Taiwan has made progress on open data initiatives in recent years. Several key developments include:
1) The enactment of an open government data law in 2005, although there is no freedom of information act.
2) Active open data community events since 2008 that have engaged diverse stakeholders and transparency groups.
3) A draft "Open Data Regulation" under cabinet-level support for public consultation in 2013.
4) Support from all five major cities for open data programs.
