When we started:
We celebrate 100 years of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting from 2010 (the birth of Girl Guiding in UK) to 2012 (the birth of Girl Scouting in the US). Since we are the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts these are the significant dates for us. WAGGGS itself was founded later in 1926.
Tell them who we are.
This is the new vision of WAGGGS for next triennium, which could be also continued after 2014
Vision – what does it mean to AP?
For AP, we will continue to strengthen the quality of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting to ensure the programmes are relevant and challenging. Reaching out to more members challenges us to develop a diversified, innovative approach to recruit committed leaders with the right skills and penetrate the underrepresented groups. We will support MOs to engage and challenge girls and young women to develop skills for life and to be the agents of change in the world.
Mission remains the same
Where we are:
The regions are very different.
Arab Region is the youngest.
Africa region is the fastest growing.
Asia Pacific is the other region that is growing (India, Sri Lanka. Cambodia, Taiwan).
Western Hemisphere is great in diversity .
Europe region has the oldest Member Organizations.
But they are all unified by the spirit of Guiding..
The Regional directors are based in the Olave Centre in London, except for the Europe Region director (as mentioned). She is based in Brussels.
Combined, the World Centres have more than 200 years of experience of delivering training events and program activities to our Members.
The World Centres (WCs) provide residential accommodation for guests and also deliver WAGGGS’ key training events, such as the WLDP. The WCs are WAGGGS’ direct way to reach out to young women and to provide them with an international experience, leadership opportunities and adventure.
Whilst some of the seminar events are only available to Members of WAGGGS, outside these events, the WCs are open to independent guests, welcoming people (both females and males) of all ages from around the world.
Family winter weeks at Our Chalet, for example, are popular.
There are opportunities to join the staff team in the WCs, or for Members to volunteer. Sangam also offers a 4 week or 12 week community volunteering program which allows Members to live at a World Centre, whilst volunteering with a community partner in Pune, India.
Please visit WAGGGS’ website and look at the WC microsites for more information.
At the 2011 World Conference in Edinburgh, it was decided that we should conduct a pilot project in Africa, to develop a new concept of WC delivery. This is being piloted in 2012 and 2013.
In 2011, the United Nations declared 11 October as the International Day of the Girl. WAGGGS was among the group that lobbied for this day to be gazetted. The IDG was celebrated for the first time on 11 October 2012.
Some APR MOs also pioneered in the celebration:
Girl Scouts of Japan co-hosted the launch of the IDG in Japan with United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Japan and Plan International Japan
The Girl Scout Association of Mongolia (GSAM) introduced the concept of the IDG to the Children and Family Development Department of the National Authority for Children (NA) of Mongolia, the Government’s Implementing Agency and they accepted and encouraged GSAM`s efforts, initiative and proposal to celebrate the International Day of the Girl nationwide in Mongolia every year starting from 2012
Girl Scouts of Korea (GSK) started a Fundraising Campaign for supporting girl victims suffering from sexual violence with the HappyBean Foundation which is working for the public good as an non-profit foundation of Naver, Korea's largest portal site during the celebration of the IDG
Girl Guides Association of the Kingdom of Tonga also promoted the Day in their activities

AP incredibly diverse in religions, ethnicity, cultures, history.
Cambodia is latest Full Member in 2011
Mongolia and Cook Islands working towards Full Membership
Myanmar is currently a Country Working Towards Membership (CWTM) and we aim to work with Myanmar Girl Guides to achieve Associate Membership by the World Conference in Hong Kong next July
Currently the APR has 2.6 million members, an increase by 100,000 members since the triennium of 2006-2008. We targeted to increase our membership to 3 million members and this could only be done with the support and concerted efforts by our Member Organizations including all of you.
The following slides also describe what we are doing to work towards this target
Website as a marketing / publicity tool
Members Area: you can all get a password to access the Members Area. There you will find a wide array of resources, news and information. The pages are colourful and there are many sites to explore.
A new feature is that MOs can even submit their own news, events and articles online.
AP Link News – another marketing and public relations tool
this is a newsletter that is available online and published 3 times a year. You can sign up to receive via your personal email. Please continue to submit articles and original format JPEG photos as this is a good tool to inform our members, Friends of AP, partners and donors of our activities.
