Unit 2 Project Surface
Area and Volume
Container Project Design

By Shivank 8B Algeo Lemos
Steps 1 : Adressing the problem
The purpose of this project is to build an efficient container
for the hot wheels model car below. To do so I will build the
container and calculate the volume to surface area ratio to
see if it is efficient. and calculate the volume of the
container.
Step 2: Build the container for the
object.
Step 3: Take measurement of the net in order to
estimate the volume and surface area of object
Step 4: Calculate the volume and
surface area of the container

The volume of an object is the amount of space
inside the object measured in cm3.
Volume= Height x width x length.
 Volume = 5 x 15.8 x 8 = 632cm3
Finding surface area!

The surface area of an object in the amount of
space of the outside surface areas.
side A = length x width
side B = length x width
top       = length x width
bottom = length x width
end A     = length x width
end B     = length x width
15.8 x 8 x 2 + 5 x 8 x 2 + 15.8 x 5x 2= 490.8
cm2
Step 5: Calculate the surface area to
volume ratio

The efficiency of my container is based on the
surface area to volume ratio. The lower the
ratio the more efficient my container is. If I
compare my container to the blue cubic
decimeter that had a ration of .06 cm2/cm2, it is
not quite as efficient. I did not use up as much
space inside the container as I should have. I
could have made it a bit smaller and would
have been more efficient. My container=
Surface area/ Volume ratio= 490.8
cm2/623cm3=0.79
Analyzing my container!

My container is enviromentally useful because
as you know it can be kept in a shelf. The
structure of my container is a rectangular prism
therefore it doesn't waste space for an item to
fit in. I think if a company would examine my
container they would want build the same ways
as I did.
Thank you!
