What are these changes and what do they mean to business? In this week’s broadcast we’ll review the updates and fill you in on what it means to your social media strategy.

Since the launch of the internet a completely new pace of change and adoption has emerged. What would take years to mainstream now takes months, weeks and sometimes day . . . As I prepared for this weeks session I realized it was only 6 weeks ago that we talked about Google+ and what it offered compared to Facebook. Yet it seemed like it had to have been longer than that. Yet in the short 3 months since the launch of the Google+ project, in invitation only mode, A LOT has changed.
Google+ has made 100 updates and well, I don’t need to tell you that Facebook has made a ton of changes as well. Today we will do a quick review of what’s new on Google+, quickly cover what’s new on Facebook and what implication it has for business. Remember this is only a 15 minute webinar so we will give you an overview.
The new ticker looks a lot like twitter, quick short updates to existing longer updates.
Top news and recent news were eliminated and then brought back in slightly different way. (click) Now it is top stories since your last visit, MORE recent stories, and see new stories.
Now you can subscribe to newsfeeds and content not restricted. (click) Also, you can now be more specific about who you share content with by creating lists. Actually Facebook thinks they know what your lists should like and they create and populate them for you.
New Social Apps are embedded into Facebook now rather than listed as external links.New Verbs like Reading, Listening and Watching will be added to possible connections. The New focus is on “Serendipitous Experiences” with connected friends.
This is both the interesting and creepy all in one breath. Is similar to visual scrap booking
This is today’s secret word…(click) this is the button on you’ll see on our website to enter the word – we’ll send you the link to enter to win after the webinar!Everyone got it?? (advance slide…)

Hangouts and going mobile seem to be the biggest focus of the recent announcements, after the the open invitation to all interested parties to join Google+ - invited no longer needed. What is sorely missing is the business pages. While these enhancements are cool and it’s exciting to see Google+ evolve so quickly. What is clearly the elephant in the room is the lack of information on the business pages. Hangouts are supported with Anroid and Iphone
So… the fight for dominance continues…The upcoming changes in Facebook that have been launched means (click) if you connect all of your social platforms . . Music, movies, books etc. Facebook will automatically share with the world what you are doing without you having to do a thing. It seems to me the amount of “noise” being generated will be significant. (click) How will you now digest all of the information from family and friends and more importantly – what does this mean to business marketing on Facebook?? Will pages become apps? Through these changes in Facebook, they will now be gathering more information than ever from us if we chose to share our entire social experience yet it may be more difficult for marketers to be heard above the noise.Back at the end of June we were pretty excited about the launch of Google+. It is clean and easy and we loved the circles and hangout features. (click) Many of my social media friends migrated over but many of my IRL friends didn’t. So over time I must admit I started to lose interest. I do like Google+ a lot. Now that is has open invite I am hopeful there will be more community there to share. (click) BUT from a business perspective the missing Business pages is the elephant in the room. In talking with an industry person whose agency works one of the few business pages in beta on Google+ they were confident we would see business pages in the next few weeks. I hope so. It is what will take Google+ to the next level and add value for everyone involved.
Questions?Let’s continue the conversation …I wrote a more in depth comparative blog discussing FB v Plus and it’s posted on our site. Leave a comment on my blog for an extra entry in the Amazon gift card drawing at the end of the month…
