3. Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is the
process of managing the entire lifecycle of a
product from its conception, through design
and manufacture, to service and disposal.
PLM integrates people, data, processes and
business systems and provides a product
information backbone for companies and
their extended enterprise.
4. Product lifecycle management (PLM) should
be distinguished from 'Product life cycle
management (marketing)' (PLCM).
PLM describes the engineering aspect of a
product, from managing descriptions and
properties of a product through its
development and useful life; whereas, PLCM
refers to the commercial management of life
of a product in the business market with
respect to costs and sales .
5. In this diagram, provided by Machine Design, the enterprise
"360 degree" PLM system is depicted as a central data
repository, tying together departments in an enterprise to
drive product development and allowing for collaboration
over the network.
6. Reduced time to market.
Improved product quality.
Ability to quickly identify potential sales
opportunities and revenue contributions.
A framework for product optimization.
Reduced waste.
Ability to provide contract
manufacturers with access to a
centralized product record.
7. Product lifecycle management is one of the four
cornerstones of a corporation's information
technology structure.
All companies need to manage communications
and information with their customers (CRM-
customer relationship management, their
suppliers (SCM-supply chain management), their
resources within the enterprise (ERP-enterprise
resource planning) and their planning (SDLC-
systems development life cycle).

phases of a product's life span (concept,
development, production, support, end-of-life)
11. NX
NX improves productivity throughout product
development, delivering faster, more flexible
part and assembly modeling, improved multi-
CAD capability, streamlined digital simulation
and more efficient manufacturing.
Teamcenter
Teamcenter comprehensive portfolio of end-to-
end PLM solutions connects people throughout
the lifecycle with a single source of product and
process knowledge.
12. Tecnomatix
Tecnomatix is a comprehensive portfolio of
digital manufacturing solutions that deliver
innovation by linking all manufacturing
disciplines together with product engineering
– from process layout and design, process
simulation and validation, to manufacturing
execution.
13. PLM software centralize and control the
"who, what, when, why, how, at what cost"
history of product data.
PLM ensures that only the correct parts are
ordered, produced and assembled according
to valid & approved documentation.
