3. Hurling is a sport original from the Celtic
culture.
It is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic
origin, administered by the Gaelic Athletic
Association.
You play it with a stick and you must hit the
ball. This sport is mainly practiced in Ireland.
The pitch is 82m x 137m.
4. • The goal of the game is to hit a small ball between
the opponents goalposts or over the crossbar for
one point, or under the crossbar into a net guarded
by a goalkeeper for three points.
• The sliothar can be caught in the hand and carried
for not more than four steps, struck in the air, or
struck on the ground with the hurley. It can be
kicked or slapped with an open hand for short-
range passing. A player who wants to carry the ball
for more than four steps has to bounce or balance
the sliothar on the end of the stick and the ball can
only be handled twice while in his possession.
5. • Teams consist of fifteen players and they line out
as below:
• The panel is made up of 24–30 players and 5
substitutions are allowed per game. No
exceptions are ever made.
• The goalkeeper are different than the other
players.
• The senior matches are of 70 minutes, 35 and 35.
All other matches are f 60 minutes, 30 and 30,
but for groups less than 13 years, the games are
shortened to 50 minutes.
