Eric Garner Characteristics
Eric Garner was a 43 year old African American man who was also fatally injured by a law
enforcement officer. A police officer in Staten Island, New York claimed Garner was selling illegal
cigarettes, and then the officer placed Garner in an illegal choke hold. A bystander was able to record
the event on his/her smartphone. Although the officer placed Garner in an illegal chokehold, the
officer was not charged with any crimes. The officer was only put on modified duty, and his
supervisor was stripped of her gun because of failure to supervise.
The way in which a police officer reacts to a situation relies on the characteristics of the suspect and
location, and the personal beliefs of the police officer. The characteristics of a suspect include the
individual s race, ethnicity, gender, economic status, and behavior. These aspects play a single role in a
law enforcement officer s behavior under a nerve wracking situation. People will argue that an officer
judging by a suspect s characteristics is sexist, racist, etc., but, truth is, everyone judges by ... Show

Studies have shown that an officer is more likely to even just pull over a person of color in higher
crime neighborhoods. In the cities San Francisco, Ferguson, Chicago, Greensboro, New York, and
Maricopa, it is found that police officers tend to target individuals who are African American to pull
over, but in all of these cities it is found that the white counterparts have a significantly higher rate of
holding contraband goods that have been imported or exported illegally in their vehicles (Makarechi
1). A law enforcement officer s decision making can also be influenced by the number of bystanders
present. An officer is also more likely to apply force to his/her suspect when in an unnerving setting.
For example, an officer will be more on edge when in an alley at night than he/she will be on the side
of a highway at

Levee Case Study New Orleans
Define and analyze the problem
New Orleans was built on a risky location. According to Lalwani, Khagram, Evans, Jackson, and
Lindenber (2007, p1), New Orleans was built on a natural levee adjacent to the massive Mississippi
river that was not embayed and therefore not protected from flooding. When French colonizer, Jean
Baptiste La Moyne, Sieur de Bienville, founded New Orleans in 1718, it was considered a
strategically significant port of trade between North America and the rest of the world due to the
Mississippi River and its vast network of tributaries (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p1). On the other hand, the
city s first chief engineer, Del la Tour, and geologists Kolb and Van Loplin found the site unsuitable
for a city because the threat of flooding (Lalwani, et al., ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They believed that the creation of more levees would force the Mississippi into a single channel
resulting in the river forming a deeper channel (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p4). Forshey surveyed the levee
system, found there to be more than 847 miles of levees along the Mississippi, and suggested the
creation of 159 more miles of levees to fill in gaps between the existing levees (Lalwani, et al., 2007,
p4). The basis of the exclusive creation of levees proposal is the river naturally forming a deeper
channel as a result of the levees. On the contrary, Captain Andrew A. Humphreys and the U.S. Corps
of Topographical Engineers refuted the assertion that the levee system allowed the river to deepen its
channel. He said that hard clay prevented the current from scouring the river bed, and eventually
levees would result in raising the river. However, he also admitted that by careful management, levees
could be built to withstand flooding from the river, (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p4). Levee exclusive
approach could work but there are many concerned with its ability to

Acid-Base Lab
Acid/Base lab s purpose was to introduce extractions of one of the four neutral organic compounds (4
chlorobenzophene, biphenyl, trans stilbene, and trans chalcone). We then were asked to test the
solubility of our selected neutral compound with hexane, water, methanol, and ethyl acetate to find the
solvent that only dissolved the neutral compound while introduced to heat. Once the solvent was
chosen, we purified the compound by recrystallization, and then concluded that my neutral organic
compound was trans stilbene.
₪ Introduction ₪ It s essential for any chemist to grasp acid/base chemistry. It s a method of
purification, once the experiment is completed. However, it s the groundwork of pKa values, which
helps identify the acid, conjugate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also another factor is finding a solvent at which ones compound dissolves in when heat is introduced
and insoluble at room temperature, but it should also crystalize when introduced to cold temperatures.
My compound had the melting point of trans stilbene at 121 123°C which, was just lower than the
PubChem recorded melting temperature of 122 125°C. Concluded that my neutral organic compound
was trans stilbene because of the mixed melting points similarity. If the experiment were repeated it
would be important to possibly have students use pipets or some measured method to rinse their
product during recrystallization so that mistakes such as over rinsing occur less and are more precise.
Also another improvement that could be made is to perform more tests to the acid that had been a
nucleophile to better identify its transformation. Other wise the lab that was performed was parallel to
that of work in the extraction of medicines and other compounds that are marketed as pure at a less
grand scale, but demonstrated the importance of acid/base chemistry.

Orthopedic And Spine Institute ( Osi )
Orthopedic Spine Institute (OSI) would like to provide residents with a new and convenient option for
receiving urgent orthopedic care services. Staffed by a board certified physician and a fellowship
trained physician assistant (PA) as well as technicians to handle imaging, casts, and splints. The
average wait for a sports medicine orthopedic surgeon is three to four weeks. When possible the
patients will be placed on the schedule of an orthopedic surgeon that is available the day of their
injury. However, if the schedule is full the patient receives care from the PA or board certified Family
Medicine physician with a subspecialty in sports medicine. This will give the newer orthopedic
surgeons an opportunity to see new patients, when this is not possible the patients will be still be able
to receive the care they need by the PA without having to wait for an appointment. With a new
orthopedic group from a town sixty miles away opens an office across the street, the clinic must make
the time to see the patients of our community.
Marketing Highlights Patients would otherwise call the other established orthopedic clinic in the area
or may try and schedule with the new group from Sioux Falls who recently opened an office across
from OSI and have applied for privileges at the three area hospitals. We will retain and obtain new
patients whose injuries may lead to a surgical procedure.

How Did Bohemian Rhapsody Break
Bohemian Rhapsody was composed by Freddie Mercury, while its primary genre is rock, it is full of
different textures, tempos, vocals and instrumentation. It is considered to be one of the greatest songs
of all time and has been number one many times. It is also one of my personal favourite songs.
The song, instead of being song form, has no chorus and is split up into different sections, an intro,
ballad, operatic passage, hard rock section and reflective coda.
The BPM of this song changes throughout,
The introduction begins with a five part harmony acapella sung by Freddie Mercury, all of these parts
have been multi tracked and are in the key of Bb. The vocals are panned differently, with the higher
harmonies in the right and the lower ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the next line comes in, drums, bass and a timpani come in, the sound is very sudden and can be
described as sforzando, the sound is very full and is quite different from a few seconds ago, the
dynamics are constantly changing. During the Galileo section, the higher Galileo is panned in the right
ear, and the lower Galileo is panned in the left ear, it can be described as a call and response
technique. When Mercury sings Magnifico , the Oh is canon and panned between the left and right of
the stereo field. At 3:50, No, we will not let you go is panned on the left of the stereo field, with Let
him go! on the right, after this, Never, never, never is panned from left to right, further showing that
this song is full of creative panning. The operatic section ends with Beelzebub has a devil put aside for
me , sung with the full chorus, actually just multitracked vocals from Mercury, May and Taylor, the
final note is sung by Taylor and is Bb5, sung in falsetto, consequently ending the operatic section, and
moving onto the hard rock

Benito Mussolini, AKA Il Dulce
Benito Mussolini, known as Il Duce, was the founder of the totalitarian form of government known as
Fascism. However that was not enough recognition; Mussolini wanted to demonstrate to the world
that he could be a successful ruler as well. Mussolini came to power and remained in power primarily
due to the actions of the Italian Blackshirts. As the Blackshirts maintained law and order, terrorized
political opponents, defended Italy, and marched on Rome, Mussolini successfully ruled as dictator.
Controlled and led by Mussolini, the Italian Blackshirts also known as the Squadre d Azione, were
made up of war veterans and young people led by ringleaders. The Blackshirt uniform consisted of a
green jacket and trouser with a black shirt and tie. The green colors were similar to that of the army
uniforms, but the black shirt and tie differentiated the Blackshirts from the other combat forces. The
Blackshirts were first created on March 23, 1919 and played a vital role in the rule of Mussolini.
Benito Mussolini s rise to power primarily relied on the Blackshirts march on Rome. On October 24,
1922, Mussolini hosted a Fascist convention in Naples as the reason for the March on Rome. There he
declared, Either the government will be given to us, or we will seize it by marching on Rome.
Mussolini s plan was to threaten to occupy the nation s capital of Rome with his forces, the
Blackshirts, and pressure King Victor Emmanuel III into inviting him into the government.

The Importance Of Obesity In The United States
The basic aim of the paper is to carry out research work on the social concern which I have selected
obesity. The topic of obesity has been selected because it has become a major social concern of the
United States as well as other industrialized countries. Information related to the research of obesity
will be helpful for determining major causes and adverse consequences which are associated with
obesity in the U.S. This topic was selected with the hopes in finding effective ways which can be used
for preventing the ever increasing numbers of obesity in the world. While a lot of people try to blame
children, and even adults, being overweight and obese on genetics, that does not play as crucial of a
role as people try to make it sounds. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As stated previously, along with home and school based intervention, it needs to get even bigger with
community and government based interventions. Education is the key. By organizing community
activities, walks can be planned to encourage physical activity, paths can be made for children to ride
bikes on, and playgrounds can be established for things like basketball and other physical activity. By
coming together as a community and encouraging these things within our children, obesity can
decrease significantly over the next five to ten years. Preparing foods at home and leaving fast food
chains alone is also a major factor in preventing obesity. The fast food industry has become a huge
target in the obesity rate. Erci Schlosser s surprise best seller, Fast Food Nation, featured some
familiar demonization arguments: A cynical industry targets children, reshapes their eating habits (it is
hugely profitable to increase the size and the fat content of their portions ), and literally spongers an
epidemic ( no other nation in history has gotten so far so fast ) (Kersh Morone,

Nursing Safety Issues
Safety is a small measure that can make a big impact on a patient in the clinical setting. In some cases,
it can even cost patients their lives. According to the Online Journal of Issues in Nursing, safety is
defined as a tool to minimize risk of harm to patients and providers through both system effectiveness
and individual performance (Barnsteiner, 2011). Safety problems can range from the nurse not
knowing how to work certain equipment, or the nurse recording values wrong because he or she is
distracted. Either way, these safety issues impact the clinical setting in a negative way. In order to have
a functional, safe clinical environment, time and money must be spent to keep the hospital in working
order and the nurses in the correct mindset. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first thing a nurse can do is to always remember that they are a patient advocate. In the situation
of an OR nurse watching a doctor perform surgery, being a patient advocate is key. The nurse s patient
is unconscious and cannot speak for themselves. Watching to make sure that whatever part of the body
is being worked on is thoroughly inspected and all tools used in the surgical procedure are accounted
for is one of the most effective ways that a nurse can intervene. Being a patient advocate also means
telling the surgeon when a nurse happens to find something left behind. This advocacy would create
an environment of communication to promote communication between all team members. Nurses can
also count the surgical items being used. To prevent leaving surgical items inside patients, the
Association of perioperative Registered Nurses recommends counting all sponges, sharps, and related
miscellaneous items at five different times: (1) before the procedure to establish a baseline, (2) before
closure of a cavity within a cavity, (3) before wound closure begins, (4) at skin closure, and (5) at the
time of permanent staff relief of either the scrub person or the circulating nurse (Treadwell, 2013).

The Effects Of Father Involvement
Fathers should spend time with their children because it can help them perform better in school, it can
help with their development, and help them flourish in life. The dad effect starts as early as birth. A
review of studies by Father Involvement Research Alliance shows that babies with more involved are
more likely to be emotionally secure, confident in new situations, and eager to explore their
surroundings. According to Sarah Allen, PhD and Kerry Daly, PhD in May 2007 the main idea about
this subject is The Effects of Father Involvement . Infants with fathers that are highly involved in their
lives are better problem solvers as toddlers and have a higher IQs by age three. School aged children
of involved fathers are also better academic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ellis, Yasmine S. Khan, Victor W. Harris, Ricki McWilliams, and Diana Converse states that fathers
have a huge impact on children s well being. They start off stating that American families have
changed dramatically over the last century. Currently, about one half of all children in the United
States will live apart from their fathers some time during their childhood because their parents have
separated (Smith, n.d.). Of all children born in the year 2000 to married parents, 50 percent will
experience the divorce of their parents before they reach their 18th birthday (Fagan, 2000). In
addition, the proportion of births to unmarried women has increased greatly in recent decades, rising
from 5 percent in 1960 to 41 percent in 2011 (Child Trend Data Bank, 2013). Fathers are different
from mothers in how they play with their children, mothers more likely nurture their children in
contrast because fathers spend more time engaging in stimulating playful activities and promoting and
advising independence. When you have fathers that spend time with you at a young age will most
likely develop greater abilities to start school with higher levels of academic readiness according to
Allen and Daly in 2007 and throughout development, high levels of father involvement have also been
associated with greater child tendencies to be more patient and have increased aptitudes for handling
the ongoing stresses associated with schooling and

Robert Peel Research Paper
On February 5, 1788 in Lancashire, England, Robert Peel was born to his parents, Ellen Yates and
Robert Peel, where he would become the eldest boy of eleven children. His family made their fortune
in textile manufacture after they had dealt their hand in the weaving industry. Robert Peel was
homeschooled by Rev. James Hargreaves until he was ten years old and moved to a Tamworth school
in Drayton Manor. Throughout his studies at Harrow, Peel was awarded with several honors such as a
double First in Classics as well as the same in Mathematics and Physics. In 1809, the young man
began the long road towards his law career at Lincoln s Inn. However, his father obtained Peel the title
of Cashel in Co. Tipperary and he commenced the beginning of his life long parliamentary career. At
the opening of parliament in late January 1810, Robert Peel gave a forty minute speech and was
applauded when he seconded the reply to the King s speech. He was a Tory by nature, therefore he
supported Portland s government. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, he dove into the state of criminal law and began investigating immediately. One of the
very intelligent techniques Peel used while he was in office was to research and learn about the subject
he was currently working on so he would have more knowledge on the subject and make his case
clearer to the House of Commons. Robert passed eight pieces of legislation from 1822 and 1827.
Therefore, he changed criminal law forever. Also, Mr. Peel repealed more than 200 statutes that were
said to be outdated. In early 1822, he suggested the idea that a House of Commons Select Committee
be assembled in order to oversee the London police. Unfortunately, the proposal was rejected because
a system could not be created in a free society. Robert Peel was not pleased with this action and
continued successfully to make it happen. The Metropolitan Police Force was created in

Why A Parent s Help And Guidance Important For A Child s...
Whilst I would consider a parent s help and guidance important in a child s linguistic development,
this development would be impossible without innately organized circuitry to do the learning (210,
Pinker). Therefore, a language cannot simply be taught. The human brain can seemingly process
information in some way that is involuntary and requires no real conscious effort; the only type of
help or guidance a child requires is exposure to a stimulus. Therefore, I believe that a parent s help and
guidance is not imperative, it is just helpful in an infant s linguistic progress.
There are different, quite opposing theories as to how children actually acquire language. On the one
hand, in discussing the formal, nativist approach, grammar is conceptualized as a set of abstract
categories, structures and principles, and constraints that are genetically encoded as an innate
Universal Grammar (319, Genetti). On the other hand, the discourse based theory states that grammar
is viewed as a set of forms and functions that are constantly being shaped by the mental processes and
communicative needs of speakers and hearers as they use language in everyday talk (discourse) (319,
Genetti). Although I do consider the latter discourse theory to be important in a child s language
development, as a child will to some degree imitate their caregiver, they will only do this when they
are mentally ready and capable to do so. Therefore the nativist theory is a very credible concept in

Irvings American Progeny Essay
Irvings American Progeny
Washington Irving had the unique opportunity of helping a new nation forge its own identity. America,
fresh out of the revolution, looked for an author to take charge and create something that seemed to be
missing from the newly born nation. He took this responsibility seriously and made a mythology that
founded an American literary tradition. He took bits and pieces from the Old World and incorporated
them into the New in such a manner that what he wrote appeared original, and yet tied into a tradition
that was centuries old. He did this in a manner that astonished many Europeans who believed an
American could never produce literature with such a strong English foundation. Although Irving relied
heavily on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Irving used his characters as depictions of American ideals and emotions in order to show the drastic
change that had recently occurred.
Sleeping through the American Revolution forced Rip Van Winkle to cope with the amazing changes
that had taken place while he was asleep. Rip s country has changed its name. On the hotel sign,
George III has given way to George Washington. Rip is no longer even Rip Van Winkle; his own son
now answers to that designation, (Hedges, 140). From Rip s point of view, the village he left
represented private turmoil and public tranquility. At the story s end, Rip enjoys private tranquility in a
village given over to public turmoil. It is almost as if the one is the price that Rip has to pay for the
other, (Roth, 158 159). Rip s world had undergone unpredictable changes, but he quickly got back into
the swing of his old easygoing life swapping stories outside of the hotel.
Irving also demonstrated the volatility of the times by his definition of history. Irving s introduction of
Ichabod Crane defines a particular problem of the early American writer. In this by place of nature, he
writes, there abode, in a remote period of American history, that is to say, some thirty years since, a
worthy wight of the name Ichabod Crane. The archaic substantive wight serves to emphasize the

All My Sons By Arthur Miller
All My Sons is a play by Arthur Miller which is set after the second world war but brings in
information concerning things that took place during the war. It is about a successful businessman, Joe
Keller, who during the war, in the name of fulfilling his so called familial obligations, fails to
recognise the importance of society when making decisions as he is blinded by lust for money
(Ternate, 2016) and his strong desire to save his business for his son to take over. This review aims to
describe and give personal responses to the book. Arthur Miller s All My Sons, explores a man s
possible obsession with family and how he uses it to justify his wrongdoings .
Arthur Miller is considered one of the greatest American playwrights of the 20th century. He was born
on the 17th of October 1915 in Harlem, New York to an immigrant family of Polish and Jewish
descent. His affluent family lost everything in the Wall Street Crash of 1929, so he worked odd jobs
and eventually attended the University of Michigan. All My Sons was a success when it was published
in 1947, running for almost a full year on Broadway and earning the playwright his first Tony Award
for Best Author. He married three times and had four children. Miller died on February 10, 2005
surrounded by family and friends. He died of heart failure, after battling cancer and pneumonia, at his
home in Roxbury, Connecticut. He was 89 years old. (Biography.com, 2017).

The Life Of A Pharmacy Technician

The Life of A Pharmacy Technician
During the years, Pharmacy has became one of many huge professions to take. Numerous people will
tell you that, you do not hanve to go to school to become a Pharmacy Technician; but if you do not
know anything about this profession you are going in clueless. Fortis college was my greatest
experiance, with the most amazing people people, and teachers. If it was not for school I would

for a pharmacy that is needed. Being fast at what you do with know mistakes is a major task to know
in a pharmacy world. In retail pharmacy there are many prescriptions a day, so speed for counting and

with competetitors, this is where our speed needs to be, to get patients in and out with smiling faces.

Analysis Of Barbie Doll By Marge Piercy
Barbie Doll , is a poem written by Marge Piercy in 1936, that clearly delivers strong feminist views
about the pressures and standards that women are forced to live with. The poem is a depressing take,
describing a young girl s life beginning with her birth and ending with her ironic death. The poem
progresses and tells how the pressures of being a woman affect the girl s life and influence her actions.
The poem shows problem in society is inequality between sexes and the answer is feminism it is
equality for all.
This poem opens with a girl s uneventful and normal birth. As a young child, the girl was presented
dolls that did pee pee / and miniature GE stoves and irons / and wee lipsticks the color of cherry
candy. (Chesnutt, 349) this was societies standers encroaching on her life and molding her to be a
socially acceptable woman. The toys were meant to prepare her for the expectations she would have
later in life, expectations that a woman should raise children, take care of the babies, feed the family,
do the laundry, do household chores, and look beautiful while doing it. It is proven in a study that sex
trait stereotypes were found to develop in a linear fashion between the ages of 5 and 11, so when
young girls are given toys to stereotype their futures it really does affect them. (Best, et al.) The first
stanza ends with the girl s puberty years and the realization of society s standards of beauty as she is
told of her great big nose and fat legs . (Chesnutt, 349)

Persuasive Essay About Snow Day
Damascus, Maryland usually gets 2 days of snow if not less per year. Which is why it s essential for
every kid living in Montgomery County to make the best of their snow day when it actually comes.
Snow days are very enjoyable for every kid, but it is sometimes difficult to find what you re going to
do. When you first wake up, make sure it s early. Before you play in the snow, you have to celebrate
because, no school! You want the first of the snow because once people have already walked all over
the experience isn t as good. After you ve embraced the fresh snow, get the neighbors. Ask them to
come outside so that you can have an even better snow day with awesome snowball fights. The more
neighbors you have, the better the day. It s always nice to have a hot drink when you come in from the
cold and hot chocolate is perfect. So, ask your parents if they can make some hot chocolate that will
be ready as soon as you come in from your snow day. I always make sure that they put a ton of
marshmallows in mine, so that the hot chocolate will be ten times better. A competitive snowball fight
is the typical snow day activity. Don t do the fight late in the day because you won t have any more
energy. Which is why you should do the fight at the beginning of the day. First, make the teams, but
make sure they are evenly separated. Sometimes it is even fun to get everyone to gang up on one
person. If you re not that person. Next, build snow forts. These forts are good for more protection
during the snowball fight. You need to make sure the fort is sturdy with no cracks and no visible grass,
so sleds are helpful for support. Another helpful tactic when getting prepared for a snowball fight is to
make a supply of snowballs. This is helpful if you are getting annihilated by the other team; you ll
have back up so that you don t lose. Make sure that the other team doesn t steal your snowballs
though. It s also fun to just make forts not just for snowball fights but for sitting in. Go to where your
parents have shoveled the snow from the driveway and start digging into it. You have to make sure
this fort has a lot of support! If you crawl into it and it collapses it can be very dangerous. Another
idea of where to build a

American Pie Essay
American Pie
With every aspect of our lives we are making a point, arguing a belief, or refuting some other aspect of
our existence. Aesthetic pieces, most avidly poems and songs, argue a message both in the lyrics and
in the meaning posed between the lines. American Pie, in a multitude of ways, argues that American
lives and memories are closely intertwined with the music of the time period. Not only does American
Pie argue a message it also pulls many generations together. Today, thirty years after the initial release,
American Pie still has an effect in our music and continues to be popular with all age groups. Don
McLean accomplishes this task through using the context of the time period, placement of words, the

Essentially, the late 1960s and early 1970s are an in between stage for America, where people were
exploring the many options in their lives. The release of American Pie in 1971 was a landmark in pop
music history because the song was eight minutes and thirty two seconds long. Later, it was divided
up into two parts and then turned into the version that is known today (www.don mclean.com). Now
that the time period that surrounded the release of American Pie is established it is easier to understand
the song because it can be read more in context.
The music of American Pie harkens back to a time of rock n roll, pianos, and acoustic guitars. A time
when the music was upbeat and peppy, causing you to want to jump up and dance. However, the
music during the time of its creation lacks the calming effect that is acquainted with the music of
previous eras. American Pie embodies many qualities of the music during the 1950s, including the
simplicity of the chord structures overall, the clear vocals, and well known and used instruments. With
the use of simple but repetitive chords, Don McLean is able to shift the attention from the musical
facet of the song back to the lyrics and the individual person listening to it.
At the opening of American Pie, Don McLean starts the song at a slow pace but then progressively
speeds up the pace through the first chorus. After the first chorus the music

Social Order Theory In The Giver
Some would say society is unpredictable and uncontrollable; which some may view this as either a
negative or positive. There have been multiple theories of what a more organized and harmonious
society would need, also known as social order theories. According to Reference.com, social order
theory is the way a society is organized which includes the rules and standards that are set in order to
maintain that organization . We can see one an example of a social order being put to practice in a
society through the social science fiction film The Giver. We can also see how this theory fits under
the collectivism and rational quadrant on the spectrum of order. And lastly, we see a greater
connection between the social order in the film and Marx s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

First, Durkheim believes that society is already there rather than us creating it. In The Giver we see
how the elders go against the ideology since they are the ones who try to control and regulate their
society, in other words they are creating it. Second, Durkheim also believes the crime is a part of
society and plays a significant role since it forms solidarity amongst people in the society.etc. In the
film, we see that the elders do everything possible in order to prevent any crime from occurring.
Durkheim also is on the non rational spectrum where he is concerned about feelings instead of goal
orientation. In the film, the elders are unconcerned about feelings, and even take emotions away, in
order to maintain their social order which is their main goal. On the other hand, Marx believes that
there are two types of people in the world; the owners and the worker, whom are hostile towards each
other. In the beginning of the film, they mention how they took away certain divisions such as fame,
popularity, etc. so that people will not become envious. This shows that they understand the division
of groups can cause conflict which correlates with Marx

The sharia deals mostly with tazir, jinayat and hadd. These offenses are to be heard in front of the qadi,
who is a judge. Sharia courts consist of courts of first instance and appeals courts. Cases that are fairly
small such as minor civil and criminal cases are seen in the summary courts of first instance. A single
qadi hears all summary court hearings. Then the general courts handle all cases that are more severe,
three qadis listen to cases that entail serious crimes such as murder. Decisions made in these courts
can be appealed through the sharia appeals court. The appeals court has three departments, personal
status suits, penal suits, and all other types of suits. A panel of several qadis as well as the Chief
Justice hear all the cases. Religious law as a whole, especially Islamic law, as it is very strict and

Arguments Against Egalitarianism
In this essay, I will explain the view of prioritarianism as an alternative to egalitarianism, as it avoids
the main problem facing egalitarianism. Albeit that prioritarianism withstands this problem, it brings
with it more problems than it solves, so I will then refute prioritarianism and suggest we instead move
to sufficientarianism. In Derek Parfit s Equality and Priority (1997) he introduces the idea of
prioritarianism as an alternative to egalitarianism, this is to avoid the levelling down objection that
egalitarianism faces. Egalitarianism claims that there is intrinsic moral value in some sort of equality,
be it justice, opportunity, resources etc. (Arneson, 2013). The levelling down objection claims that
there can be a case where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prioritarianism claims that people who are worse off should be given moral priority over those who
are better off (Parfit, 1997, p. 213). If we imagine a society where there are rich people and very rich
people, and another society where there are very poor people and poor people, and getting people
from very poor to poor gives the same increase in utility as going from rich to very rich. Then,
according to egalitarianism, getting people from rich to very rich would be just as good as getting
people from very poor to poor. Prioritarianism, however, claims that getting people from very poor to
poor matters more because they are worse off, even though the total increase in utility would be the
same as getting the rich people to very rich. The prioritarian claim is not one of aiming to reduce
equality, as if there was just one person in the world who is worse off, and no one else exists, we
would be just be obliged to give him just as much benefit as we would a world where there are also
other people who were better off. Benefiting those who are worse off is not relative to those who are
better off, it is an absolute (Parfit, 1997). Prioritarianism avoids the levelling down objection because
if we imagine the case where there are very rich people and very poor people, as we are not aiming for
equality, making the very rich very poor would bring no good. A prioritarian would only be motivated
to benefit the very poor as they re the ones who are worse off (Parfit, 1997). This is more in line with
moral intuitions, making prioritarianism a more attractive view than

The issue of higher rates of suicide in Western society is highlighted throughout Tribe to help the

The Effects Of Domestic Violence On The United States Of...
The title of this feature film that I will be providing an analysis on is titled Enough. The production
company is Columbia Pictures and this film was made in 2002. Enough was filmed in the United
States of America and directed by Michael Apted. Director Michael Apted was born in England and he
is best known for his films for The World Is Not Enough, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the
Dawn Treader, and the film this analysis will focus on entitled Enough. The film Enough is relevant to
society because it exemplifies how spousal abuse and abuse against women is prevalent concern in
society. This issue of domestic abuse can range from sexual assault to murder. This is a very serious
concern that not only women, but men as well may face in society. Domestic violence can distress any
type of person regardless of their religion, ethnicity, age, or socio economic status. Violence of this
sort is also relevant to society because it impacts more than just simply the victim; it tends to be a
cycle that may transfer to children whom may repeat the cycle or may enter abusive relationships
themselves. Society is impacted from this because it carries on into many social services or agencies
such as police courts, schools, hospitals, etc. I think the director made this film to give some sort of
insight into violence against women, specifically spousal abuse. I think Michael Apted also made this
film to raise awareness and allow viewers to realize that it is important to get

Supernatural Elements In Macbeth
It is not often that Shakespeare coming alive on the big screen makes it any better, but Justin Kurzel
managed in Macbeth (2015) to both be true to the classic and contribute with his own modern twist,
both technically and plotwise.
Shakespeare can be interpreted in many different ways. Justin Krezel has chosen a very modern
interpretation, which tries to make Macbeth s actions more clearly understood by the viewer, by
introducing the idea of Macbeth having post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as a product of many

include establishing firm registry in bomb proof vaults that will shield the firm s documents and data
from disasters such as terrorist attacks. Such will ensure that the records of the firm are not tampered

within the firm s premises to create better channels of evacuation during fire outbreaks. In addition,
smoke detectors and alarms should also be installed to signify and create warnings in case of such.
Establishing access codes to data registries is another security measure that the firm can uphold. This
will ensure that confidential data and information is only managed by a certain level of management.
In addition, during threats such as civil unrests or riots data will be managed effectively (Thejendra,

The U.S. invasion of Grenada and the fall of its Marxist government can be viewed as part of a greater
regional conflict. This conflict involved the U.S. and it s Central American and Caribbean allies on
one side and Fidel Castro s Cuba, the Sandinista government of Nicaragua and Marxist guerrilla
armies on the other. President Reagan and his administration were somewhat worried that the Marxist

of anxiety because the new rulers of Grenada had imposed a 24 hour curfew and had ordered violators

This war received a lot of attention nationally as well, as internationally. On a national level
Americans were mostly supportive because of the buzz on the Cuban built airstrip and its hundreds of
Cuban worker fighters that were claimed to be looming at their back door.
Americans felt threatened by the soviet weapons being stored at the new Cuban built airport in

Narrative Frames and Interpretive Models in Troilus and Criseyde
Interpretive certainty is purposely elusive in Geoffrey Chaucer s Troilus and Criseyde . Meaning
within the text is convoluted and continually renegotiated. Any attempt to design a singular coherent
stable source of meaning is problematic at best. Throughout the work, narrative frames are broken and
reordered and the validity of any fixed interpretive model is challenged. Virtually every broad
thematic discussion developed is potentially qualified or compromised by the presence of a key figure,
the narrator of the poem. As an ever present observer, the narrator is both author and audience to a

The personality of the narrator is foregrounded and exists as a character engaged in an open dialogue
with the reader. The narrator is thoroughly unreliable in his ability to serve as the sole source of
information and insight, a figure possessing absolute control of the text. The authority of the narrator
is paradoxically undermined and underscored by admission of his own inadequacies in shaping the
text.
Whether from mythological beings, ancient writers, a fictitious mentor, or the actual reader of the
poem, the narrator claims to need support from outside sources in order to effectively tell the tale. The
narrator portrays himself alternately as reluctant, ignorant, or simply incapable of fulfilling his duties.
He invokes the powers of the Furies, Cleo, Venus, and the Fates at the beginning of each book to
inspire and enhance his narrative skills. The invocations not only serve as symbolic bridges to the
actions that follow in each book, but also allow the possibility of distance to develop between the
narrator and his creative responsibility to the work. By invoking the gods, the narrator could be seen
as an intermediary, a conduit, a pawn, rather than an active participant.
The narrator does not, however, wish to completely shirk his creative contribution to the text. Instead,
he attempts to qualify it. He likens his skill

The Role Of Women During The Patriarchy Society
The roles of women during the Patriarchy Society influenced feminism throughout Shelley s novel.
Each individual woman in Frankenstein fulfilled a different role, therefore being seen in a unique way
through the eyes of society in the story. This can be displayed through the actions of Agatha towards
Felix when the monster states, Soon after this the young man returned, bearing on his shoulder a load
of wood. The girl met him at the door and helped relieve him of his burden (page 97). This illustrates
feminism through the view of the woman feeling that it was her duty to help the man of the house.
Feeling that she needed to assist Felix, Agatha demonstrates the role that women play in a feminist
environment. These specific roles are positively viewed through the eyes of each individual, as seen
when Safie recalls the memories of her mother. The monster narrates, Safie related that her mother
was a Christian Arab, seized and made a slave by the Turks; recommended by her beauty, she had won
the heart of the father of Safie, who married her (page 110). He states how the young girl spoke in
high and enthusiastic terms of her mother, who born in freedom, spurned the bondage to which she
was now reduced (page 110) which in turn clearly illustrates how much Safie adores her mother. The
role of feminism in this situation is positive due to the viewpoint being from another woman.
Similarly, this role is also displayed when Justine stands trial for the murder of Henry Clerval.

Ironic Dynamics Between Characters In The Stranger By...
In the novel, The Stranger, the author, Albert Camus, creates a world of ironic dynamics between
characters, while challenge the non conformist protagonist, Meursault, to live in the same world aware
of said dynamics. Camus introduces the readers to characters like Raymond Sintes and old Salamano,
who live these ironic dynamics to a great extent. They both physically punish their problems: for
Raymond it is his ungrateful cheating prostitute, and for Salamano, his dilapidated spaniel. Despite
their apparent distaste and hatred for them, once they lose them, they seem to develop a need to have
them back in their life, their routine. They essentially lose whatever power they have over them, and
feel powerless without them. Camus also provides the reader with a very subtle example of irony in
Maman s late relationship with her fiancé, Thomas Pérez. Living in a retirement home, Maman
experienced many of her peers pass, or come close to their death, illuminating the mortality in the
human condition: death is inevitable. By accepting death as inevitable Maman was able to take
another chance at life, giving her a reason for taking on a fiancé near her end. After being imprisoned
for murder, Meursault feels he did nothing wrong, even realizing he has been right his whole life
about everything before his execution. Through the implementation of such ironic dynamics, of which
contrasts with Meursault s own dynamics, Camus illustrates how others denounce Meursault for his

As said by Ed Gonzalez in his article about Close up, the movie is still definitive film on film

Bazin might react to Abbas Kiarostami s film. Throughout this course so far, shots and editing have
been an integral part of what has been covered. Close up has a unique approach to how it is directed.
Considered a mockumentary, it has all the styles of a documentary with some twists. The close up shot

The mummy complex is when cinema satisfies the desire to preserve. If he could give a reaction to
this Bazin would say that this whole film is real. Due to the fact that film is supposed to be trusted in
his mind and should show reality it means the film is all real. If this were the case though it would
make all movies look real. There is a knowledge that film is scripted for the most part and what we see
regularly is rarely real. This does preserve reality in Bazin s mind though. With the kicking of the can,
it shows that although it is scripted it is not a fake movie. There is still the sense of reality in every
scene. The can saves that, it preserves that sense. The mise en scene in Kiarostami s Close up leans
more towards the realistic side. The aspects of this movie continually fall under the category of

For example, an officer will be more on edge when in an alley at night than he/she will be on the side of a highway at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Lalwani, Khagram, Evans, Jackson, and Lindenber (2007, p1), New Orleans was built on a natural levee adjacent to the massive Mississippi river that was not embayed and therefore not protected from flooding. When French colonizer, Jean Baptiste La Moyne, Sieur de Bienville, founded New Orleans in 1718, it was considered a strategically significant port of trade between North America and the rest of the world due to the Mississippi River and its vast network of tributaries (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p1). On the other hand, the city s first chief engineer, Del la Tour, and geologists Kolb and Van Loplin found the site unsuitable for a city because the threat of flooding (Lalwani, et al., ... They believed that the creation of more levees would force the Mississippi into a single channel resulting in the river forming a deeper channel (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p4). Forshey surveyed the levee system, found there to be more than 847 miles of levees along the Mississippi, and suggested the creation of 159 more miles of levees to fill in gaps between the existing levees (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p4). The basis of the exclusive creation of levees proposal is the river naturally forming a deeper channel as a result of the levees. On the contrary, Captain Andrew A. Humphreys and the U.S. Corps of Topographical Engineers refuted the assertion that the levee system allowed the river to deepen its channel. He said that hard clay prevented the current from scouring the river bed, and eventually levees would result in raising the river. However, he also admitted that by careful management, levees could be built to withstand flooding from the river, (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p4). We then were asked to test the solubility of our selected neutral compound with hexane, water, methanol, and ethyl acetate to find the solvent that only dissolved the neutral compound while introduced to heat. Once the solvent was chosen, we purified the compound by recrystallization, and then concluded that my neutral organic compound was trans stilbene. ₪ Introduction ₪ It s essential for any chemist to grasp acid/base chemistry. My compound had the melting point of trans stilbene at 121 123°C which, was just lower than the PubChem recorded melting temperature of 122 125°C. Concluded that my neutral organic compound was trans stilbene because of the mixed melting points similarity. If the experiment were repeated it would be important to possibly have students use pipets or some measured method to rinse their product during recrystallization so that mistakes such as over rinsing occur less and are more precise. Also another improvement that could be made is to perform more tests to the acid that had been a nucleophile to better identify its transformation. Staffed by a board certified physician and a fellowship trained physician assistant (PA) as well as technicians to handle imaging, casts, and splints. The average wait for a sports medicine orthopedic surgeon is three to four weeks. When possible the patients will be placed on the schedule of an orthopedic surgeon that is available the day of their injury. However, if the schedule is full the patient receives care from the PA or board certified Family Medicine physician with a subspecialty in sports medicine. This will give the newer orthopedic surgeons an opportunity to see new patients, when this is not possible the patients will be still be able to receive the care they need by the PA without having to wait for an appointment. It is considered to be one of the greatest songs of all time and has been number one many times. It is also one of my personal favourite songs. The song, instead of being song form, has no chorus and is split up into different sections, an intro, ballad, operatic passage, hard rock section and reflective coda. However that was not enough recognition; Mussolini wanted to demonstrate to the world that he could be a successful ruler as well. Mussolini came to power and remained in power primarily due to the actions of the Italian Blackshirts. As the Blackshirts maintained law and order, terrorized political opponents, defended Italy, and marched on Rome, Mussolini successfully ruled as dictator. Controlled and led by Mussolini, the Italian Blackshirts also known as the Squadre d Azione, were made up of war veterans and young people led by ringleaders. The Blackshirt uniform consisted of a green jacket and trouser with a black shirt and tie. The green colors were similar to that of the army uniforms, but the black shirt and tie differentiated the Blackshirts from the other combat forces. The Blackshirts were first created on March 23, 1919 and played a vital role in the rule of Mussolini. Benito Mussolini s rise to power primarily relied on the Blackshirts march on Rome. On October 24, 1922, Mussolini hosted a Fascist convention in Naples as the reason for the March on Rome. There he declared, Either the government will be given to us, or we will seize it by marching on Rome. By coming together as a community and encouraging these things within our children, obesity can decrease significantly over the next five to ten years. Preparing foods at home and leaving fast food chains alone is also a major factor in preventing obesity. The fast food industry has become a huge target in the obesity rate. According to the Online Journal of Issues in Nursing, safety is defined as a tool to minimize risk of harm to patients and providers through both system effectiveness and individual performance (Barnsteiner, 2011). Safety problems can range from the nurse not knowing how to work certain equipment, or the nurse recording values wrong because he or she is distracted. Either way, these safety issues impact the clinical setting in a negative way. In the situation of an OR nurse watching a doctor perform surgery, being a patient advocate is key. The nurse s patient is unconscious and cannot speak for themselves. Watching to make sure that whatever part of the body is being worked on is thoroughly inspected and all tools used in the surgical procedure are accounted for is one of the most effective ways that a nurse can intervene. Being a patient advocate also means telling the surgeon when a nurse happens to find something left behind. This advocacy would create an environment of communication to promote communication between all team members. Nurses can also count the surgical items being used. To prevent leaving surgical items inside patients, the Association of perioperative Registered Nurses recommends counting all sponges, sharps, and related miscellaneous items at five different times: (1) before the procedure to establish a baseline, (2) before closure of a cavity within a cavity, (3) before wound closure begins, (4) at skin closure, and (5) at the time of permanent staff relief of either the scrub person or the circulating nurse (Treadwell, 2013). Of all children born in the year 2000 to married parents, 50 percent will experience the divorce of their parents before they reach their 18th birthday (Fagan, 2000). • 12. Why A Parent s Help And Guidance Important For A Child s... Whilst I would consider a parent s help and guidance important in a child s linguistic development, this development would be impossible without innately organized circuitry to do the learning (210, Pinker). Therefore, a language cannot simply be taught. The human brain can seemingly process information in some way that is involuntary and requires no real conscious effort; the only type of help or guidance a child requires is exposure to a stimulus. Therefore, I believe that a parent s help and guidance is not imperative, it is just helpful in an infant s linguistic progress. There are different, quite opposing theories as to how children actually acquire language. On the one hand, in discussing the formal, nativist approach, grammar is conceptualized as a set of abstract categories, structures and principles, and constraints that are genetically encoded as an innate Universal Grammar (319, Genetti). On the other hand, the discourse based theory states that grammar is viewed as a set of forms and functions that are constantly being shaped by the mental processes and communicative needs of speakers and hearers as they use language in everyday talk (discourse) (319, Genetti). Although I do consider the latter discourse theory to be important in a child s language development, as a child will to some degree imitate their caregiver, they will only do this when they are mentally ready and capable to do so. Therefore the nativist theory is a very credible concept in child ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

America, fresh out of the revolution, looked for an author to take charge and create something that seemed to be missing from the newly born nation. He took this responsibility seriously and made a mythology that founded an American literary tradition. He took bits and pieces from the Old World and incorporated them into the New in such a manner that what he wrote appeared original, and yet tied into a tradition that was centuries old. He did this in a manner that astonished many Europeans who believed an American could never produce literature with such a strong English foundation. Although Irving relied heavily on ... Sleeping through the American Revolution forced Rip Van Winkle to cope with the amazing changes that had taken place while he was asleep. Rip s country has changed its name. On the hotel sign, George III has given way to George Washington. Rip is no longer even Rip Van Winkle; his own son now answers to that designation, (Hedges, 140). From Rip s point of view, the village he left represented private turmoil and public tranquility. At the story s end, Rip enjoys private tranquility in a village given over to public turmoil. It is almost as if the one is the price that Rip has to pay for the other, (Roth, 158 159). Rip s world had undergone unpredictable changes, but he quickly got back into the swing of his old easygoing life swapping stories outside of the hotel. Irving also demonstrated the volatility of the times by his definition of history. Irving s introduction of Ichabod Crane defines a particular problem of the early American writer. It is about a successful businessman, Joe Keller, who during the war, in the name of fulfilling his so called familial obligations, fails to recognise the importance of society when making decisions as he is blinded by lust for money (Ternate, 2016) and his strong desire to save his business for his son to take over. This review aims to describe and give personal responses to the book. Arthur Miller s All My Sons, explores a man s possible obsession with family and how he uses it to justify his wrongdoings . Analysis Of Barbie Doll By Marge Piercy Barbie Doll , is a poem written by Marge Piercy in 1936, that clearly delivers strong feminist views about the pressures and standards that women are forced to live with. The poem is a depressing take, describing a young girl s life beginning with her birth and ending with her ironic death. The poem progresses and tells how the pressures of being a woman affect the girl s life and influence her actions. The poem shows problem in society is inequality between sexes and the answer is feminism it is equality for all. This poem opens with a girl s uneventful and normal birth. As a young child, the girl was presented dolls that did pee pee / and miniature GE stoves and irons / and wee lipsticks the color of cherry candy. It is proven in a study that sex trait stereotypes were found to develop in a linear fashion between the ages of 5 and 11, so when young girls are given toys to stereotype their futures it really does affect them. So, ask your parents if they can make some hot chocolate that will be ready as soon as you come in from your snow day. I always make sure that they put a ton of marshmallows in mine, so that the hot chocolate will be ten times better. A competitive snowball fight is the typical snow day activity. Don t do the fight late in the day because you won t have any more energy. Which is why you should do the fight at the beginning of the day. There have been multiple theories of what a more organized and harmonious society would need, also known as social order theories. According to Reference.com, social order theory is the way a society is organized which includes the rules and standards that are set in order to maintain that organization . We can see one an example of a social order being put to practice in a society through the social science fiction film The Giver. Durkheim also is on the non rational spectrum where he is concerned about feelings instead of goal orientation. In the film, the elders are unconcerned about feelings, and even take emotions away, in order to maintain their social order which is their main goal. On the other hand, Marx believes that there are two types of people in the world; the owners and the worker, whom are hostile towards each other. • 27. Arguments Against Egalitarianism In this essay, I will explain the view of prioritarianism as an alternative to egalitarianism, as it avoids the main problem facing egalitarianism. Albeit that prioritarianism withstands this problem, it brings with it more problems than it solves, so I will then refute prioritarianism and suggest we instead move to sufficientarianism. In Derek Parfit s Equality and Priority (1997) he introduces the idea of prioritarianism as an alternative to egalitarianism, this is to avoid the levelling down objection that egalitarianism faces. Egalitarianism claims that there is intrinsic moral value in some sort of equality, be it justice, opportunity, resources etc. (Arneson, 2013). The levelling down objection claims that there can be a case where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prioritarianism claims that people who are worse off should be given moral priority over those who are better off (Parfit, 1997, p. 213). If we imagine a society where there are rich people and very rich people, and another society where there are very poor people and poor people, and getting people from very poor to poor gives the same increase in utility as going from rich to very rich. Then, according to egalitarianism, getting people from rich to very rich would be just as good as getting people from very poor to poor. Prioritarianism, however, claims that getting people from very poor to poor matters more because they are worse off, even though the total increase in utility would be the same as getting the rich people to very rich. The prioritarian claim is not one of aiming to reduce equality, as if there was just one person in the world who is worse off, and no one else exists, we would be just be obliged to give him just as much benefit as we would a world where there are also other people who were better off. Benefiting those who are worse off is not relative to those who are better off, it is an absolute (Parfit, 1997). Prioritarianism avoids the levelling down objection because if we imagine the case where there are very rich people and very poor people, as we are not aiming for equality, making the very rich very poor would bring no good. A prioritarian would only be motivated to benefit the very poor as they re the ones who are worse off (Parfit, 1997). The production company is Columbia Pictures and this film was made in 2002. Enough was filmed in the United States of America and directed by Michael Apted. Director Michael Apted was born in England and he is best known for his films for The World Is Not Enough, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and the film this analysis will focus on entitled Enough. The film Enough is relevant to society because it exemplifies how spousal abuse and abuse against women is prevalent concern in society. This issue of domestic abuse can range from sexual assault to murder. This is a very serious concern that not only women, but men as well may face in society. Domestic violence can distress any type of person regardless of their religion, ethnicity, age, or socio economic status. Violence of this sort is also relevant to society because it impacts more than just simply the victim; it tends to be a cycle that may transfer to children whom may repeat the cycle or may enter abusive relationships themselves. Society is impacted from this because it carries on into many social services or agencies such as police courts, schools, hospitals, etc. I think the director made this film to give some sort of insight into violence against women, specifically spousal abuse. • 36. The Role Of Women During The Patriarchy Society The roles of women during the Patriarchy Society influenced feminism throughout Shelley s novel. Each individual woman in Frankenstein fulfilled a different role, therefore being seen in a unique way through the eyes of society in the story. This can be displayed through the actions of Agatha towards Felix when the monster states, Soon after this the young man returned, bearing on his shoulder a load of wood. The girl met him at the door and helped relieve him of his burden (page 97). This illustrates feminism through the view of the woman feeling that it was her duty to help the man of the house. Feeling that she needed to assist Felix, Agatha demonstrates the role that women play in a feminist environment. These specific roles are positively viewed through the eyes of each individual, as seen when Safie recalls the memories of her mother. The monster narrates, Safie related that her mother was a Christian Arab, seized and made a slave by the Turks; recommended by her beauty, she had won the heart of the father of Safie, who married her (page 110). He states how the young girl spoke in high and enthusiastic terms of her mother, who born in freedom, spurned the bondage to which she was now reduced (page 110) which in turn clearly illustrates how much Safie adores her mother. The role of feminism in this situation is positive due to the viewpoint being from another woman. Similarly, this role is also displayed when Justine stands trial for the murder of Henry Clerval. ... They both physically punish their problems: for Raymond it is his ungrateful cheating prostitute, and for Salamano, his dilapidated spaniel. Despite their apparent distaste and hatred for them, once they lose them, they seem to develop a need to have them back in their life, their routine.
