2. Admitted to the Missouri Bar in 2006, Scott
Eckersley currently serves as of counsel to Silver
Ridge Financial, LLC, a Salt Lake City-based
financial firm. Formerly, he acted as a policy
advisor and deputy general counsel to the
governor of Missouri. Throughout his career, Mr.
Eckersley has displayed a strong belief in the
importance of transparency in government and
the Freedom of Information Act.
3. The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA; “the
Sunshine Law”) is a law in the United States that
allows citizens access to previously classified
information and documents controlled by
executive agencies of the federal government.
Enacted in 1967 and augmented and modified
since then, the FOIA allows nine exemptions for
full disclosure of information based on such
issues as national security and personal rights.
Each of the 50 states may also have freedom of
information laws, which may be more or less
rigorous than the current federal FOIA provisions.
