Welcome to Part Three which introduces Degree Guide’s review of your major requirements.
In this short presentation, we will first discuss how to find the prerequisites to your major, then show you how to find your core major requirements, and lastly I will discuss the additional program coursework on your degree guide. Let’s begin.
Hopefully by now you have glanced at your own degree guide. If you scroll down the degree guide right past the general education requirements, ^you will see the next main heading highlighted with a solid blue line and the title of your major (abbreviated). ^The first section here is a list of the Pre-Requisites to your major program. ^All prerequisites must be met with a grade of C- or higher and also completed prior to taking courses within your major. If you have transferred in the equivalent or are currently taking pre-requisite courses you will see the information on degree guide. For example, this Political Science student’s status of their prerequisites indicates that they ^have transferred in ENG113 with an English Composition class, ^ are in progress of completing ENG123 Intermediate Composition, ^ and still need to take POL213 American Government.
Moving on . . . beneath the Pre-reqs to the program, you will find the Core Major Requirements which are typically divided into lower division requirements and upper division requirements. All courses listed are necessary to complete your major. In some circumstances, a student may have a choice, as in this example. ^ For example, this student may take POL484 or POL485, but does not need to take both. Please remember, all major classes require a C- or better to meet the requirement within your major.
Every OPS major requires ^additional program courses which include 2 Christian Studies courses. The first course is CST100, Overview of the Bible, which is a 4.0 unit course required for all OPS students. Additionally, each OPS student is required to complete one upper division Christian Studies course (CST3** or CST4**), with the exception of Business Administration students. These students have a required major course which also meets the upper division CST requirement. For all other OPS major, the recommended course to complete this requirement is CST301 The Christian Life.^ By the way, when you review your General Education Core Curriculum, you will notice a category for both Christian Studies and CST upper division. By completing these additional program requirements in your major that we just discussed, you will also be completing the correlated G.E. core curriculum categories as well.
Let me reiterate the importance of following the rotation of classes prepared for your major when you register for classes. These rotations are posted on InsideCBU and will be explained in more detail in the “Registering for Classes” presentation.
