This work is important because it provides an in-depth analysis of the increasingly visual social problem of Sexual Assault (SA) within the intertwined social networks that college students study, work, and live. I was on a team comprised of University of Missouri females who observed victimization and political barriers for student survivors directly—both in our student social circles, and in the intimate partner violence prevention work we practiced on and off campus. We wanted to examine and report our understandings as female student researchers, using the social work framework for assessment at the level of institution and community. In the years surrounding this presentation, the enforcement of Title IX continues to be increasingly mandated alongside national media coverage of high profile cases of sexual assault in the world of professional and college sports. Our own athletic department at MU has since developed a student-athlete character development program as a component of prevention.

Very few of us know that 73% of the rape victims know the rapists. Moreover, 40% of rapes happen at victim’s home and 20% occur in the homes of familiar people. It turned out that most of us have no idea about the effective precautions needed to protect ourselves from the traumatic experience, because we expect danger from a wrong source. A widespread belief is that one should expect a rapist to sit in the bushes in the park late at night, while the reality is different. My colleague Paulina Grzelak and I were astonished while exploring this topic, as we were quite oblivious to the real situation as well. Therefore, we decided to make a small questionnaire and ask people what they think about rape. This presentation begins with the analysis of what makes a person become a rapist, which is followed by the comparison of the results of the questionnaire with real data. I would be grateful if you shared this presentation as many people need this knowledge. I also want to add that most figures we present come from the States where definition of rape and social situation may differ from ours. Hence, comparing data from the U.S. with opinions from Poland and Ukraine may seem improper. For instance, being forced into sexual contact by husband may not even be recognized as rape in Ukraine, “because it’s his natural right”. And even if a wife admits this fact, social welfare system (which does not exist here, let’s face it) leaves her no option apart from remaining silent, while in the U.S. rape victims are less dependent on family members. Therefore, one has to approach the statistics carefully. Still, we believe that using American data can be justified by the fact that they explore the subject more than any other country.

ABSTRACT: Sexual harassment is a corrupt practice that exists in society. It involves undue pressure on a specific gender in order to exploit sexual interest by an opposite sex. It becomes necessary to ascertain if male lecturers in tertiary institution are sexually harassed by female students in their bid to take advantage of sexual exploits on their victims. This study investigates the veracity of claims that female students are not the only victims of sexual harassment in tertiary institutions, in spite of public information suggesting such an experience. Students resident in Awka town were used in the study. The attribution theory was considered apt in the investigation since it bothers on attitudes and behaviour related to processed information. The survey research method was also considered apt since it is the view of persons, particularly students, who experience the phenomenon in their respective institutions that is required as basis for the assessment. Results from the study are expected to show if public information exerts any influence in curbing sexual harassment of males, assuming it exits

Although most Allegheny County residents say that they feel safe in their neighborhoods, Pittsburgh's homicide rate is higher than the average of U.S. cities of similar size. The majority of these homicides are the result of street violence. There are strategies that have been shown to reduce this street violence, but, to be effective, they must focus on those at highest risk and be implemented in a collaborative way that involves community members as well as agencies in the criminal justice and human service systems. This report is the result of interviews with more than 50 practitioners; reviews of local, state and national programs; research on the roots of violence and evidence-based practices that have been effective in combatting street violence; and discussions with noted experts in the field of criminal and juvenile justice. It presents recommendations of specific, proven strategies that can reduce street violence in Allegheny County within one to five years.

Presentation given at 2015 AABP conference in New Orleans Relationship between longevity and health or reproductive performance at the cow level is well demonstrated in the dairy literature but this association might not hold true at the herd level. Many herd-, farm-, and cow-level components are part of the culling decision. The objectives of this study were to: 1) quantify culling rates of Québec dairy herds; and 2) investigate if Québec dairy farms could be differentiated based on herd-level factors such as management, reproduction, production and health indices, and explore their relationship with herd culling rate. A retrospective study was conducted on data from dairy herds in Québec, Canada, by extracting their health and production data. Data were extracted for all lactations taking place between 2001 and 2011. A total of 432,733 lactations records (from 156,409 cows; 763 herds) were analyzed. Thirty herd-level variables were aggregated for each herd/year of follow-up and their relationship investigated by Multiple Factor Analysis (MFA). The overall culling rate was 31.6% with a 95% confidence interval of [31.2, 32.1]. The explained variance for each axis from the MFA was very low (first and second axis: 13.7 and 12.6%, respectively) suggesting that there was no relationship among the groups of variables. Associations were found between culling rates and herd-level variables such as seasonality, proportion of primiparous cows, calving intervals, 21-day pregnancy rates, days to first service, and average age at first calving. Being pregnant is a known cow-level protective factor against culling and we determined that herd reproductive performances as measured by calving intervals and 21-day pregnancy rates were associated with culling rates. However, these were the only herd-level factors associated with culling while there are many cow-level risk factors. No association was found between culling rates and herd production performances (peak production, 305d milk, fat and protein productions). The presence (and absence) of relations observed in this study stresses the significance of the peripartum period for the herd, and the prime importance of acknowledging the discrepancy between herd- and cow-level associations. Inferences at the group level should not be based on individual-level data.

The YJC’s goal is to dismantle policies and institutions that has ensured the massive lock-up of people of color, widespread police violence and corruption, consistent violation of youth and communities’ Constitutional and human rights, the construction of a vicious school-to-jail track, and the build-up of the world's largest network of jails and prisons. We use direct action organizing, advocacy, political education and activist arts to agitate, expose, and pressure the people in charge in order to upset power and bring about change.
