1. Unit 57: Photography and Photographic Practise
Project Proposal
(P2, P3, M2, M3, D2, D3)
Candidate name: Theme: Architectural Exploration of Salford Quays
Predicted final outcome
For my final outcome I will be choosing 10 images from my collection of at least 50.
These images will be of Salford Quays and will contain a variety of different
aspects. I Most probably will take a few images of the bridge; These will be from all
different angles and heights. I will also try and get images of the Salford Quays front
water line. These will be taken from the other side of the water, having half of the
images with water, and the other half with the buildings.
Reasons for selection of theme (including inspiration from the work of others)
Joe Cornish- is a photographer that takes amazing landscapes. I love the way most
of his images are taken from a height and the colours are so vibrant, his images
really stand out, ad look amazing. The way his images are, he makes sure he used
all the photography techniques we have learnt about, and made sure the
composition is perfect.
Lesley Charmers- The way this photographer uses colours rich photos, and the way
she composes the images is really interesting because she fills an images with a lot
of the building but she also uses the dark blue water, and the dark blue sky to
canvas the buildings. This works really well because the images are all one similar
colour with the exceptions of the building and the lights on the buildings.
You can also see the way she uses colours in this image. This is because the wood is
2. a very natural colour, and not that vibrant but in the water, it’s is an extremely
wonderful shade of turquois. This makes the image stand out because there is a lot
of dull, and un-vibrant.
The composition of this images is very good because the wood runs basically
straight down the middle, allowing the images to almost have 2 half’s.

· IFCL metering with 63-zone Dual-Layer Sensor
I also will be using a tripod provided by college.
Techniques that will be used and how they will help convey the visual message
The technique’s I will be using are: Shutter speed, ISO Level, F-Stop, Composition.
I will change the shutter speed depending on what is in the image, This will be
based on the brightness and if anything is moving.
The ISO Level will be changed on the basis of me being inside or outside, looking
up in the sky, or down to the ground. This will all cause me to change the ISO.
The F-Stop on these images I will be taking will differ on the grounds of focus, and
detail. There will be a higher F-Stop to make sure hardly any of the image is blurry,
but I will lower the F-Stop if I see something that has to have a blurry background.
Location of shoot The location we be Salford Quays. Also known as Media City.
This will be good as it is an important part of Greater
Manchester. The area is filled with great building, and amazing
architectural landscapes.
