Marketing, PR and Event Planning Intern

ACCION San Diego is a non-profit organization that creates economic opportunity for start-
up and existing entrepreneurs who lack access to traditional credit. The organization’s
mission is to increase income and job stability for low-to-moderate income self-employed
men and women in San Diego County by providing business support and loans ranging from

“Marketing” Intern:
Responsibilities: Contribute to internal/external marketing efforts mainly including
social media marketing, writing thought-provoking articles, blog posts, press releases,
creating flyers and newsletters in publisher, and interviewing/taping clients and small
business owners for promotional footage. Aid with event planning will be required
including logistical planning and promotional efforts. Understanding of email marketing
and ability to learn promotional systems quickly is a plus. Occasional assistance in
coordination and communication with active clients and volunteers may arise. If you
would like quality experience in all aspects of marketing, then this internship is
for you.
Time commitment: 10-15 hours/week
Start-date: ~ Beginning of June
Duration: Summer/Fall 2011, 6 months
Location: Most activities will require presence at ACCION’s office, some will require local
travel, and certain tasks could be performed remotely
Compensation: This is an unpaid internship
Desired Qualifications:
• Under graduate (junior/senior) or graduate student
• Availability for: 6-month summer/fall internship (Mid June - December) during
regular business hours
• Understanding of microfinance and demonstrated interest & passion in the field
• Must have excellent writing skills and strong verbal communication abilities
• Proven knowledge in marketing strategy, branding and PR
• Must have ability to take on projects independently and be pro-active in creative
thinking
• Must be computer savvy. This includes excel, word, and other social media sites
(Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Blog sites, etc)
• Must have superb attention to detail in writing, instructions and executing tasks
