2. SHARING ECONOMY AND
COLLABORATIVE CONSUMPTION
Sharing economy or also known as shareconomy, collaborative
consumption or peer economy is a common academic definition of
the term refers to a hybrid market model (in between owning and gift
giving) of peer-to-peer exchange. Such transactions are often
facilitated via community-based online services.
3. Based on the The Sharing Economy: Why People Participate in
Collaborative Consumption journal there are four examples of
different instances of sharing economy. The four examples are open-
source software, online collaboration, file sharing, and peer-to-peer
financing.
I agree with this, since I also see that these four categories of
activities are strolling around on the internet. I see people are more
likely to share every thought and activity on the internet, such as in
Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Nowadays, people can
also do crowdfunding and charity on the internet, such as
crowdfunding to start business or build something, and charity to
help sick people and people in need. There is also transportation
sharing so people can easily rent and use vehicles that they need.

4. WHY PEOPLE PARTICIPATE ON
COLLABORATIVE CONSUMPTION?
In the journal, it is stated that the reasons or factors people want to
collaborate in the sharing economy are 1) enjoyment and 2)
sustainability 3) economic benefits and 4) reputation.
5. ENJOYMENT
In my opinion, enjoyment is true, this factor is the one to lead people
to share their thoughts and feeling on the internet. If people feel
enjoy by sharing, they will collaborate more to the sharing economy
which will make the other people interested too. Without enjoyment,
sharing economy will not be as big as it is right now.
6. SUSTAINABILITY
For sustainability, people are willing to participate in the sharing
economy because they believe that this economy can optimized their
environment, social and economic to fulfill their needs and desires.
So by participating, they hope they can boost the economy so that it
will be sustainable.
7. ECONOMIC BENEFITS
Economic benefits I think is one of the major factor on why people
want to participate on the sharing economy. People are attracted by
the economical sides of collaborative consumption. Because of this
economy exists, when they have assets that they can share for
gaining money, they will participate and go for it.
8. REPUTATION
Last but not least, reputation is also play an important roles on the
factor on why people want to participate. By participating in the
collaborative economy, they can gain reputation in the world they
chose they want to. For example, by reviewing cars and automotive
product on Youtube, he or she is participating on the sharing
economy, and she or he gains reputation (even money) from it.
9. OTHER OPINION
To me, other than the factors that affect people to join the sharing
economy, there are also the factors why they don't want to join such
as prestige and self indulgence. Nowadays, people tend to spend a lot
just to fill their desire, even for the things that they don't really need.
For example, because of other people have it, we also want it even if
we can't afford that thing, instead we are willing to do everything to
get it just so people can see us as a prestigious person. This attitude
makes us drifting away from the concept of sharing economy.
