[Robert Butler, Global CIO Hay Group] âWhere we previously needed 80 cables, we now only need eight: a reduction by the factor of ten. This not only cuts down the investment required, it also simplifies scalability. Installation and maintenance work are also substantially reduced.â 80% average reduction in cabling with an average cost savings of 75% based on 16 & 5 customer case studies respectively. This is truly a self-funding IT Initiativeâ âThe Cisco UCS deployment and ârip and replacementâ of our entire data center system represents the single most significant upgrade in the history of HCAA. It is also the smoothest and easiest transition we have ever made.â These savings include capital costs, operating expense, power consumption, higher application availability, and productivity improvements in three critical workflows. ConnectEDU has seen dramatic cost and time savings since moving its data center to Cisco UCS and the cloud. âFirst, we save money by eliminating the capital costs required in a physical rollout,â says Blaisdell [Rick, Chief Technology Officer]. âWe further reduce costs, because weâre only paying for utilization. As a result, we have reduced our monthly data center costs by 35 percent.â SERVERS PROVISIONING REAL WORLD TCO EXAMPLES INFRASTRUCTURE & CABLING POWER & COOLING ONGOING ADMINISTRATION SYSTEM MANAGEMENT

The room was hot, and we were running out of power,â says Bienapfl. With UCS, heâs been able to optimize computing resources and achieve a 10-to-1 compaction ratio. âWeâll soon be running our entire operations on just five racks,â he says. âWeâre already starting to turn off cooling units and downsize UPS systems.â Lowered power usage by 66% 50% compared to traditional blade server environments Reduced power consumption by 94% SERVERS PROVISIONING REAL WORLD TCO EXAMPLES INFRASTRUCTURE & CABLING POWER & COOLING ONGOING ADMINISTRATION SYSTEM MANAGEMENT

Now we can do that in 60 minutes.â âNow that we can provision our environment on demand, weâre able to summon enormous computing power in almost no time at all. We donât need to reserve capacity that weâll never use. In short, we can drastically minimize wasted time and resources while responding much more quickly to customersâ needs.â Gopi Balasingam, Vice President of Operations âWith the number of systems we support, weâve got development and test environments coming and going all of the time,â Cavell says. âBefore UCS, even if we had the gear, we were lucky to spin up a few servers in three to five business days. Now, when requests come in, itâs a matter of 20 to 30 minutes, and theyâre up and running.â The crucial feature of Cisco UCSM is its use of service profiles to provision server resources, enabling infrastructure to be provisioned in minutes instead of days. âWhat Cisco has done with server profiles is brilliant,â says MĂ„nsby. âYou canât have a server online without storage and network, so it makes perfect sense to package all three administrative functions into a single interface. Itâs all about resource efficiency: if server, storage, and network are three different phases, then you spend three times as long on a deployment or change as you would using Cisco UCS. And time is money.â Stefan MĂ„nsby, Chief Business Development Officer We used to spend 1.5 days provisioning a new server. Now its 60 minutes. Second, the single point of management that is inherent in UCS provides the ability to view server, network, and storage health and performance from one pane of glass.â âWith Cisco UCS Manager service profiles, we can very quickly reconfigure any server blade so that itâs ready for production in 15-20 minutes.â â⊠an administrator can change an operating system configuration and then apply it to multiple server blades at the same time, saving time and reducing configuration errors.â âFirmware upgrades are easier as well, because the IT team simply attaches the upgrade to the template, and then Cisco UCS Manager automatically updates all server blades associated with that template. Cisco UCS Manager templates enable the IT team to update all servers in just 30 minutes, compared to 20 hours with the previous computing platform.â Support time was also cut dramatically. Thomas and the rest of the team have been freed to work on new projects in what he estimates is a twentyfold increase in productivity. Time saved is now being directed toward expanding the internal teamâs expertise and experience with other technologies and applications, as well as launching new initiatives.
