Daniel Story Erika Quotes
In the book Daniel Story, by Carol Matas, the character Erika is admirable because she is creative,
determined and above all she is brave. Erika is someone I would look up to. She goes through a lot,
she still survives the Nazi s, but dies from illness. Erika is creative because she makes her own music.
In Lodz she had her own violin and played her music in their apartment, untill the Nazi s took it away
from her. Another reason Erika is creative is because she came up with her own speech in Lodz. The
speech was very inspiring and even made Daniel, Erika s brother, and Rosa, Erika s best friend,
speechless. The speech read I m ashamed of you, too. Don t you see? This is the way Nazis think.
They believe that we Jews weren t good enough to

How Did Frederick Douglass Benefit From His Education
Throughout the works of Frederick Douglass there is a prominent contradiction referring to literacy.
At times, Douglass regrets his education as it makes his slavery more difficult to tolerate. Additionally,
his education opens them up to more abuse as Harriet Jacob asserts they were living in a culture of
silence (Cutter 209). Thorough examination of Frederick Douglass writing reveals various paradoxes
within his testimony regarding his literary education; while Douglass did benefit from his education in
some way, in many other ways, it shattered his spirit and lead to a lifetime of abuse.
Douglass narrative demonstrates how his literary education is both a blessing and a curse. He believed
that permitting slaves to read was a contradiction, a paradox if you will, unable to render freedom, or
provide them a legitimate education. Douglass reasoned that the education was a ploy to let African
Americans believe they were treated fairly. Douglass expresses, As I read and contemplated the
subject, behold! that very discontentment which Master Hugh had predicted would follow my learning
to read had already come, to torment and sting my soul to unutterable anguish (Douglass 1200).
Douglass displays the injustice and frustration of this situation; he is fully aware that he is being
treated unfairly.
For a short time, Douglass did consider his literacy a gift. This was the first opportunity that many
African Americans had to obtain an education. Having the ability to read

Merchandise management is one of the most important aspects ... Show more content on

The basic unit of analysis for making merchandise management decisions is the merchandise category
(Levy Weitz, 2009), these are groups of items and brands that consumers see as direct substitutes for
one another, and for example different brands of milk cheese make up the dairy category. These
categories can be managed either by category or by brand; both of these approaches have advantages
and disadvantages. The advantages of category management are that management can ensure that the
category containing the best combinations of vendors or brands and sizes.
Store layout with regard to merchandise has a direct impact on the positioning of the store. The retailer
needs to decide how much store space to allocate towards a specific product category and how much
space must be allocated towards isles and advertising space. This is especially important with regard
to seasonal products such as Easter Eggs or other Easter merchandise. The differences in the
placement of these seasonal items between the different Spar shops will be used to determine the
difference in sales of those items.
3.1 INVENTORY
Increasing inventory turnover is a cornerstone to improving the sales volume and therefore the net
revenue of the retailer. Inventory turnover is especially important for perishable goods such as fruit
and vegetables. This is because these types of merchandise quickly turn bad and get damaged after
being handled for too long or from being under the

Dietary Analysis of Sympatric Mammalian Carnivores in the...
Resource partitioning occurs amongst animals that share the same resources, such as food and space
(Shoener 1974), and allows for their coexistence (May 1973). The different utilization of spatial,
temporal, and trophic niches between sympatric species allows for their partitioning of resources
(Jácomo et al. 2004). Difference in body mass is one of the factors that contribute to the coexistence of
species in that different sized animals will generally eat different sized food items, therefore utilizing
different resources and reducing competition (Wilson 1975; Jácomo et al. 2004). In the case of
predatory carnivores, as predator body mass increases, the size of their prey increases (Gittleman
1985; Vézina 1985). Differences in body ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The diets of the remaining mesocarnivores are relatively similar in that they all primarily prey on
small to medium sized lagomorphs and rodents, with fishers having an affinity for porcupines. The
remainder of the mesocarnivore diet consists of reptiles, birds, carrion, and with the exception of
bobcats, fruit and insects (Cavallini et al. 2009). In this study, the diets of these carnivores in
Keweenaw County will be analyzed to determine prey partitioning through scat analyses and the use
of scent stations. Specifically, the hypotheses tested will be that black bears will consume primarily
plant material, gray wolves will feed primarily on large ungulates, and amongst the mesocarnivores,
predator body mass will correlate with prey size. In particular, the larger coyotes and bobcats will feed
primarily on medium sized mammalian prey, such as snowshoe hares and cottontail rabbits, and the
smaller red foxes, fishers, and American martens will feed primarily on smaller prey, such as voles,
mice, and squirrels, along with porcupines in the fisher diet. Methods Study Area The 1,400 square
kilometer study area is Keweenaw County, located in Michigan s northwestern Upper Peninsula,
which comprises the very northern tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula jutting into southern Lake Superior
(Binford 2006; Fig. 1). A range of low mountainsrun parallel to the western coast of Keweenaw
County and form five ridges with intervening stream

Screwtape Letters Themes
The Screwtape Letters is a novel that s written in an epistolary and satirical style. The novel is
comprised of letters that s written from the perspective of a senior demon named Screwtape to his
nephew, Wormwood, who is a less experienced demon. Screwtape is trying to mentor him through a
series of letters since Wormwood is trying to guide a human toward Our Father Below from the
Enemy . According to The New Yorker, For believers, the letters are theology in reverse, teaching the
love of God through the wiles of the Devil, but for all readers, regardless of belief, the letters frame
human experience as a familiar sequence of trials..... Justice Scalia, , also said that s a great book. It
really is, just as a study of human nature . Love is an important theme in The Screwtape Letters .
Screwtape fails to fully comprehend God s love for man, which he understands as real but irrational.
C.S. Lewis mentions that love is vital for human civilization but that we can t let love replace other
human qualities. In the story, Lewis put forth the idea through the protagonist in the story, Screwtape,
that human love is selfish and that divine love is faithful. Lewis implies that we shouldn t fully rely on
as well as love imperfect things. He says that he wants people to lessen their love with other emotions
and ethics such as respect and loyalty. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Anti Depressant For Seven Years
I have taken the anti depressant Paxil for seven years. This summer I began a gradual tapering off the
anti depressant medication. Each time that I have tried to quit taking paxil, I experience acute
dizziness. Doctors call this Anti Depressant Discontinuation Syndrome. I call it miserable. As I enter
my sixth week weaning off from the paxil, I m noticing more and more problems with dizziness,
vertigo, balance and nausea. It is compounded by heat, humidity and allergy issues. The last time I
missed several doses of paxil, I had an acute attack of dizziness, nausea, disorientation, hallucinations
and violent half awake dreams. The doctor diagnosed it as BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional
Vertigo). I was prescribed an anti histamine which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Any eye or head movement causes a violent chain reaction of dizziness, sensations of swimming
vision and mini tremors of shock waves of the brain. Needless to say this terrific dizziness sets off
waves of nausea as well. Even lying down, with eyes closed the swimming vision continues. Doctors
mention that many people mistake these withdrawal symptoms as a return of symptoms masked by the
Paxil or anti depressant. Many return to the medication to prevent the symptoms. Managing this
antidepressants discontinuation syndrome and concomitant dizziness and vertigo isn t easy. I have
read that it can take several months to a year to be rid of them. For more information on at home

Modern Society In The Time Machine By H. G. Wells
Usually, literature reflects the features of contemporary society. One of the reasons is that the writers
of the literature necessarily are influenced by the society they live in. In The Time Machine, the writer
H. G. Wells showed his own view on late Victorain societey. In that era, speed of changes in society
was fast and many modern society problems strated to arise according to development of technologies.
H. G. Wells were also aware of these problems. He especially focused on the class division problems
in The Time Machine and proposed future dystopia, rather than utopia. Wells showed how the problem
of class division would be worse than people imagine in the future in The Time Machine. In the 19th

In the early 19th century, the prospect of the future was usually related to utopia. Expectation of
human reason and confidence in science, which were influenced by civil revolution and industrial
revolution, made many people look forward to more advanced societies. However, as modern
problems including the gulf between rich and poor became serious, criticism against harmful effects of
industrialization started to arise. The emergence of literature about dystopia showed this criticism.
Similarly, time traveller in the book looked the future society as utopia. He said that the whole earth
had become a garden. (30). He also believed in a perfect conquest of Nature (32). However, as he
discovered the real aspect of future society, he admitted that his first theory that the future is utopia
was totally wrong. It is actually dystopia which is far different from what he expected. The time
traveller suggested that because of too perfect and secure environment, the human in upperworld had
dwindled in size, strength and intelligence (49). Elois are small and not strong as average adult.
Moreover, the language that Eloi use is simpler and often does not include abstract ideas. The human
race in Underworld, even worse, feed on the other human race. The time traveller stated this situation

Meanings Of A Word Gloria Naylor Analysis
Language is a powerful ensemble of instruments that all eject different tones. How instruments are
played, effect the tone that is given. The way language is used affects the feelings that are released.
The power of language has different uses: it can hurt or heal, it can destroy relationships or build new
ones, it can make a girl feel like nothing or make her feel as though she is on top of the world. No
matter what language is used for, it can make a huge impact, how language is used determines
whether the impact is positive or negative. In her essay The Meanings of a Word , Gloria Naylor s

chemical structures. The structure diversity depends on the part of the body ALP occurs (University of
California San Francisco Medical Center, 2009). ALP contains three metal ions, two Zinc and one

12 Essential Characteristics of an Entrepreneur
12 Essential Characteristics of an Entrepreneur
An entrepreneur is a businessperson who not only conceives and organizes ventures but also
frequently takes risks in doing so. Not all independent business people are true entrepreneurs, and not
all entrepreneurs are created equal. Different degrees or levels of entrepreneurial intensity and drive
depend upon how much independence one exhibits, the level of leadership and innovation they
demonstrate, how much responsibility they shoulder, and how creative they become in envisioning
and executing their business plans. The Five Levels of Entrepreneurial Development Brad Sugars, a

While it may seem counterintuitive to strike out in a different direction and into unfamiliar territory,
that trajectory puts one into a position of learning, being open minded, and relying upon others for
help. Those ingredients contribute to a recipe for entrepreneurial success because they force one to
evaluate the entire business system from a new and fresh perspective. And they set the stage for
working on the business without having to actually be physically in the business on a day to day basis.
That premise of designing a business that works for its owner rather than the owner working for it all
the time is vital for becoming a real entrepreneur versus becoming simply the most important
employee of one s own selfemployed venture. Those who understand that fact can rise to the next
level of entrepreneurship. Level Two: The Managerial Perspective Those with a managerial outlook
are often in a great position to succeed as entrepreneurs, expect for two big misconceptions that lead
to massive problems. Many managers believe that if a business is not working, the solution lies in
hiring more employees. They throw extra bodies at the problem, but this only aggravates the situation
because it fails to address the underlying root cause of the difficulty or lack of profitability. Another

Machiavellian Reformation Essay
Machiavellian Reformation and the Protestant Reformations differ based on the perspective the world
is being viewed from. The Machiavellian reformation comes from a want to secularize the world while
the Protestant Reformations are based on the belief that Christendom should take priority over the
temporal world.
Machiavelli believed that, All armed profits have conquered, and the unarmed ones have been
destroyed, ( Machiavelli 4). He viewed force in this instance as physical which shows that he does not
include Christ s force when discussing victory. In order to reach his goal of changing the readers
moral perspective, he refrained from including morality. Instead, he spoke through a secular lens.

Their actions do not outweigh their reasoning and beliefs. Their belief that, He lives only for others
not for himself, ( Luther 1) shows that, a ruler for instance, should refrain from acting justly in order
to secure power. Instead they should act for the sole reason of helping the people they rule over. The
whole excerpt is shaped around a persons belief in God. Instead of acting in order to be justified
people should work for the betterment of others. I greatly fear that at this day few or no...functions are

A main theme in Luther s writing is that he did not want people to act, With the object of gaining any

Machiavelli strives for a world where christendom has no influence while Luther strives to incorporate

thoughts are of the highest importance when making decisions and acting. These two

Ethical Issues In Freedom From Hunger And Thirst
Ethical Issues
Aside from the possible advantages, disadvantages and alternatives to the procedure, an owner, as well
as a veterinarian, must consider the ethical risks surrounding an invasive cosmetic surgery such as
debarking. The five freedoms are crucial in considering the welfare of an animal, and after exploring
the advantages and disadvantages to debarking, there can be a violation of some sort in every one of
these freedoms (11). The first freedom, Freedom from Hunger and Thirst, has a possibility of being
violated, as complications to the procedure can result in scarring of the larynx, ultimately obstructing
the ability for an animal to swallow their food/water. Freedom from Discomfort is definitely violated,
as not only is the dog ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Freedom from Pain, Injury and Disease ties into these first two freedoms, because as mentioned
above, the animal is going to be in pain from an invasive procedure, followed by an increased risk of
infection and disease due to the nature of the area being performed on. Animals have a tendency to
lick and/or eat anything that they deem as delicious or interesting, whether it is out of boredom,
hunger, or curiosity. Having any extra opportunities for bacteria or viruses from feces, other dogs, etc.
to enter the wound is increasing the risk of the animal succumbing to a disease, infection or virus that
they may not have contracted otherwise. The Freedom to Express Normal Behaviour is one of the
welfare concerns most obvious in the case of debarking, as the animal is no longer able to perform the
type of communication they use most frequently. While they are able to bark , they are not effectively
communicating in the way they intend to. This leads to the violation of the Freedom from Fear and
Distress, as not being able to communicate with their owner can lead to fear, distress and aggression in
pets (2). This freedom can be a difficult welfare concern to address, because if the surgery is not
performed and a pet is relinquished, this may also cause fear and distress if they are well accustomed

Burmese Days Analysis
Burmese Days was the book that took the history lecture and made it real life. To me, there is a big
difference between being told something happened and realizing that it happened. History gives you a
look back perspective. You have all the information so you are able to make an educated decision and
judge the people of the time for what they did. Burmese Days allowed for a glimpse into the time
period without that the rose covered glasses. We were in the middle of a British Colony and seeing
everything that it could entail. In Burma, much like the other colonies, the British have made
themselves the superior race. In Burmese Days Orwell showcases two native characters that have high
ranks vocationally one Burmese, U Po Kyin, and one Indian, Dr. Veraswami, but because of their race
are seen as inferior. Throughout the novel, these two have the goal of being elected a member of the
English club, where the British people spend most of their free time avoiding the natives and
pretending to be in England. The thing about either native being elected though, neither one of them
planned on being an active member of the club. In fact, they knew it would be more of a symbolic
membership.
This idea of a symbolic membership inside of a little British society inside of Burma seemed to
contradict the idea of the white man s burden that the British had been forcing down the world s throat
as the built their empire. It was their duty to help these savages and children of

A teacher s classroom duties and responsibilities vary. However, the key role of a teacher is to
maintain effective classroom management by creating a safe and supportive learning environment. To
avoid disorder in the classroom, teachers need to establish an environment where rules or procedures
guide students conduct. The absence of such classroom organisation creates an ineffective and
unsustainable teaching and learning environment. Therefore, an understanding of the different theories
of classroom management such as Goal Centered Theory, Cognitive Behavioural Theory and
Assertive Discipline equips teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to offer students the best
chance to succeed at school. A teacher s beliefs, attitudes and values help inform the best approach;
therefore, an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the three aforementioned theories will be
conducted, in addition to a concluding summary detailing the similarities and differences.
Firstly, Goal Centered Theory [GCT] is a classroom management approach developed by Rudolf
Dreikurs. Dreikurs founded GCT on the psychoeducational philosophies of Alfred Adler s Individual
Psychology Theory (Wright, 1957). The key principles of GCT advise that students behaviour is goal
directed, purposeful and aimed at attaining social approval (Dreikurs, Grunwald Pepper, 1998; Lyons,
Ford Slee, 2014). This instinctive need to belong is reflected in

The Republic Of The Philippines
Introduction
The Philippines, officially known as the Republic of the Philippines, is a sovereign island that
comprises an archipelago of 7,107 islands located off Southeast Asia, between the Philippine Sea on
the east and the South China Sea on the west. The islands are categorized broadly under three major
islands which are Luzon in the north, the Visayan Islands in the center, and Mindanao in the south.
The Philippines total area is approximately 300,000 sq km, which includes approximately 298,000 sq
km of land. The country has no land boundaries. The capital of the Philippines is Manila and the
country s most populous city is Quezon City, both part of Metro Manila. The archipelago, a Spanish
colony during the 16th century and ceded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many inherent structural similarities between the United States and the Philippine
governments. The Philippine government is divided into three branches the Legislative, Executive,
and Judicial branches. The Philippine Congress is also bicameral it is made up of the Senate and the
House of Representatives. The chief of the Executive branch in the Philippines is the President. The
Presidents of the Philippines and the United States have similar powers: commander in chief of the
military, the ability to enter into treaties with the concurrence of two thirds of the Senate, and the
power to appoint ambassadors, public ministers and consuls. Several amendments in the Philippine
Constitution were incorporated from the Constitution of the United States. Corruption and cronyism
are widespread in business and government. A few dozen leading families hold a disproportionate
share of land, corporate wealth, and political power. A culture of impunity, stemming in part from case
backlogs in the judicial system, hampers the fight against corruption. The rule of law is generally
weak as courts are hampered by inefficiency, low pay, intimidation, and corruption. Rodrigo Duterte,
former Davao City Mayor, was elected as President in May 2016 and assumed office on June 30th,
2016. One of his main campaign promises was to end corruption in the country by abolishing
Congress.

Odyssey Fully Embodies the Greek Idea of Heroism
Greek mythology and the epic poems written during the Hellenistic period are filled with heroes and
their adventures, highlighting the qualities that Greeks perceived as valuable in men. Odysseus, a
prime example as the protagonist of The Odyssey, fully embodies the Greek idea of heroism, using his
physical skill, as well as his clever mind to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles. From
escaping the Cyclops lair to facing the suitors in Ithaca, Odysseus chooses to use strategy over brute
force often in The Odyssey and sets a precedent for future heroes of Western epics.
While Odysseus has physical strength on his side, he often exercises his mental prowess,
acknowledging that not all battles can be won with brute force. In Book IX, New Coasts and Poseidon
s Son , Odysseus and his crew are trapped in the cave of a gigantic, man eating Cyclops, Polyphemus.
This monster s size and strength clearly outmatch the physical abilities of Odysseus and his men,
creating a situation comparable to the story of David and Goliath. Instead of relying on his might,
Odysseus uses his cunning brain and concocts a clever escape plan.
Now came the time to toss for it [a six foot pole]: who ventured along with me? whose hand could
bear to thrust and grind that spike in Kyklops eye, when mild sleep had mastered him? (9.359 62)
Knowing that, under normal circumstances, the Cyclops would be easily able to fend off any attack by
him and his men, Odysseus cleverly lulls the giant to sleep,

Convertible Bond Funds invest in bonds that can be converted into preferred or common stock. The
benefit is that if an issuing company performs well after the issuance of the convertibles, the fund will
be able to gain by converting the bonds into the now more valuable stock.
Advantages to Issuing Companies
Lower interest rate on its debt The fund is, in effect, substituting the certain stream on interest
payments for the uncertainty of the growth prospects for the uncertainty of the growth prospects of
company that issues the bonds.
They represent potential common stock This future common stock feature may be desirable for a firm
that currently needs equity capital for an investment but does not want to issue common stock
immediately because of the potential dilution before the investment begins generating earnings.
Advantages to Investors
They provide the upside potential of common stock and the downside protection of a bond The upside
potential occurs because convertible bonds contain an option to buy stock by simply surrendering the
bond. If the stock price increases, the convertible bonds gain in value due to the increase in value of
the stock into which it can be converted. The downside protection occurs because, irrespective of what
happens to the stock, the price fo the bond will not decline below what it would be worth as a straight
bond.

Advantages Of The First Mover Vs. Market Follower
1.0 First Mover Vs. Market Follower
1.1 What is First Mover?
It is a form of competitive advantage that a company gain its fame and money by being the first to
enter a specific market or industry. Being the first often allows a company to acquire superior brand
recognition, as well as customer loyalty. The company also has more time to make perfect its product
or services before other competitors come along.
For examples of first movers include innovative companies such as eBay and Coca Cola. eBay was
the first company to take auctions process online in 1995. Coca Cola in the other place was the first
cola producer whom started off selling cough mixture but then realized consumers prefer drinking it as
soda, hence came up with the idea to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to be a first mover, an organisation must be a pioneer batch of business ideas, and this means
incurring costs in terms of time and investment. For example Sony, technology must be invented,
distribution systems have to be established and knowledge about new markets must be learned from
scratch, sometimes it may be painful. For those who comes later to the market, the costs of acquiring
all this knowledge can be much lower: products can be reverse engineered to discover their secrets
and then improved on or experienced staff can be head hunted from the first mover firm to impart and
share their knowledge and etc.
3.0 Benefits of Market Follower
Reduce risks
By focusing on what works and what does not. Hence will not repeat the costly mistakes of
competitors but yet still grows its customer base.
Avoid extra costs
Imitation can be just as effective and profitable as innovation. Market leaders take on costs of research
and development, distribution, and consumer education. However a market follower piggybacks on
the tactics that work best for the leader and gain its opportunity to appeal in a competitor s consumer
base. Instead of trying to be the best or most popular company, a market follower focuses on leverages
its own successes to grow the business.

Essay On Jacob Riis
Jacob
Riis was born on May 3, 1849 in Ribe, Denmark and later immigrated to the
United States in 1870 at the age of 21. When he arrived in New York city he had a total of only $40
and a locket that he had for as long as he can remember
(study.com). He did a lot of odd jobs around the city to earn just enough money to get by. Soon there
later he became a police reporter and found an interest in the things that he saw. So he taught himself
some photography skills and took a camera with him every time that he walked the streets. His belief

such harsh and dangerous conditions. So he protested and fought to get companies to get rid of all

United states. His stance was that a child should experience childhood and have fun because it was the
only chance they will have. Childhood was definitely not trying to be an adult in the work force to
help their family survive. After all, they got paid less than half of the adults and had to fix the small
parts on dangerous machinery because, they were the only ones small enough to do the job. This was a
terrible thought for Riis to imagine so he did what he had to do.
Jacob Riis also had very strong religious beliefs that he followed throughout his lifetime. Before Riis

A Brief Note On Confirmed Cerebrovascular Accident ( Cva )
To assess this patient who has a confirmed cerebrovascular accident (CVA) due to right middle
cerebral artery occlusion, a formal measure that can be utilized is the Ross Information Processing
Assessment Geriatric, Second Edition (RIPA G:2). The RIPA G:2 is used to assess the geriatric
population and can classify, define, and measure their cognitive linguistic deficits (Fogle Ross Swain,
2012). The RIPA G:2 is a valid assessment measure due to its high reliability and validity (Fogle Ross
Swain, 2012). This assessment includes seven subtests, which incorporate immediate memory,
temporal orientation, spatial orientation, recalling general information, situational knowledge,
categorical vocabulary, and listening comprehension (Fogle Ross Swain, 2012).
The connectionist model describes the different areas of the brain and how they process particular
types of information (Brookshire McNeil, 2015). We have a greater understanding of left hemispheric
damage. For example, if an individual has damage to their posterior inferior third frontal gyrus of the
left hemisphere, they will present with Broca s aphasia, which evidences as motor planning deficits.
While scientists and researchers have a general understanding of what the right hemisphere is
responsible for, we have yet to understand specific areas precise responsibilities. Generally, we
recognize the right hemisphere is responsible for behavior and cognition, perception, recognition and

to anything the British navy could use. Germany s navy build up did not go unnoticed and once
Britain learned that Germany was stockpiling supplies for the Dreadnaughts they too began to build.
Which developed into large scale and very expensive arms race between the two powers. Since the
immediate defeat of France was necessary to ensure victory the task had to be executed as quick as

What Is The Difference Between AAOIFRS And IFRS

Under the economic globalization and the rapid development of Islamic finance in recent years, the
business activities with Islamic countries became a worldwide focus. However, it is notable that the

the Islamic accounting standards AAOIFI were developed due to of the existing problem with the
adoption of the convention accounting standards (IFRS). In this chapter, to illustrate the difference

Besides, the company can issue shares, and hand out the dividends, or issue bonds and pay the
interest; moreover, taking a loan from the bank with interest is an alternative. However, in Islamic
accounting, the interest is not allowed, which prevent the company from raising the fund through last
two options. Thus, the Mudaraba is widely applied in Islamic economies. Mudaraba is a kind of
partnership which one party provides money to a commercial enterprise, and the funds are managed
by a third party based on Mudaraba investment management agreement. For example, the depositor
can authorize the Islamic bank to manage their funds, and get profit from the return on the funds
invested.
For the Mudaraba investment found, AAOIFI standards require presenting the funds in a separate item
between liabilities and equity in the statement of financial position. On the contrary, compliant with
IFRS, the fund will be recorded as liability.

For generations, parents glanced at their children and smiled with pride at their little angels painting of

Doctors believe Ritalin acts as a stimulant drug that can be used to increase arousal as well as the

is not completely understood, this stimulant, also known as Vitamin R, is placed in the hands of nearly
600,000 ADD and ADHD diagnosed children (Brink 79). Research has hypothesized that most ADHD

Canadian Politics In Western Canada
Introduction: Canadian politics has always been defined by the federal government s interactions with
the various regions and provinces within Canada. Over time, Canadian politics has evolved to be
focused on three individual issues: the federal government s attempt to keep Quebec within the
federation, the economic, political, and cultural dominance of Ontario, and, from a Western Canadian
point of view, the subordination of the West. The popularity of the latter notion has become
increasingly prominent within the Western provinces over the previous decades, due to the

This meta analysis necessitates, certain limitations that should be fetched in our conscience when

rests on self reports of a retrospective nature, that relies on individual memory capabilities, and are
related to false positives or false alarms. Victims self reports of sexual abuse may bias the results
towards concealing them (false negatives), in particular for males. Primary studies assume that injury
to mental health is ramifying to abuse, without gauging other possible causes (cause effect

as in many studies victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect, and other categories appear under

FINDING A BALANCE
Finding a Balance: Europa Universalis IV
In many ways, Europa Universalis 4 is less of a game about history, and more of a game about
understanding history. In this game, you play as any nation from 1444 until 1821, from the dawn of
the fall of the Western Roman Empire until the death of Napoleon, and your goals as a state are only
limited by your imagination and skill. Accomplishing a world conquest is completely within the realm
of possibility for a skilled player, or you could be the type of player who simply wants to form
Germany or unite the Holy Roman Empire.
The player can begin the game at any date during the period which the game takes place, with the map
of the world being representative of the actual world at that time, but players will often find that their
games do not come close to this accuracy even when the player has nothing to do with it. Because
every nation is played by an AI just as long as you have been playing your nation, sometimes variation
happens. From personal experience, I have seen
Venice control almost all of Greece when I was playing an Asian country. It is this variation which
gives the game excitement; if I knew how the game would progress every single time, I would play
one game and never play again.
On one hand, you have a serious, historical simulation of the world and how it progressed, and on the
other hand you have a game where Ulm, a German minor, can take over the entire European continent

Standardized Testing Argumentative Essay
Standardized tests, the monster all students have to face. These important tests are known to cause
high amounts of stress on not only students, but also teachers, causing them to teach to the test. This,
and the stress, can negatively affect a student s potential to learn as much as they possibly can. Studies
have proven that standardized tests also are not reliable for many reasons. One reason being,
standardized tests do not even accurately measure how much an individual student has learned. So,
why do standardized tests even exist?
The earliest form of standardized tests were used to measure the knowledge, of people wanting
government jobs, on philosophy and poetry. Another early form of standardized tests, were essays.
The more modern version of standardized tests started in the 1800 s when school had become more of
an option over working, to get children out of dangerous workplaces like factories. The tests these
students took are similar to modern ones, where everyone in the same grade gets the same exact test.
The reason for standardized tests back then, were to easily and quickly, evaluate how much the
students had learned. Now that we have more efficient ways of evaluating how much a student has
learned, why do we still use this method of testing?
There are two common ways a standardized test is taken. One way, is filling in ... Show more content

Teachers worry about losing their job if their students do not perform well on the test. So, they will
frequently teach to the test which means they may skip over a lesson if they think it will not be on the
test, or teach things a certain way because that s how they think it will be asked on a test. This can
alter the potential a student has to learn. Basically, standardized tests are used to determine how much
a student has learned, yet, at the same time, it is causing teachers to skip certain parts of the course.

The Issue Of Mineral Rights Essay
As a first time homebuyer in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, I thought I had very carefully prepared
myself for all that the process would involve, including gathering income and financial
documentation, qualifying for a mortgage, arranging for a thorough inspection, evaluating needs and
desires from a home and finding a reputable agent to represent my interests. One area I never
considered, however, was the issue of mineral rights. To be perfectly honest, although I d heard the
term, I d never given consideration to what it actually meant. But that all changed in the middle of my
home buying process and I d like to share with you the knowledge I ve gained through extensive
research I completed to protect my own rights and the rights I would possess as a soon to be
homeowner. According to property law, two different forms of rights exist in any real property:
surface rights and mineral rights. Surface rights refer to any structure erected above the surface or sub
surface structures that do not exceed a certain depth, as well as rights to use all surface property
surrounding structures in accordance with zoning ordinances. Mineral rights refer to mineral
substances below a certain depth and the way in which they are preserved, explored or extracted.
These mineral substances can include natural gas, oil, or any other substance in common use today
that can be mined or otherwise extracted from below the surface. Local laws set the depth below
which surface rights terminate

Portfolio Project
We changed our strategy after the first interim report. We realized that it is hard to use bottom up
approach to invest by looking into a particular stock to invest. Right now, we are trying to use top
down approach to invest in our portfolio. Top down approach is a method of analysis that involves
looking at the big picture first, and then analyzing the details of sector or industry then towards the
company or stocks. By first analyzing the overall picture, such as a macroeconomic trend, we can start
narrowing potential companies to invest.
After conducting some economic analysis, our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the data and the graph we worked out, we have outperformed Nasdaq from 10/22 11/26
and ours outperformed both on 11/14. Please refer to our graph 1 for details. The reason we think S
amp;P 500 and Nasdaq could be a good benchmarks is that there are many tech stocks, consumer
goods and service stocks and energy stocks just as ours does. I think one of the reason our portfolio
hasn t performed well enough is because our portfolio has a potential correlations and hasn t been
diversified enough.
The stocks we picked are all that we know about, which we think has the potential to grow in the
future. We had Nokia, Apple, Google, At amp;T, Cisco, Intel for Tech stock, and we had RDS, ETP,
Duke, for energy, and Wells Fargo amp;co and Coca Cola for consumer goods and services. There are
some particular stocks that we d like to talk about: I, Lijing Lu, actually believe that Nokia is going to
perform well in two month when I first started trading because its release of Lumia 920. After its
presentation and new conference in Oct, it confirms my belief, and that s why I bought a great portion
of Nokia. However, it didn t perform well as I expected it to in the next 2 weeks. We were afraid that
people lose faith in Nokia even with the help of Microsoft s generous donation . On Nov. 6th, we saw
that Nokia was picking up, and that s when I decided to buy back Nokia again. Though

Indigenous People In American Culture
The word indigenous derives from a latin root which is connected with birth, reproduction, and death.
It has the same meaning as the word native but, in many parts of the world because it carries too many
negative associations. Referring to indigenous peoples in the twenty first century is not the same as
describing them a hundred years ago, and it will be different a hundred years into the future: neither
they nor their situation will be the same. (locations 262 264) No peoples today live the life that our

Many tribes in the Amazon fish by crushing plant poisons which stuns the fish. They then pick the fish
out of the water. Many other peoples used poison as a method of hunting including the Bushman in the
Kalahari. Hunting involves cleverness and modification however, there are rules. People have set
boundaries for their hunting grounds. If they are on another s land they need to seek permission to

requires a larger group of people. The biggest portion of a hunter gatherers diet comes from gathering
not hunting. There is evidence that many hunter gatherer tribes drastically changed the land in order to

part about the setting is the sewer tunnels that Harry uses to sneak around while pretending to be dead.
This tunnel system was hidden and more intricate than the police or Holly knew, which mirrors Harry

should the MR technician start? What is feasible? What does Quinte do in the interim?  How to
entice talent to a small town? Can you convince them to do a night shift? How do you set up machine
sharing routines? How will you first clear the existing backlog? Case Wrap Up Lessons learned in this
case include the following: It is good to solve problems, in general, but simply fixing a few things
(e.g. better scheduling) is typically not enough. In this case, we must deal with the lack of capacity by
addressing the bottleneck. One important question: What resource should be the bottleneck? Typically,
this will be the resource that is the most expensive (e.g. automated cutting machine), most difficult to
acquire (e.g. comes in large chucks, has long lead times), most highly trained (e.g. brain surgeons),
etc. For Quinte, this is clearly the MRI machine itself. Given the MRI should be the bottleneck; the
other resources must have protective capacity. This means adding enough of everything with cycle
times longer than the MRI machine for sure an extra MR technician. The role of non bottlenecks is to
protect the ability of the bottleneck to operate at full utilization. However, in this situation, there is
also a complicating requirement for quick response under highly variable conditions. This means that
we want the MRI machine to have some

What do you understand to be the concept of entrepreneurship and why has it become such an
important area of focus?
Q2) What do you understand to be the concept of entrepreneurship and why has it become such an
important area of focus?
The concept of entrepreneurship is often viewed as a function, which involves the exploitation of
opportunities, which exist within a market. Such exploitation is most commonly associated with the
direction and/or combination of productive inputs. Entrepreneurs usually are considered to bear risk
while pursuing opportunities, and often are associated with creative and innovative actions. In
addition, entrepreneurs undertake a managerial role in their activities, but routine management of an ...

Entrepreneurship is the dynamic process of creating incremental wealth. Individuals who assume the
major risks in terms of equity, time and/or career commitment or provide value for some product or
service create the wealth. The product or service may or may not be new or unique, but the
entrepreneur must somehow infuse value by receiving and locating the necessary skills and resources.
Although each of these definitions views entrepreneurs from a slightly different perspective, they all
contain similar notions, such as newness, organizing, creating, wealth, and risk taking. Yet each
definition is somewhat restrictive, since entrepreneurs are found in all professions: education,
medicine, research, law, architecture, engineering, social work, distribution and government.
Entrepreneurship is the process of creating something new with value by devoting the necessary time
and effort, assuming the accompanying financial, psychic, and social risks, and receiving the resulting
rewards of monetary and personal satisfaction and independence. Four basic aspects of being an
entrepreneur regardless of the field: first, entrepreneurship involves the creation process creating

  • 2. Daniel Story Erika Quotes In the book Daniel Story, by Carol Matas, the character Erika is admirable because she is creative, determined and above all she is brave. Erika is someone I would look up to. She goes through a lot, she still survives the Nazi s, but dies from illness. Erika is creative because she makes her own music. In Lodz she had her own violin and played her music in their apartment, untill the Nazi s took it away from her. Another reason Erika is creative is because she came up with her own speech in Lodz. The speech was very inspiring and even made Daniel, Erika s brother, and Rosa, Erika s best friend, speechless. The speech read I m ashamed of you, too. Don t you see? This is the way Nazis think. • 3. How Did Frederick Douglass Benefit From His Education Throughout the works of Frederick Douglass there is a prominent contradiction referring to literacy. At times, Douglass regrets his education as it makes his slavery more difficult to tolerate. Additionally, his education opens them up to more abuse as Harriet Jacob asserts they were living in a culture of silence (Cutter 209). Thorough examination of Frederick Douglass writing reveals various paradoxes within his testimony regarding his literary education; while Douglass did benefit from his education in some way, in many other ways, it shattered his spirit and lead to a lifetime of abuse. Douglass narrative demonstrates how his literary education is both a blessing and a curse. He believed that permitting slaves to read was a contradiction, a paradox if you will, unable to render freedom, or provide them a legitimate education. Douglass reasoned that the education was a ploy to let African Americans believe they were treated fairly. Douglass expresses, As I read and contemplated the subject, behold! that very discontentment which Master Hugh had predicted would follow my learning to read had already come, to torment and sting my soul to unutterable anguish (Douglass 1200). Douglass displays the injustice and frustration of this situation; he is fully aware that he is being treated unfairly. For a short time, Douglass did consider his literacy a gift. This was the first opportunity that many African Americans had to obtain an education. Having the ability to read ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The basic unit of analysis for making merchandise management decisions is the merchandise category (Levy Weitz, 2009), these are groups of items and brands that consumers see as direct substitutes for one another, and for example different brands of milk cheese make up the dairy category. These categories can be managed either by category or by brand; both of these approaches have advantages and disadvantages. The advantages of category management are that management can ensure that the category containing the best combinations of vendors or brands and sizes.
  • 5. Store layout with regard to merchandise has a direct impact on the positioning of the store. The retailer needs to decide how much store space to allocate towards a specific product category and how much space must be allocated towards isles and advertising space. This is especially important with regard to seasonal products such as Easter Eggs or other Easter merchandise. The differences in the placement of these seasonal items between the different Spar shops will be used to determine the difference in sales of those items. 3.1 INVENTORY Increasing inventory turnover is a cornerstone to improving the sales volume and therefore the net revenue of the retailer. Inventory turnover is especially important for perishable goods such as fruit and vegetables. • 6. Dietary Analysis of Sympatric Mammalian Carnivores in the... Resource partitioning occurs amongst animals that share the same resources, such as food and space (Shoener 1974), and allows for their coexistence (May 1973). The different utilization of spatial, temporal, and trophic niches between sympatric species allows for their partitioning of resources (Jácomo et al. 2004). Difference in body mass is one of the factors that contribute to the coexistence of species in that different sized animals will generally eat different sized food items, therefore utilizing different resources and reducing competition (Wilson 1975; Jácomo et al. 2004). In the case of predatory carnivores, as predator body mass increases, the size of their prey increases (Gittleman 1985; Vézina 1985). Differences in body ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The diets of the remaining mesocarnivores are relatively similar in that they all primarily prey on small to medium sized lagomorphs and rodents, with fishers having an affinity for porcupines. The remainder of the mesocarnivore diet consists of reptiles, birds, carrion, and with the exception of bobcats, fruit and insects (Cavallini et al. 2009). In this study, the diets of these carnivores in Keweenaw County will be analyzed to determine prey partitioning through scat analyses and the use of scent stations. Specifically, the hypotheses tested will be that black bears will consume primarily plant material, gray wolves will feed primarily on large ungulates, and amongst the mesocarnivores, predator body mass will correlate with prey size. In particular, the larger coyotes and bobcats will feed primarily on medium sized mammalian prey, such as snowshoe hares and cottontail rabbits, and the smaller red foxes, fishers, and American martens will feed primarily on smaller prey, such as voles, mice, and squirrels, along with porcupines in the fisher diet. Methods Study Area The 1,400 square kilometer study area is Keweenaw County, located in Michigan s northwestern Upper Peninsula, which comprises the very northern tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula jutting into southern Lake Superior (Binford 2006; Fig. 1). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the early 19th century, the prospect of the future was usually related to utopia. Expectation of human reason and confidence in science, which were influenced by civil revolution and industrial revolution, made many people look forward to more advanced societies. However, as modern problems including the gulf between rich and poor became serious, criticism against harmful effects of industrialization started to arise. The emergence of literature about dystopia showed this criticism. Similarly, time traveller in the book looked the future society as utopia. He said that the whole earth had become a garden. (30). He also believed in a perfect conquest of Nature (32). However, as he discovered the real aspect of future society, he admitted that his first theory that the future is utopia was totally wrong. It is actually dystopia which is far different from what he expected. The Machiavellian reformation comes from a want to secularize the world while the Protestant Reformations are based on the belief that Christendom should take priority over the temporal world. Machiavelli believed that, All armed profits have conquered, and the unarmed ones have been destroyed, ( Machiavelli 4). Ethical Issues In Freedom From Hunger And Thirst Ethical Issues Aside from the possible advantages, disadvantages and alternatives to the procedure, an owner, as well as a veterinarian, must consider the ethical risks surrounding an invasive cosmetic surgery such as debarking. The five freedoms are crucial in considering the welfare of an animal, and after exploring the advantages and disadvantages to debarking, there can be a violation of some sort in every one of these freedoms (11). The first freedom, Freedom from Hunger and Thirst, has a possibility of being violated, as complications to the procedure can result in scarring of the larynx, ultimately obstructing the ability for an animal to swallow their food/water. Freedom from Pain, Injury and Disease ties into these first two freedoms, because as mentioned above, the animal is going to be in pain from an invasive procedure, followed by an increased risk of infection and disease due to the nature of the area being performed on. Animals have a tendency to lick and/or eat anything that they deem as delicious or interesting, whether it is out of boredom, hunger, or curiosity. Having any extra opportunities for bacteria or viruses from feces, other dogs, etc. to enter the wound is increasing the risk of the animal succumbing to a disease, infection or virus that they may not have contracted otherwise. The Freedom to Express Normal Behaviour is one of the welfare concerns most obvious in the case of debarking, as the animal is no longer able to perform the type of communication they use most frequently. While they are able to bark , they are not effectively communicating in the way they intend to. This leads to the violation of the Freedom from Fear and Distress, as not being able to communicate with their owner can lead to fear, distress and aggression in pets (2). This freedom can be a difficult welfare concern to address, because if the surgery is not performed and a pet is relinquished, this may also cause fear and distress if they are well accustomed to their ... Burmese Days allowed for a glimpse into the time period without that the rose covered glasses. We were in the middle of a British Colony and seeing everything that it could entail. In Burma, much like the other colonies, the British have made themselves the superior race. In Burmese Days Orwell showcases two native characters that have high ranks vocationally one Burmese, U Po Kyin, and one Indian, Dr. Veraswami, but because of their race are seen as inferior. Throughout the novel, these two have the goal of being elected a member of the English club, where the British people spend most of their free time avoiding the natives and pretending to be in England. The thing about either native being elected though, neither one of them planned on being an active member of the club. In fact, they knew it would be more of a symbolic membership. • 22. Three Models And Theories Of Classroom Management Analysis of Three Models/Theories of Classroom Management A teacher s classroom duties and responsibilities vary. However, the key role of a teacher is to maintain effective classroom management by creating a safe and supportive learning environment. To avoid disorder in the classroom, teachers need to establish an environment where rules or procedures guide students conduct. The absence of such classroom organisation creates an ineffective and unsustainable teaching and learning environment. Therefore, an understanding of the different theories of classroom management such as Goal Centered Theory, Cognitive Behavioural Theory and Assertive Discipline equips teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to offer students the best chance to succeed at school. A teacher s beliefs, attitudes and values help inform the best approach; therefore, an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the three aforementioned theories will be conducted, in addition to a concluding summary detailing the similarities and differences. Firstly, Goal Centered Theory [GCT] is a classroom management approach developed by Rudolf Dreikurs. Dreikurs founded GCT on the psychoeducational philosophies of Alfred Adler s Individual Psychology Theory (Wright, 1957). The key principles of GCT advise that students behaviour is goal directed, purposeful and aimed at attaining social approval (Dreikurs, Grunwald Pepper, 1998; Lyons, Ford Slee, 2014). Odyssey Fully Embodies the Greek Idea of Heroism Greek mythology and the epic poems written during the Hellenistic period are filled with heroes and their adventures, highlighting the qualities that Greeks perceived as valuable in men. Odysseus, a prime example as the protagonist of The Odyssey, fully embodies the Greek idea of heroism, using his physical skill, as well as his clever mind to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles. From escaping the Cyclops lair to facing the suitors in Ithaca, Odysseus chooses to use strategy over brute force often in The Odyssey and sets a precedent for future heroes of Western epics. While Odysseus has physical strength on his side, he often exercises his mental prowess, acknowledging that not all battles can be won with brute force. In Book IX, New Coasts and Poseidon s Son , Odysseus and his crew are trapped in the cave of a gigantic, man eating Cyclops, Polyphemus. This monster s size and strength clearly outmatch the physical abilities of Odysseus and his men, creating a situation comparable to the story of David and Goliath. • 40. Finding A Balance 2 FINDING A BALANCE Finding a Balance: Europa Universalis IV In many ways, Europa Universalis 4 is less of a game about history, and more of a game about understanding history. In this game, you play as any nation from 1444 until 1821, from the dawn of the fall of the Western Roman Empire until the death of Napoleon, and your goals as a state are only limited by your imagination and skill. Accomplishing a world conquest is completely within the realm of possibility for a skilled player, or you could be the type of player who simply wants to form Germany or unite the Holy Roman Empire. The player can begin the game at any date during the period which the game takes place, with the map of the world being representative of the actual world at that time, but players will often find that their games do not come close to this accuracy even when the player has nothing to do with it. Because every nation is played by an AI just as long as you have been playing your nation, sometimes variation happens. From personal experience, I have seen Venice control almost all of Greece when I was playing an Asian country. It is this variation which gives the game excitement; if I knew how the game would progress every single time, I would play one game and never play again. On one hand, you have a serious, historical simulation of the world and how it progressed, and on the other hand you have a game where Ulm, a German minor, can take over the entire European continent within several hundred ... • 41. Standardized Testing Argumentative Essay Standardized tests, the monster all students have to face. These important tests are known to cause high amounts of stress on not only students, but also teachers, causing them to teach to the test. This, and the stress, can negatively affect a student s potential to learn as much as they possibly can. Studies have proven that standardized tests also are not reliable for many reasons. One reason being, standardized tests do not even accurately measure how much an individual student has learned. So, why do standardized tests even exist? The earliest form of standardized tests were used to measure the knowledge, of people wanting government jobs, on philosophy and poetry. Another early form of standardized tests, were essays. The more modern version of standardized tests started in the 1800 s when school had become more of an option over working, to get children out of dangerous workplaces like factories. The tests these students took are similar to modern ones, where everyone in the same grade gets the same exact test. The reason for standardized tests back then, were to easily and quickly, evaluate how much the students had learned. Now that we have more efficient ways of evaluating how much a student has learned, why do we still use this method of testing? There are two common ways a standardized test is taken. One way, is filling in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Teachers worry about losing their job if their students do not perform well on the test. • 42. The Issue Of Mineral Rights Essay As a first time homebuyer in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, I thought I had very carefully prepared myself for all that the process would involve, including gathering income and financial documentation, qualifying for a mortgage, arranging for a thorough inspection, evaluating needs and desires from a home and finding a reputable agent to represent my interests. One area I never considered, however, was the issue of mineral rights. To be perfectly honest, although I d heard the term, I d never given consideration to what it actually meant. But that all changed in the middle of my home buying process and I d like to share with you the knowledge I ve gained through extensive research I completed to protect my own rights and the rights I would possess as a soon to be homeowner. According to property law, two different forms of rights exist in any real property: surface rights and mineral rights. Surface rights refer to any structure erected above the surface or sub surface structures that do not exceed a certain depth, as well as rights to use all surface property surrounding structures in accordance with zoning ordinances. Mineral rights refer to mineral substances below a certain depth and the way in which they are preserved, explored or extracted. These mineral substances can include natural gas, oil, or any other substance in common use today that can be mined or otherwise extracted from below the surface. In this case, we must deal with the lack of capacity by addressing the bottleneck. One important question: What resource should be the bottleneck? Typically, this will be the resource that is the most expensive (e.g. automated cutting machine), most difficult to acquire (e.g. comes in large chucks, has long lead times), most highly trained (e.g. brain surgeons), etc. For Quinte, this is clearly the MRI machine itself. Given the MRI should be the bottleneck; the other resources must have protective capacity. This means adding enough of everything with cycle times longer than the MRI machine for sure an extra MR technician.
