Roy Fielding, Chief Scientist at Day Software and co-founder of the Apache Software Foundation, gave a talk at ApacheCon about the history and future of the Apache HTTP Server project. He discussed how the project has evolved over 20 years from its start as an open source alternative to commercial web servers, to becoming the most popular web server software in use today. Fielding argued that for Apache to remain relevant and leading in the next decade, it needs to embrace newer technologies, development practices, and community processes or risk decline like older once-dominant software projects.
