Benefits of redesigning the home lighting
- 1. Benefits of Redesigning the Home Lighting
With all the technological advances our society has made in home lighting within the past few
years, many people are deciding to update their house lighting. It’s a great way to save money
on your energy bill, while at the same time update your lighting to better satisfy your needs.
Here are a number of ideas that might be of some help.
Kitchen
Most new led lights for homes are designed with kitchens that open up into well-used living
areas, which increases kitchen use. This makes good kitchen lighting a lot more significant than
ever.
Kitchens need suitable general lighting throughout. If you only have one overhead light as your
chief source of light, it will cast shadows. Multiple overhead recessed lights work nicely in a
kitchen, because they can be spread throughout the ceiling, above the open spaces of the
room.
Recessed lighting blends in well with modern decor, but it can feel out of place in a more
classical kitchen, so substituting multiple compact fluorescent tubes with frosted bulbs is a
good alternative. A light-coloured ceiling also helps spread light across the kitchen.
You’ll also need good task lighting for places like the stove, counters and sink. Fluorescent lights
furnish effective, diffuse task lighting, and the new led gu10 are even better. Task lights need to
be placed above, behind or beside the area to be lit; don’t put them in front of you, or they'll
shine in your eyes.
Items like cooker hoods often come with built-in lights. You can install built-in lights in
cupboards that automatically light when the doors are opened.
Living room
Because living rooms are generally used for so many varied activities, like watching television,
entertaining, video games and reading, the living room needs many kinds of lights.
To start with, you’ll need good ambient lighting, and that can be produced in several ways.
Using outside natural light to enhance your living room is not just the most cost-effective choice

- 2. for lighting; it's also the healthiest one, because our eyes favor sunlight to that of any artificial
source.
Overhead fluorescent or recessed lights are more efficient general lights than torchiere lamps.
Having a lot of soft lights set throughout the room can create a wonderfully enticing ambient
light. Wall sconces in association with big, soft overhead fixtures can be an awesome
combination.
You will also need to have accent lighting for your living room. Accent lighting is designed to put
the spotlight on your favourite living room elements, which in turn can draw awareness away
from unattractive features. Wall sconces are excellent for this.
You will also need mood lighting; floor lamps with three-way switches or dimmers are fabulous
for this.
Desk lamps and pole lamps are splendid for task lighting.
Bathroom
Your bathroom needs to have flexible lighting. You need to be able to see well enough to shave
or apply make-up, yet not be blinded while you’re taking a relaxing bath. One or more overhead
lights supplied with dimmer switches are great for this.
A string of lights around your mirror, such as you see in dressing rooms, gives you a nice, even
light from multiple angles. You can also replace existing intense lights with frosted bulbs or
fluorescent fixtures.
