Live Office Connection For Xcelsius 2008 12 10 2009
1. Live Office Connection for Xcelsius 2008
Prerequisites:
- Xcelsius 2008 SP1 with latest fix packs
- Live Office XIR2 SP2 or up (LO version needs to match with your BOE system)
The screenshots in this document is taken with Live Office XI 3.1 and Xcelsius 2008 SP1 FP1.
Workflow:
A: Prepare Live Office data connection in MS Excel
1) Insert Live Office data connection with MS Excel
If you use CR data, we recommend inserting data fields instead of report parts to avoid
redundant format information.
2. 2) Check Live Office Object Properties
Make sure the Refresh Option is set to get data from latest instance or database as you
expected. Note that the report has to have existing instances to use “Refresh from latest
instance” option.
3. 3) Refresh LO data
LO design workflow inserts saved data when available, so you should call LO Refresh within
Excel to make sure refreshing (i.e. runtime) works as expected.
4) Set Database Logon info for CR report
Some CR reports require DB Logon when refreshing data for the report. LO connector for XC
doesn’t handle CR DB logon prompt currently. To workaround, you can specify the DB logon
credential for the report in CMC so that all refresh process for the report will be using the
stored user Id and password to connect to DB. I.e. On CMC, select the CR report and go for
“Database Configuration”:
4. 5) Bind parameters/prompts to Excel range
If the LO data from Crystal Reports, Web Intelligence report or Universe query requires
parameter/prompt values to be filled at runtime, use LO parameter binding to bind the
parameters to Excel range.
7. Make sure refresh Live Office objects work as expected, and then saved the .xls and exit
from MS Excel.
B: Enable “Live Office Compatibility” for Xcelsius 2008
8. You may need to restart Xcelsius 2008 for setting to take effect.
C: Design visualization with your xls
You may start with the xls with LO data, or import the xls into Xcelsius:
9. After importing the xls, you will be able to add existing LO connection to Data Manager.
10. Please make sure to change the WS URL to connect to your Web Services of BOE system.
For those runtime LO parameters/prompts which binding to cells/ranges, you may use
visualization components to link to the binding ranges, e.g. use a slider so that user can
change parameter/prompt values at runtime.
11. Try out the visualization in Preview, you will see BOE logon dialog when refreshing LO data:
