Urine analysis Fresh random or early morning urine, 5 – 10 cc in sterile

1. Patient shall observe the following in collection
of the specimen:
First urine in the morning or at random
Midstream of the urine shall be collected
Freshly collected urine shall be
immediately submitted. Daily After 1 hour
2. Prior to collection, patient must thoroughly clean
genitalia with soap and water.
3. If the specimen collected outside the hospital,
the urine specimen shall be submitted to the
Laboratory within 1 hour.
4. Sample must not be contaminated with water,
chemical, disinfectants, soap or other
contaminants.
Urine analysis for RBC morphology - First morning or randomly collected urine
sample in sterile bottle ( 10 – 30 mL) Daily After 1 hour
- Should be submitted within 1 hour.
Micral Test / Microalbumin - Patient is instructed to collect first urine in
the morning at random or in 24 hours as per
doctor’s request. Daily After 1 hour

Avoid taking the following drugs:
1. Aspirin, non steroidal, anti-inflammatory
drugs and iron supplements for 7 days prior to
and during the test.
2. Vitamin C supplements for 2 days prior to and
during the test.
3. Other medications which may cause
gastrointestinal bleeding.
Avoid eating the following food for 72 hours prior to
the test:
1. Rare of light cooked meat, blood and internal
organs.
2. Fruits or vegetables with high peroxidase
activity such as cucumber, broccoli,
cauliflower, turnip, cantaloupe, red radish,
beans sprout and mushroom.
Avoid contaminating the specimen with toilet bowl
cleaners and other toilet disinfectants or detergents
