Summary:
An
investigation
has
been
made
on
a
sample
of
276
persons
regarding
their
participation
on
business
networks
XING
and
LinkedIn.
The
sample
of
276
persons
consisted
of
three
different
profile
types.
The
target
of
the
investigation
was
to
find
out
what
role
these
two
business
networks
could
play
as
communication
channels
and
web
based
interaction
platform
with
known
business
contacts.
Results
for
LinkedIn
Only
14,1
%
of
the
investigated
sample
of
276
persons
could
be
found
on
Linkedin.
In
no
profile
groups
the
penetration
was
over
20%
.
Results
for
XING
Only
15.2%
of
the
investigated
sample
of
276
persons
could
be
found
on
XING.
In
one
profile
groups
the
penetration
was
over
30%.
These
were
Internet
savy
mid-‐level
technical
managers.
Summary:
The
normal
manager
on
1st
and
2nd
level
of
companies
can
no
suffciently
reached
through
XING
and/or
Linkedin.
Around
70
%
oft
hem
is
just
not
present
there.
For
those
managers
E-‐Mail
remains
the
only
chanel
to
ensure
communciation.
Only
the
group
of
persons
known
through
Webinar
participation
could
be
reached
sufficiently
through
comminication
via
Xing
and
LinkedIn.
The
rate
was
at
70%.
The
problem
of
this
group
ist
hat
20%
of
them
is
present
on
both
networks.
