responding to industry needs
“Bridging the Worlds of Education and Industry”
UHI will seek to provide a suite of quality tourism and hospitality
learning opportunities which places, at its heart, the economic
needs of the region, aligned to the achievement of government
and industry ambitions for 2015.
UHI will provide students with a blend of practical experience
in, and critical appreciation of, industry best
practice, operations, management and leadership in the tourism

5. Future Outlook
“Re-Bridging the Worlds of Education and Industry”
“Tourism education, if it is to be responsive to
change, must have an emphasis on
experiential and applied learning – where
there is a direct engagement between all
parties concerned in the educational
process...those responsible for the develop-
ment of tourism education at UHI must be
innovative...and not just follow the strategies
that other[s] employ.”
Budd Report (2007), UHI
6. What next?
“Re-Bridging the Worlds of Education and Industry”
• how better can the university, the
sector and other agencies collaborate?
• what needs are being met and, more
importantly, not being met?
• what should we do better as a
responsive education establishment?
• what commitments can the sector
make?
