16. #PencilChat
The kids know how to use a
[pencil] better than I do. I don’t
want to look dumb in front of
the students.
17. #PencilChat
What if the [pencil] breaks in
the middle of my class? What
will I do then? I don’t know
how to fix a [pencil].
18. #PencilChat
Seriously though... I'm really
sick of hearing about shiny new
[pencils] at conferences. It's not
the [pencil], it's the pedagogy.
19. Barriers to Engaging Classrooms
• Accountability Fears
• Embracing innovation vs. Fear of
innovation
• Add more, but take away nothing
–INCLUDING Technology
• Gadget/product engaged
• Time
38. The defining difference between
TECHNOLOGY and
EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY is
that EDUCATIONAL
TECHNOLOGY is all about what
YOU can DO with the
TECHNOLOGY NOT what the
TECHNOLOGY will do FOR you.
66. “When the rate of change
outside an organization is
greater than the rate of
change inside, the
continuing existence of
that organization is
threatened.”
~Phil Schlechty
67. Adults readily admit they are bad
at math, but get upset when you
don’t teach math the same way
they were taught. They may not
understand flipped classroom,
newer technologies, Web 2.0.
Digital Divide is usually defined at the gap between individuals and communities that have access to information technologies and those that don’t.
Moore’s law. The observation made in 1965 by Gordon Moore, co-founder of Intel, that the number of transistors per square inch on integrated circuits had doubled every year since the integrated circuit was invented. So as Moore’s law continues to happen we see a drop in prices of devices.
Digital Divide between those who know how to use technology to reimagine learning and those who use technology to digitize traditional learning practices.
Take traditional teaching and digitize it
Take traditional books and digitize it.
Take traditional lectures, record them and post them online to bore students for homework instead of during class.
With Technology Integration we are really talking about student engagement.
In the popular Halo series, gamers have to make decisions in half to 1 second.

Labels are scary! They can be uncomfortable and they can make us squirm.
When you start throwing out labels, it can get a little uncomfortable. But it will be ok in the end.
Levels of Technology Integration into the Curriculum
SMART has their version of the matrix that we have seen in past SLI.
Entry – The teacher uses technology to deliver curriculum content to student. Presentation lecture. Video from YouTube

Adoption – The teacher directs students in the conventional use of tool-based software.Use Word or PPT to complete assignment
Adoption video - http://fcit.usf.edu/matrix/lessons/authentic_adoption_science.php
Adaptation – Teacher encourages adaptation of tool-based software by allowing students to select a tool and modify its use to accomplish the task at hand.
Infusion – the teacher consistently provides for the infusion of technology tools with understanding, applying, analyzing, and evaluating learning tasks.

Transformation – The teacher cultivates a rich learning environment, where blending choice of technology tools with student initiated investigations, discussion, compositions, or projects across any content area is promoted.QUAD D.
