Our goal is to show you how Day One of Greater Altoona can help you overcome
obstacles in YOUR life, be an extension of YOUR church,
and be a valuable resource to YOUR organization or place of business.
Spring forward, this means one hour less of sleep every spring for most of us, it
also describes the new attitude of Day One. This new attitude will be showcased
with a new look and feel at our annual Spring Banquet Thursday, May 7th at the
Casino in Lakemont from 6:30-8:30pm. This spring gala has been a staple event for
decades, but has never quite looked like this before. We have a packed schedule
with live music, dramatic performances, great food and much more. This event is
not just to celebrate and raise support for Day One. It’s our vision that Day One
would be an extension of what God is already doing in Altoona and beyond. This is
why the annual Spring Banquet will display some of the gifts and talents of
partnering churches, ministries and individuals from the local area.
OK, no more teasers, check out just some of what you can expect to see.

would a blue marlin? No Way! Why then do so many well intentioned Christians feel it
necessary to give the identical gospel presentation to a depressed middle-aged
housewife as you would to a teenage drug addict? Then we wonder why neither one
received any comfort or hope. The Gospel message itself is timeless and unchanging.
Not every person though is going to relate to the gospel message the same way. How
do you know when to come on strong with an oversized lure, or subtly with a small fly
or jig? Listen to them, care about them as a person, get to know them. As you
genuinely love them God will guide you on how to show them Jesus.

Matthew 4:19
"Come, follow me," Jesus
said, "and I will make
you fishers of men."
A Saturday in mid April comes around every year which, for many Pennsylvania residents, rivals even Christmas. This
blessed day is the first day of state wide trout fishing. Streams and lakes all across the state are stocked full of rainbows,
brown trout, brookies, and the occasional fluorescent yellow palomino. These local streams will also soon be packed
shoulder to shoulder with eager fisherman both young and old alike. Tips and tricks for using the right lures, bait, rods and
reels, hot spots, and even the type of waders you’ll want to trust to catch the, “big one” are as numerous as their are
fisherman.
In Matthew 4:19 Jesus, walking along the shores of the sea of Galilee, calls two fishermen, Peter and his brother
Andrew, to follow him as his disciples, and he will make them, “fishers of men.” As I sat and reflected on this well known
story, with the first day of trout season almost here, a light bulb came on in my head. Jesus, three years later, would tell
these same disciples to go into all the world, spread the gospel, and make disciples. I thought to myself, “Who better to be
in charge of spreading the gospel and making disciples than fishermen?”
What do I mean? Well let me ask you a question. Would you use the same bait, the same lure to catch a trout as you
