First Columbus event September 15, 2012 Economic Community Development Institute (ECDI) “We are so excited that RecycleForce Columbus is working in Franklin County to provide opportunities for re-entry workers to get valuable on-the-job experience after returning to our community from their incarceration”, said Franklin County Commissioner Marilyn Brown. “We encourage you to support this organization by dropping off your end-of-life electronics, anything with a cord attached!”

- 4. We are Miners ► There is as much gold in a ton of electronic waste as in 55 tons of ore. ► Copper, aluminum, plastic and steel. ► Our material will be recycled and reused in industry. The steel we recycle will supports Ohio jobs.
- 5. Social Enterprise 501(c)3 Non-Profit dedicated to leading, developing and implementing effective strategy to reduce recidivism; improving local and state economies and communities and the lives of hundreds of formerly incarcerated men and women and their families.

Indianapolis Economic Impact Between January 1, 2006 – December 31, 2011 Recycle Force Employees: ► Earned Nearly $3 million in Wages ► Paid More than $400,000 in Child Support ► Paid more than $650,000 in Re-Entry User Fees to Marion County Agencies ► Paid $625,000 in Federal, State and Those Who Earntaxes $5,000 in the first six months Local at Least after release have significantly lower recidivism rates.
- 8. U.S. Department of Labor ► RFI Indy awarded $5M grant November 2011 for study of 1,000 newly released felons over 2 years ► 500 to participate in 4 month Employment and Training program with RecycleForce ► 500 in Control Group will receive “supports as usual”
- 9. RecycleForce Columbus Sub-recipient of funds awarded RecycleForce Indy to help launch RecycleForce Columbus and create a minimum of 6 positions by fall 2015

Successful re-entry through Entrepreneurship ► For some ex-offenders, entrepreneurship offers new opportunities for successful reentry ► Reducing recidivism and empowering ex-offenders to start their own businesses to create their own jobs is a great strategy that is being well received across the US. 11

- 24. Success Stories Darnell Kirkwood – Darnell came to CleanTurn in June 2012 as an Alvis House referral and has made a great impact on the people he works with. Darnell has spearheaded multiple demolition and deconstruction projects. Larry Hadley – Larry came to us through our partners at Serenity Street in February 2012. Larry serves as our Grounds Keeping supervisor and oversees our lawn and snow removal services Joakima Bailey - Joakima was referred to CleanTurn through our partner, the Columbus Urban League in August 2012. Joakima provides superior customer service in our janitorial services division- our customers love her for her attention to detail and “get it done” attitude

Reducing recidivism and empowering ex-offenders to start their own businesses to create their own jobs is a great strategy that is being well received across the US. Discussions and planning are ongoing across the U.S.
- Research has documented entrepreneurship and self-employment as benefits to disadvantaged and hard-to-serve individuals. … As more and more people return from prison, many lacking educational and vocational skills necessary to compete in today’s labor market, entrepreneurship may represent a means of capitalizing on an underutilized pool of human resources.”
