because the detective follows and meets all of the criterias, and the book also falls under a few

This is a detective novel where the main detective and protagonist is a female. The first well
known female detective was Amelia Butterworth. She was created by Anna Katharine Green in
1897. She was in the book The Affair Next Door. The book, Look For Me, follows all of these
subgenres because the lead detective, Sergeant Detective D.D. Warren is a female detective.
Also, the book does follow police procedural because the detective is in the police force and uses
some tactics a police officer would use when solving a murder case. This novel is a thriller
because the reader wants to continue reading. The reader would be anticipating in this book,
and be excited when new clues were found. Sergeant detective D.D. Warren inspires to be the
best. She is very strong, and represents what a great detective is all about. She does not let
anyone get in her way when she is solving crimes. She really only likes to work with her three co
workers that deal with homicides, also. Detective Warren does not shy away from a case, no
matter how gruesome, or how horrible it was. She always is trying to find out what happened.
She represents females, and how females are capable of solving crimes, while also being very
independent while doing so. Sergeant Detective D.D. Warren keeps the story exciting. The reader
is always on their toes when reading this novel. Detective Warren is very involved, and easy to
follow. As well as, she is a one of a kind

Cooperative Learning Reflection
Following our presentation of why cooperative learning benefits students in mathematics, we hoped
the class would be able to distinguish the differences between direct learning environments from
cooperative learning. Additionally, we hoped the class would understand how all students become
active participants in their learning through cooperative learning and receive higher academic
success. Lastly, it was a goal of ours that the class recognized the acquired skills students gain from
cooperative learning and why it should be incorporated in their futureclassroom.
Overall our mini lesson went smooth, but we for sure had a few bumps throughout the presentation.
We successfully presented the benefits of cooperative learning and how achievement scores are
higher in mathematics when this approach is taken. However, we struggled with application to the
real world and how we as future educators should implement cooperative learning into our
classrooms. Content wise our group did a strong job focusing on distinguishing the differences in
two different classroom approaches, such as direct learning versus cooperative learning. Through
multiple research studies we were able to express to the class the benefits students receive when
actively engaged in a cooperative learning environment. We used the textbook definition for
cooperative learning and an in class presentation to define direct learning, which helped assist the
class in understanding the differences, especially because

Christianity Is A Religion Based On The Person And God
There are over a billion people in the World who follow and support the Catholic Church.
Christianity is a religion based on the person and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. Ever since
Christianity started to emerge in the mid first century it has only increased in size and became even
more powerful now than in the origins of the Religion. JesusChrist is considered to be the Son of
Godand through the Bible s scriptures that include many sacred writings of Christianityit has given
people hope and more importantly something to believe in. Faith is a huge part of any Religion
because that is when you put your complete trust or confidence in someone or something. For
Christians our faith is put into the Bible, believing in and worshipping a supreme being, God, and a
superhuman, Jesus Christ. The importance to Christianity and to anyone s growth in Christian life
can be seen through believing in someone whether human or divine, God as three persons in one
divine being, genuine friendship, the sacraments, and Jesus Christ as the fullness of both divinity
and humanity. Although Christianity is not for everyone, there are thousands of different kinds of
Religion from which an individual can choose to follow. Even though Christianity is one of the
biggest Religions in the World there are just some people who either don t believe in Christianity
or have a hard time understanding it. Being brought up as a Christian I have put my faith in God s
hands as did my family and many others.

Geography Of Athens Essay
Geography affected the society, culture, and trade in the Greek city state of Athens. It also
impacted social, political, and economical patterns. From the small city states to the vast countries
they wouldn t be how they are today without the impact on geography. The climate, the region, and
the sea are all important aspects of the geography of Athens.
Athens is a polis of Attica which is surrounded by the Gulf of Evoikos, the Saronic Gulf, Aegean
Sea, and the Gulf of Corinth; therefore makes it a peninsula. The proximity of the sea helped to
shape the economy. This affected the politics and society because it allowed them to contact people

Greece has a vast percentage of its land full of hills and rugged mountains, therefore making it
one of the most mountainous countries in Europe. The mountains helped to separate various
regions of Greek land which prevented them from creating larger colonies and were present from
all sides of the horizon: Mt Hymettus to the east, Mt Parnes to the north, Mt Egaleo to the west,
and Mt Pentelikon to the north east. Mount Olympus was the largest mountain in all of Greek.
Athens became an oligarchy under the role of the aristocrats who owned the best land and
controlled the political life. Men have all the right, but women, foreigners, and slaves had no right
and has vast restrictions in their culture. Women could only stay in their houses taking care of
their children unless there were religious festivals or reunions being held in their town or village,
then they were able to participate if they had a spouse. If Athenian farmers were unable to pay
their debts, they had to be sold in slavery. The Athenian assembly had the ability to pass laws after

The Han-Chinese Conflict
There are many conflicts that exist around the world today. One of these conflicts includes the
conflict between the Uighurs and Han Chinese. This conflict has been occurring within the
Xinjiang region for many years now. The Xinjiang region is located within China in the upper west
side of the state. In 1775 the Qing dynastyhad a region of various Turkic, Mongol, and Chinese
groups under control. The Xinjiang Province became the first establishment of the Chinese
Imperial in 1884. After the fall of the Qing Dynasty in 1912 the Xinjiang province was ruled by
the Uighur group known as the East Turkestan Islamic Group. The Uighurs is a Muslim and
ethnically Turkic population that regard themselves as culturally and ethnically close to Central
Asian nations. East Turkestan lies in the heart of Asia and is the homeland of the Turkic speaking
Uighurs and central Asia people such as Kazaks, Kyrgyz, Tatars, Uzbeks, and Tajiks.

Employee Retention, Employee Performance Management
Abstract
Effective staff management is essential to ensuring your workplace runs smoothly and efficiently,
and that the right employees are in the right positions (McQuerrey, 2015). This research looks at
the top five staffing issues companies have when looking for potential employees. Through the
research process I used several qualified articles, journals, books and websites. I will discuss topics
such as employee retention, employee performance management, employee training and
development, outsourcing and termination of services. I will also include a recommendation based
from the research provided. All the human resource activities are dependent on the cost benefit

Performance management is collaborative such that the expectations of the management of a certain
employee have to be set by discussion and consultation between the organization s management and
the worker such that the performance standards are set and attainable according to the capabilities
of the employee (Mondy, Noe Gowan, 2005). Performance management consists of a cycle of
interrelated activities. The first stage of the cycle is the clarification of expectations. Employees
have to be involved at this point since it is the main determinant of their actions. This stage focuses
on the setting of the goals and standards of the evaluation of performance that are both attainable
and realistic according to the capabilities of the employee. The second stage in the performance
management cycle is the planning and development of the performance. The stage concerns itself
with the actual actions that the employees will undertake in order to reach their key performance
indicators in their respective result areas. The performance management planning acts as the basis
of control on the performance. The third step is the monitoring of the performance. Performance
management has to be conducted as an ongoing case for the attainment of the overall goals of the
organization. Current performance management helps in the creation of the right information
concerning the performance of a certain group. It is also the primary basis for the evaluation of the

Analysis Of Overprotected Kid By Hanna Rosin
Play Project
In the article of the Overprotected Kid written by Hanna Rosin, gives some informational stuff to
think back on and all the way to present time. The article gives you something to think about
especially with playgrounds and world around us. One that amazed me was about how everything
seemed so creative back in the day. They would use stuff as play items that I never even imaged
would be fun. Such as stated in the article, doing mad flips on a stack of filthy mattresses, which
makes a fine trampoline. At the other end of the playground, a dozen or so of the younger kids dart
in and out of large structures made up of wooden pallets stacked on top of one another. Reading
this part, I was like wow for people that left stuff laying around got kids make a use out of it. I
think it s significant because children are having fun using materials and their imagination.
Another thing is kids got excited when things were donated as stated in the quote kids seem
excited by a walker that was donated by one of the elderly neighbors and is repurposed, at
different moments, as a scooter, a jail cell, and a gymnastics bar. The second one being fire lit in
the playground. It s been shown to have a lot of benefits of fun. In London after World War 2
stated that Children who might grow up to fight wars were not shielded from danger. In America
seeing a video of kids playing around fire brought major shock to parents because, of how
unnormal it is in our country. First

Using Forensic Analysis
The major take away from this talk are, realize the important of forensic analysis for investigators,
identify deleted data, know the process of database carver and understand the persistence of
database. In the paragraph below I will explain each lesson in detail.
The most effective advantage of using database carver is to help investigators to solve crime case.
Retrieving database would aid to identify criminals and provide evidence for the case. Also, it
assists to distinguish identity theft. Additionally, it supports analyzing the evidence against the
criminal. These cyber crimes may involve database. So, investigators use forensic analysis for
digital investigation such as, breaches, intrusions or any identity theft. Moreover, investigators
could use forensic analysis to provide useful evidence from either computer or mobile base
technology. They use the database caver to recover deleted or corrupted database to solve
mysterious crime. Furthermore, the investigators used three stages to inspect digital crime. First,
they preserve the existing evidence, take a copy of the existing storage and if there is a working
memory they take a RAM snapshot. Then, they use the database carver to reconstruct the database.
Finally, they analyze the data to associate the reassembled database.

Birth Defects in differenct Cultures
In many cultures, birth defects are considered a curse and are sought to be removed by some
method: spiritually or by simply ignoring them. However, as science is improving and eyes are
opening towards the topic of birth defects, more research has been conducted to understand and
accept them. Since the 1960s, the federal government introduced ways that mentally ill patients
could live outside a mental hospital, where they were confined from the general public, and live a
normal life. Many communities and mental centers were built to allow continuous and efficient
care for those patients from their homes. Yet, the question remains whether or not the whole world
has accepted mental illnesses. Many believe that the mentally ill should be... Show more content on

what life is like for the mentally ill. Included in the event was a symposium that explored the on

violent killer stereotypes of the mentally ill, Australian films like The Sunnyboy, a documentary
of the life of a singer suffering from schizophrenia, and Hypothesis, a film about the director s
twelve year battle with bipolar disorder, were presented at the symposium. Canada s latest project

Equality is not seen in other parts of the world as people in other countries continue to classify
people with mental illnesses as a disgrace. Furthermore, despite all the awareness and campaigns to
get people to sympathize and empathize with the mentally ill, many people believe in ignoring and
even neglecting these illnesses to avoid public ostracization. This is widely seen in developing

Yes, she may have been the 16th woman to be issued her pilot s license, but she did more than
anyone could have thought with that license. Being the first female pilot the fly across the
Atlantic Ocean says a lot(Amelia). This shows that Amelia Earhart had the strength and courage
than most other women at the time. She proved to a lot of people that women are as strong and
as powerful as anyone else and that they are able to conquer anything. Even though she was
moved around a lot as a child due to an alcoholic father, this did not discourage her(Amelia). Her
disappearance is not only saddening, but also very confusing and mysterious. Even though we don

was a strong and amazing woman that did great things for women in history. Amelia Earharts
parents, Amelia Mary Earhart and Samuel Stanton Earhart, gave birth to her on July 24,

would abuse her and her family. This led to her mother taking her and her sister to her

Contractual Precedent Within Employment Law
Contractual Precedent within Employment Law Contractual Precedent Regarding General
Employment For a contract to be legally binding, agreements between two parties or more is
necessary. For a contract to be valid certain elements must take place, these include the terms
offer, acceptance, consideration and intention. Within employment it is vital that employers
have contracts intact between them and their employees. The party making the offer are known
as the offeror and the party who the offer has been made to is known as the offeree. Once a
contract is made and it s established as being valid, damages can be claimed for if there has been
a breach in the contract. There are a number of elements that need to be in place in order for a
contract to be valid. Where the element of offer comes into action is when an individual
expresses an action to enter an agreement with another party on the basis on certain principles
and elements. Where an employment circumstance is concerned, an offer would be proposed by
an employer however in certain situations an offer could be placed forward by an employee.
Amid this period it s likely that another offer would be made by one of the parties involved. At
this time additional terms would be discussed and evaluated among the parties involved. Once a
new offer is placed the original offer would be cancelled. Acceptance is another vital part of the
contract. It is essential that acceptance is the unconditional acceptance of all the elements

The Other Side Of Dark By Joan Lowery Nixon

Literacy Narrative
Most children are not very fond of reading books in school. I was one of those children until I
read a novel called, The Other Side of Dark written by Joan Lowery Nixon in the 4th grade. My
school had held a book fair during the week of open house. As a child, all children want the toys
and games they had at the book fair, not bothering to even glance at the books. My mother told
me to look for a book that was not only easy for me to read but something that I would enjoy. I
walked around our petite library, which was where the book fair was being held, and scanned the
various novels that were displayed until one caught my eye. I was only 10 years old looking for a
book without the knowledge of what types of literature that interested me. As I turned the corner at
the end of the library I caught a glimpse of a hardcover novel called The Other Side of Dark . On
the back of novel I read the synopsis which was about a 13 year old girl who was shot and put into
coma until she was 17 years old waking up to discovering that her family was also murdered by
the same person who shot her 4 years ago. I was quickly captivated by this summary on the back
of the novel and persuaded to read further. Open house was coming to an end and my family and
I headed back to our house in La Mirada, California. One of our homework assignments was to
read at least 20 minutes a night to improve our reading skills. We quickly arrived at our home and I

Wealth-Power Related Economic and Socialist Theories
The different theories of political economy had attempted to explain international political economy
through formulating a clear relation between the interaction of wealth and power. Is political power
more significant on the international level for the stability of the state compared to economic
development? How does power and wealth shape the society, and as a result shape the international
sphere? The questions regarding the relationship between power and wealth are, in my opinion, the
most important questions, not only in the sphere of international political economy, but also in the
social sciences sphere as a large. It significance comes from it s essential role in determining the
structure of the society and the nature of every... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Historical Realism on the other hand takes into consideration the historical development at that
moment, the moment of development. Scholars of historical Realism still see the state as an agent
that attempts to farther its self interest; however, they also are interested in the historical factors,
which affect the state decision in pursuing its goals in relations to other states. Thus, we can see
that the realist prospective emphasizes the role of the state as the supreme power, ignoring the role
of other actors, such as international organizations and multinational corporations. By that logic,
states seek to gain power; wealth is a tool to gain that power, it is not an end by itself; and economic
interest will change with the change of the position of the state within the international sphere. One
must ask then, in a globalized world, where economic actors have significant power as much as
political actors, can we still consider the state as the most important player in the international
sphere? Mercantilism, as I see it, is the other side of the coin in relation to realism. Mercantilists
emphasize the importance of economic protectionism for the national industries, especially for
manufactured goods, through high tariffs. This theory, as in realism, point out the importance of
maintaining national interest above all; however, economic

Nutcracker is a ballet about a young German girl, Clara, who dreams of a Nutcracker Prince and a

In The Nutcracker , we are introduced to this new instrument, which is the celesta. Tchaikovsky
once wrote to his publisher that the celesta was an instrument that was something between a piano
and a glockenspiel, with a divinely beautiful tone. The impact that Tchaikovsky s own works had
on the ballet set new standards for the classical ballet and the role of music within it. He set this
standard through his mastery of danseuse , or melodies which match physical movements perfectly,
vivid orchestration, effective themes, and continuity of thought (Classic Cat). Many of his well
known ballets, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker , are said to be enduring masterworks and
wonderful examples of nineteenth century classical ballet. Towards the end of the artistic life of
the nineteenth century, ballet began to take a steady position in Tchaikovsky s consciousness. In a

Analysis Of Sherman s The Battle Of The Sea
4 Sherman s March To The Sea
Sherman s March to the Sea is the name commonly given to the Savannah Campaign by Maj. Gen.
William Tecumseh Sherman taking place from November 15, 1864 to December 21, 1864. which
followed the successful Atlanta Campaign. After leaving the decimated city of Atlanta on
November 16, Sherman led his troops on a destructive campaign which concluded with the capture
of the port city of Savannah on December 21. It is known for its boldness as well as the sheer
destruction inflicted on the south, both to its industry as well as military targets, effectively
destroying the Confederate s capacity to wage war.
Efforts to forestall Sherman s operations in central Georgia began in late September 1864, when
President Jefferson Davis personally visited the threatened front. On September 25 he reached
Palmetto, Ga., some 25 miles southwest of enemy occupied Atlanta. Palmetto was then
headquarters for General John B. Hood, commanding the Confederate Army of Tennessee.
Just two months earlier Davis had bumped Hood up the seniority ladder to take over the army after
General Joseph E. Johnston had failed to stop Sherman s march from Chattanooga to the outskirts of
Atlanta. Hood quickly launched a series of fierce offensive strikes at the Union forces enfolding the
city. None succeeded in halting the enemy, however, and Atlanta was abandoned on September 1.
Hood did have another plan, which, considering his situation, was about as good as could be
expected.

and as stress free as possible. The first thing you want to do is set up a budget. Plan to spend 10
percent of your overall wedding budget on your dress. This number is simply a starting point. If

you plenty of time to shop and see what is available. If you are short on time, keep in mind you
can expedite this by paying a surcharge for the gown. In the search for the perfect dress, you
want to research what is available. This part of the process will allow you to think about what

Although Allied troops encountered many Japanese kamikaze planes which destroyed some
warships, the Allied Air Force successfully supported their troops on the ground. While the Sixth
Army landed more troops on the beach, the I Corps protected them and advanced eastward, and
the XIV Corps moved south toward Manila. Because of central Luzon s geographical features
mostly open plains the XIV Corps was able to quickly advance toward Manila. Around this time,
another amphibious landing of the Eighth Army occurred to the south of Manila. From there, the
11th Airborne Division also advanced on Manila. While the XIV Corps was advancing southward,
the I Corps switched to defending their left flank. Meanwhile, General Yamashita had his strongest
forces deployed in north Luzon and around the Clark Air Base. However, the Japanese were
disorganized because of lack of communications and were not prepared for many US attacks. On
their southward journey, when the XIV Corps reached Clark Air Base, they battled for control until
it was captured on January 29, which also gave the US more supplies found within the base.
Following this, the XIV Corps pushed towards Manila and started the attack on January 31 from the
north and south of the city. On February 4th the 11th Airborne Division advanced into the city, but
met strong Japanese defences. They pushed through and finished capturing the defences on

Book Of Jeremiah Research Paper
However, to embrace the exiles from Judah in their circumstances and reflect on the message of
God spoken through the Prophet Jeremiah found in 29:10 14 one must know the circumstances that
led up to the Babylonian destruction of Judah and the oppression of the kingdom s people as exiles.
One must know the destruction before one may see the grace of God bestowed upon the people in a
message of renewal, restoration and salvation. Judah, the southern kingdom, came under threat
from the Babylonians during the time of Jeremiah the Prophetwhich was from 628 until 586 B.C.E.
Egypt had aided Judah during the first threat in 588 B.C.E. and Judah did not fall. However, during
the second attack on Judah the monarchs were not able to defend Judah and... Show more content on

In chapter 29, one hears Jeremiah say to accept servitude to the Babylonians. The Judeans have
come under punishment from God for their sins. They have received the punishment due to them
according to God and their lives it seems at this point are at the hands of their enemies the
Babylonians even though their fate is in God s hands. Jeremiah continues to speak out
prophetically fighting against those who are false prophets who are intent on telling the people
warm and fuzzy lies to cover up and deny the brokenness that has caused them to be in exile. God
has spoken to Jeremiah of why Judah must be in exile, why Judah must come to terms with what
has happened to them. Jeremiah knows God wants Judah to turn and repent for turning away from
God but the people do not listen to Jeremiah. When the people finally listen to Jeremiah they are
already in exile in Babylonia. Jeremiah must send letters to proclaim God s Word to them.
Jeremiah was one of those who were left behind in Judah. Jeremiah was left behind seeing the
destruction of Jeremiah s homeland first hand. Jeremiah has been deemed the weeping prophet
because of Jeremiah s deep care and love for the people of Judah and for God. Jeremiah feels not
only the grief God experiences for having to destroy the people but Jeremiah feels the grief of
the people being destroyed. Jeremiah weeps in chapter 9 because Jeremiah knows what is
coming. But on the other hand, Jeremiah wanted to see the truth of God s reality come to
fruition because Jeremiah knew of God s great love for God s people. The ethos Jeremiah uses in
the prophetic word Jeremiah speaks is genuine and in no way false as the words of the false
prophet, Hananiah when Hananiah spoke saying the exile would only last two years (Jer

The Birth Order Of A Child
In the order of which you are born are so important in some families. In some cultures, the most
important order to be in for a child was to be the oldest. Being the oldest, you could be first for the
throne or first as a prince or princess. Different spots of birth order create certain differences
between children belonging to this or that spot inside the family. These differences show why
siblings are not alike. The term siblings are used to identify children who are brothers and sisters
coming from that same mom and dad. The commonly known words sibling rivalry may be
understood as a phenomenon caused directly by the order in which you were born in. From the
research of Alfred Adler, the birth orderof a child is the predictor of his future characteristics. Adler
said that, the firstborn children are dethroned when the next child comes along and that they
may never recover from that. Adler believed that the true reason for the differences between
siblings is the desire to be different and have different characteristics, to be individual and not
compared to their other sibling, and to stand out from the crowd of other children. Siblings
ranging in age are always competing for the love of the mom and dad. Also, the oldest and the
youngest always seem to have to fight for power over one another to gain control of the situation.
I m the oldest, so I m going to be in charge! Or you hear the youngest one say, I m going tell mom

Masseter Muscle Research Paper
Masseter Muscle
The masseter muscle is a thick, strong muscle that functions as one of the major muscles of
mastication (2,8). The muscle arises from the zygomatic arch and zygomatic bone and inserts
inferiorly on the external surface of the ramus of the mandible. The masseter has superficial and
deep heads. The superficial head travels distally and posteriorly, attaching near the angle of the
mandible. The smaller deep head inserts to the upper region of the ramus of the mandible (2).
The masseter is a powerful elevator of the mandible and provides the force necessary to chew
efficiently. The primary function of the masseter, therefore, is to develop large forces between the
molars for effective grinding and crushing of food (8). As the ... Show more content on

The deeper head arises from the medial surface of the lateral pterygoid plate of the sphenoid bone.
The smaller superficial head originates from a region of the tuberosity of the maxilla just above the

angle. Bilateral contraction of the medial pterygoid produces elevation and protrusion of the
mandible, while unilateral contraction produces contralateral excursion (8). Along with the
masseter muscle, it forms a muscular sling that supports the mandible at the mandibular angle.
Simultaneous contractions of these muscles can exert a powerful biting force that is directed

Story Of An Hour Disillusionment Essay
Disillusionment is the feeling of disappointment resulting from the discovery that something is not
as good as one believed it to be. The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin and Hills like White
Elephants by Ernest Hemingway are both short stories of woman protagonists in oppressed
relationships. In one of the stories, the womanrealizes the oppression in her marriage. While in the
other story, the protagonist is facing towards the oppression. A woman can be oppressed in a
marriage in many different ways, such as not having their own independence. In The Story of an

Post-colonialism in The Hunger Games
The success of the books, The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins, is remarkable
considering that the storyline is of a game in which children kill each other. The books have
reached iconic status in America and is an anomaly in the Young Adult Literature genre in that it
has a female protagonist yet is popular with male and female readers of all ages. Collins wrote
the series in response to her fears of the blurred lines between Reality Shows and televised news
events (Blasingame 726). The dystopian world portrayed in the book is rife with Post colonial
themes. There are many opinions about the proper definition of Post colonialismeven going so far
as to argue about whether the prefix post should be added to the word Colonialism. For the sake
of clarity, I will use the term Post colonialism as it is broadly defined in Post colonial Studies:
The Key Concepts, the effects of colonization on cultures and societies (Ashcroft, Griffiths and
Tiffin 186). Many critics such as Bhaba, Spivak and Said define this critical theory as
predominately characterized by race; however there are other critics, such as Jessica Langer, who
believe that the injustices perpetrated by colonialism, in all its forms (152) should be considered in
Post colonial studies. I will argue that the Post colonial concepts of Hybridity, Othering and
Imperialism go beyond racial barriers and reverberate throughout the The Hunger Games.
The novel tells the story of a future in which North America has

Aspirin Synthesis Lab Report
The goal of this lab is to convert the salicylic acid into acetylsalicylic acid(aspirin) using different
experimental techniques. These include recrystallization (purification), vacuum filtration
(isolation), and melting point determination (characterization). After the melting point and a fair
ferric chloride test was performed to test for the purity of the aspirin. The overall result was that the
aspirin was light purple and the other vile dark purple. This showed that it was slightly impure.

The solution was made up of salicylic acid, concentrated sulfuric acid, acetic anhydride, and
ethanol. The compounds that were prevalent in the last stage was acetylsalicylic acid, trace
amounts of salicylic acid, and acetic anhydride. The reason that these are left is because
salicylic acid acts as a catalyst for the whole reaction. It is there in the beginning, part of it
becomes acetylsalicylic acid, and then the rest is left over at the end. The acetic anhydride latches
on the salicylic acid where the OH was bonded replacing the H. This then becomes acetylsalicylic
acid and the H was bonded to the acetic acid. So to say that acetylsalicylic acid is less soluble than
salicylic acid during recrystallization is fair because of the switch between groups. Thus making
salicylic acid to be the catalyst. The place in my procedure where I lost a lot of my product was
most likely when I heated the solution a second time with ethanol. I added to much distilled water
which made some complications during the ferric chloride test. If I had a second go, I would add
less distilled water and let the solution sit for longer than I let it. The solution was undisturbed but I
jumped the gun in putting it in the ice bath. This then caused my solution to not completely solidify
but was solid enough to filter.

Communication functionality is an electronic health record system creates and harbors an
atmosphere of open communication. Everyone in an outpatient clinic manages patients. EHRs help
manage not only communication between staff but also patient communication. EHRs can help
manage communication of incoming patients, or follow ups. Electronic health records should not
replace face to face communication between staff members and patients. Electronic health record
systems should improve and add value to staff and patient communication. By improving patient
communication using EHRs, claims and billing would be improved. Taking the guesswork out of

Busch Inbev Merger
In May of 2016, The European Commission signed off on Anheuser Busch InBev s more than
$100 billion merger with SABMiller after the companies agreed to sell SABMiller s premium
brands in Europe and some other European operations (Bray). The merging of SABMiller and
AB Inbev create the worlds largest beer company accounting for approximately 30% of beer
industry sales (Bray). Margrethe Vestager, the commissioner in charge of European competition
policy defended the decision to allow the merger to go through by stating Today s decision will
ensure that competition is not weakened in these markets and that E.U. consumers are not worse
off....Europeans buy around 125 billion euros of beer every year, so even a relatively small price
increase could cause considerable harm to consumers (Bray).
The European Commission believed that allowing the merger was in the best interest of both
consumers and for the beer market itself. I wholeheartedly disagree with that decision.
Consolidating firms only decreases competition. John Colley, associate dean at Warwick Business
School agrees, Generally speaking, as industries consolidate down to fewer players, prices increase
because there is less competition... You tend to end up with less choice of products too (Thomas).
There are four major European beer brewers and with this merger two of the largest are now
consolidated. The consolidation significantly increased the number of national markets where the

Whether this pride is in yourself, or in a larger form, it is a fuel that keeps us moving and

The Pros and Cons of Profiling by Law Enforcement Essay
Introduction With the society that most individuals are offered today, the world of crime has been
constantly transforming. This can influence the typical individual to question if there are too many
laws that one should follow, including the penalties that are to be expected. The word crime can
insinuate many thoughts of apprehension, segregation, and security when applying the law in

Throughout the years, profiling has been successful at seeking out justice by detaining many
wanted criminals, and has set the bar for many years of criminal apprehensions in many

indication can reveal that the most important part for analysis is to further examine how patterns of
criminal involvement emerges and transforms; this would also include examining the modus
operandi (method of operation) of criminals that are relevant not only for the criminal structures,
but for the general public as well (Ford, 2013). For instance, an individual who acquires many
tattoos, dresses in black clothing, and physically possesses threatening features would suggest to
society that this individual would be of criminal participation, and a menace to civilization. In
addition, an individual that has been born and raised in the ghetto may comprehend a way of
successful living is through doing what is necessary to get by, instead of making a prodigious
model for society. This can be comprised of drug dealing, violent interactions, and utilizing
threatening acts to achieve credibility and acceptance in life. When it comes to the awareness of
suspect profiling, most individuals are assumed to be classified based upon ethnicity, monetary

Issues of Abortion
Abortion has became a big issue in not just the US but in pretty much everywhere
else around the globe. To some people it is a sin to do but to others they might have a
good reason to go through it but it can be just an easy way out of going through
pregnancy and raising a child. Abortion should only be legal under certain circumstances
by applying equality amongst the fetus and the mother without giving more rights to
either for example if the mother was raped ,while possibly being underage as well, if
something is wrong with her like if she was in danger of dying , or if something is wrong
with the fetus like a sever disease then the mother should have a saying if she wants to
have an abortion but if none of those reasons apply then the woman should go through
the pregnancy if it doesn t harm her.
The main problem with abortion is the fact that it has to do with a person s life
being taken away. Also there is religious reasons and religious people that are concerned
with the issue because a lot of religions do not comply with abortion being legal.
sometimes women do not want to have a or the child because they just don t care or want
to deal with the pressure of taking care or going through the pregnancy and maybe being
an under aged teenager. pro life supporters always do have to question why is this legal
but there is of course the people who support

How Did James Madison Influence The Constitution
The fourth president of the United States of America was James Madison Jr., He was one of the
signers of the United States Constitution. The U.S Constitution is a document of basic rights for

These three branches were the Legislative, Executive, and the Judicial branches. Along with a

Miscegenation In Othello Essay
In verifying how these attitudes pervade the play itself, Newman points out that fear of
miscegenation functions on two levels. Firstly Shakespeare uses the white man s fear of the union
of black man and white women (144) to generate the plot, and secondly through the binary
opposition of black and white characteristic of the plays discourse. To substantiate she quotes from
the play: Black ram tups white ewe and O, the more angel she, And you the blacker devil. The last
line illustrates what Newman terms rhetorical miscegenation. Outlining the frequency with which
black and white were used to denote polarization during the Renaissance, (145) she comments on
how the emphasis in Othello of Desdemona as the idealisation of fair female... Show more content

In addition, by her own account, her reading is also political in that it exposes the ideological
discourses which organise the text. She comments that poststructuralist approaches highlight that
even highly formalist readings are political, inscribed in the discourses both of the period in
which the work was produced and of those in which it is consumed. Newman references Derrida
s work on racism and in addition to employing deconstructionist discourse his influence can be
seen in Newman s design. Recognizing the binary opposition denoted by the polarization of
Othello s blackness and Desdemona s whiteness , Newman develops this to assimilate the implied
opposition of monstrosity or miscegenation represented by Othello and femininity represented by
Desdemona. Deconstructive discourse incorporates the notion that difference exists both between
signified and signifier, and at the same time that the signified defers meaning to the signifier. The
role of the literary critic is seen as seeking a slippage in the text, thereby denoting duplicity and
revealing how the internal linguistic and thematic rules are inexact. Newman finds this critical
slippage in both Rymers Short view of Tragedy (1693) and again in Ridley s criticism 250yrs later,
to be the lapse from blackness to femininity.

Sidney Lumet s Fail Safe
Events in American history are often distorted and misunderstood, which lead people to wonder
about the justness of the international confrontation. The American public is one of the major
driving forces during war times and without their support, the tide of the war can change drastically.
Sidney Lumet directed the movie Fail Safe, which has multiple instances where a verdict to act,
despite the prewar conditions, was hard to delineate between a just and unjust judgement. Of all the
instances in the movie, the decisions made compelled the viewer to question the ideas the political
leaders were making, just or unjust. Further, leaders caused the viewer to wonder what they were
truly fighting for. The justness of multiple decisions in the movie were brought into question

Just War Theory divides the morality of war into two parts. A war can be tried twice, first
pertaining to why the nation decides to go to war, and secondly with how the nation actions are
during the fighting (Walzer 21). The first part of war called jus ad bellem, translated to the
justice of war, provides strict guiding principles with whether the war is just or unjust in the
intentions of going to war. The second part of war jus in bello correlates to appropriate conduct
while in war (Cook 27). Being just in jus ad bellum does not necessarily mean that jus in bello is

In political races in the United States logical fallacies are a staple in political ads. The 2012
election was no exception to this convention, especially being true in an advertisement with ex steel
plant worker Joe Soptic, speaking in Obama affiliated Political Action Committee Priorities. The
advertisement included many logical fallacies to argue against the Romney campaign. Those
include post hoc reasoning, ad hominem, and slippery slope.

speaking against Mitt Romney. He personally points blame on Romney for the death of his wife.

In addition there was a caption in the video short after the previous statement by Soptic, claiming
that Mitt Romney and Bain Capital made millions for themselves and then closed the plant. This is
implying that Romney and Bain Capital are greedy. This has no relation to the topic of Romney s
political views and is merely an attack on character. Furthermore the advertisement ends with Soptic
stating that he does not think that Mitt Romney is concerned about the well being of workers of the
plant.
The last piece of logical fallacy that is present in the advertisement of 2012 is slippery slope. This
is when it is asserted that one event will inevitably be followed another with question or argument.
Slippery slope is implied in this advertisement in the way that if Romney is in charge, he will shut
down businesses, which will disable people to receive health insurance, which will cause many
deaths. This is improbable in the way that one event does not necessarily cause the other and
predominantly, is highly unlikely.

of Feed are trained not as citizens but as consumers, while shadowy political forces seek to
undermine the corrupt world of the novel. In effect, then, the dystopian setting of feed is a state
of emptiness where the young are offered consumerism as a substitute for participation in
citizenship (Braddford 129). It is like today s new generations that are constantly on their phones;
people cannot live without them. Author Anne Marrie Hacht describes, [I]n Feed, he turns his

Formalism And Realism In Film

photographic composition, camera movement, set design, editing, etc. to that end. The realist
approach scrutinizes how a film represents reality. It is a mechanical reproduction of reality that
strives for objectivity and realism. The primary focus is always every day, true to life characters
and dilemmas, and the real life situations they are found in. Commonplace themes are the rule. To
achieve realism in cinema it was necessary to direct attention to the physical and philosophic
problems of ordinary existence. People emerge as victims of forces beyond their control in a world
at times seemingly spinning out of control. Although there are also a few similarities, formalism
and realism can be shown to offer substantially different approaches to the art of filmmaking and the
study of film. Realism is a style of filmmaking that attempts to duplicate the look of objective reality
with emphasis on authentic locations and details, long shots, lengthy takes, and a minimum of
distortion. Andre Bazin championed cinematic realism. He identifies Realism as a movement of

Music In American Schools
For most American children, music class was considered one of the most exciting times of the
school day. Music class was treated as a break from the normal curriculum of reading, math,
science, and social studies. Music has been included in most American schools for several decades.
However, due to budget cuts, our schooldistrict is eliminating the musicprogram for the next school
year. I feel that cutting extracurricular activities, such as sports and music, would be detrimental to
our students.
Students who are exposed to music develop many skills that can be used in their daily lives.
Some of these skills include self discipline, teamwork, and building self esteem. Music can also be
a great outlet for creativity and self expression. Among these acquired skills, one of the most
important is the development of self discipline. This skill can be seen in the student as they develop

Whether it is choir or band, the student learns the importance of being a reliable member of a
group. They learn the importance of being a team player because the other members of the
ensemble rely on them to be at every rehearsal and performance. Music has also been shown to
increase a student s skills at problem solving and analysis. Many studies have shown that learning
to read music or play a musical instrument can lead to the development of a person s higher thinking
skills. Reading music uses the mathematical portion of the brain. In fact, many musicians also excel
at math.
For the student that does not excel at academics, music can be the one bright spot in their day.
While a student could be struggling with their academic studies, he or she may excel at music.
This could be the student s chance to shine on a solo with the choir or orchestra for his or her
school. This solo can be the only way that the student receives praise and recognition from others in
their school or

Carlsbad Case
City of Carlsbad Case Analysis
Issues: The City of Carlsbad, CA is home to 75,000 oceanfront residents. After emerging from the
worst recession in the history of the city 1995, robust changes to the structure of the city was in
order. Therefore, under the leadership of the city manager, Carlsbad began the reengineering
process, which included revising the city s mission and values statements, applying new information
systems, and rearranging the city s numerous departments into five groups, called the major service
areas (MSAs). Cummings and Worley indicated that the internal and external stakeholders viewed
the changes positively and believed that they had improved customer focus and employee
commitment (p.433). Conversely, while consulting with an OD consultant, the City of Carlsbad
was made aware within the Public Works Department, the data indicated that there was an
assortment of problems that made the city less efficient. This included overlapping roles and
equipment, general discretion for each department, and the lack of goals.

According to Cummings and Worley (2015), an organization must clarify their strategy in order to
have a successful downsizing intervention. Therefore, employers or management should engage
employees through participation and empowerment. Given that employees already had their
reservations about the change, it is imperative to ask employees for feedback. In addition,
employers should educate their employees what the processes are for other departments so that
cohesiveness can span across departments (Cummings Worley,

to the tenant, duty not to interfere with quiet enjoyment, and a duty to ensure the house is in an
habitable condition. The landlord should deliver the house to the tenant at the beginning of the lease
. This burden is placed on the landlord because he has more resources over the house than the new
tenant. The landlord should not interfere with the tenants right over the house during the period of
the lease. Additionally, the landlord should ensure that the house is free from any serious defects

something or in the alternative vacate the house. The most common cause of eviction is failure to
pay rent. This kind of eviction requires a three day notice to pay the rent or vacate. The tenant
can pay the rent before the lapse of the three days to avoid eviction. The tenant must have
defaulted payment in order to serve the notice. The tenant can also be evicted for failure to
comply or a violation of the tenant agreement. The notice period of this type of eviction is three
days and the tenant must comply with the relevant section of the tenant agreement. The tenant
can also be evicted for waste nuisance or illegal activity. The three day notice for this type of
eviction requires the tenant to have caused substantial destruction of the house, involved in
illegal activities or an arrest on the property. This notice does not give the tenant the option to
comply but requires the tenant to vacate before the end of the notice period. There is also the 30
day notice for the termination of tenancy agreement. In this case, Larry does not have grounds to

The Differences Between Mars And Earth
The atmosphere is defined as the envelope of gases surrounding the Earth or another planet
(Dictionary, 2017). The atmosphere is necessary for human life and without it, human life would
not be sustained. It acts as a protective shield that keeps the Earth warm. Not only does it act as a
protective shield however, it also protects all living things on Earth from the suns extremely
damaging ultraviolet radiation. In addition to this, the atmosphere provides oxygenfor both human
and animals to breathe, and it provides carbon dioxide for plants. Without the atmosphere, life
would not be sustained among all living things (Earth Rice, 2017).
Much to common disbelief, Mars and Earth have many things in common. Some of these factors
include similarities in size, inclination, structure, composition and the presence of water on their
surfaces (Universe Today, 2016). Mars is the next closest planet to Earth. It withholds all
necessary elements needed for life to exist. These include water, carbon dioxide (COв‚‚) and
nitrogen (HowStuffWorks, 2017). There are also unbelievable similarities between Mars
atmosphere and the Earth s atmosphere from billions of years ago. Like Mars, when the Earth
was first formed it had no oxygen and its atmosphere was comprised of carbon dioxide and
nitrogen. Earth was not able to produce oxygen until photosynthetic bacteria developed
(HowStuffWorks, 2017). Mars atmosphere consists of 95.3% carbon dioxide, 2.7% nitrogen, 1.6%
argon and 0.2% oxygen.

Teaching Assistant Reflection
In my third year at SBU I became a teaching assistant (TA) for the biology lab courses. Every
week a graduate TA (GTA) and I held a 3 hour lab course with 24 students. Alternating roles with
the GTA, one week I would introduce the topic of the lab and the next week I would prepare the
tools and reagents while checking assignments. Afterwards, the GTA and I would patrol the room
to ensure every student was on track to finish while answering questions. I prepared for every lab
by attending a 3 hour course where the TAs completed the lab and reviewed any questions the
students might have. Outside of the lab I helped proctor exams and spent one hour weekly in the
learning center to help students.

Essay On Doctor Faustus
Ironically, there was a direct correlation between Faustus using his blood to sign over his soul to
Lucifer and the blood Christ as a symbol of salvation. Faustus to use his blood by the request of
Mephastophilis to symbolized his true commitment to sin. However, due to a strange twist of faith,
his blood began to coagulate. Doctor Faustus voice of reason enters into existence causing him to
second guess his decision. His actions gave the perception he may actually change his mind,
however those thought were short lived. It was with in Doctor Faustus belief system that he had
total control over his soul and he declares Why should st thou not? Is not they soul thine

Medieval Religion beliefs are centered on the notion all sins are forgiven with exception in
Doctor Faustus case; primarily, due to his corrupted spirit and self denial to fall under the
graciousness of God. His conscience was at the forefront of his decision to practice black magic
guiding him toward sin; even though he knew it was wrong. (McCloskey 111)
Doctor Faustus seemed as if selling his soul was a small price to pay to gain authority over
others. In contrast, he failed to realize that Lucifer bought his soul at four twenty years and
condemned to hell for eternity. McCloskey acknowledged that, Yet the prize for which he has sold
his body and soul to the devil seems puny besides the cost. (McCloskey 111) When in fact, God
would have offered him forever grace free of charge. It was quite possible Doctor Faustus could not
ever image the power of God s grace. There was only one way he could have survived the grips of
Lucifer, which would have been to repent. However, he chose the path of disparity causing his
own demise. It is the sin of despair which effects the catastrophe (McCloskey 112)
In contrast to Doctor Faustus disparity he was revealed as a man who embraced the Renaissance
spirit. This was a time that alternative lifestyles were emerging, the arts were flourishing and there
was an awakening or reformation of religion. It was not a coincidence Faustus gravitated to his
new religion called black magic. However, his

The Pearl Of The World
A pearl is conventionally associated with wealth and prosperity. Like a philosopher s stone, the
pearl is believed to convert sorrows into happiness. Kino, a pearl diver and his wife, Juana, along

that he can rise above his poverty and procure a better life for his son. Kino s newfound
motivation to ameliorate his family s conditions alienates him from others including his wife.
Driven by the new Song of Evil (p5) and the music of the enemy, (p5) Kino finds himself making
extraordinary sacrifices to attain tangible wealth. Juana, because of her strong instincts, senses
the evil vibes coming off of the pearl and concludes that it is like sin (p38) and that it will
destroy (p38) them. Kino, however, is oblivious to the pearl s negative effect as he assumes the
pearl to be their only chance. (p38) Social structures such as the family, the village, and the town
are central to the pearl. However, the central unit, for Kino and Juana is their family. They make
sacrifices for each other and their son Coyotito. Kino and Juana s dedication towards their son
Coyotito is most evident through their wish for him to go to school (p25) and break out of the
pot that holds (p39) them in. Although Kino s family life is threatened upon the discovery of the
pearl, much of its damage is caused by the individualistic greed of the people surrounding them.

The Period of Enlightened Absolutism in Europe
The period of enlightened absolutism across all of Europe revealed a significant change in the
processes and objectives of rulers during this time period. The great philosopher, Machiavelli,
approached the reason that a ruler should present two qualities in order to drive a successful
community. A ruler needed to behave both like a lion and like a fox he believed. These two traits
can be seen clearly in two foremost rulers during this time period. Catherine the Great of Russia
and Elizabeth I of Englandhad clearly fulfilled the suggestion made by Machiavelli. These two
iconic rulers met the proposition made by Machiavelli by enforcing both aggressive, but yet clever
procedures against other countries and the poor in order to create a better country for themselves.
Catherine the Great had a very strong powerful army that she used to her advantage to expand her
empire while Elizabeth I avoided the wars and went behind the back to attack Spanish armadas. Sir
Francis Drake was an English Sea Captain who had undertaken a major voyage against Spanish
ports and ships to the Caribbean in 1585 and 1586, and in 1587 had made a successful raid on
Cadiz, destroying the Spanish fleet of war ships. It is seen here that Elizabeth I avoided the war
and hired Francis Drake to take over. Furious with this, Philip II had decided to take the war to
England. England defeated Spain greatly and sent them back home. Elizabeth was invited to give a
speech to her troops. She said, My loving

Use Of Illusion And Hide Reality Plays A Heavy Role On...
The use of illusion to hide reality plays a heavy role in William Shakespeare s Othello . Illusion is
used frequently throughout the play in relation to love, friendship and character personalities. Some
characters, especially Othello, cannot see through the illusion and assume what they see as reality.
Iago, however, uses this to his advantage by creating multiple illusions to manipulate the other
characters for power and revenge.
Iago is seen by most of the characters as an honest and trustworthy man who is always willing to
listen and give advice. Cassio, one of the characters who is fooled by the illusionary personality
Iago has created, says I never knew/ a Florentine more kind and honest (III.i.38 39). The audience
however knows that this is not the case, since at the beginning he says I am not what I am (I.i.62),
meaning that he has created an illusion of himself to fool others into believing he is trustworthy.
Iago states I follow him to serve my turn upon him (I.i.39), meaning that he only pretends to be
loyal to Othello, acting as a good servant so that when the opportunity arises, Othello will not
suspect him of sabotaging his marriage. Throughout the entire play, he pretends to be Othello s
friend, feigning reluctance in voicing his suspicions about an affair between Desdemona and Cassio.
He gains Othello s trust by being a good friend who is honest enough to tell him such horrible
news. Iago creates the illusion of the affair by filling Othello s mind

  • 3. Cooperative Learning Reflection Following our presentation of why cooperative learning benefits students in mathematics, we hoped the class would be able to distinguish the differences between direct learning environments from cooperative learning. Additionally, we hoped the class would understand how all students become active participants in their learning through cooperative learning and receive higher academic success. Lastly, it was a goal of ours that the class recognized the acquired skills students gain from cooperative learning and why it should be incorporated in their futureclassroom. Overall our mini lesson went smooth, but we for sure had a few bumps throughout the presentation. We successfully presented the benefits of cooperative learning and how achievement scores are higher in mathematics when this approach is taken. However, we struggled with application to the real world and how we as future educators should implement cooperative learning into our classrooms. Content wise our group did a strong job focusing on distinguishing the differences in two different classroom approaches, such as direct learning versus cooperative learning. Through multiple research studies we were able to express to the class the benefits students receive when actively engaged in a cooperative learning environment. We used the textbook definition for cooperative learning and an in class presentation to define direct learning, which helped assist the class in understanding the differences, especially because ... Performance management consists of a cycle of interrelated activities. The first stage of the cycle is the clarification of expectations. This stage focuses on the setting of the goals and standards of the evaluation of performance that are both attainable and realistic according to the capabilities of the employee. • 9. Analysis Of Overprotected Kid By Hanna Rosin Play Project In the article of the Overprotected Kid written by Hanna Rosin, gives some informational stuff to think back on and all the way to present time. The article gives you something to think about especially with playgrounds and world around us. One that amazed me was about how everything seemed so creative back in the day. They would use stuff as play items that I never even imaged would be fun. Such as stated in the article, doing mad flips on a stack of filthy mattresses, which makes a fine trampoline. At the other end of the playground, a dozen or so of the younger kids dart in and out of large structures made up of wooden pallets stacked on top of one another. Reading this part, I was like wow for people that left stuff laying around got kids make a use out of it. I think it s significant because children are having fun using materials and their imagination. Another thing is kids got excited when things were donated as stated in the quote kids seem excited by a walker that was donated by one of the elderly neighbors and is repurposed, at different moments, as a scooter, a jail cell, and a gymnastics bar. The second one being fire lit in the playground. It s been shown to have a lot of benefits of fun. In London after World War 2 stated that Children who might grow up to fight wars were not shielded from danger. In America seeing a video of kids playing around fire brought major shock to parents because, of how unnormal it is in our country. First ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scholars of historical Realism still see the state as an agent that attempts to farther its self interest; however, they also are interested in the historical factors, which affect the state decision in pursuing its goals in relations to other states. Thus, we can see that the realist prospective emphasizes the role of the state as the supreme power, ignoring the role of other actors, such as international organizations and multinational corporations. By that logic, states seek to gain power; wealth is a tool to gain that power, it is not an end by itself; and economic interest will change with the change of the position of the state within the international sphere. After leaving the decimated city of Atlanta on November 16, Sherman led his troops on a destructive campaign which concluded with the capture of the port city of Savannah on December 21. It is known for its boldness as well as the sheer destruction inflicted on the south, both to its industry as well as military targets, effectively destroying the Confederate s capacity to wage war. Efforts to forestall Sherman s operations in central Georgia began in late September 1864, when President Jefferson Davis personally visited the threatened front. On September 25 he reached Palmetto, Ga., some 25 miles southwest of enemy occupied Atlanta. Palmetto was then headquarters for General John B. Hood, commanding the Confederate Army of Tennessee. Just two months earlier Davis had bumped Hood up the seniority ladder to take over the army after General Joseph E. Johnston had failed to stop Sherman s march from Chattanooga to the outskirts of Atlanta. Hood quickly launched a series of fierce offensive strikes at the Union forces enfolding the city. None succeeded in halting the enemy, however, and Atlanta was abandoned on September 1. Hood did have another plan, which, considering his situation, was about as good as could be expected. ... Being the oldest, you could be first for the throne or first as a prince or princess. Different spots of birth order create certain differences between children belonging to this or that spot inside the family. These differences show why siblings are not alike. The term siblings are used to identify children who are brothers and sisters coming from that same mom and dad. The commonly known words sibling rivalry may be understood as a phenomenon caused directly by the order in which you were born in. From the research of Alfred Adler, the birth orderof a child is the predictor of his future characteristics. Adler said that, the firstborn children are dethroned when the next child comes along and that they may never recover from that. Adler believed that the true reason for the differences between siblings is the desire to be different and have different characteristics, to be individual and not compared to their other sibling, and to stand out from the crowd of other children. Siblings ranging in age are always competing for the love of the mom and dad. Also, the oldest and the youngest always seem to have to fight for power over one another to gain control of the situation. I m the oldest, so I m going to be in charge! The solution was made up of salicylic acid, concentrated sulfuric acid, acetic anhydride, and ethanol. The compounds that were prevalent in the last stage was acetylsalicylic acid, trace amounts of salicylic acid, and acetic anhydride. The reason that these are left is because salicylic acid acts as a catalyst for the whole reaction. It is there in the beginning, part of it becomes acetylsalicylic acid, and then the rest is left over at the end. The acetic anhydride latches on the salicylic acid where the OH was bonded replacing the H. This then becomes acetylsalicylic acid and the H was bonded to the acetic acid. So to say that acetylsalicylic acid is less soluble than salicylic acid during recrystallization is fair because of the switch between groups. Thus making salicylic acid to be the catalyst. The place in my procedure where I lost a lot of my product was most likely when I heated the solution a second time with ethanol. I added to much distilled water which made some complications during the ferric chloride test. If I had a second go, I would add less distilled water and let the solution sit for longer than I let it. The solution was undisturbed but I jumped the gun in putting it in the ice bath. Busch Inbev Merger In May of 2016, The European Commission signed off on Anheuser Busch InBev s more than $100 billion merger with SABMiller after the companies agreed to sell SABMiller s premium brands in Europe and some other European operations (Bray). The merging of SABMiller and AB Inbev create the worlds largest beer company accounting for approximately 30% of beer industry sales (Bray). Margrethe Vestager, the commissioner in charge of European competition policy defended the decision to allow the merger to go through by stating Today s decision will ensure that competition is not weakened in these markets and that E.U. consumers are not worse off....Europeans buy around 125 billion euros of beer every year, so even a relatively small price increase could cause considerable harm to consumers (Bray). The European Commission believed that allowing the merger was in the best interest of both consumers and for the beer market itself. I wholeheartedly disagree with that decision. Consolidating firms only decreases competition. John Colley, associate dean at Warwick Business School agrees, Generally speaking, as industries consolidate down to fewer players, prices increase because there is less competition... You tend to end up with less choice of products too (Thomas). There are four major European beer brewers and with this merger two of the largest are now consolidated. • 38. Miscegenation In Othello Essay In verifying how these attitudes pervade the play itself, Newman points out that fear of miscegenation functions on two levels. Firstly Shakespeare uses the white man s fear of the union of black man and white women (144) to generate the plot, and secondly through the binary opposition of black and white characteristic of the plays discourse. To substantiate she quotes from the play: Black ram tups white ewe and O, the more angel she, And you the blacker devil. The last line illustrates what Newman terms rhetorical miscegenation. Outlining the frequency with which black and white were used to denote polarization during the Renaissance, (145) she comments on how the emphasis in Othello of Desdemona as the idealisation of fair female... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, by her own account, her reading is also political in that it exposes the ideological discourses which organise the text. She comments that poststructuralist approaches highlight that even highly formalist readings are political, inscribed in the discourses both of the period in which the work was produced and of those in which it is consumed. Newman references Derrida s work on racism and in addition to employing deconstructionist discourse his influence can be seen in Newman s design. Recognizing the binary opposition denoted by the polarization of Othello s blackness and Desdemona s whiteness , Newman develops this to assimilate the implied opposition of monstrosity or miscegenation represented by Othello and femininity represented by Desdemona. Deconstructive discourse incorporates the notion that difference exists both between signified and signifier, and at the same time that the signified defers meaning to the signifier. The role of the literary critic is seen as seeking a slippage in the text, thereby denoting duplicity and revealing how the internal linguistic and thematic rules are inexact. Newman finds this critical slippage in both Rymers Short view of Tragedy (1693) and again in Ridley s criticism 250yrs later, to be the lapse from blackness to femininity. ... The American public is one of the major driving forces during war times and without their support, the tide of the war can change drastically. Sidney Lumet directed the movie Fail Safe, which has multiple instances where a verdict to act, despite the prewar conditions, was hard to delineate between a just and unjust judgement. Of all the instances in the movie, the decisions made compelled the viewer to question the ideas the political leaders were making, just or unjust. • 42. Formalism And Realism In Film Short Critical Essay #3 Option 2 Classical film theories are generally divided into two main camps. They have been categorized as Formalism and Realism. The formalist approach looks at the structure and form of the film. It analyzes the method by which the story materializes and how it forces the viewer to react based on the way it is presented. It incorporates character development, photographic composition, camera movement, set design, editing, etc. to that end. The realist approach scrutinizes how a film represents reality. It is a mechanical reproduction of reality that strives for objectivity and realism. The primary focus is always every day, true to life characters and dilemmas, and the real life situations they are found in. Commonplace themes are the rule. To achieve realism in cinema it was necessary to direct attention to the physical and philosophic problems of ordinary existence. People emerge as victims of forces beyond their control in a world at times seemingly spinning out of control. Although there are also a few similarities, formalism and realism can be shown to offer substantially different approaches to the art of filmmaking and the study of film. Realism is a style of filmmaking that attempts to duplicate the look of objective reality with emphasis on authentic locations and details, long shots, lengthy takes, and a minimum of distortion. Andre Bazin championed cinematic realism. He identifies Realism as a movement of filmmakers who put their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The atmosphere is necessary for human life and without it, human life would not be sustained. It acts as a protective shield that keeps the Earth warm. Not only does it act as a protective shield however, it also protects all living things on Earth from the suns extremely damaging ultraviolet radiation. In addition to this, the atmosphere provides oxygenfor both human and animals to breathe, and it provides carbon dioxide for plants. Without the atmosphere, life would not be sustained among all living things (Earth Rice, 2017). Much to common disbelief, Mars and Earth have many things in common. • 54. The Period of Enlightened Absolutism in Europe The period of enlightened absolutism across all of Europe revealed a significant change in the processes and objectives of rulers during this time period. The great philosopher, Machiavelli, approached the reason that a ruler should present two qualities in order to drive a successful community. A ruler needed to behave both like a lion and like a fox he believed. These two traits can be seen clearly in two foremost rulers during this time period. Catherine the Great of Russia and Elizabeth I of Englandhad clearly fulfilled the suggestion made by Machiavelli. These two iconic rulers met the proposition made by Machiavelli by enforcing both aggressive, but yet clever procedures against other countries and the poor in order to create a better country for themselves. Catherine the Great had a very strong powerful army that she used to her advantage to expand her empire while Elizabeth I avoided the wars and went behind the back to attack Spanish armadas. Sir Francis Drake was an English Sea Captain who had undertaken a major voyage against Spanish ports and ships to the Caribbean in 1585 and 1586, and in 1587 had made a successful raid on Cadiz, destroying the Spanish fleet of war ships. It is seen here that Elizabeth I avoided the war and hired Francis Drake to take over. Furious with this, Philip II had decided to take the war to England. England defeated Spain greatly and sent them back home. Elizabeth was invited to give a speech to her troops. She said, My loving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. Use Of Illusion And Hide Reality Plays A Heavy Role On... The use of illusion to hide reality plays a heavy role in William Shakespeare s Othello . Illusion is used frequently throughout the play in relation to love, friendship and character personalities. Some characters, especially Othello, cannot see through the illusion and assume what they see as reality. Iago, however, uses this to his advantage by creating multiple illusions to manipulate the other characters for power and revenge. Iago is seen by most of the characters as an honest and trustworthy man who is always willing to listen and give advice. Cassio, one of the characters who is fooled by the illusionary personality Iago has created, says I never knew/ a Florentine more kind and honest (III.i.38 39). The audience however knows that this is not the case, since at the beginning he says I am not what I am (I.i.62), meaning that he has created an illusion of himself to fool others into believing he is trustworthy. Iago states I follow him to serve my turn upon him (I.i.39), meaning that he only pretends to be loyal to Othello, acting as a good servant so that when the opportunity arises, Othello will not suspect him of sabotaging his marriage. Throughout the entire play, he pretends to be Othello s friend, feigning reluctance in voicing his suspicions about an affair between Desdemona and Cassio. He gains Othello s trust by being a good friend who is honest enough to tell him such horrible news. Iago creates the illusion of the affair by filling Othello s mind ...
