
subsequently escalated the already strained racial relations. Even though political elections are

Failure In Roman Architecture
The Romans were recognized and renowned for their engineering accomplishments, having pioneered
engineering materials and structures, some standing till date. Despite these achievements, they have
been accused of failing in aesthetics. I believe terming Roman architecture as failure aesthetically is
extreme due to their pragmatic nature and practical approach, evident from the aqueducts, the
amphitheatre and Roman temples.
The Romans constructed aqueducts to transport water from different sources into metropolitan areas.
According to Anderson (2012), the primary purpose of the aqueducts was to transport water from
valleys into town. The bridges and viaducts on aqueducts were necessary for aqueducts to support the
water flow, instead of architectural glories to be admired. Anderson felt the Pont du Gard was a mixed
piece of architecture from the Romans. They stayed organized by listing the soft yellow limestone

They built several amphitheatres mostly homogeneous, varying in size namely Pompeii, Arles and
Nîmes. According to Ulrich (2014), the materials used to build amphitheatres, concrete, or opus
reticulatum, was evidence that they were significant in the Roman Empire. Buildings made of
concrete in the Roman Empire were politically and ideologically motivated, establishing the
significance and prestige amphitheatres held. Experienced teams were sent out of central Italy to
construct amphitheatres outside the capital. A Roman hierarchical seating system designed for the
platform seating arena, or cavea, was incorporated into the amphitheatres. In terms of size and
extravagance, none could be compared to the majestic Flavian amphitheatre, more commonly known
as the Colosseum. The exterior design of the Colosseum was in Doric, Ionic and Corinthian order
surrounding the façade of the amphitheatre, a lavish stadium created by the Romans to showcase their
power, wealth and talents on the grandest

Much Ado About Nothing Feminist Analysis
One woman is fair, yet I am well; another is wise, yet I am well; another virtuous, yet I am well; but
till all graces be in one woman, one woman shall not come in my grace. This quote, spoken by
Benedick, completely describes the need for feminism, men wanting to customize their woman. The
Shakespeare play Much Ado About Nothing is an early work of feminism because, it showed how
women were held to a different sexual standard than men, that women were being told that they had to
submit themselves to men, and that men wanted something perfect, when perfection doesn t exist.

Beatrice states in front of Benedick that she would rather die a lonely man than have a weak man,
because she desires a strong man. It takes a while for them to both finally realize that it s not the
perfect partner that they need, but that it is the one that has always been right in front of them. It was
quite beautiful and comical when they figured out that it wasn t the perfect one that they needed, it
was the flawed one that complemented their personalities. It represented feminism because Benedick
realized that he didn t have to expect all these things out of his wife, that she was perfect just the way
she was and didn t need too change that. They both came to the realization that they are equals and
that neither of them needed to submit themselves to each other. I stand dishonored, that have gone

The American General Election Cycle
With the American general election cycle in full swing, one of the fundamental issues in play is the
role of government. What is the place of Government? What should elected officials be doing? Do
they simply protect personal liberties, or do they also establish safeguards and guidelines for various
economic activities? Ask any two people and you ll likely receive two different answers, so nuanced
and complex is the issue. Policy can give incentives to business to act a certain way both domestically
and abroad. Tax incentives in one region may cause a corporate to relocate (this happened to one of
my favorite guitar manufacturers recently, as they moved production from Canada to California!). A
central bank s tweak in monetary policy to shift the cost of lending could ultimately move interest
rates for consumers looking to take out mortgages or automobile loans. As we witnessed in 2008, the
housing market is of international concern and a large central bank wields enormous power. While we
like to call the Western economy a free market, there exists a multitude of government policies that
impact the freedoms and movements of the economy, for better or for worse. I will present two
specific examples of government economic intervention for your consideration, one that has helps
economic activity and another that hurts it. In the early 20th century, a heated Presidential race was

From the very start, reliance on delivery and a focus on more efficient, streamlined processes (often at
the sake of quality or customer satisfaction) were crucial aspects of the company s business model.
Because the shop itself was very small and had little room for sit down diners, Tom hired laid off
factory workers and offered them commission to drive and deliver pizzas to nearby towns. The early
focus on deliveries helped spread the brand quickly, and was a critical reason for Domino s quick
success as it allowed the shop to serve a greater volume of customers than other pizzerias that did not
have delivery service. Additionally, Tom would always look for ways to improve profits by
streamlining practices. For example, he would often drop items from the menu spontaneously if he
was shorthanded at the shop. Though this would often upset customers, he found that volume and
profits increased every time he did this, which led to Domino s focus on a simpler, more traditional
menu. As operations and popularity increased for the shop, its original owner decided to retain the

The Biological Effects Of Cellular Respiration On...
Introduction Cellular respiration is a complex but fundamental process of life. This process is vital to
all living organisms, whether they are autotrophs or heterotrophs, plants or animals. All biotic life
requires their food to be converted into energy to carry out their basic functions and processes. Cells
use oxygen to transform a simple sugar like glucose into energy, such as Adenosine Triphosphate
(ATP). Glucose is a carbohydrate, which acts as a reactant just like oxygen and water. The products
yield carbon dioxide, water and ATP, which is the opposite for photosynthesis. Cellular respiration can
be divided into three parts: glycolysis, citric acid cycle, and electron transport chain. Many pollutants
can disrupt this biological process and effect organisms and ecosystems. Dioxin is a very toxic
compound usually produced as a byproduct from industrial waste sometimes in the form of pesticides
or herbicide, which was used in Vietnam. TCDD is a commonly studied dioxin that is a mixture of
chemicals found in the environment. Studies have found that humans cannot metabolize this mixture,
which causes several different, harmful biological reactions. TCDD is a direct side product of burning
organic materials. It is also a persistent organic pollutant that inhibits the mitochondria from supplying
energy including ATP and NAD(P)H. This organelle is where cellular respiration is synthesized in
animals and humans. These toxins directly affect the electron chain, which will

The Pros And Cons Of Liberal Democracy
Since the dawn of human civilization, individuals have been constantly immersed in conflict with each
other. Whether these conflicts stemmed from socio economic inequalities, political disputes, property
rights, religious disagreements, or any other contentious matter, the creation of human governments
has necessarily been to handle, organize, and resolve conflicts between people within communities in
the least destructive manner possible. Governments act as a formal instrument through which
individuals in a society can agree upon shared rules, solve problems, and engage in cooperative
behavior, and it helps avoid the severe repercussions resulting from revolutionary social upheaval. The
purpose of government as spelled out in the Preamble of the Constitution is to establish justice, insure
domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the
blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity. While countless forms of government have sprung
up over the centuries, only one has been resilient enough and has had the pervasive influence
necessary to stand the test of time: democracy. While there are many different types of democracies,
this paper will focus on liberal democracy specifically. A liberal democracy is a form of representative
democracy that operates under the paradigm of classical liberalism. According to the Center for
Research on Globalization, liberal democracy is defined as:
a system of governance conditioned

How Does Daniel Chandler Use Semiotics In John Q
Signs can take many forms and how we interpret them can vary as well. The 2002 film, John Q, is a
complex story with many signs that convey a warning message. The film gives a warning and helps
the audience come to an understanding of how fundamentally flawed our medical system is. We will
use semiotics and dialogism to understand how the film John Q signifies the importance of a
comprehensive medical system in America.
Prior to looking at the plot of the film, we must first define semiotics and its components. In Daniel
Chandler s book, The Basics: Semiotics, he states that semiotics is the study of signs (Chandler 2007).
He continues to elaborate that semiotics involves the study of not only of what we refer to as signs in

Summary Of Monster By Walter Dean Myers
What are the odds of a sixteen year old being guilty of murder that they have no proof? In Monster by
Walter Dean Myers this is the most substantial problem, Steve Harmon, who is sixteen and James
King who is at the age twenty three are both being accused of the murder of a man named Alguinaldo
Nesbitt. The reason that Steve Harmon is being accused is because many witnesses are saying they
saw Harmon as wells as King at the store that was robbed and resulted in the murder of Mr. Nesbitt.
Witnesses and prisoners are telling what their truth is, during the trial or not. Clearly, truth is what one
believes is right. To begin with, Harmon s defense attorney Kathy O Brien clearly shows that the truth
is what one believes in. This is especially

Theme Of Mistakes In The Scarlet Letter And The Other Wes...
The Admittance of Mistakes in The Scarlet Letter and The Other Wes Moore
On May 17, 2017, a man named Arthur got into a fight with his boyfriend who later decided to press
charges. If he pleaded guilty during the first trial, Arthur would get three years of probation with a
criminal record, but he could keep his jobs. If he pleaded not guilty, he would receive 30 days in jail
before the second trial, but he would likely lose his jobs (Ralphling 1). While this is a terrible situation
for Arthur, it s difficult to feel the how his decision would affect all involved without a deeper
understanding of their points of view. Given equally difficult opportunities to admit their mistakes and
choices, the protagonists from The Scarlet Letter and The Other Wes Moore endured long periods of
internal conflict as they struggled to correct or accept the mistakes that were direct consequences of
their actions. The calculated use of diction and tone by both authors allowed the theme of these novels
to actually feel real compared to Arthur s case. The theme acceptance of mistakes is carefully crafted
in each novel through the strong usage of diction and tone.
The use of early American diction in The Scarlet Letter and urban slang in The Other Wes Moore help
to develop the emotional gravity of both books as they wrestle with the theme of acceptance of
mistakes. During a prison visit in The Other Wes Moore, the two boys named Wes discuss how
making mistakes can affect a person. The

William Shakespeare Fraud Essay
Was Shakespeare A Fraud? One of the most argued cases in history is whether or not William
Shakespeare was the one to write his own plays, or if he had someone else write them for him. There
are numerous amounts of arguments agreeing that Shakespeare wrote his plays, and then there are
numerous amounts disagreeing with his penmanship of his plays. According to some sources,
Shakespeare was an impractical choice to write such famous works of art due to his lack of traveling,
and his lack of education (Hechinge). These theories come into play when explaining that Shakespeare
was, indeed, a fraud. One of the most common pieces of evidence used to support that Shakespeare

The idea of Edward de Vere being the author was first proposed in 1920 by a man named J.T Looney,
and is still being argued to this day (Hechinge). Edward de Vere being the playwright came into idea
because of his social status. As he was a highly educated man, and had been trained as a lawyer he
made a perfect fit for plays that contained so much legal information and knowledge (Hechinge).
Multiple strange connections had been made between the writings of Hamlet and Edward de Vere. For
example, Vere had previously been captured by pirates in the English Channel and later was found
naked on Denmark s shore and in Hamlet, Hamlet describes himself as being naked on a kingdom s

Odysseus As An Epic Hero
Lance Armstrong once said, Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or even a
year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts
forever . This quote resembles that one of the most important qualities of a hero is persevering through
rugged obstacles. As the quote refers to time, Odysseus s journey took 20 years to accomplish and
throughout it he faced many trials, showing how great heroes are made up of those trials in life.
Throughout the Odyssey written by Homer, Odysseus journeys home to Ithaca and throughout the
journey, he gains qualities of an epic hero by facing and overcoming numerous challenges.
Odysseus shows he is an epic hero by persevering through his crews betrayal of him by the opening of
the sack of air from Aeolus. With home in sight and Odysseus sleeping, his men open the bag of wind
thinking that it contains gold and silver. The author explains, The bag of wind thus escapes and blows
the ship all the way back to Aeolus s island (Homer 10). Odysseus men betray him, by causing
Odysseus to navigate the crew all the way back to Ithaca again. Therefore, Odysseus men betray him
and go behind his back. He perseveres and sticks with them and starts the voyage again to return
home. He has to navigate to Ithaca all over again. Odysseus handles many major setbacks and huge
obstacles along his journey. For instance, when the laestrygonians hurl boulders at Odysseus ships

The Pros And Cons Of DC Comics And DC Comics
In 1934 a man named Malcolm Wheeler Nicholson created a comic book company named, Detective
Comics and shortly after this renamed the company to, DC comics DC comics when on to create
iconic characters like, Batman, Superman, The Flash, and many more which are still notable to this
day. Shortly after this in the in the Year 1939 a man named Martin Goodman started his own comic
book company as well. He named it, Marvel comics you may recognize the name from the name from
the multimillion dollar films they make based on Marvel s comic book. It has been nearly ninety years
since the both these comic book industries were founded and both companies have a multitude of, tv
shows, films, and video games based off of the stories and characters in their comics. Personally I
believe that both companies have had their fair share of both success and failure. But any time there is
two rivaling companies like these there will always be hardcore fans who say one is better than the
other. One of the biggest arguments throughout the comic book fan based community is to determine
which company between DC comics Marvel comics has the best tv shows, films, and video games.
There are some people who believe DC comics is the one with the best, tv shows, films, and videos
and there is those who would disagree and say Marvel is the supreme company. In this negotiation
essay I will discuss both the positives and the negatives, of boths side s, tv shows, films, and video
games.

Comparison Of Excellent Adventure, Memento, And The Birds
Bill and Ted s Excellent Adventure, Memento, and The Birds. These are just three examples of
upcoming reboots that intend to make a quick buck at the box office.
Nothing causes more drama among the movie community than the announcement of a reboot or
remake. I don t find remakes particularly exciting, especially if the reboot is of a franchise that doesn t
warrant it. But sometimes it s difficult to ignore a remake, especially if it concerns an old movie that I
particularly like.
One of my favourite films is RoboCop, so as you can imagine, I was furious when I learnt of the
proposed reboot. I knew it would be awful, and any hope I had for it being decent quickly faded once I
had cast my eye upon the rubber robo suit for the first time.

the remake, but I d rather Get my ass to Mars with Arnie in the 1990 version than sit through a
pointless remake that tries to ride the coattails of the superior first film.
Total Recall
Arnie didn t enjoy sitting through Total Recall 2012
Both RoboCop and Total Recall were remade around 20 years after their original releases. More
recently, the Spider Man series was rebooted in 2012. I still don t understand the decision to reboot it,
and what s more, The Amazing Spider Man was no better than the 2002 original.
I understand changing the cast, I wasn t a really a fan of Tobey Maguire; but I assumed it would have
been acceptable to make a fourth in the series, instead of retelling the story only five years after the
initial release of Sami Raimi s trilogy in 2007.
Other disappointing reboots and remakes include The Italian Job, Clash of the Titans, Godzilla, The
Invasion, Rollerball, Psycho, Terminator Genisys... The list goes

The Extinction of Pleistocene Mammals Essay
During the late Pleistocene, a mystery occurred in which large mammals went extinct in North
America while they survived in other parts of the world. Scientists studying the late Pleistocene
extinction provided a plethora of explanations, including overkill by humans, extraterrestrial events,
and climate changes (Faith and Surovell, 2009). However, there was no unified explanation that they
all agreed upon. Taking note of this, J. Tyler Faith and Todd A. Surovell conducted tests to discover
whether the extinction was a single event or a long term process. Their findings were important to
other scientists in the same field, as they served as a guideline for their explanations of catalysts of the
extinction.
Scientists in this field have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some scientists have attributed the extinction to an extraterrestrial event. In 2009, another group of
scientists found nanodiamonds in the sediment layer dating back to the Younger Dryas a period of
glacial dewarming. Because these nanodiamonds needed conditions similar to that of cosmic impacts
to form, they concluded that a large group of comets might have impacted the Earth, causing the
Pleistocene extinction (Kennett et. al, 2009). Although the research done on late Pleistocene
extinctions was extensive, the conclusions for these explanatory models contradicted one another.
Amid these conclusions, Faith and Surovell derived their question from the fact that one cannot
develop explanations for this phenomenon without knowing whether the extinction was a long term
process or a single event. They hypothesized that the extinction during the North American late
Pleistocene was a single event that occurred between 12,000 and 10,000 radiocarbon years B.P. (Faith
and Surovell, 2009).
In order to test their hypothesis, they created a statistical test. The statistical test used data of the
occurrences of the fossils of extinct Pleistocene mammals in layers of rock and terminal Pleistocene
radiocarbon dates for a given taxon, or taxon dates. These dates were all rated as reliable or of
intermediate reliability. They found a pattern in the data specific to North American Pleistocene
mammals: the last

  • 2. The Ideals and Philosophies of William Edward Burghardt Du... William Edward Burghardt Du Bois was born on February 23, 1868, in Massachusetts where he stayed to earn his Ph. D in History. Although growing up in the more tolerant North, Du Bois realized, at an early age, skin color will always be an issue. His dedication and love of learning empowered him with the feeling that through education it would one day be possible to breach the color line. His position as a Harvard graduate and his love for education meant that he was able to travel throughout the country to study exactly what the United States are even writing that he touched the very shadow of slavery (Monteiro 2010). He gained invaluable knowledge and with this he began to teach what he had learned. Immediately he began ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Second, develop an intellectualist black culture. By doing these two things, African Americans would be able to slowly undo the scar of slavery that perforates American life. According to Du Bois, capitalism is doomed to self destruction....communism....this is the only way of human life (Monteiro 2010). He applauds the fact that capitalism has brought jobs to the African American Southern population; however, upon closer inspection, these jobs prevent their culture and influence from spreading. A typical black Southern worker could expect to work longer hours and receive less pay than their white counterparts. They were given the dirtier and more dangerous jobs as well. There was almost no room for promotions and they lived with the constant fear of being fired. Simply put, the rich, white elite have use capitalism create a new type of slavery: financial slavery which has been failing the Blackman. After writing capitalists pay some workers enough to subsist on, but capitalists also pay many more workers less than what they need for survival, (Rosenthal 2002) he determined the African American community would need to create its own system of ethnic based communism. Communism, for the African Americans in the United States, would be the answer to capitalism s failures and it would allow blacks to start businesses and industries that would allow blacks to advance themselves economically (Franceschi 2000). When injected into the body, epinephrine attaches directly to the alpha 1 and beta 1 receptors. Alpha 1 receptors, also known as vasopressors, are responsible for the constriction of the blood vessels. Beta 1 receptors are responsible for the cardiac output of the heart as well as the increase in heart rate. Epinephrine has been used in advanced cardiac life support for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) since 1896 (ACLS Algorithms, 2016). • 4. What Is The Significance Of Dragons In Western Culture 丹丹 Weirong Schaeffer Asian cultural studies May 9th, 2018 Eastern Legends, Folklore Mythology Dragons have an incredibly long history...pun intended. Unlike in western Mythology ancient Asian dragons aren t fire breathing, princess kidnapping, terrorizing creatures that only the bravest of knights of the round table can slay. Nor do they eat people or attack villages and castles. In western culture the dragon represents evil and darkness. These dragons usually have sharp teeth muscular bodies and strong legs. They bring suffering to humankind and are a symbol of fear and strength. Captain America conversations stay around the Captain America and Marvel subreddits, however their users vary; people come out as professors, marines, artists, etc. This section will examine several pieces of fan testimony explaining their interpretation of his character, as well as their responses to how his current media portrays him. Knotsteve addresses the development of Captain America s character over the years his comics ran, and their personal experience as a fan: Cap may have originally been created as propaganda but ever since Jack and Stan thawed him out in Avengers 4, and the ... No member of the government, not even the president himself, gets a pass just because they re an official. Once again, the fans look at Captain America not as someone who works for the United States government, but represents the people. While both can be reaching for the same goal, at the end of the day, Cap will do what he must to protect and serve the American people, and fights for the American Dream. For the people who do not follow Captain America in the comics, they have the films to rely on to understand his story. Some fans only watch the movies for entertainment, while others look beyond the action for a deeper meaning. Disputing the many fans who do not consider The Winter Soldier to be a political thriller, Reddit user theothercoolfish characterizes the political undertones in both the Captain America movies: Civil War is, at its heart, a deeply political movie. The philosophical question of where morality and ethics needs to be decided, who should hold that power, was asked, debated, and resoundingly answered. • 7. Understanding By Design Analysis In order to create validity teachers must make sure that we align our curriculum to the standards we teach. So how do we align the curriculum? To start off, alignment means the interrelationship between the standards, assessment, and instruction we teach. To achieve this, we need to follow the goal of alignment. The goal is student understanding. As teachers, we need to make sure we make meaning of life s big ideas and transfer those big ideas. To accomplish the alignment goal, Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe had designed an alignment tool that creates validity in the classroom. The alignment tool is called Understanding by Design (UbD). UbD looks at the teacher s role as a coach for making meaning of life s big ideas and transferring them. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each stage there are questions we should ask when creating validity are as follows: What do I want them to understand? How do I know they understand? How will they come to understand? The first stage is, What do I want them to understand? The main concept to focus on in the first stage is Standards. To organize instructional units and plan appropriate classroom activities, teachers must unpack the standards that is, determine the various components in a meaningful sequence of learning steps (Guskey, 2005). The first step to unpack the standards was to look at the content standards and find the big ideas. When I had to look at my content standards, I found it easy to locate. I used the Pennsylvania Department of Education: Standards Aligned System (SAS) to locate them but because Family and Consumer Sciences Standards are so board but yet limited, it became difficult. I was only able to use part of the standards towards my unit. I had to pick and choose which standards will work the best in my unit. Once I found the right standards, I would figure out the big idea, which in my case was Meal Planning . The second step is to take my big idea and turn it into enduring understanding statements, also known as adult speak . Enduring understanding statements should be something that is important to know as an adult. For my enduring understanding, I decided to write: What I want students to understand about Meal Planning is to effectively use meal management principles in everyday life . The third step is to create essential questions. Essential question is also known as kid speak . This is something that is important to know now as a student and should be relevant and engaging. For my essential question, I decided to write: What goes into meal planning? This essential question has many different aspects the students will need to know about the topic and can be used in future lessons and activities. The final step to this stage is ... • 8. Test Mistakes I consider myself a poor test taker. This is not because of anxiety or not studying all of the material, but because I find myself making wrong decisions on challenging tests. Decisions such as leaving a question blank when short on time or second guessing myself to the wrong answer have resulted in me scoring lower on a test. I recognize my testing mistakes and I have greatly improved over the years. The problem with the tests that I have taken is that I was never taught how to effectively take exams. I have taught myself how to take tests for the most part (aside from the basic skills such as skim through the test packet when starting, and skip a question and come back to it later if it is difficult). My better test was one that had a mixture of several question types and covered the material in conceptual and applied ways. • 10. The Benefits Of Electronic Medical Records Introduction The benefits of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) significantly outweigh the disadvantages, when it comes to the nursing care of patients in multiple settings. There have been multiple studies proving the enhancement and efficiency of nursing care in various areas, when electronic documentation is properly taught and utilized. Likewise, there is evidence supporting the reliability of the documentation, after comparing nurses verbal accounts of previously recorded information. When the programs used in electronic documentation are continually evaluated for completeness, accuracy, and quality, they become excellent tools for legislation. Electronic medical records present many advantages to the nursing care of a vast majority of patients, and also help uphold satisfactory legal and ethical implications of nursing documentation. Body (Review of Literature) Bruylands, Paans, Hediger, Müller Staub (2013) provide evidence of electronic health records improving the nursing process. The purpose of their study was to assess the effectiveness of electronic nursing documentation, when it was and was not coupled with an instructive program. The experiment sampled electronic nursing documentation over time, and ranked the groups in terms of accurateness of the nursing process. It was shown that groups who were provided with continual education had a substantially higher accuracy, when it came to using the nursing process. While all groups benefited immensely from the ... When instructed to increase education about advance directives and end of life planning by leadership, I immediately approached this from a group perspective. Each page of the 5 page form was reviewed with every Veteran, questions were answered, and the Veteran s personal experience with end of life planning were discussed. These are tasks that either staff member can address as our schedule allows while both being aware that the task needs to be completed. While training as the Senior Social Worker for the Caregiver Support Program, I learned the staff had consistently struggled with obtaining feedback from providers which is mandated by the program s federal regulations. Utilizing my clinical skills, relationship building skills, and feedback I began educating providers and requesting feedback within a specific timeframe. It is now very rare that I am unable to obtain feedback from a treatment team member. I am now consistently receiving feedback from treatment team members within a few hours to four days for feedback. As a result, Veterans and Caregivers are receiving timely feedback while we adhere to federal regulations. As the Activities Coordinator at Bering Omega Community Services (2007 2008), I used client feedback when selecting and scheduling monthly activities and trips. Ultimately, attendance, participation, and morale increased. I also used feedback provided by staff and volunteers when organizing the annual volunteer banquet at Volunteer Baton Rouge (2006 2007). Her success in her reign, viewed in later centuries, cannot adequately encompass all that she did or how she maintained her power. She used her intellect to create an empire. She was crowned Queen of England on January14, 1559 and reined for the next 44 years. She is remembered by such names as the Virgin Queen and Good Queen Bess. Her childhood was a rather tumultuous one, with her father paying very little or no attention to her. Her governess had to write to him saying that Elizabeth needed some clothes because all of the ones that she had were too small. Her mother was executed when she was 2 years old after being accused of adultery, incest etc. After her father s death, the throne went to her Catholic half sister Mary. Mary s policies of burning Protestants at the stake and an unsuccessful war with France, wherein she lost Callais, the last of England s strongholds on the continent, made her less than popular. When Elizabeth was sixteen rumors were spread she had plotted with Thomas Seymour to put him in line for the throne. In addition, the rumor that she was having a love affair with him and was pregnant with his child surfaced. These rumors called into question the value of honor and honesty of the young Lady Elizabeth. In this situation, Elizabeth shows one of her first examples of building her leadership image through her writings. Elizabeth wrote a letter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Seneca Falls Convention And New York Seneca Falls Convention The Seneca Falls Convention was the first woman s rights convention in the United States. The assembly was organized by many women who were present in abolition and temperance movements, and lasted for two days, July 19 20 on 1848 in Seneca Falls, New York. The convention s main purpose was to bring attention to unequal treatment of women, and brought about 300 women, including around 40 men. The Seneca Falls Convention played a major role in women s rights throughout the United States and is composed of important before, during, and aftermath history. Eight years before the Seneca Falls Convention, in 1840, a World Anti Slavery Convention was held in London. There, delegates had voted to not have women participate in the convention and sit in a sectioned off area. At that time two of the Seneca Falls Convention organizers were present, Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Lucretia Mott was a mid forties Quaker minister, abolitionist, and feminist. Elizabeth Cady Stanton was young bride and abolitionist who admired Mott, who soon became close friends. At some point during the convention, they spoke about the idea of having a woman s rights convention. Eight years later, Stanton lived in Seneca Falls and Mott came to visit her sister, Martha C. • 16. Summary Of Walker Percy sThe Loss Of The Creature Progression 1 Close Reading Walker Percy s essay, The Loss of the Creature, points out a growing problem with the state of humanity: People have lost their ability to evaluate worth on their own, in what Percy refers to as their sovereignty. Percy delivers his message without most of the technical jargon one would expect. In doing so, the problem he points out seems like something that is accessible to the average person, rather than a concept that is far from our understanding. To begin his inquiry of life and sovereignty, Percy argues why a person can t see the Grand Canyon for what it is. Percy tells the story of a famous explorer, Garcia Lopez de Cardenas, who was astonished by his discovery of what is now known as the Grand Canyon. Percy briefly describes The Grand Canyon, and then he asks a question that might confuse readers at first. Percy asks, Does not one see the same sight from the Bright Angel Lodge that Cárdenas saw (Percy 1)? The anticipated answer that most readers would say is yes, but as one reads on, Percy argues otherwise. In following up on his question, he attempts to make his point clear by assigning the label P to Cardenas Grand Canyon experience. (Percy 1) He argues that when sharing the value of P with millions of sightseers, each person doesn t receive the same experience of Cardenas, result in one millionth of its worth. By using values to demonstrate worth, Percy says that experiences can be added to and taken from them. Next, Percy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Despite these achievements, they have been accused of failing in aesthetics. I believe terming Roman architecture as failure aesthetically is extreme due to their pragmatic nature and practical approach, evident from the aqueducts, the amphitheatre and Roman temples. The Romans constructed aqueducts to transport water from different sources into metropolitan areas. According to Anderson (2012), the primary purpose of the aqueducts was to transport water from valleys into town. The bridges and viaducts on aqueducts were necessary for aqueducts to support the water flow, instead of architectural glories to be admired. Much Ado About Nothing Feminist Analysis One woman is fair, yet I am well; another is wise, yet I am well; another virtuous, yet I am well; but till all graces be in one woman, one woman shall not come in my grace. This quote, spoken by Benedick, completely describes the need for feminism, men wanting to customize their woman. The Shakespeare play Much Ado About Nothing is an early work of feminism because, it showed how women were held to a different sexual standard than men, that women were being told that they had to submit themselves to men, and that men wanted something perfect, when perfection doesn t exist. It was quite beautiful and comical when they figured out that it wasn t the perfect one that they needed, it was the flawed one that complemented their personalities. It represented feminism because Benedick realized that he didn t have to expect all these things out of his wife, that she was perfect just the way she was and didn t need too change that. • 20. The American General Election Cycle With the American general election cycle in full swing, one of the fundamental issues in play is the role of government. What is the place of Government? What should elected officials be doing? Do they simply protect personal liberties, or do they also establish safeguards and guidelines for various economic activities? Ask any two people and you ll likely receive two different answers, so nuanced and complex is the issue. Policy can give incentives to business to act a certain way both domestically and abroad. Tax incentives in one region may cause a corporate to relocate (this happened to one of my favorite guitar manufacturers recently, as they moved production from Canada to California!). A central bank s tweak in monetary policy to shift the cost of lending could ultimately move interest rates for consumers looking to take out mortgages or automobile loans. As we witnessed in 2008, the housing market is of international concern and a large central bank wields enormous power. Because the shop itself was very small and had little room for sit down diners, Tom hired laid off factory workers and offered them commission to drive and deliver pizzas to nearby towns. The early focus on deliveries helped spread the brand quickly, and was a critical reason for Domino s quick success as it allowed the shop to serve a greater volume of customers than other pizzerias that did not have delivery service. Additionally, Tom would always look for ways to improve profits by streamlining practices. For example, he would often drop items from the menu spontaneously if he was shorthanded at the shop. • 23. The Biological Effects Of Cellular Respiration On... Introduction Cellular respiration is a complex but fundamental process of life. This process is vital to all living organisms, whether they are autotrophs or heterotrophs, plants or animals. All biotic life requires their food to be converted into energy to carry out their basic functions and processes. Cells use oxygen to transform a simple sugar like glucose into energy, such as Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP). Glucose is a carbohydrate, which acts as a reactant just like oxygen and water. The products yield carbon dioxide, water and ATP, which is the opposite for photosynthesis. Cellular respiration can be divided into three parts: glycolysis, citric acid cycle, and electron transport chain. Many pollutants can disrupt this biological process and effect organisms and ecosystems. Dioxin is a very toxic compound usually produced as a byproduct from industrial waste sometimes in the form of pesticides or herbicide, which was used in Vietnam. TCDD is a commonly studied dioxin that is a mixture of chemicals found in the environment. Studies have found that humans cannot metabolize this mixture, which causes several different, harmful biological reactions. TCDD is a direct side product of burning organic materials. It is also a persistent organic pollutant that inhibits the mitochondria from supplying energy including ATP and NAD(P)H. This organelle is where cellular respiration is synthesized in animals and humans. These toxins directly affect the electron chain, which will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Governments act as a formal instrument through which individuals in a society can agree upon shared rules, solve problems, and engage in cooperative behavior, and it helps avoid the severe repercussions resulting from revolutionary social upheaval. The purpose of government as spelled out in the Preamble of the Constitution is to establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity. Geraldine Mock is the first woman who achieved the solo flight around the world back in 1964, the trip started on 19/03/1965 from Columbus, Ohio, United State. The flight spent 29 days to travel more than 22000 miles, the chosen aircraft that she flew with is the brilliant Cessna 180, and she named it as the Spirit of Columbus (Charlie). The flight is conducted with a refit fuel tank to improve the endurance and range, the installation of two extra fuel tanks in place of passenger seats that added 180 gallons of extra fuel onboard, boosting the little Cessna s range to 3,500 miles. When it carried full fuel, the Cessna weighed nearly 900 pounds out of the envelope; however, the FAA allowed with a ferry permission, Geraldine was also a first female student of aeronautical engineering from Ohio State University. • 38. The Extinction of Pleistocene Mammals Essay During the late Pleistocene, a mystery occurred in which large mammals went extinct in North America while they survived in other parts of the world. Scientists studying the late Pleistocene extinction provided a plethora of explanations, including overkill by humans, extraterrestrial events, and climate changes (Faith and Surovell, 2009). However, there was no unified explanation that they all agreed upon. Taking note of this, J. Tyler Faith and Todd A. Surovell conducted tests to discover whether the extinction was a single event or a long term process. Their findings were important to other scientists in the same field, as they served as a guideline for their explanations of catalysts of the extinction. Scientists in this field have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some scientists have attributed the extinction to an extraterrestrial event. In 2009, another group of scientists found nanodiamonds in the sediment layer dating back to the Younger Dryas a period of glacial dewarming. Because these nanodiamonds needed conditions similar to that of cosmic impacts to form, they concluded that a large group of comets might have impacted the Earth, causing the Pleistocene extinction (Kennett et. al, 2009). Although the research done on late Pleistocene extinctions was extensive, the conclusions for these explanatory models contradicted one another. Amid these conclusions, Faith and Surovell derived their question from the fact that one cannot develop explanations for this phenomenon without knowing whether the extinction was a long term process or a single event. They hypothesized that the extinction during the North American late Pleistocene was a single event that occurred between 12,000 and 10,000 radiocarbon years B.P. (Faith and Surovell, 2009). In order to test their hypothesis, they created a statistical test. The statistical test used data of the occurrences of the fossils of extinct Pleistocene mammals in layers of rock and terminal Pleistocene radiocarbon dates for a given taxon, or taxon dates. These dates were all rated as reliable or of intermediate reliability. They found a pattern in the data specific to North American Pleistocene mammals: the last ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
