Service Computing
0 Services computing is a computer
discipline which bridges the traditional
information technology (IT) systems
and business services.
0 Provides businesses with custom
solutions to complex business needs,
such as web services, Service Oriented
Architecture, mash-ups, Software as a
Service, and Cloud Computing.
0 The primary goal of service computing
is to ensure that a business's needs are
met in a timely and efficient fashion

Sales of SaaS packages ($billion)
Global Impact
0 Service computing has broken the geographical limits
imposed on traditional businesses
0 Audiences and user bases are global, allowing access
to previously untapped niche markets
0 Competition is also global, requiring the businesses
learn to adapt to trends both locally and globally to
remain relevant
0 Hardware may be located anywhere in the
globe, providing convenience, lowering costs and
allowing businesses to utilise different laws
advantageously.
Local Impact
0 Increased access to data allows businesses to observe
trends on a local level and respond accordingly
0 Local governments providing service computing
solutions to community-specific needs, such as in
public transport or health
0 Connecting with members of a community may be
facilitated with service computing, for both
professional and private means
Personal Impact
0 End users may customise their software usage according to their
needs, vis-à-vis feature sets and pay-as-you-go software models
0 Strongly tied to the introduction of smart devices – users are nearly as
powerful while mobile as when at a desk
0 Empowers users by allowing instantaneous access to any form of media or
service
Google Maps
• The Leading navigation service for availability and usage.
• Is already used by location based software for Android
and Apple devices.
• Can be used for both tracking a GPS enabled Device
headed to the users location and Navigating to a location
using GPS to pinpoint the users location and give
directions.
• Available worldwide for free.
• API (application programming interface) available for
maximum compatibility.
• Has Traffic density, weather, terrain, and pictures that
people have Geotagged.
Facebook
• The world largest social media outlet and the medium of over 1 Billion profiles
worldwide
• Less than ten years in and worth over $1billion
• Over 500TB of data per day uploaded in over 300 million photos and 2.7 billion
likes
• Succeeded MySpace and has successfully fended off Google+ to remain the
centre of all social media
• Used to check-in with location based software and is used to share information
about people places and events in users’ everyday lives
• Android- and Apple-compatible with increased functionality and accessibility
than on a PC at times, due to integration.
Twitter
• Twitter is the most successful microblogging site in the world
• Limiting users to 140 characters per tweet for direct and to the point messages
• Great for sharing important information as well as what you are doing at all times of the day
• Major App integration has allowed a major market to open up for this service and has been a
success since 2006
• 554, 750, 000 users posting over 58 million tweets a day and advertising revenue last year of
259, 000, 000 US dollars
• This system encouraging sharing experiences and with the inclusion of the location in which
you sent it others will be able to experience the same wondrous moments as you have
YouTube
• More than footage uploaded every minute than
could be watched in three days
• Over a trillion views in total, and total market
dominance
• Less than ten years old and was sold to Google the
Tech Giant for $1.65 Billion eight years ago
• With integration into Android and Apple products
and being part of the Google empire integration
with location would be a snap.
• This service allows users to have a laugh, learn
something they struggle with from a peer in
another country, or even procrastinate
indefinitely.
Business Process Model
0 Creates an new immersive environment, underlined by
successful and major Social Media Services.
0 All forms of correlated data is heavily social media based.
0 Correlated data is sourced form the sites itself, which is
based on the REST architectural Style
Business Process Model
The Problem
0 With the advent of the internet, location became
irrelevant – users can connect to any user
globally, shop from any location
0 The popularity of GPS-compatible smart devices has
increased the relevancy of location-based data, but
this has yet to be fully exploited
0 So much media is created every moment that it is
nigh-impossible to discern what one user will find
relevant, useful or entertaining
0 People may walk through a city, looking only at a
screen in their hand. There needs to be an
application that combines the digital realm with the
physical in an intimate setting.
The Solution- Drops
0Simplistic
0Integrated
0Mashup
0Public
0Lockable
0Entertaining
The Solution
0 Drops adds relevance to both your location and your digital
content, intertwining them in an unprecedented way
0 Allows you to discover facets of the city you live in that you
may never have experienced before
0 Brings checking in to a whole new level with being able view
the past in the place it happened with augmented reality
through a phone screen or Google Glass device
How?
0 This integrates the best of Social Media into one Global online
you, allowing you to share inspirational stories when and where
they happened and people can view them in your place
0 This is done by recording a video/ take a picture, and then using
the app, Geotag your location and Drop it and anyone you link can
come to that location and pick it up and hold their device out in
front of them completing the view with your video/picture to
truly recreate the moment
0 Not only that but you can leave behind status updates or tweets to
tell people about events or even review a restaurant.
Why?
0 Unique in usage and scope
0 Provides amalgamated services that its
constituents do not
0 Adds value to content, extending beyond the
physical realm
0 It will be revolutionary in the world of social
media being able to leave notes for people in
the virtual world in the form of
tweets, YouTube clips, status updates and more
with future applications in mind for
development at a later date.
User Interactions
0 Designed to seamlessly integrate with users'
lives, adding value and convenience in both
accessing and producing content
0 Utilising intuitive design to reduce many
interfaces (YouTube, Facebook, etc) to one.
0 Technical interactions as hidden from the user
as possible - emphasis on content.
0 Design affordances utilise existing interfaces to
provide context - clickable buttons are
obviously clickable, etc.
HTML Demo
HTML mock-up to be presented here.
Demonstrated features:
Location-based results
Accessing text-data (Tweets)
Accessing rich content (video)
Adjustable settings (filters)
Potential features:
Password protected drops
Reviews of locations
Public information (posts by local government, etc)
Tours of a location
(Note: Unable to attach the mock-up to presentation.)
Conclusion
0 Service computing is an increasingly important facet
of the information technology field
0 A service's technical specifications need to be
robust, dynamic and matched with equally effective
user interactions.
0 Drops takes existing data and interlaces various
media together, adding more value to the user than
the sum of their parts
0 Drops does the work for the user, allowing them to
dynamically interact with their surroundings in an
unprecedented way.
