I log on to Facebook and like every other person would do, going through the events
of the day.
I came across Darren Rowse Facebook page where he did ask his audience this
terrible question, “What have been your biggest obstacles as a blogger?”. Time?
Fear? Skills? Know how? Something Else?
I couldn’t imagine the overwhelm responses that followed. It was like, oh bloggers
are really facing great obstacles to realize their dream.
I thought it would help if I could share some of my personal ones and what I learned
on Darren’s page through his audience with you. But please, after reading through
this post, feel free to share your experiences with us through the comment box
below.
What you’re facing now that is holding you down to become that blogger of your
dream. I would do my best to see how I can be of help. Is a win-win situation, there
are good people out there willing to help, don’t die in silent.
Bloggers Biggest Obstacles
#1. Traffic.

2. This is obvious going to be and will always be on bloggers list of biggest obstacles.
In fact, traffic is one of the major reason most bloggers quit blogging.
Is a very terrible obstacle to cross, especially if we’re talking of targeted traffic, but,
is it unbeatable? yes of course, be patient with your blog, create quality content and
promote heavily. But, don’t spend more than you can easily afford.
Take advantage of free marketing platforms, such as social media sites, re-tweet
sites, forums, online communities and so on.
Share your contents freely there and with time people will notice you and if they like
what you do, they’ll visit your blog. There are more advance ways of driving targeted
traffic to your blog, but as a starter stay with the above mentioned tactics.
Familiarize yourself with the industry norms first, then, you can move on to more
advance way of getting traffic.
#2. Not knowing how to set up a blog.
Well, for an obvious reason, no one was born or with a gift of blogging knowledge,
we all learn it.
When I first heard about blogging, my fear was how I will design my blog. I have no
single idea on how to start, what blogging platform is, whatever.
Out of curiosity I met a friend who agrees to teach me for a small fee of 10,000
Naira, about $70. That’s how I got started with blogging. And from there I learned
along as I continue practicing every day.
You get better at what you do always.
The best way to scale through this is to made up your mind once and find someone
who either agree to teach you for free how to create a Word Press self-hosted blog
from scratch or both of you agree on a fee.

#3. Fear of technicalities in blogging.
After knowing how to set up a blog, the next challenge I face was how to manage or
run the blog. It was a very difficult task. One that has to do with lots of blogging
technicalities.
You know, plugins, submitting to directories, dealing with codes, widgets, search
engine optimization stuffs, managing themes, oh! They’re just too much.
There is no absolute one answer to this, the older you’re in the industry; the more

3. you understand all these blogging jargons.
Pay attention to details, follow instructions and soon you will become a “savvy”.
#4. Fear of Acceptance.
After designing a blog the first time, I was afraid of telling families and friends what I
have just done. I visited some online community and asked the member to help look
and give their honest review at least I feel more comfortable with that.
The result help gives me some fresh ideas to try and some other useful resources.
I could remember a guy whom I asked to help check on my content, his reply got me
sad with myself for couple of days. I was seriously writing badly then, at first, I
wanted to stop writing.
But I thought to myself, if I stop, how will I get better? Don’t stop doing something
because you think you’re not just doing it right; instead finds how to get it rightly
done.
#5. Consistency.
I think this as do with the progress of your blog, or sometimes, other life
responsibilities that demand our attention.
If you really want to see your blog been called a profitable blog, then consistency is
not something you bargain with. Consistency is the key to a profitable blog.
#6. Time Management.
Unfortunately there is no proper remedy to solving this. We’re all blessed with equal
hours a day. How you spend yours depend on you.
With the present overwhelm task in professional blogging; writing content, social
media marketing, blog promotions, blog commenting, forum posting, engaging with
your audience etc. is obvious there will never be enough time to spend a day.
And we are human with families, social engagements and lots of responsibilities.
We just have to find how to balance things in order of importance.
