1.0 SITUATION/PROBLEM
1.1 Whenever Rodrigo (User) copy-paste an activity or group of activities,
the copied activities carries with them the Project and Primary
baseline dates information of the original activities.
1.2 He does not want the newly created activities to have this old
information and would like to see the BL and BL1 field blank.
1.3 Rod tried several ways to remove this information from the newly
created activities but to no avail. What must he do?
2.0 RELATED TOOLS

higher)
3.0 DEFINITION
3.1 The term “User” in this document is the person using the Primavera
scheduling tool. He can be the planner, the scheduler, the Project
Manager or anyone.
3.2 BL is the Project Baseline.
3.3 BL1 is the Primary Baseline.
3.4 BL2 is the Secondary Baseline
3.5 BL3 is the Tertiary Baseline
4.0 PROBLEM ANALYSIS (PA)
4.1 Whenever the User “copy-paste” an activity (or group of activities),
the copied activity (activities) carries with them the active baseline
date information. As such it becomes an integral attribute of the
newly created activities.
4.2 The Project Baseline and the Primary Baseline automatically default to
the <<current>> schedule unless the User assigns a different one.
Therefore, there will always be a value in there which Rodrigo can
show and use.
4.3 However way Rod does it, the schedule assigned to the Baseline Fields
becomes the automatic attribute of the activities.

4.4 That is why, when he copied any activity, the baseline date of that
activity comes with it even if he did not want to.
4.5 The behavior however, was temporary and only for that particular
session.
5.0 EXPLANATION/SOLUTION
5.1 Solution 1
5.1.1 Complete all “copy-paste” activities, disregarding the fact
that you are seeing the unwanted BL and BL1 information
being copied too.
5.1.2 Go to File Menu and click “Close All”. In brief, close the
project.
5.1.3 Go back and re-open the project. All the unwanted Baseline
dates should be gone.
5.2 Solution 2
5.2.1 Change the Project Baseline and the Primary Baseline to
<<Current Project>>. See Section 9, Figure 1.
5.2.2 Change Secondary and Tertiary User Baseline to <<None>>.
See Section 9, Figure 1.
5.2.3 Click the OK button to accept and start copying the activity
(or activities) to create new ones.
5.2.4 Paste copied activities. See Section 9, Figure 2.
5.2.5 When done copying, re-instate the assigned baselines. See
Section 9, Figure 2.
5.2.6 You have now successfully copied activities into the schedule
without the baseline attributes. These activities will not show
any date on the BL and BL1 columns. See Section 9, Figure 3.
5.2.7 The same technique should work when managing the
secondary and tertiary baselines.

8.0 FOOD FOR THOUGHT
8.1 The PEC software User should remember that when he performs a
“copy-paste” of an activity (or group of activities), the copied activities
carries with them their attributes and in this particular case, the active
baseline date information; i.e. BL and BL1. Without performing the
seemingly simple steps mentioned in Section 5, the new activities
inherit the baseline dates.
8.2 For those who want to participate and at the same time fully
understand the industries current best practices on managing control
baselines and how it relates to Forecasting. I joined the discussion on
the same subject in the AACEi forum on Recommended Practices PC-
