Management consultants help organizations solve issues, maximize growth, and improve performance. There are three models of consultant roles: 1) the purchase expertise model where consultants bring independent perspectives without extensive interaction; 2) the doctor-patient model where consultants carefully analyze problems and recommend solutions; and 3) the process consultant model where consultants facilitate problem definition and solutions but clients ultimately decide actions. Consultants are hired for their specialized competence, varied experience, ability to study problems professionally and independently, and help create actions.
