1. BYOD Planning
Slideshare: Building an effective BYOD Technology Plan- Sam Gliksman
During this presentation we will cover ‘what’ is BYOD’ and ‘how’ we will go about
implementing it into our school, however to start it is important that we spend some
time unpacking the ‘why’. Why it is an important step to take on our learning
journey at Ladbrooks school?
We live in a time of exponential change especially in terms of education . What is
changing? The most important change is the way we learn and aquire new
knowledge and understandings. The way children learn is very different from when
we were at school.
What has changed / What is different?
- Students now live in a Multimedia world. They use many digital tools to
learn
- Their media is al colour
- They prioritize visual learning (Learning by seeing)
- They learn best through trial and error
- They constantly connect and collaborate
- They access information that is live and linked
- Students have different styles of learning (Digital camera) – What would
you do when you open this box? What would your children most likely
do?. They learn through experience (trial and error)
Students are now encouraged to connect and collaborate with the outside world in
order to develop new understanding. Knowledge is no longer confined to reading
information in books.
Allowing our students to use technology to develop new knowledge and
understandings is vital for them to learn and work in the 21st
C. The use of
technology in our live is advancing at amazing rate. There are areas in wheich this
can be measured
- Computing Power Today’s washing machine has more computing power than all of
NASA’s computing resources when it first landed on the moon.
- Ubiquity (Technology is everywhere) Out of the worlds population of 7 billion 5
billion of us are cell phone subscribers
- Connectivity (Social Networking) Facebook didn’t exist prior to 2004. Today 1 out
of 8 people on the planet has a facebook page.
If context is important … Children starting school today will complete their
secondary schooling in 2026. What will the world look like it 2026? How will we
educate and prepare children for a world we don’t know anything about?
2. 1. 21st
Century Learning in New Zealand Schools – What are the characteristics
of a 21st
c Learning environment?
2. Our current strategic/educational goals? These goals are set to meet the
ongoing need of our students as 21st
C learners.
Why do we need these goals: To prepare life for outside of school!
It’s not about the Technology – It’s about the learning
Learning has changed so much since we were at school. Students now learn
differently compared to when we were at school
