The document introduces KAOS-G (Korean Alliance of Open Source GIS), a forum of 8 small software companies in South Korea that aims to promote open source GIS. KAOS-G works to develop open source GIS technologies, share knowledge and experiences, and help improve South Korea's open source GIS ecosystem. Its goals include developing an integrated open source GIS package, providing training, and hosting the FOSS4G International conference in 2015. The group has already conducted training sessions and supported the FOSS4G Korea 2013 conference. KAOS-G seeks to help small Korean companies grow through open source GIS and expand globally with technologies that comply with international standards.

In South Korea, Open Source Software Competence Plaza(of National IT Industry
Promotion Agency under Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning) takes charge of
Open source policies for promotion, marketing, incubating, and funding.
From 2004, test projects to use Open source software were conducted and Linux
started being used by Government and public organizations.
From 2008, there started some policies to make better Open source software eco
system throughout enhancement of software production, enlargement of market
base, creation of Open source demand, and international cooperation.
Korea Open Source Software Association established in 1999 is an organization for
software companies using Open source and invigorating Open source market in South
Korea.
Supporting international marketing(Global exhibition, Marketing consultant, etc.)
Trying to raise low awareness of Open source projects, license policy, and so on
Providing consulting service about how to use Open source software
Supporting Open source communities
Communities(OSGeo Korea Chapter, KAOS-G, etc)

Mobile Forecaster Weather Monitoring and Analyzing system currently used by
KMA(Korean Meteorological Administration) weather forecasters
This system uses GeoServer as a map server, PostGIS as database and OpenLayers for
display.
This system usually generates more than five thousand weather charts per day based on
70 million spatial data which is about 70 GB. In short, this system handles more than 70 GB
to generate over five thousand weather charts every day using OpenSource GIS.
