2. Film Trailers
Trailers, which are like adverts for a film, are an important part of a
film’s marketing campaign. They inform potential audiences about a
film and are designed to raise audience awareness and interest in a
film in advance of, and during, its cinema release encouraging people
to see the film at the cinema. Trailers are generally aimed at the same
audience as the films they publicise. Trailers show how a new film is
different to others in the same genre: this is known as the USP (Unique
Selling Point) of the film which could be because of the innovative use
of special effects, an unusual mix of genres or a popular star. Trailers
are shown at the cinema, on TV and online and are usually
accompanied by poster campaigns and radio campaigns to give wide
coverage for new film releases. Most trailers are produced at the same
time as the film is being edited so it is shown far enough in advance to
generate excitement about the film’s release, but not so early that
people forget about the film before it even comes out.

film. These posters all link together by the iron
style silver font used on the film title and the
dark and blue colours used.
6. Battleship Game
The film Battleship was inspired by the game
Battleship by Hasbro. Hasbro has now released a
new film addition of the game which advertises
the film for people purchasing the game. The
Battleship film trailer is also displayed on the
Hasbro website.
7. Facebook
The Battleship film is also advertised through
Facebook as it has it’s own Facebook ‘like’ page
where fans can ‘like’ the page which will then
appear on their page for their Facebook friends
and the page will then get spread around and
advertised. The page is currently liked by
212,419 people.
8. USP
Battleship is a mainstream film as it is produced
using a high budget by Universal as a big scale
Hollywood film with the use of big explosions,
effects and large ships. Famous singer, now also
actress, Rihanna is featured in the film which
makes the film unique and will encourage fans
of Rihanna to see the film.
9. Conclusion
It is clear from the marketing campaign that the
film is of an action/sci-fi genre by the use of
images of explosions and the use of the iron
style font of the film title. It is clear from the
marketing campaign, mainly from the trailers,
that the plot of the film is to do with a group of
ships battling with other iron vehicles.
