- Let me start at the very beginning…Before BIM there was the 2D world where the main advantage in the solutions was coming from the flexibility. Each user when in a team could work at the same time continuously on separate files. Coordination was minimal by xrefs compared manually.Then came the first BIM solutions where coordination of the different drawings derived from the model is done by the software itself. This has the advantage of fewer errors in the documentation phase but the model itself has to be updated continuously. This means that every time a change is effectuated the whole file is updated. The team members have to wait until the changes are sent and then received by all of the team members. This makes the first generation beam collaboration rather inflexible. So let’s leave the question open what will be the big next step next?
