3. London 2012 Olympic General:
Olympic Games
• Opening Ceremony on 27th July 2012 and run until the Closing Ceremony on 12th August 2012.
• Main Locations are:
– Olympic Park (Stratford) 9 Venues.
– The River Zone – ExCeL, North Greenwich Arena, Greenwich Park, Royal Artillery Barracks.
– Central London – The Mall, Hyde Park, Horse Guards Parade.
– Other London Events - Earls Court, Lords Cricket Ground, Wembley, Hampton Court Palace.
• Outside London, sporting events will take place at Eton Dorney, the Lee Valley White Water Centre, Hadleigh Farm (Essex), and Weymouth and
Portland. In addition, Cardiff, Coventry, Glasgow, Manchester and Newcastle will each be co-Host Cities for the Olympic Football competition.
Paralympic Games
• Opening Ceremony on 29th August 2012 and run until the Closing Ceremony on 09th September 2012.
• They will be attended by approximately three million spectators. The transport challenges will be considerable, particularly as the school term starts
during that period, which will create additional pressures on the transport system. The PRN will be in operation and will affect road users.
Between the Games – the ‘transition’ period
• Between the end of the Olympic Games and the start of the Paralympic Games, public transport will still be affected as thousands of athletes, officials
and spectators will be leaving and arriving in London. The ORN and PRN will remain in operation in certain areas during this period, so roads will
continue to be busier than normal.

15. TfL Transport Summary
Start of service
• During the Olympic Games, services will start at the same time as usual, with the exception of
Sundays, when London Underground (Tube) and Docklands Light Railway (DLR) will start
approximately 30–45 minutes earlier.
End of service
• During the Olympic Games, the Tube and DLR trains will run up to 90 minutes later than normal on
all days, including Sundays. Last trains from central London will leave around 01:30.
• National Rail services from London will operate later than normal. Last trains for both suburban and
inter-city destinations will leave London termini typically between 00:00 and 01:00.
Additional capacity
• During the Olympic Games, the Tube will operate additional evening services on the Jubilee,
Central and District lines. There will be a late evening peak service from 3 August, when events
commence at the Olympic Stadium.
• DLR will operate ‘peak’ services all day throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
• National Rail will run longer/more frequent trains to most venue stations. This will include the
Javelin® shuttle service between St Pancras International, Stratford International and Ebbsfleet
stations.
