Raster Graphics
• Give a definition of Raster Graphics
Raster Graphics, also known as Bitmaps, are
graphics made up of millions of tiny pixels
grouped together to create an image. Each
pixel records the colour information of that
particular section it is covering.
Vector Graphics
• Give a definition of Vector Graphics
Vectors, also known as Paths or Strokes, are
defined graphics that are defined by a start
and end point using curves, points, edges and
angles in between. Vectors have no definition
whatsoever so can be however large or small
as you would like, excellent for company
logos.
JPEG
Stands For Joint photographic experts group
Used For It is commonly used method method of
lossy compression for digital photography.
(wikipedia.org)
Advantage Can be shared with anyone on any
computer/mobile phone, as it is universal.
It is compatible with every printer,
allowing users to print the image directly
without formatting.
Disadvantage Loses quality every time you open and
close the file. If you chose to compress the
image, it begins to have a block effect on
the image.
It doesn’t support animation types.
TIFF
Stands For Tagged image file format
Used For TIFF is used for desktop publishing. Usually
used by graphic designers.
Advantage Doesn’t lose quality because of its Lossless
compression.
You can save multiple files as one.
It is a flexible format that can represent
every things including fax photos.
(wikianswers.com)
Disadvantage The files are too big and take up a lot of
space.
You cannot use TIFF on the internet or on
mobile phones.
PSD
Stands For Photoshop document
Used For PSD is used for front covers of magazines.
It is also used to manipulate the image.
Advantage It supports transparency.
The format can save layers and swatches
etc.
Disadvantage The files are too big which makes it only
accessible on Photoshop.
AI
Stands For Adobe illustrator art
Used For Logo creation
Advantage Can be saved big/small images without the
specific image becoming blurry and pix-
elated.
Disadvantage It has limited software
3DS
Stands For 3D stands for 3D Studio
Used For It is used for 3D modelling and animation
of various sorts such as creating characters
and environment.
Advantage The files format is standard.
The software is powerful.
Disadvantage The files are too large to view on mobile
phones.
You need skills and experience of which
takes years to master.
The software for the format is very
expensive.

Shape Task
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
The shapes were simple, for example I used shapes like circles and ovals to create my Panda.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I would be more detailed with the face of my Panda. I would take more time and put more effort into my
Panda.
Rotoscope
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I liked how my picture of Nicki Minaj is detailed, especially her eyelashes and her hair. The eyelashes are my
favourite part of the rotoscope are I think although they look realistic, they are quite cartoony aswell.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I noticed that there is several black patches on the picture where I haven’t joined up the sections correctly. If I
had to do it again, I would make sure the sections over lap so there wouldn’t be any awkward patches.
Text Based
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I like the font I used, I think it fits in well with the actual quote as its quite edgy.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I would change my quote.
Logo Creation
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
It was simple but effective. I didn’t take me long but I think it is perfect for the PBM course logo.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I would make it more detailed.
T-Shirt Designs
iPhone Cases
T-shirts
StickersI like this image as its rather comical, the
phrases for example “can u not” are said
quite often so technically, its in fashion
meaning it’ll sell well.

Peer Evaluation
What are the strengths of the final image?
• The final image is a top quality photo, I like the way you have gone over
them and put them together (two images into one) it doesn’t matter what
top you buy either because it goes with them all apart from black.
What could be developed if the image was
repeated?
• In the photo, sulley looks a lot bigger than he should, the price could
be lowered as well. The (our friendship is everything) should of being
put underneath and then mike and sulley moved further up. There
could of also being a bit of colour behind them as when its on the t-
shirt it looks a bit plain. Overall the image is top quality and you
should sell a lot to monsters inc fans.
Peer Evaluation
What are the strengths of the final image?
• I like Sully on this image, he looks lot like the real thing and there is good
detail
• I like the quote at the top on the shirt. Something that fans would be able
to relate to
• I like the face that Mike is young and Sully is old, showing that it is from
the second film, and their outfits also showing this, with the MU on Mikes
hat
• Its good how the design can look effective on a variety of colours
What could be developed if the image was repeated?
I think the detail of Mike could be improved a bit, just so he matches up to
the real thing a bit more
I think the quote should maybe be put on in a more interesting way and the
font could relate more to the movie.
The black colour of the font would also not show up on a black or darker
shirt, so maybe an outline of a lighter colour could be put around the text
Peer Evaluation
What are the strengths of the final image?
• The character Sully was reproduced very well & it looks like him. I also like
the attention to detail of a shadow on the left side of him.
• The colours used are vibrant which & contrast against the quote/text also
on the final image.
What could be developed if the image was
repeated?
• Mike, compared to Sully, does not look as effective. His reproduction, if the
image was developed & repeated, would have to have more time spent on to
get it up to the same standard as Sully.
•The font used, if developed, could have been the Disney font or the font the
Monsters Inc. movies use. This would link with the characters more, giving
the design a more professional & polished feel.
T-Shirt Evaluation
Does your final product reflect your
original intentions?
My final product is only very slightly different to the way I planned to do it. My
original plan was to include two black and white pictures of Mike and Sully, one
from Monsters Inc. and one from Monsters University but sadly, I didn’t have
enough time to do as I originally wanted to but overall, I am happy with my
design. My original intention was to also create a iPhone/iPad case along with
my shirt but again, my time on this project was limited so unfortunately, I couldn’t
make that.
As you can see below, these are my planned and actual design. The one on the left
was my plan and the right, my actual design. My planed design includes two
pictures of the pair, with faded out edges on both pictures whereas my actual
design features two single pictures, both rotoscoped, of Sulley and Mike.
Is your product suitable for your
audience?
My product is suitable for my audience as my audience was young children/teens and fans
of Monsters Inc. My shirt features two characters from M.I obviously to reflect the
purpose of my design. Originally, I thought the design would be to childish but I think
the way I did made it more mature so that not only children and/or young people could
wear it, but any fan of any ages.
What do you like/dislike about the
techniques you have used?
One thing I liked about one of the techniques I used was the rotoscoping. At first, I thought
rotoscoping would be a bad choice of tools since my original picture was actually already a
cartoon but I think in the end it looked remotely good.
Another technique I used to create the extreme detailing in Sulleys’ paw/hand was the brush tool
along with the colour replacement tool. This tool proved very helpful for my products’
detailing.
For the characters to stand out more, I used a technique which provided a shadow around both
Mike and Sulley, this added definition, also creating the effect that Mike is in the foreground
and Sulley is in the background.
What do you like/dislike about how
your final product looks?
One thing I disliked about my final product is that it looked different from my original plan. This
was down to limited time but I wish I’d of had longer to add in the particular things that I
couldn’t.
I like that my product is not only unisex but also for all ages.
Another thing I liked about it is the colours and the way it stands out, it looks as if Sulley is stood
way behind Mike. I like this as it gives it definition by adding a thicker, defined line. It also
gives the effect of a shadow.
One thing I dislike is the font I used for the quote. The font was nice but it didn’t really have any
relevance to the actual theme. After reading my peers reviews on my product, I realise I
could of used the actual font style from the Monsters Inc. films.
Why did you include the content you
used?
I used the images of the characters because I planned my shirt to be a quote and the specific
quote fitted perfectly as it is about friendship and throughout everything, your friends will be
there and as that is a direct quote from Mike Wazowski to James Sullivan from Monsters Inc. I
thought it would be highly relevant to include their pictures.
I used to font as I thought it would be a relevant font to the quote as the quote is quite cute, as is
the font. It was between two fonts and I eventually chose to go with the font, ‘Always In My
Heart’.
I chose the specific colours as the quote is quite a bright, bubbly quote and it wouldn’t really
work if I used plain, dark, lower toned colours.
Bright colors. For
example, green and
blue.
What style have you employed in your
products?
Further in the slideshow, I presented my favourite shirts I’d seen on Red Bubble that I used
for inspiration. These existing shirts, such as 1, helped me decide what I wanted to
produce as it was a comical yet powerful quote. The way this helped me decide was that
I wanted to put one of my favourite quotes on a t-shirt.
The Monsters Inc. films are both films about friendship, trust and how important friendship
actually is, this is one of the reasons I wanted to incorporate it onto my t-shirt.
Although, the colours of the t-shirt are actually quite plain, both characters are rather bright
colours (blue and green) which is one of the reasons I only left the writing on the design
black as I didn’t want to over do it on the bright colours. I think it works well.
The reason I chose to rotoscope my picture rather than use shape manipulation was as
personally, I find it looks better and leaves a more polished, finished look.
1
What were the strengths and weaknesses
of the pre-production and planning
The research helped me decide what kind of design I wanted, whether I wanted to do a
band shirt, a patterned one or one from a well known book or film. With deciding that I
wanted to design my shirt based on a film, I researched other shirts and merchandise
based on the specific film I wanted to do. For example, I liked the way shirt one looked,
which is when I made my decision that I wanted to base the design around Mike and
Sulley.
Creating a proposal helped me keep track of time, making it a lot easier to meet deadline
dates, for example keeping up with my schedule gave me time slots for specific parts of
the project.
This Monsters Inc. shirt influenced
me to create my shirt the way I did by
the colours used.
Analyse each of your final print products commenting
on the strengths, weaknesses and aspects you would
do differently if you were to repeat the project
I would go back to my original
plan, using two black and
white photos.
I would change my font to
a more relevant font, for
example the official font of
Monsters Inc.
I would make my font have a
white outline as if the
consumer chose to have a
black or dark shirt the writing
would not be visible.I would change the style of
the shirt to make it more
appealing to women.
I would change the
positioning of the
characters as part of them
have been cut of.
Peer Feedback
One thing I disagree with is on one of the feedback forms is that Mike could have been more
detailed. I disagree with this as Mike is a very simple character and there is very little detailing
I could of added to her, apart from the shading, which I did.
Another thing I don’t agree with is the comment on the colour of the background of the shirt, I
think that any other colour rather than white would not look as effective. As although the shirt
is simple, that is what makes it look better.
Something I agree with is the comment on the colours, the colours are vibrant and contrast
with each other aswell as go very well with the quote.
Another thing I agree with is that I should of made the shirt design more flexible with the
colouring, for example the quote would not show up on a black shirt design.

  • 12. Evaluation What did you like about your image? The shapes were simple, for example I used shapes like circles and ovals to create my Panda. What would you improve if you did it again? I would be more detailed with the face of my Panda. I would take more time and put more effort into my Panda.
  • 14. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I liked how my picture of Nicki Minaj is detailed, especially her eyelashes and her hair. The eyelashes are my favourite part of the rotoscope are I think although they look realistic, they are quite cartoony aswell. What would you improve if you did it again? I noticed that there is several black patches on the picture where I haven’t joined up the sections correctly. If I had to do it again, I would make sure the sections over lap so there wouldn’t be any awkward patches.
  • 16. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I like the font I used, I think it fits in well with the actual quote as its quite edgy. What would you improve if you did it again? I would change my quote.
  • 18. Evaluation What did you like about your image? It was simple but effective. I didn’t take me long but I think it is perfect for the PBM course logo. What would you improve if you did it again? I would make it more detailed.
  • 22. StickersI like this image as its rather comical, the phrases for example “can u not” are said quite often so technically, its in fashion meaning it’ll sell well.
  • 25. Proposal Dimensions 2400 x 3200 Content My t-shirt will be a neutral colour like white or grey with two black and white pictures merged into one of Sulley and Mike with the quote; “Our friendship is everything” over the top of it. Export Format PNG Advantages; Works with Redbubble, also allows transparency and lowered opacity. Disadvantages; Larger than a standard file.
  • 26. Proposal Deadline 1st October Tuesday First lesson I will pick my main picture and the quote I will use along with the font. Schedule Audience My audience will be children/teenagers or anyone who is a fan of Monsters Inc/Monsters University.
  • 28. Peer Evaluation What are the strengths of the final image? • The final image is a top quality photo, I like the way you have gone over them and put them together (two images into one) it doesn’t matter what top you buy either because it goes with them all apart from black. What could be developed if the image was repeated? • In the photo, sulley looks a lot bigger than he should, the price could be lowered as well. The (our friendship is everything) should of being put underneath and then mike and sulley moved further up. There could of also being a bit of colour behind them as when its on the t- shirt it looks a bit plain. Overall the image is top quality and you should sell a lot to monsters inc fans.
  • 29. Peer Evaluation What are the strengths of the final image? • I like Sully on this image, he looks lot like the real thing and there is good detail • I like the quote at the top on the shirt. Something that fans would be able to relate to • I like the face that Mike is young and Sully is old, showing that it is from the second film, and their outfits also showing this, with the MU on Mikes hat • Its good how the design can look effective on a variety of colours What could be developed if the image was repeated? I think the detail of Mike could be improved a bit, just so he matches up to the real thing a bit more I think the quote should maybe be put on in a more interesting way and the font could relate more to the movie. The black colour of the font would also not show up on a black or darker shirt, so maybe an outline of a lighter colour could be put around the text
  • 30. Peer Evaluation What are the strengths of the final image? • The character Sully was reproduced very well & it looks like him. I also like the attention to detail of a shadow on the left side of him. • The colours used are vibrant which & contrast against the quote/text also on the final image. What could be developed if the image was repeated? • Mike, compared to Sully, does not look as effective. His reproduction, if the image was developed & repeated, would have to have more time spent on to get it up to the same standard as Sully. •The font used, if developed, could have been the Disney font or the font the Monsters Inc. movies use. This would link with the characters more, giving the design a more professional & polished feel.
  • 32. Does your final product reflect your original intentions? My final product is only very slightly different to the way I planned to do it. My original plan was to include two black and white pictures of Mike and Sully, one from Monsters Inc. and one from Monsters University but sadly, I didn’t have enough time to do as I originally wanted to but overall, I am happy with my design. My original intention was to also create a iPhone/iPad case along with my shirt but again, my time on this project was limited so unfortunately, I couldn’t make that. As you can see below, these are my planned and actual design. The one on the left was my plan and the right, my actual design. My planed design includes two pictures of the pair, with faded out edges on both pictures whereas my actual design features two single pictures, both rotoscoped, of Sulley and Mike.
  • 33. Is your product suitable for your audience? My product is suitable for my audience as my audience was young children/teens and fans of Monsters Inc. My shirt features two characters from M.I obviously to reflect the purpose of my design. Originally, I thought the design would be to childish but I think the way I did made it more mature so that not only children and/or young people could wear it, but any fan of any ages.
  • 34. What do you like/dislike about the techniques you have used? One thing I liked about one of the techniques I used was the rotoscoping. At first, I thought rotoscoping would be a bad choice of tools since my original picture was actually already a cartoon but I think in the end it looked remotely good. Another technique I used to create the extreme detailing in Sulleys’ paw/hand was the brush tool along with the colour replacement tool. This tool proved very helpful for my products’ detailing. For the characters to stand out more, I used a technique which provided a shadow around both Mike and Sulley, this added definition, also creating the effect that Mike is in the foreground and Sulley is in the background.
  • 35. What do you like/dislike about how your final product looks? One thing I disliked about my final product is that it looked different from my original plan. This was down to limited time but I wish I’d of had longer to add in the particular things that I couldn’t. I like that my product is not only unisex but also for all ages. Another thing I liked about it is the colours and the way it stands out, it looks as if Sulley is stood way behind Mike. I like this as it gives it definition by adding a thicker, defined line. It also gives the effect of a shadow. One thing I dislike is the font I used for the quote. The font was nice but it didn’t really have any relevance to the actual theme. After reading my peers reviews on my product, I realise I could of used the actual font style from the Monsters Inc. films.
  • 36. Why did you include the content you used? I used the images of the characters because I planned my shirt to be a quote and the specific quote fitted perfectly as it is about friendship and throughout everything, your friends will be there and as that is a direct quote from Mike Wazowski to James Sullivan from Monsters Inc. I thought it would be highly relevant to include their pictures. I used to font as I thought it would be a relevant font to the quote as the quote is quite cute, as is the font. It was between two fonts and I eventually chose to go with the font, ‘Always In My Heart’. I chose the specific colours as the quote is quite a bright, bubbly quote and it wouldn’t really work if I used plain, dark, lower toned colours. Bright colors. For example, green and blue.
  • 37. What style have you employed in your products? Further in the slideshow, I presented my favourite shirts I’d seen on Red Bubble that I used for inspiration. These existing shirts, such as 1, helped me decide what I wanted to produce as it was a comical yet powerful quote. The way this helped me decide was that I wanted to put one of my favourite quotes on a t-shirt. The Monsters Inc. films are both films about friendship, trust and how important friendship actually is, this is one of the reasons I wanted to incorporate it onto my t-shirt. Although, the colours of the t-shirt are actually quite plain, both characters are rather bright colours (blue and green) which is one of the reasons I only left the writing on the design black as I didn’t want to over do it on the bright colours. I think it works well. The reason I chose to rotoscope my picture rather than use shape manipulation was as personally, I find it looks better and leaves a more polished, finished look. 1
  • 38. What were the strengths and weaknesses of the pre-production and planning The research helped me decide what kind of design I wanted, whether I wanted to do a band shirt, a patterned one or one from a well known book or film. With deciding that I wanted to design my shirt based on a film, I researched other shirts and merchandise based on the specific film I wanted to do. For example, I liked the way shirt one looked, which is when I made my decision that I wanted to base the design around Mike and Sulley. Creating a proposal helped me keep track of time, making it a lot easier to meet deadline dates, for example keeping up with my schedule gave me time slots for specific parts of the project. This Monsters Inc. shirt influenced me to create my shirt the way I did by the colours used.
  • 39. Analyse each of your final print products commenting on the strengths, weaknesses and aspects you would do differently if you were to repeat the project I would go back to my original plan, using two black and white photos. I would change my font to a more relevant font, for example the official font of Monsters Inc. I would make my font have a white outline as if the consumer chose to have a black or dark shirt the writing would not be visible.I would change the style of the shirt to make it more appealing to women. I would change the positioning of the characters as part of them have been cut of.
  • 40. Peer Feedback One thing I disagree with is on one of the feedback forms is that Mike could have been more detailed. I disagree with this as Mike is a very simple character and there is very little detailing I could of added to her, apart from the shading, which I did. Another thing I don’t agree with is the comment on the colour of the background of the shirt, I think that any other colour rather than white would not look as effective. As although the shirt is simple, that is what makes it look better. Something I agree with is the comment on the colours, the colours are vibrant and contrast with each other aswell as go very well with the quote. Another thing I agree with is that I should of made the shirt design more flexible with the colouring, for example the quote would not show up on a black shirt design.
