2. Yeast Infection is what we usually call an infection or more accurately, proliferation of the common yeast organism (or fungus). This fungus, technical name - Candida albicans is very common in the environment; hence yeast infection is also known as Candidiasis.
3. Actually, fungi are normally present in the body and that is a good thing, but these bacteria keep it from invading the body. In pursuing a cure of yeast infection, you must always bear this in mind. Under certain conditions, however this fungus multiplies and cause disease.
4. These conditions occur during a weakened immune system, the use of antibiotics, exposure to cancer drugs and chemotherapy or corticosteroids, also in diabetics. Fungi love sugar and sugary foods. That's why in diabetics with increased levels of sugar in urine and other body fluids, the risk of Candida infection increases. It also becomes difficult to attain or achieve a permanent cure of yeast infection.
10. In/around the Vagina (vaginitis), it is characterised by vaginal itching, pain and burning in vagina and around the vulva, pain during sexual intercourse; all this is usually accompanied by vaginal discharge - a cottage cheese like or watery discharge from the vagina.
11. On the Skin, this can occur on any skin surface but usually moist, dark and airless areas such as body creases under breasts, belly, groin, arm pits etc. It manifests as small-to-large patches of red, moist, raw skin which may itch or be painful. Tiny pustules also tend to appear around or near the edges of the red areas.
12. Your preferred method to the cure of yeast infection must therefore take into consideration the site and location of the proliferation.
13. Finally , most yeast infections are preventable by keeping skin and body-fold areas clean and dry; Diabetics must remember to keep their blood sugar levels under tight control; lose any excess weight if you are overweight.
14. Candida yeast infection is not a sexually transmitted disease. The woman's partner will not normally need treatment; however both should avoid sexual intercourse until the yeast infection heals.
15. Remember and be aware that vaginitis can also be caused by something other than yeast infection; and that you might have been exposed to a sexually transmitted disease if you are sexually active.
