PEDAGOGY

The course will be taught using lecture / IT enabled Power point presentation method.
    1. Understanding of the concepts, which make students familiar with different types of
Materials, its properties & Heat Treatment purposes, their mechanism & usefulness.
     2. This will provide an introduction to the important concepts and methodology involved
in studying various manufacturing/machining processes under the head workshop
          Technology,
     3. The concepts will be adequately illustrated with examples to make applications of
Theoretical concepts clear and to proceed for Practical methodology I in the laboratory
and also to know, how a Creative Idea ends with a Successful Product in
         Engineering Field.
     4. Students will be required to make presentations when required and solve numerical
          problems

EVALUATION & GRADING

Students will be evaluated based on the following three components.
   • Internal assessment
   • Mid term examination
   • End term examination

Internal assessment: weightage 30%
Internal assessment shall be done based on the following:
    • Quizzes/Tests –Two quizzes/Tests to be held during the semester. The schedule for
quizzes is given in the detailed session plan. Students who miss out on a quiz/Test will
        lose the marks.
• Presentations- Presentations shall be held any time convenient during the semester.
Students shall study one or more aspects of the required process and analyze it critically.
Presentations will be group assignments. Each member of the group shall be awarded the
grade. Announcements of groups shall be made by the faculty. Presentations shall be of
10 minutes length which will be followed by a question and answer session by students
as well as faculty. Each member of the group is supposed to present. Presentations shall
be assessed on contented, presentation style and ability to answer queries related to the
       subject.

   • Assignment(s)- Assignment(s) could be numerical problems or case studies or both.
Students are supposed to submit assignments on a particular date. Those who do not
submit the assignment by the due date shall be penalized through deduction of marks.
This deduction shall be at the discretion of the faculty.

Mid term examination: weigtage 20%
Mid term examination shall be of two hours duration and shall be a combination of short theory
questions and numerical problems.

End term examination: weightage 50%
End term examination shall be of three hours duration. The examination shall have short theory
questions and/ or objective type questions, short numerical problems.

Grading
The overall marks obtained at the end of the semester comprising all the three components
mentioned above shall be converted to a grade by the faculty.

The grades awarded by the faculty shall be finalized by an examination
committee.

Attendance
Students are required to have a minimum attendance of 75% in each subject consistently on
every month basis. Students with less than the stipulated percentage shall not be allowed to
appear in the end semester examination.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

Since the curriculum of the course requires analytical and strategic decision making process so
the students have to go through the mix of class presentation, role play, quizzes etc.

We would be using numerical illustrations and questions, so as to apply the methods and
techniques in business problems.
Needless, to mention that student’s classroom participation will add value to their overall
evaluation.

  • 2. COURSE PLAN LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Prerequisite OBJECTIVES: - The objectives of this course are: a) To provide thorough knowledge on various Metals, its properties, Heat Treatment & Manufacturing processes, etc. b) To provide basic knowledge on various Machines/Tools used for different Manufacturing processes and Machining from raw material to end Product. c) To provide basic knowledge on how a Creative Idea ends with a Successful Product in Engineering Field. THE SYLLABUS: (Describe all the units) The syllabus consists of the following major sections Unit No. Topic Sub-topics Unit 1: Engineering Fundamental learning about Metals/Non Metals, Ferrous Materials, its and Non Ferrous, properties and Heat Treatment classification. Unit 2 Hot and Cold Introduction of Various Forging Operations; Drawing, working: Upsetting, Bending, Fullering, Swaging and Flattening Forging Shop Unit 3 Foundry Shop Introduction to Simple Pattern, Molding- Materials, Types, procedure of Mould preparation, use of Cores, Melting Furnaces, Tools and Equipment used in Foundry. NDT of castings. Unit 4 Welding Shop Introduction to Different Welding Methods, Welding Equipment, Electrodes, Welding Joints, Awareness of Welding Defects. Gas/Electric Arc/Resistance & Special Types of wildings, Soldering and Brazing. Unit 5 Fitting Shop, Description of Fitting Tools and their uses, i.e. Hammers, Chisels, Files, Vices, Drills, Taps, Dies &Drilling machines. Unit 6 Sheet metal Knowledge of Tools and Equipment used in making of Shop. Sheet Metal Components and parts. Different joining Techniques. Unit 7 Carpentry Introduction to various types of timber, Ply-wood and Shop Particle Boards, Defects in Timber, Seasoning of wood.
  • 3. Description and use of Carpenter’s Tools, Unit 8 Machine shop Introduction to various parts of Lathe, Lathe Tools and Lathe Operations. Demonstration of Thread Cutting, Drilling, Boring, Taper Turning and Knurling on the Lathe. PEDAGOGY The course will be taught using lecture / IT enabled Power point presentation method. 1. Understanding of the concepts, which make students familiar with different types of Materials, its properties & Heat Treatment purposes, their mechanism & usefulness. 2. This will provide an introduction to the important concepts and methodology involved in studying various manufacturing/machining processes under the head workshop Technology, 3. The concepts will be adequately illustrated with examples to make applications of Theoretical concepts clear and to proceed for Practical methodology I in the laboratory and also to know, how a Creative Idea ends with a Successful Product in Engineering Field. 4. Students will be required to make presentations when required and solve numerical problems EVALUATION & GRADING Students will be evaluated based on the following three components. • Internal assessment • Mid term examination • End term examination Internal assessment: weightage 30% Internal assessment shall be done based on the following: • Quizzes/Tests –Two quizzes/Tests to be held during the semester. The schedule for quizzes is given in the detailed session plan. Students who miss out on a quiz/Test will lose the marks.
  • 4. Presentations- Presentations shall be held any time convenient during the semester. Students shall study one or more aspects of the required process and analyze it critically. Presentations will be group assignments. Each member of the group shall be awarded the grade. Announcements of groups shall be made by the faculty. Presentations shall be of 10 minutes length which will be followed by a question and answer session by students as well as faculty. Each member of the group is supposed to present. Presentations shall be assessed on contented, presentation style and ability to answer queries related to the subject. • Assignment(s)- Assignment(s) could be numerical problems or case studies or both. Students are supposed to submit assignments on a particular date. Those who do not submit the assignment by the due date shall be penalized through deduction of marks. This deduction shall be at the discretion of the faculty. Mid term examination: weigtage 20% Mid term examination shall be of two hours duration and shall be a combination of short theory questions and numerical problems. End term examination: weightage 50% End term examination shall be of three hours duration. The examination shall have short theory questions and/ or objective type questions, short numerical problems. Grading The overall marks obtained at the end of the semester comprising all the three components mentioned above shall be converted to a grade by the faculty. The grades awarded by the faculty shall be finalized by an examination committee. Attendance Students are required to have a minimum attendance of 75% in each subject consistently on every month basis. Students with less than the stipulated percentage shall not be allowed to appear in the end semester examination. COURSE REQUIREMENTS: Since the curriculum of the course requires analytical and strategic decision making process so the students have to go through the mix of class presentation, role play, quizzes etc. We would be using numerical illustrations and questions, so as to apply the methods and techniques in business problems. Needless, to mention that student’s classroom participation will add value to their overall evaluation.
