Textual Analysis Of Edgar Allen Poe s The Raven
Textual Analysis of Edgar Allen Poe
The Raven
Michelle Zaharek
December 1, 2014
The Raven Edgar Allen Poe was a poet, author, editor, literary critic, and husband. His works have
been pulled apart many times and the DNA of his words dissected by critics and literary analytical
writers. He has been the center of attention, but he did not start off that way. Beneath his sad eyes is a
story that rarely gets told. When people think of Poe, they think of a gothic horror writer, not
necessarily an imaginative with a single effect of a literary work. He was also part of what they call
the American Romantic Movement. Many of his poems interact with a female named Lenore. But in
order to understand their relationship, you must first understand his history to fully break down his
most famous tale, The Raven. Poe was born on January 19, 1809. He was born into a family of two
actors. The father really destroyed the family when Edgar turned one. He would drink and become
very abusive, until he decided to walk out the door and never return. The following year his beloved
mother fell ill and died of consummation. This little child had a life almost predestined just from his
past. Edgar began writing at the young age of thirteen and worked very hard at it constantly. In 1830
Poe enrolled in WestPoint, and after WestPoint he went on to write full time, and in 1835 Poe married
his cousin whom he loved. He continued to write but was never seen fully as a writer by many until he

Noah And The Great Wifi Outage Analysis
Noah and the Great Wifi Outage
Written and illustrated by: Kylie Kaminski
Noah was a man who owned no tablet, no cellphone, and no electronics of any sort. Noah paid much
attention to the world around him: helping the animals, the homeless, and the earth. Everyone else was
glued to their electronics, paying no attention to the beautiful world God created around them. People
walked down the streets, looking down at their smartphones and tablets, and had no interaction with
the people around them. Everyone was so worried about their social media and online worlds, they
forgot about the real world around them. One day while God was looking over Earth, watching people
stare at their phones, completely oblivious to the beauty and humanity surrounding them, He decided
enough was enough. God spoke to Noah and said, I will destroy this dreadful world of electronics, and
only you will be able to restore humanity, Noah.
God warned Noah that a great lightning storm would come and destroy all the electronics and WiFi on
Earth. God told Noah, You must go out into the busy streets and warn others of this great storm
coming. You must prepare to teach everyone how to live in a world without electronics, for they have
forgot how to function without them.

Unknown Salt Essay
The objective of the experiment was to identify the unknown salt that was given. The unknown salt
contained an anion and a cation labelled, 38A. A series of preliminary tests were first conducted in
order to help choose which confirmation tests should be used to identify the compound. The
preliminary tests included pH and solubility, and the behaviour of the salts with concentrated sulfuric
acid. The compound was found to have a slightly acidic pH, around 6.9 while being soluble in water.
The compound showed no change in properties after the addition of concentrated sulfuric acid. The
confirmation tests were then divided into two parts, one for the identification of the cation and the
other for the identification of the anion.
The anion tests ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The observation of chemical behaviours under specific conditions allowed for the use of process of
elimination. Given the observations found in the materials and methods section and the data found in
the lab manual1 it was found that the anion was not acetate or carbonate, but rather a halide,
specifically Br due to the brown yellow hue of the organic layer. The observations for the cation test
along with the data from the lab manual1 showed that the unknown was from group II. Since the
flame test showed no observable difference this allowed for the conclusion that the cation was Mg2+.
For the anion, the most difficult test was the acetate test as the test was concentration dependent and it
also relied on colour as its identifier. This was difficult to achieve as the concentration was hard to
keep constant, and the colour was difficult to pinpoint. Possible solutions include getting access to a
Drypette TM, a manual powder pipette that would dispel a more accurate sample of salt. This would
then make for a more reliable consideration of the color as an indicator of the presence of

Gertrude s Treatment Of Female Characters In Hamlet
In the contemporary world of today, women are allowed to express their feelings, thoughts and they
have unlimited amount of freedom, however during William Shakespeare s time women were not
allowed to act on stage as men were the ones who played the roles of women. In William Shakespeare
s play, Hamlet the female characters are characterized with very little roles, however they directly or
indirectly influence the actions by the men in their lives. Literary and historical scholars conclude that
women were not interested political, economic, or social equality with men during this time in history.
In the play the female characters are restricted in a patriarchal society as they are portrayed firstly as
weak, secondly as obedient and lastly as dependent. These characters include, Gertrude who is the
queen of Denmark, and Ophelia who is the love interest of Hamlet. The play revolves around the
theme of revenge and how these women had a big influence in the plot of the play. Firstly, Gertrude is

insults at her. Ophelia is also another important character in the play who is portrayed as an obedient
female character in the play and this can be seen when Ophelia obeys all the men in her lives such as
Polonius, Laertes and Hamlet. For example, Ophelia stays away from Hamlet since her father and
brother, Laertes advised her not to, listens to her father s commands by letting him spying on Hamlet

Abstract From theoretical viewpoints, analyses of consumer motivation have been applied to the
shopping and the tourism industry for decades. However, little research has been done on night
markets or street vendors. According to the Statistical Information of Taiwan Tourism Bureau (2002

There are three purposes for setting up Tourist Night Markets: 1. To stimulate local business trade and
to increase regional economic benefits. 2. To provide an evening venue for the local people to shop. 3.
To convert some illegal vendors into legal ones. In addition, from a shopper s perspective, it is
expected that the establishment of Tourist Night Markets can reduce some unpleasant shopping
experiences often encountered when visiting the regular hawkers. From the traditional perspective of
marketing s 4P s (McCarthy, 1960), the characteristics of Tourist Night Markets are as follows: (1)
Product the variety of goods and services is wide in Tourist Night Markets. According to the Taipei
City Government s Market Committee (Wang, 2000, as cited in Yang, 2000), over 60% of the vendors
sell food and drinks. The majority of others sell groceries and garments. (2) Price the pricing of each
vendor in the Tourist Night Market is reasonable and allows shoppers to bargain no matter whether
with stationary vendors or stores. (3) Place like the formal traders, vendors in Tourist Night Market
can be found in a fixed location where shoppers must go to buy. Thus, contrary to Arellano s research
(1994), high mobility is not a primary characteristic of Tourist Night Markets vendors. All the vendors
or operators have a fixed space to conduct their business. Location wise, it is mandatory that a huge

Analysis Of Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince

Dante
Ms. Harlow
7 May 2012
Perversions of Hell in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince J. K. Rowling, along with many other
modern fantasy authors, owes a great deal to Dante in the formulation of her best selling series.
Though the subject matter she undertakes a magical world of witchcraft and wizardry would have, in
Dante s eyes, landed her in the eighth circle of the Inferno, fourth pouch, Rowling would arguably
have been unable to create the magical universe of Harry Potter without immense inspiration from The
Divine Comedy. In an overly simplistic picture, Voldemort might be thought of as a representation of
Satan, arrogantly believing that he has the power to conquer the whole wizarding community, let alone
the entire world, with his magical faculties. Indeed, similar to Satan, Voldemort exemplifies the
damning qualities of greed, wrath, violence, deceit, and betrayal every step of the way on his path to
power.
Nevertheless, Rowling s most visible debts to Dante appear in the aura given off by the darker scenes
of her novels. Such chapters evoke a feeling unquestionably reminiscent of The Inferno to anyone
familiar with Dante s work. Specifically, near the end of the sixth installment of the series is a chapter
in which Dumbledore, a Virgil figure, takes Harry, the Dante to Dumbledore s Virgil, on an attempt to
destroy the first of seven horcruxes. The chapter alludes to Canto III of The Inferno through a series of
direct contrasts with

The Battle At Iwo Jima, But Instead, Looking At First...
A. Plan of Investigation The purpose of this investigation is to go beyond the perceived thoughts and
facts about Iwo Jima, but instead, looking at first person accounts and eyewitnesses. Iwo Jima is
known as Thirty Six Days of Hell which takes place from the 19th of February in 1945 to the 26th of
March, 1945. During these thirty six days the goal of this battle was to obtain the island because of the
location and how they would be able to utilize it for a landing strip for damaged aircrafts and
replenishment. The scope of the investigation will be understanding what life was like for the soldiers
on both sides throughout the battle. The method of this investigation will be using interviews,

When they first arrived, they knew that the Japanese tended to wait for the first wave to pass through
before starting the full blown attack. Clarence Rae described the island, They bombed Iwo for thirty
days before we ever got there. Bombed. Shelled. Everything you could think of to soften it up. . . At
6:30 in the morning all the transports were in place and by 6:40 the war had broken out. Slowly but
surely the American soldiers made progress and secured some of the airfields because by the
beginning of March, two thirds of the island was captured by American soldiers because they had a
strong Marine base and were able to push the Japanese back. After five days the Americans were able
to take over Mt. Suribachi which was such a relief for the soldiers because the five prior days was just
the beginning of the thirty six day war. Iwo Jima veteran, Hershel Woodrow Williams remembers, The
flag going up on Mount Suribachi, on Japanese territory, was something that we as marines really
needed. It was a short lived victory because after the taking over of Mt. Suribachi the bloody battle
resumed with thousands killed and bodies mutilated for thirty one days later. Another veteran, Norman
Baker, remembered vividly, After a while, I wasn t in shocked anymore and that s the worst thing for

How Did The Jamestown Colonies Lead To The Failure Of The...
Adventure, promises of wealth, and an opportunity to a new life were some of the many reasons which
attracted settlers to the Americas. However, what the new settlers did not know were the many
challenges and tragedies this new life entailed. Despite all, the colonists of Jamestown would
encounter the difficulties of starting a new colony in a foreign new land. The life these settlers found
was nothing like they expected. Their hopes for wealth and a new beginning were soon replaced with
death and misery. The colonies of the Americas can be seen as a failure because European settlers
would come to experience the horrors that the New World would give them including famine and
diseases.
Before even being constructed, colonies had already been set for failure as many colonists did not
properly prepare for the journey. Many did not have enough supplies to sustain a stable colony and
prevent its people from starving. In a letter that Richard Frethorne wrote to his parents he portrays the
poor nourishment settlers received when he says ...for since I came out of the ship I never ate anything
but peas, and loblollie. Lack of agricultural, geographical, and survival knowledge and the fact of
being in a new land prevented settlers from successfully growing crops and maintaining a steady food
supply to their colonies. Jamestown, was a settlement which was greatly impacted by the failure of
gathering food for its settlers. The colonists of Jamestown were mainly dying off of famine

Examples Of The Doppelganger Motif In Frankenstein
Playing a significant role in Gothic literature, many authors have made use of the doppelganger motif,
just like Mary Shelley in her most famous work Frankenstein . Back in that time doubling was one of
the key concepts to eerie fiction, as Marshall Brown puts it : There can be few traditions so beset with
second selves and doppelgangers as the Gothic novel (Palmer 85).
But in how far do Victor and his created entity belong to this literary idea of the double ? And to what
extent is the protagonist able to be compared to the daemon ? The following paper argues that the
similarity of Victor Frankenstein and his constructed monster goes so far that one can speak of a
double.
In Gothic fiction, which provides the best known examples of ... Show more content on

There are not many similarities at first sight when investigating these two main personalities.
However, when looking beyond their outward apparent surface, one needs to admit that they have far
more in common than just sharing the connection of creator and creation. The probably most striking
aspect is their repeated urge for going into and hiding in the nature. The monster sees nature as a
welcomed place to just be who he actually is and to hide himself from humans as they are scared of
him and also tend to attack him due to his appearance. On the other hand Victor needs the nature not
only for his mood but also for his health and makes use of it every time he feels under the weather or
is critically ill : It had then filled me with a sublime ecstacy that gave wings to the soul, and allowed it
to soar from the obscure world to light and joy (Shelley 66).
Besides nature, it s also remarkable that both characters have a serious drive for knowledge, since
Victor Frankenstein is invigorated by science and devotes himself to create supernatural life. The
daemon s drive for knowledge is visible when he starts understanding human society and secretly
learns how to speak, so that he is able to interact with human

Lupe As A Role Model
Most people think being a role model is like a popularity contest, they think it s easy. People think all
they have to do is fit in with the crowd so they can be popular. But being a role model is not an easy
task, although Lupe makes it look that way when she doesn t even fit in. In the story, The Marble
Champ, by Gary Soto, Lupe is a very good role model. Lupe shows this by being a good sport, always
working hard, and by being intelligent.
One reason why I think Lupe is a good role model is because she is very intelligent. As proof, Lupe s
academic grades are straight A s. This shows that Lupe is intelligent because not many people get
straight A s on their report card every year of school. Secondly, Lupe is intelligent because she has
won multiple awards. For example, Lupe won the school spelling bee, she won the blue ribbon award
in the science fair, she was the winner of a reading contest at the library three summers in a row, she
was also the top student in her piano recital, and she was the playground champion of chess. Talk
about a ton of awards, right? Lupe feels like none of these awards mean anything though. Lupe wishes
she could win some type of award in athletics, so that she can keep up with the other girls in her
school, that s why Lupe is working towards her goal of being the marble champion. Also, in one case
in the story, when Lupe was playing marbles on her bed, she figured out that her bedspread was
slowing down the marbles as she shot them. This

The Pros And Cons Of The Pharmaceutical Industry
Nowadays it seems like legal drugs are more expensive than illegal ones. This dilemma occurs
because the pharmaceutical industry affects the economy significantly. Although the United States is a
mixed market economy, there are instances where the economy seems like a free market economy. A
free market economy allows companies to determine the prices of goods free from government
intervention. The pharmaceutical industry, despite several regulations set by the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA), is a free market economy. Meaning, the pharmaceutical sector lacks
government regulation and has control over the prices of specialty drugs desperately needed by the
public. Therefore, the pharmaceutical industry being a free market negatively affects ... Show more

According to Paul Antony, DTCA aids consumers because it helps them recognize symptoms and their
increases communication between doctors and patients. He states that consumers that advertisements
empower them to seek out their doctor (para 3,10). However, advertisements are often emotional and
misleading. This type of advertisements causes patients to urge their doctors to prescribe them a
specialty drug because they notice they have a symptom. Doctors then would have to comply which
can end up being more harmful to the patient. Another argument is that pharmaceuticals make little
profit because new drugs cost so much to develop. Derek Lowe, a chemist, states that Expenses [are]
doing nothing but rising, and the success rate for drug discovery [is] going in the other direction (para
5). By his quote, Lowe means that the development of a drug outweighs the cost of the drug, resulting
in little profit. However, this case is on drugs that failed in the market. Drugs that are long past
development have the prices gouged for more profit. Therefore the government should regulate the
pharmaceutical industry because the industry is harmful towards the economy and patients. The
government can achieve this by enabling a cap on prices of specialty drugs and ensuring DCTA is not

The Treaty Of Paris ( 1763 )
The Treaty of Paris (1763) was an agreement signed to end the Seven Years War (1754 1763), or
French and Indian War as it was known in North America between the British and French Empires.
Agreement is different, from the Treaty of Paris signed in 1783 which concluded the American
Revolution (1775 1783) and provided for the independence of the United States of America from
Great Britain. It is also distinct from Treaty of Paris (1815) which solidified Napoleon s defeat in
Europe, and the Treaty of 1856 which concluded the Crimean War (1853 1856). By the conditions of
the 1763 Treaty, which was conjointly signed with the Treaty of Habertusburg (1763), France ceded to
the British Empire holdings in India in addition to its territories in North America east of the
Mississippi River with the exception of New Orleans. While France s Louisiana territories west of the
Mississippi were given to Spain. In addition, Spain received the islands of Havana and Manila while
ceding Florida to British control. In exchange, France retained the islands of St. Lucia, Guadeloupe,
and Martinique as well as having a number of captured outposts in the West Indies restored to their
control. Beyond these matters in North America, Great Britain also garnered a number of trade
concessions and agreements in relation to its African, Central American, and Indian territories. The
immediate result of this agreement was to reduce France s Imperial authority and effectively conclude

If you are a larger size, you don t have to worry or feel inferior. You can be as desirable as a smaller
sized woman, and you have as much a right to look your sensual best. Curves are in, and most fashion
designers are including larger sizes in their line of clothing. No longer does an oversized woman have
to look drab in clothes that are ill fitted and out of fashion. The latest trends in fashion are available in
all sizes. This includes the new fashion rage corsets.
Larger women look and feel great in a corset. In the Victorian and Edwardian era, corsets were

Religious Freedom in a World of Religious Restrictions
Religious Freedom in a World of Religious Restrictions About half a decade ago John F. Kennedy
spoke these famous words: tolerance implies no lack of commitment to one s own beliefs. Rather it
condemns the oppression or persecution of others (1930). Nowadays the issues of tolerance,
oppression and persecution are still relevant, especially with regard to religion. Even though globally
and nationally religious restrictions are increasing, without most Western people s awareness, there is
hope for an increase in religious freedom in the future.

In the PEW research North Korea was not included even though it is the most religious restrictive
country because the researchers did not have access to the specific, timely information needed for
their research (Pew Research Center 2012). Kim Jong II dictates the country, and demands god like
obedience from all the country s citizens. The government sponsored some religious groups to give
the appearance of religious freedom, but in reality there is no religious freedom whatsoever.
Worshipping in public or private, carrying religious material and speaking about religion is not legal,
and can result in systematic torture and imprisonment. There are an estimated 400,000 Christians in
North Korea, of whom 40,000 are estimated to be held in prison camps. If one member of the family
is discovered to be a believer the entire family is arrested and punished, often put into prison camps.
Prison camps basically work the prisoners to death, through starvation and physical exhaustion. The
solution that the North Korean Christians long for is that all North Koreans will become Christians,
but they do appreciate the pressure the international community applies on the North Korean
government (Class 2009).
My Own Experience Why bother worrying and writing about religious persecution, Canadian citizens
are not persecuted for their religion? Because humankind is one, there should be justice for everyone.

Poaders In Textual Poachers
2.1 Introduction
In Textual Poachers, Henry Jenkins (2013 [1992], 9) writes of a Saturday Night Live skit in which
William Shatner, or Captain Kirk, tells a group of nerdy, yet devout Trekkies, to Get a Life! This skit
plays on popular perceptions we have of fans as being so enamoured with the fan object they lose
touch with reality. In coverage of fans in the media, whether of celebrities, a television series or sports,
we are often on the receiving end of fanatical, sensationalist, or even deviant portrayals. The reality, as
fan scholars previously demonstrate, is these types of fans are stereotypes (Jenkins 2013 [1992];
Jensen 1992). Certainly, some fans spend excessive amounts of time devoted to their fan object, but
rarely does it become a pathological obsession, as is the case with celebrity stalkers (see Duffett 2014 ;
Ferris 2001; Meloy, Sheridan and Hoffmann 2008). For example, Mark David Chapman was most
definitely an obsessed fan of John Lennon, but Chapman divorced himself from fan status through
deviant pathological action, in killing Lennon, something not shared with the vast majority of fans.
Chapman was more likely severely ill, than a fan, when he shot Lennon. The relegation of fans to
pathological deviants mischaracterizes fans in a broader societal understanding, but as Jensen (1992)
points out in her now classic essay, Fandom as Pathology: the Consequences of Characterization,
skewed academic perceptions of fans as well. Set apart from deviance,

support; uses memory and CPU resources more efficiently; is reasonably easy and quick to install; and
is much less vulnerable to viruses and malware than the Microsoft Windows operating system. Linux
can be used on almost any type or brand of computer or server, including older models. I will
demonstrate that Linux is a viable and less expensive alternative to Windows and will perform well in
our server and workstation environments.
Server Environment
Hardware Considerations
Existing hardware. Our existing hardware can be used for the new Linux OS. This will require
reformatting existing hard drives and installing the Linux OS, which is much easier than reformatting
and installing Windows OS. Our older servers will still be viable for some time to come because
Linux uses less disk space and memory. It also uses less resources, so it won t slow down the devices
or the network like other Enterprise OS can.
Vendor specific hardware. If we wish to purchase vendor specific hardware for one of the new Linux
distributions, there are several options: System76; Dell; HP; IBM;

Essay on Pre and Postnatal Care for the Amish
Prenatal
Amish view pregnancy and childbirth as normal biological functions of the female body, however; due
to their cultural beliefs they will not seek out prenatal care until late in their pregnancy, if no problems
arise. Women who are primiparous, giving birth for the first time, will generally seek prenatal care at
around four months, while those who are multiparous, those who have given birth multiple times,
generally seek prenatal care during the third trimester. Amish women typically do not outright reject
the use of modern medical technology and practices if it can assist in the pregnancy, however; they
must determine which practices coincide with their cultural and spiritual belief system. Many Amish
women will seek the advice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nearly all furniture for the birthing center, such as: bed frames, bassinets, tables, cabinets, etc. is made
from Amish craftsmen from within the community (Showalter, 2000).
Labor and childbirth are a private matter to Amish families with only the mother, father, and few
midwives attending. The role of the husband is one of support and gentle aid when applicable. The
husband rubs the back and shoulders of his wife, holds her hand, cools her with a hand fan, and
provides words of comfort. Labor and childbirth for Amish women is very quiet and, on average,
shorter when compared to the labor and childbirths of other women; this could be a testament to the
strong willed convictions of the Amish women s cultural beliefs that aids them in this traumatic
process (Showalter, 2000).
Postpartum
Post Partum care is generally short as the mother and infant are taken care of by the nurse midwife at
the birthing center for 24 hours after the birth. In birthing centers, all postpartum care is administered
in the patient s room where the child was also given birth (Fisher 1996). After the child is born, the
mother is always eager to begin breastfeeding. A few hours after the birth, when the mother is able,
family members and close friends come bearing food and gifts for the mother and child. Gifts of
natural herbal remedies and teas are also given to the mother to aid her health. The birth of children is
very common in Amish communities with women bearing, on average,

The Essence Of Kanye West
The essence of Kanye West is a contradiction; he embodies two opposite sides of the hip hop
spectrum: the conscious and the ignorant. One side of the spectrum embodies the ideals of
brotherhood, collective being, and addresses the social and political aspects affecting the people of
society as Kanye explained formerly as spoken word. The other side demands the artist to live through
the art of self gratification by any means necessary or as Kanye put it, being able to buy 80 gold
chains and go ig nant. Some may argue that the art of compromise in the commercialization of rap
music has been compromised by self proclaimed fashion mogul, and egotistical rap artist, Kanye
West. He s one of the most virtuous and artistically driven rappers in the game, with goals much
bigger just dropping albums.
In 2004, College Dropout was the album that brought the combative soul producer from Chicago into
the hip hop conversation. It sold 2.6 million copies and won a Grammy for Best Rap Album. On Ye s
classic, he addressed his personal struggles of insecurity, conforming to social norms, spirituality,
materialism, consumerism, family and personal relationships, near death experiences, and his rags to
riches story. All Falls Down was one of Kanye s early masterpieces, a time when his vulgarity,
goofiness, soul, and intelligence came together to create a mesmerizing four minute story. Originally
debuted at the Def Jam Poetry Slam as a spoken word, you could hear the sincerity, soul, and

Uva-F-1560, Hertz
The bidding process for Hertz began when William Ford Jr. announced plans to explore strategic
alternatives for Hertz in April 2005. Two months later in June, an S 1 registration statement was filed
setting up a dual track process that would result in a Hertz IPO should other sale prospects fail. This
decision affects the bidding process in multiple ways. For one there is less time for the two bidding
groups to come up with a price and resulting agreement. They are forced to act quickly and find a
price that the Hertz management will agree upon. If they don t do this, then Hertz will just go through
with the IPO. This could lead to a driven up price, since the bidding groups will do whatever it takes
to win the bid.

ABS debt was not only less expensive (it carried a low interest rate around 4.5%), but it provided a
more flexible financing arrangement since debt could increase or decrease with fleet size. Also, senior
debt and purchase price multiples had increased to 4x EBITDA and 8x EBITDA respectively. These
numbers are used in coming up with a purchase price multiple, which is a key drive in finding the
enterprise value.
When trying to find the Enterprise Value for Hertz, the sponsor group took a couple key assumptions.
First off, management had projected transaction volume to grow 6.9% in 2005, which according to the
case is one of the key drivers of the rental car business. This seems to be a reasonable assumption
considering that travel was starting to rebound from the lows post 9/11. Also, the Bidding group
believed $400 $600 million in annual EBITDA savings was attainable by 2009 (confirmed by external
industry advisors). Hertz was behind in EBITDA margins, increasing operating expenses outpacing
revenue growth, the off airport growth strategy had significant losses, higher nonfleet capital
expenditures, Europe s RAC SG amp;A was 3 times higher than those in the U.S., and return on assets
lagged competitors. The bidding group thought by targeting these problem areas, and others, they
could generate higher profits. Another assumption

D G Gang Rape Advert
Television commercials or print ads are often developed that rely on unusual creative tactics and have
very little relevance to the product or service being advertised. Creative personnel in agencies defend
the use of these ads by noting that they are novel and provide a way to break through the high level of
clutter on television and in magazines. Evaluate the pros and cons of this argument. Find an example
of a television commercial or print ad that takes an unusual creative approach and discuss whether you
feel it is effective or ineffective.

the market (demographic) since a product cannot broadly apply to all consumers. D G are targeting
young men teenagers, middle and upper class professionals, metrosexual couples and people that are
employed in artistic and innovative industries such as interior designers.
Why should these categories buy D G products? What is the perceived value customers gain when
purchasing D G products? Marketers are aware that some teenagers and young men find it difficult to
socialize with women. This advert is informing this category that with D G products socializing with
women becomes an easy task (Women will fall for you!).

They are challenging the viewers to think outside the box (lateral thinking black box). They are
provoking the viewer to reflect and dig deeper, to search for the connotative meanings behind the rape
scene. The background portraying the clouds gives the notion of paradise and transmits the feeling
that the woman is giving consent. In other words they are saying that this is not rape but a heavenly
experience. This idea might appeal to metrosexual couples. D G is making a statement that they cater
for people who are open minded (white opening).

the steps to lower it, this will also contribute to the levels of all the of aspects I have already spoken to

your training guidelines, whether that is strength training, moderate HIIT training, or just walking for
30 minutes a day, it is better than being sedentary. Also cut out unhealthy sugars, trans fats, and
saturated fats. Start to incorporate half a plate of greens and fruits and a fistfull of lean protein per
meal. Also to note try to eat regular meals throughout the day and add fiber to your diet. Soluble fiber
dissolves in water and helps control blood sugar levels and reduce cholesterol. Good sources include
barley, oatmeal, beans, nuts, and fruits such as apples, berries, citrus fruits, and pears. (Robinson Segal

British Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution in Great Britain began in eighteenth century due to the economic
differences in many areas, the rise of factories, and the advances in technologies. The Industrial
Revolution created a foundation for the modern world s economy and helped advance the world s
markets and industries. It also affected the social system and improved the people s living standard.
Learning about the Industrial Revolution will help us understand more about the history of our
prosperous economy.
There were many factors that started the British Industrial Revolution such as economic differences in
rural areas and cities, the rise of many factories which fulfilled the needs for workers and increased
jobs, along with the advancement in technologies which created new production methods. In rural
areas, labours were cheap and many workers became unemployed and this increased poverty. In cities,
the economy was different. Many factories were formed which created more jobs causing the people
in rural areas to leave their towns to work in cities. Since the majority of people lived in cities and
worked in factories, it created the industrial system (1). During the Industrial Revolution, men,
women, and even children needed to work in order to survive. They worked in dangerous
environments and were paid with low wages. Children and women were favored to work in coal
mining industry because they were slim. They suffered severe contamination And children were

Corrections in teh Criminal Justice System
When most people hear the term, corrections they probably think of prisons, striped uniforms,
cellblocks, armed guards, and surly prisoners. Part of American corrections is prisons, but corrections
is much more than that. Corrections includes prisons, jails, halfway houses, group homes, probation,
parole, intensive supervision, electric monitoring, restitution programs, victim offender mediation, and
even the death penalty. Corrections can be defined as all that society does to and with offenders after
they have been found guilty of a crime. Corrections even includes some things done to offenders prior
to conviction, such as detention in jails pending adjudication of guilt and programs for offenders who
are diverted out of the criminal system. I will start this paper by exploring early corrections in the
United States. The village style, communal life of colonial America did not lend itself to extensive use
of institutional incarceration. Resources and expertise for erecting jails or prison facilities were non
existent. A few jails were used as short term housing facilities for those awaiting trial or imposition of
a sentence. Some offenders served short jail terms, but one reason jails were not used as frequently as
in later times was due to economics. Even today, jails and prisons are a financial drain on society. It is
expensive to feed and house prisoners. Another economic motive has been connected to the scarce use
of prisons and jails. Incarcerated prisoners

What Is The Purpose Of Lies My Teacher Told Me
History is almost always written by the winners. As a result, the details of pivotal historical events are
often washed as to prevent the dirty, less flattering details to rise to the surface. It is why we need
books such as Lies My Teacher Told Me. by James W. Loewen to uncover and expose the propogandic
style teachings of high school textbooks. In his book, he has detailed his writings that are intended to
elicit a thought provoking question is our curriculum geared toward immortalizing the great
achievements of our nation while keeping the dark, checkered deeds hidden? That is the purpose of his
dogma, and this analysis we will uncover what exactly happened that prompted Loewen to release
such an argumentative book, as well as weather or not he is right.
We will begin by analysing why Lowen wrote this book. From what has been detailed in the
introduction, Loewen states that the process of teaching American History has been whitewashed the
achievements of non whites and women have been swept aside, merely mentioned once every so
often. To quote:
...While there is nothing wrong with optimism, it can become something of a burden for students of
color, children of working class parents, girls who notice the dearth of female historical figures, or
members of any group that has not achieved socio economic success. The optimistic approach
prevents any understanding of failure other than blaming the victim. No wonder children of color are
alienated. Even for male

Initially, Monica contacts Carl about the key items needed for orientation and he assures her that
everything is good to go. This could not have been further from the truth. At this point, he is not aware
of the problems he will face in his new endeavor. Carl s lack of experience is clearly exhibited when
his assurance has not been tested. The next key problem that arises for Carl is when he checks the new
trainee files and discovers that they are incomplete. All the new recruits have gone through the
interview process and filled out their paperwork. Unfortunately, the paperwork is incomplete and
missing lots of valuable data. To make matters worse, some files are missing transcripts, and no one
has completed the required drug screens. Problems only get worse for Carl when he discovers that
only three copies of the employee manuals exist. Of the three manuals that exist, they are all missing
several pages. Unfortunately, he needs fifteen complete copies. As if the previous issues alone are not
bad enough, Carl also learns that the training room he plans to use for orientation has been booked by
another individual for the entire month of June. At this point, he is faced with a serious dilemma, and
his lack of experience reveals that he does not realize the severity of his problem. Namely, he lacks
leadership because he failed to prepare and assumed that his first project would go smoothly. Next, he

Cardiac Substrate Metabolism Lab Report
Cardiac Substrate Metabolism: Cardiac tissue requires a continuous supply of oxygen and substrates
to rapidly produce energy that is largely used for maintaining contractile function. Cardiac myocytes
efficiently extract 65 70% of oxygen at rest and 80 85% during exertion from the blood [1]. During
normoxia when oxygen is not limiting cardiac myocytes derive 90% of their energy through oxidative
phosphorylation in the mitochondria, and the remainder from glycolysis [2, 3]. In a normal heart, 60
90% of acetyl CoA used in the Kreb s cycle is derived from β oxidation of fatty acids (FA) [4, 5]. The
remainder is derived predominantly from glucose, ketones, and amino acid metabolism [6]. In cardiac

High intracellular Ca2+ promotes myofibril hypercontracture following pH normalization [115], and
mPTP opening [114]. Ischemic depletion of ATP leads to the attenuation of the Na+/K+ ATPase in the
sarcolemma, leading to intracellular accumulation of Na+. High intracellular Na+ leads to a
subsequent disruption of Na+/Ca2+ antiporter in the sarcolemma [114], and Ca2+ accumulates in the
cytosol. The sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) normally sequesters intracellular Ca2+, but it becomes
either Ca2+ saturated [114], or SR sequestration is depressed due to ATP depletion [116]. An
important connection between calcium overload and ROS is the enzyme XO. XO is phosphorylated by
p38 kinase during hypoxia [117], after which it contributes to cytosolic generation of ROS. XO
indirectly reduces sarcoendoplasmic reticulum Ca2+ ATPase through the generation of ROS, which
leads to an intracellular accumulation of Ca2+ [109]. Its inhibition has been shown to reduce
intracellular Ca2+ concentrations

Examples Of Prima Facie Case Of Obviousness
In the U.S., when examining a patent application with claims directed to novel chemical compounds,

How Did Myrtle Wilson Fail In The Great Gatsby
The failure of the American Dream
The novel, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is about the American Dream. The American
Dream is the ideal that every U.S. citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success through
hard work. The failure of the American Dream is represented by Myrtle Wilson, Daisy Buchanan, and

Myrtle Wilson s dream is to have an opulent, happy life. One reason why her American Dream fails is
because of Daisy Buchanan. In The Great Gatsby, it says, [...] until I realized that her eyes, wide with

  • 2. Textual Analysis Of Edgar Allen Poe s The Raven Textual Analysis of Edgar Allen Poe The Raven Michelle Zaharek December 1, 2014 The Raven Edgar Allen Poe was a poet, author, editor, literary critic, and husband. His works have been pulled apart many times and the DNA of his words dissected by critics and literary analytical writers. He has been the center of attention, but he did not start off that way. Beneath his sad eyes is a story that rarely gets told. When people think of Poe, they think of a gothic horror writer, not necessarily an imaginative with a single effect of a literary work. He was also part of what they call the American Romantic Movement. Many of his poems interact with a female named Lenore. But in order to understand their relationship, you must first understand his history to fully break down his most famous tale, The Raven. Poe was born on January 19, 1809. He was born into a family of two actors. The father really destroyed the family when Edgar turned one. He would drink and become very abusive, until he decided to walk out the door and never return. The following year his beloved mother fell ill and died of consummation. This little child had a life almost predestined just from his past. Edgar began writing at the young age of thirteen and worked very hard at it constantly. In 1830 Poe enrolled in WestPoint, and after WestPoint he went on to write full time, and in 1835 Poe married his cousin whom he loved. He continued to write but was never seen fully as a writer by many until he finally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Noah And The Great Wifi Outage Analysis Noah and the Great Wifi Outage Written and illustrated by: Kylie Kaminski Noah was a man who owned no tablet, no cellphone, and no electronics of any sort. Noah paid much attention to the world around him: helping the animals, the homeless, and the earth. Everyone else was glued to their electronics, paying no attention to the beautiful world God created around them. People walked down the streets, looking down at their smartphones and tablets, and had no interaction with the people around them. Everyone was so worried about their social media and online worlds, they forgot about the real world around them. One day while God was looking over Earth, watching people stare at their phones, completely oblivious to the beauty and humanity surrounding them, He decided enough was enough. God spoke to Noah and said, I will destroy this dreadful world of electronics, and only you will be able to restore humanity, Noah. God warned Noah that a great lightning storm would come and destroy all the electronics and WiFi on Earth. God told Noah, You must go out into the busy streets and warn others of this great storm coming. You must prepare to teach everyone how to live in a world without electronics, for they have forgot how to function without them. Noah traveled far and wide, ... • 4. Unknown Salt Essay The objective of the experiment was to identify the unknown salt that was given. The unknown salt contained an anion and a cation labelled, 38A. A series of preliminary tests were first conducted in order to help choose which confirmation tests should be used to identify the compound. The preliminary tests included pH and solubility, and the behaviour of the salts with concentrated sulfuric acid. The compound was found to have a slightly acidic pH, around 6.9 while being soluble in water. The compound showed no change in properties after the addition of concentrated sulfuric acid. The confirmation tests were then divided into two parts, one for the identification of the cation and the other for the identification of the anion. The anion tests ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The observation of chemical behaviours under specific conditions allowed for the use of process of elimination. Given the observations found in the materials and methods section and the data found in the lab manual1 it was found that the anion was not acetate or carbonate, but rather a halide, specifically Br due to the brown yellow hue of the organic layer. The observations for the cation test along with the data from the lab manual1 showed that the unknown was from group II. Since the flame test showed no observable difference this allowed for the conclusion that the cation was Mg2+. For the anion, the most difficult test was the acetate test as the test was concentration dependent and it also relied on colour as its identifier. This was difficult to achieve as the concentration was hard to keep constant, and the colour was difficult to pinpoint. Possible solutions include getting access to a Drypette TM, a manual powder pipette that would dispel a more accurate sample of salt. This would then make for a more reliable consideration of the color as an indicator of the presence of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gertrude s Treatment Of Female Characters In Hamlet In the contemporary world of today, women are allowed to express their feelings, thoughts and they have unlimited amount of freedom, however during William Shakespeare s time women were not allowed to act on stage as men were the ones who played the roles of women. In William Shakespeare s play, Hamlet the female characters are characterized with very little roles, however they directly or indirectly influence the actions by the men in their lives. Literary and historical scholars conclude that women were not interested political, economic, or social equality with men during this time in history. In the play the female characters are restricted in a patriarchal society as they are portrayed firstly as weak, secondly as obedient and lastly as dependent. These characters include, Gertrude who is the queen of Denmark, and Ophelia who is the love interest of Hamlet. The play revolves around the theme of revenge and how these women had a big influence in the plot of the play. Firstly, Gertrude is one of the main characters in the ... However, little research has been done on night markets or street vendors. According to the Statistical Information of Taiwan Tourism Bureau (2002 annual survey report on R.O.C. inbound travelers, Taipei, Tourism Bureau, 2003), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are three purposes for setting up Tourist Night Markets: 1. To stimulate local business trade and to increase regional economic benefits. 2. To provide an evening venue for the local people to shop. 3. To convert some illegal vendors into legal ones. In addition, from a shopper s perspective, it is expected that the establishment of Tourist Night Markets can reduce some unpleasant shopping experiences often encountered when visiting the regular hawkers. From the traditional perspective of marketing s 4P s (McCarthy, 1960), the characteristics of Tourist Night Markets are as follows: (1) Product the variety of goods and services is wide in Tourist Night Markets. According to the Taipei City Government s Market Committee (Wang, 2000, as cited in Yang, 2000), over 60% of the vendors sell food and drinks. The majority of others sell groceries and garments. (2) Price the pricing of each vendor in the Tourist Night Market is reasonable and allows shoppers to bargain no matter whether with stationary vendors or stores. (3) Place like the formal traders, vendors in Tourist Night Market can be found in a fixed location where shoppers must go to buy. Thus, contrary to Arellano s research (1994), high mobility is not a primary characteristic of Tourist Night Markets vendors. • 7. Analysis Of Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince Matt Hodel Dante Ms. Harlow 7 May 2012 Perversions of Hell in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince J. K. Rowling, along with many other modern fantasy authors, owes a great deal to Dante in the formulation of her best selling series. Though the subject matter she undertakes a magical world of witchcraft and wizardry would have, in Dante s eyes, landed her in the eighth circle of the Inferno, fourth pouch, Rowling would arguably have been unable to create the magical universe of Harry Potter without immense inspiration from The Divine Comedy. In an overly simplistic picture, Voldemort might be thought of as a representation of Satan, arrogantly believing that he has the power to conquer the whole wizarding community, let alone the entire world, with his magical faculties. Indeed, similar to Satan, Voldemort exemplifies the damning qualities of greed, wrath, violence, deceit, and betrayal every step of the way on his path to power. Nevertheless, Rowling s most visible debts to Dante appear in the aura given off by the darker scenes of her novels. Such chapters evoke a feeling unquestionably reminiscent of The Inferno to anyone familiar with Dante s work. Specifically, near the end of the sixth installment of the series is a chapter in which Dumbledore, a Virgil figure, takes Harry, the Dante to Dumbledore s Virgil, on an attempt to destroy the first of seven horcruxes. The chapter alludes to Canto III of The Inferno through a series of direct contrasts with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At 6:30 in the morning all the transports were in place and by 6:40 the war had broken out. Slowly but surely the American soldiers made progress and secured some of the airfields because by the beginning of March, two thirds of the island was captured by American soldiers because they had a strong Marine base and were able to push the Japanese back. After five days the Americans were able to take over Mt. Suribachi which was such a relief for the soldiers because the five prior days was just the beginning of the thirty six day war. Iwo Jima veteran, Hershel Woodrow Williams remembers, The flag going up on Mount Suribachi, on Japanese territory, was something that we as marines really needed. It was a short lived victory because after the taking over of Mt. Suribachi the bloody battle resumed with thousands killed and bodies mutilated for thirty one days later. Another veteran, Norman Baker, remembered vividly, After a while, I wasn t in shocked anymore and that s the worst thing for me. You became like animals or a machine. • 10. How Did The Jamestown Colonies Lead To The Failure Of The... Adventure, promises of wealth, and an opportunity to a new life were some of the many reasons which attracted settlers to the Americas. However, what the new settlers did not know were the many challenges and tragedies this new life entailed. Despite all, the colonists of Jamestown would encounter the difficulties of starting a new colony in a foreign new land. The life these settlers found was nothing like they expected. Their hopes for wealth and a new beginning were soon replaced with death and misery. The colonies of the Americas can be seen as a failure because European settlers would come to experience the horrors that the New World would give them including famine and diseases. Before even being constructed, colonies had already been set for failure as many colonists did not properly prepare for the journey. Many did not have enough supplies to sustain a stable colony and prevent its people from starving. In a letter that Richard Frethorne wrote to his parents he portrays the poor nourishment settlers received when he says ...for since I came out of the ship I never ate anything but peas, and loblollie. Lack of agricultural, geographical, and survival knowledge and the fact of being in a new land prevented settlers from successfully growing crops and maintaining a steady food supply to their colonies. • 11. Examples Of The Doppelganger Motif In Frankenstein Playing a significant role in Gothic literature, many authors have made use of the doppelganger motif, just like Mary Shelley in her most famous work Frankenstein . Back in that time doubling was one of the key concepts to eerie fiction, as Marshall Brown puts it : There can be few traditions so beset with second selves and doppelgangers as the Gothic novel (Palmer 85). But in how far do Victor and his created entity belong to this literary idea of the double ? And to what extent is the protagonist able to be compared to the daemon ? The following paper argues that the similarity of Victor Frankenstein and his constructed monster goes so far that one can speak of a double. In Gothic fiction, which provides the best known examples of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are not many similarities at first sight when investigating these two main personalities. However, when looking beyond their outward apparent surface, one needs to admit that they have far more in common than just sharing the connection of creator and creation. The probably most striking aspect is their repeated urge for going into and hiding in the nature. The monster sees nature as a welcomed place to just be who he actually is and to hide himself from humans as they are scared of him and also tend to attack him due to his appearance. On the other hand Victor needs the nature not only for his mood but also for his health and makes use of it every time he feels under the weather or is critically ill : It had then filled me with a sublime ecstacy that gave wings to the soul, and allowed it to soar from the obscure world to light and joy (Shelley 66). Besides nature, it s also remarkable that both characters have a serious drive for knowledge, since Victor Frankenstein is invigorated by science and devotes himself to create supernatural life. The daemon s drive for knowledge is visible when he starts understanding human society and secretly learns how to speak, so that he is able to interact with human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But being a role model is not an easy task, although Lupe makes it look that way when she doesn t even fit in. In the story, The Marble Champ, by Gary Soto, Lupe is a very good role model. Lupe shows this by being a good sport, always working hard, and by being intelligent. One reason why I think Lupe is a good role model is because she is very intelligent. As proof, Lupe s academic grades are straight A s. This shows that Lupe is intelligent because not many people get straight A s on their report card every year of school. Secondly, Lupe is intelligent because she has won multiple awards. For example, Lupe won the school spelling bee, she won the blue ribbon award in the science fair, she was the winner of a reading contest at the library three summers in a row, she was also the top student in her piano recital, and she was the playground champion of chess. Talk about a ton of awards, right? Lupe feels like none of these awards mean anything though. Lupe wishes she could win some type of award in athletics, so that she can keep up with the other girls in her school, that s why Lupe is working towards her goal of being the marble champion. This dilemma occurs because the pharmaceutical industry affects the economy significantly. Although the United States is a mixed market economy, there are instances where the economy seems like a free market economy. A free market economy allows companies to determine the prices of goods free from government intervention. The pharmaceutical industry, despite several regulations set by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is a free market economy. He states that consumers that advertisements empower them to seek out their doctor (para 3,10). However, advertisements are often emotional and misleading. This type of advertisements causes patients to urge their doctors to prescribe them a specialty drug because they notice they have a symptom. Doctors then would have to comply which can end up being more harmful to the patient. Another argument is that pharmaceuticals make little profit because new drugs cost so much to develop. Derek Lowe, a chemist, states that Expenses [are] doing nothing but rising, and the success rate for drug discovery [is] going in the other direction (para 5). By his quote, Lowe means that the development of a drug outweighs the cost of the drug, resulting in little profit. However, this case is on drugs that failed in the market. Drugs that are long past development have the prices gouged for more profit. Therefore the government should regulate the pharmaceutical industry because the industry is harmful towards the economy and patients. This skit plays on popular perceptions we have of fans as being so enamoured with the fan object they lose touch with reality. In coverage of fans in the media, whether of celebrities, a television series or sports, we are often on the receiving end of fanatical, sensationalist, or even deviant portrayals. The reality, as fan scholars previously demonstrate, is these types of fans are stereotypes (Jenkins 2013 [1992]; Jensen 1992). Certainly, some fans spend excessive amounts of time devoted to their fan object, but rarely does it become a pathological obsession, as is the case with celebrity stalkers (see Duffett 2014 ; Ferris 2001; Meloy, Sheridan and Hoffmann 2008). For example, Mark David Chapman was most definitely an obsessed fan of John Lennon, but Chapman divorced himself from fan status through deviant pathological action, in killing Lennon, something not shared with the vast majority of fans. Chapman was more likely severely ill, than a fan, when he shot Lennon. The relegation of fans to pathological deviants mischaracterizes fans in a broader societal understanding, but as Jensen (1992) points out in her now classic essay, Fandom as Pathology: the Consequences of Characterization, skewed academic perceptions of fans as well. There are many excellent reasons to employ Linux as the operating system of choice for our company: Linux is tried and true ; is used by many large companies, such as Google , Amazon , Facebook , and many of the cloud service providers; is less expensive; more reliable and stable; has extensive free community support; uses memory and CPU resources more efficiently; is reasonably easy and quick to install; and is much less vulnerable to viruses and malware than the Microsoft Windows operating system. Linux can be used on almost any type or brand of computer or server, including older models. I will demonstrate that Linux is a viable and less expensive alternative to Windows and will perform well in our server and workstation environments. Server Environment Hardware Considerations Existing hardware. Our existing hardware can be used for the new Linux OS. This will require reformatting existing hard drives and installing the Linux OS, which is much easier than reformatting and installing Windows OS. Our older servers will still be viable for some time to come because Linux uses less disk space and memory. The Industrial Revolution created a foundation for the modern world s economy and helped advance the world s markets and industries. It also affected the social system and improved the people s living standard. Learning about the Industrial Revolution will help us understand more about the history of our prosperous economy. In rural areas, labours were cheap and many workers became unemployed and this increased poverty. In cities, the economy was different. • 32. Corrections in teh Criminal Justice System When most people hear the term, corrections they probably think of prisons, striped uniforms, cellblocks, armed guards, and surly prisoners. Part of American corrections is prisons, but corrections is much more than that. Corrections includes prisons, jails, halfway houses, group homes, probation, parole, intensive supervision, electric monitoring, restitution programs, victim offender mediation, and even the death penalty. Corrections can be defined as all that society does to and with offenders after they have been found guilty of a crime. Corrections even includes some things done to offenders prior to conviction, such as detention in jails pending adjudication of guilt and programs for offenders who are diverted out of the criminal system. I will start this paper by exploring early corrections in the United States. The village style, communal life of colonial America did not lend itself to extensive use of institutional incarceration. Resources and expertise for erecting jails or prison facilities were non existent. A few jails were used as short term housing facilities for those awaiting trial or imposition of a sentence. Some offenders served short jail terms, but one reason jails were not used as frequently as in later times was due to economics. Even today, jails and prisons are a financial drain on society. It is expensive to feed and house prisoners. Another economic motive has been connected to the scarce use of prisons and jails. Incarcerated prisoners ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. What Is The Purpose Of Lies My Teacher Told Me History is almost always written by the winners. As a result, the details of pivotal historical events are often washed as to prevent the dirty, less flattering details to rise to the surface. It is why we need books such as Lies My Teacher Told Me. by James W. Loewen to uncover and expose the propogandic style teachings of high school textbooks. In his book, he has detailed his writings that are intended to elicit a thought provoking question is our curriculum geared toward immortalizing the great achievements of our nation while keeping the dark, checkered deeds hidden? That is the purpose of his dogma, and this analysis we will uncover what exactly happened that prompted Loewen to release such an argumentative book, as well as weather or not he is right. We will begin by analysing why Lowen wrote this book. From what has been detailed in the introduction, Loewen states that the process of teaching American History has been whitewashed the achievements of non whites and women have been swept aside, merely mentioned once every so often. To quote: ...While there is nothing wrong with optimism, it can become something of a burden for students of color, children of working class parents, girls who notice the dearth of female historical figures, or members of any group that has not achieved socio economic success. The optimistic approach prevents any understanding of failure other than blaming the victim. No wonder children of color are alienated. Even for male ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Cardiac Substrate Metabolism Lab Report Cardiac Substrate Metabolism: Cardiac tissue requires a continuous supply of oxygen and substrates to rapidly produce energy that is largely used for maintaining contractile function. Cardiac myocytes efficiently extract 65 70% of oxygen at rest and 80 85% during exertion from the blood [1]. During normoxia when oxygen is not limiting cardiac myocytes derive 90% of their energy through oxidative phosphorylation in the mitochondria, and the remainder from glycolysis [2, 3]. In a normal heart, 60 90% of acetyl CoA used in the Kreb s cycle is derived from β oxidation of fatty acids (FA) [4, 5]. The remainder is derived predominantly from glucose, ketones, and amino acid metabolism [6]. In cardiac myocytes adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... High intracellular Ca2+ promotes myofibril hypercontracture following pH normalization [115], and mPTP opening [114]. Ischemic depletion of ATP leads to the attenuation of the Na+/K+ ATPase in the sarcolemma, leading to intracellular accumulation of Na+. High intracellular Na+ leads to a subsequent disruption of Na+/Ca2+ antiporter in the sarcolemma [114], and Ca2+ accumulates in the cytosol. The sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) normally sequesters intracellular Ca2+, but it becomes either Ca2+ saturated [114], or SR sequestration is depressed due to ATP depletion [116]. An important connection between calcium overload and ROS is the enzyme XO. XO is phosphorylated by p38 kinase during hypoxia [117], after which it contributes to cytosolic generation of ROS. XO indirectly reduces sarcoendoplasmic reticulum Ca2+ ATPase through the generation of ROS, which leads to an intracellular accumulation of Ca2+ [109]. Its inhibition has been shown to reduce intracellular Ca2+ concentrations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examples Of Prima Facie Case Of Obviousness In the U.S., when examining a patent application with claims directed to novel chemical compounds, an examiner may reject those claims under 35 U.S.C. § 103 as obvious over structurally similar compounds in the prior art. In In re Hass,1the Federal Circuit held that structural obviousness is a presumption of obviousness. However, this presumption can be rebutted if the applicant is able to show the property of the claimed compound is different from the prior art compound. The court held that a prima facie case of obviousness is not made unless the claimed invention is structurally similar. 2 The Federal Circuit established the Hass Henze test to whther the prima facie case of obviousness may be rebutted.3 It is necessary for a plaintiff to demonstrate that (1) that the claimed compound or composition possesses unexpectedly improved properties over the prior art or properties not actually ...
