History
The Aztec’s were a Group of people who came into the
Valley of Mexico during the 12th and 13th century A.D.
They rose to be the greatest and most powerful in the
Americas till the time the Spaniards arrived. Little is
known of the Aztecs, because they did not keep a
written record. Their History was past on by story. The
Aztec’s first town/capital city was The city they built was
called Tenochtitlán, it was in the city of Tenoch. THe
growing of the the city started fast soon they had a
strong army and all the intelligence they needed.

The Aztec’s were fierce warriors but were also
skilled in writing , arts, and crafts. They used
drawings to tell their History and religion. All
Aztec craft workers made unbelievable jewelry
and pottery. They crafted an Aztec calendar
with the Aztec sun and the Aztec god in the
middle and signs of the days and weeks around
                       the god and the sun.

Food
The Aztec’s loved food. Their favorite food is
sweet corn. they also made round flat cakes
called Tortillas for scooping up meat or spices.
The Aztec’s especially liked spicy foods topped
hot chili peppers. They’re favorite drink was Hot
chocolate. They made it with boiled and crushed
coca beans then Flavored them with vanilla or
honey. The rich drank in a marble cup with a
                          golden straw.

Clothing
The Aztecs could tell how wealthy someone was
by looking at their clothes. Most people wore
clothes made out of cactus fibers while the rich
people wore long robes made with cotton and
sandals. Women wore shawls and brightly
colored head dresses and men wore plain old
tunics. Warriors wore Special clothing for
bravery. The best were eagles or jaguars. Only
the King was allowed to wear feathers or jewelry.

Living
Family was the most important thing to the
Aztec’s. The father was the head of the family
taking all the responsibilities. He had to look
after the family. His wife looked after the house.
Aztec Children were carefully brought up.They
always had to obey their parents. Why? Because
then the children would get CRUELLY punished.
From the age of 7 many Aztec boys went to
school. They studied History, religion and how to
use weapons. The girls mothers taught them how
                              to do housework

Sports and Games
The Aztecs liked many games. One of the their most
famous games was Tlachtli. It was a ball game that was
played between teams using rubber balls. The court was
shaped like a capital I. One person on each team would
have to shoot the ball into a hoop high over their heads
using their knees without using their hands. The hoop
was placed on opposite walls at the center of the court.
In a way this game is combined soccer and basketball.
The team that made the first basket won the game.

Trade
Aztec merchants were called pochtecas, and they were
the ones that brought in so many Fabulous things to the
Tlatelolco Market. Some common items being shiny
golden jewelry, Fluffy feathered caps, tortoise shell
cups, spices, and cocoa beans. Merchant life was hard
and very dangerous Because they had to travel long
distances and visiting foreign places. They lived in a
separate part of the city, had their own laws, and own
temples to worship their own gods, there most woshiped
god was one of these gods being Yacatecuhtli, or 'Lord
Nose which was the god of merchants.

Religion
The Aztec’s worshiped many god and goddesses. The 4
main gods were Centeol the god of corn, Tlaloc the god
of rain, Hitzilopochtli the god of war, and Tonatiuh the
god of the sun. The Aztec’s held ceremonies for the gods
they had these to please them. They believed the gods
would bring bad things to happen to them. The biggest
buildings in an Aztec city were the temples built to the
gods. Sacred places stood at the top of pyramids. Every
day people went to the temple of Tenochtitlan to be
sacrificed to the god of the sun. They thought that it was
an honor to be sacrificed in this way

Currency
Do you know what the Aztec currency was? It was
chocolate!!! Yes the rich creamy stuff you eat almost
every week. Why was chocolate the Aztec’s currency?
Chocolate was their currency because it was had This
currency was most often used in local markets, at which
one could buy tools, clothes, and for a good price.
They were also crazy for gold. They used gold for
trading and buy thing just like they would use
                       chocolate.

Education
Children of rich Families attended a calmecac, a school for
children that was attached to the temples god and
goddesses. Both Girls and boys went to separate calmecac
schools. The children learned to live, to govern, and to
understand the history and ways of their kind, under strict
guidance. At fifteen (15), boys attended either a calmecac
or a cuicacalli. The calmecac was commanded by priests who
taught religious subjects. Calmecac pupils also had very
religious duties, as well as history, astronomy, poetry, and
writing classes. The cuicacalli was a military school. All boys
were trained in war and there was great fights-between the
                       schools.

The End of the Aztec’s
This was followed by the event of The Night of Sorrows.
Fearing for his safety, Cortes tried to flee to Tlatcala
but was stopped by Aztec guards who fought and killed
about 150 Spanish soldiers and almost 2,000 natives
with Cortes barely escaping. It was said the Spanish
carried so much gold stolen from the siege so they
drowned in the many canals around the main city. The
Spanish revenged with their siege on Tenochtitlan which
ended on the had its end on the 13th of August 1521.
That was the end of the Aztec’s.
