The letter from SAIC is valid. While TRICARE is continuing to monitor the investigation of the
incident and is taking additional steps to ensure the protection of patients’ information, you have
the option of receiving free credit monitoring and restoration services for one year.
• While we understand your reluctance to use your Social Security Number (SSN), the SSN is
the only way to affirmatively identify you. Without the SSN, there is a chance that your name
cannot be authenticated and you will not receive the service you are entitled to.
• If you choose the online service to request credit services, you can bypass the field that asks for
your SSN. However, if the bureau cannot immediately match your name and address to a credit
file you will receive a message indicating the user has an authentication error. The bureau will
try again, but only with the SSN can the authentication process be successful. Authentication can
be accomplished manually by calling the number displayed to speak to a credit specialist.
• If you are filling out the form to order your credit monitoring through the mail, you really need
to include your SSN on the form. Otherwise, the process will be slowed significantly. If you
are not comfortable with sending your information through the mail, we suggest that you
consider using the online credit service at www.idintegrity.com.
