2. What is representation?
Representation is the description or portrayal of someone or something in a particular
way. This means that something is shown in a way that would be accurate to how they
actually are.
These could be based on stereotypes and some may even begin to create people’s
prejudices. Representing the audience correctly would mean that there would be less
harmfull stereotypes and people would get a better idea of what the social group is like.
3. My magazine
My magazine has a young person on the front cover, and
this could be breaking stereotypes because many rock
magazines tend to have people that are classic or people
that their audience would know because this would attract
them more, however, some magazines can have younger
people who are just becoming well-known or have just
gained attention.
4. What my image represents
The model isn’t labelled in any way in the photos, as the images don’t tend to show him in
any ways that would give someone labels. He isn’t standing in a threatening or heroic way.
However, I added that they were voted as best newcomers of 2015 which may influence
people to want to read the article if they had taken part in a vote but it doesn’t try and
represent the artists or musicians in any way. It could show that the magazine is better for
an older audience because there is nothing labelling people for them and that would have
to read the article and make up their own mind about the person themselves instead of
using introductory language which would give people assumptions, which could be
breaking conventions.
