3. What is color Doppler
Ultrasounds?
Ultrasound, also called sonography or ultrasonography, is a
noninvasive imaging test. A standard ultrasound produces
images, but it doesn’t show blood flow like a Doppler
ultrasound.
4. Color Doppler: A computer changes the sound
waves into diffferent colors to show the
direction of blood flow.
10. Color Doppler ultrasound usually
includes the following steps:
√ Lie on a table, expose the area of patients'
body that's being tested.
√ Spread the gel on the skin over that area.
√ Move the transducer, over the area.
11. √ The device sends sound waves into the
body.
√ The movement of blood cells causes a
change in the pitch of the sound waves.
√ The waves are recorded and turned into
images or graphs on a monitor.
√ The test takes about 30-60 minutes to
complete.
12. Risks to the test
There are no known risks to having a Doppler
ultrasound. It is also considered safe during
pregnancy.
17. Advantage of color Doppler imaging
⚫ Color Doppler imaging allows better
visualization of the proximal and distal
segments of the vertebral arteries,
compared to conventional duplex
ultrasonography.
18. Limitation of color Doppler imaging
⚫ One of the main disadvantages of
using a Doppler is the high level of
specialism required to maintain the
doppler so it continues to provide
results with a high level of accuracy,
and its inability to predict patterns.
