Bob is starting his first day as a shoe salesman under Mr. Clark. Their first customer, a difficult woman, spends a long time trying on various shoes without deciding to purchase anything. Mr. Clark grows increasingly frustrated with the woman and angry with Bob for not being more attentive. It is only at the end that Bob reveals he recognized the woman as someone who never buys from stores and was just waiting for the rain to stop. Mr. Clark realizes Bob had useful information that could have saved them time and trouble.
