Finding primary & print sources MW Library catalog – use broad terms From site like The National Archives (of the UK) or Wikipedia article, find potential source(s) Cross-search titles/authors in Google/Bookand use Find in Library link if no digitized copy is available Find reference articles from books in the World History RC and the Virtual Reference Library (or the Books tab of PowerSearch results) Find scholarly articles in Gale PowerSearch, Project MUSE, and JSTOR (incl. articles from the early 1900’s).

Find scholarly articles and reference articles in previously highlighted databases

Tips for the time traveler Avoid the “too new” (e.g. Sierra Leone or Rwanda instead of the Darfur region of Sudan) Prepare by doing preliminary reading – potential search words, subtopics, available sources, etc. Refine scope (e.g. banana trade in Central America vs. role of United Fruit Co. in Guatemalan politics) Budget time at school for @ school only resources like Project MUSE Critically evaluate sources Keep track of sources with Noodle Tools Regularly reflect on progress
