6. Safety & Viruses
• The simple act of scanning a QR cannot infect your
smartphone device.
• The worst it can do is lead you to a landing page that asks
you to download an App that could be malware.
• Non-existent issue for iPhone users. All apps in AppStore
are security tested by Apple.
• Bigger issue for Android devices. Google does NOT screen
apps that are in marketplace.
• Viruses will always be relevant to specific platforms where
security holes maybe found.

A virus must be part of an executable file.QR codes are not an executable file they lead you to a URL.The landing page may ask you to download an app that may have viruses in them so be smart before downloading anything.
There are several free services to generate QR codes. Typically a free service will include mobile ads at the bottom of the of the url page. Paid services are not very expensive if you wish to avoid the mobile ads. Here are a few QR codes generators. SmartyTags offers free or paid depending on how many you will be creating. They also offer analytics for tracking.
